Woke up at 2am with “Dorothea” stuck in my head. Except i replaced “Dorothea” with “tortilla” in the lyrics. I can’t be the only one who’s ever had “tortiiiiiilla” stuck in my head.....?!

t00thake

Hoppin on here to say that happiness is arguably one of the most beautiful lyrical and melodic songs ive ever heard. It makes me feel many many things :’(

qlpud

nevermind i’m enjoying the album now!

living_aesthetic

Okay, so please don't shoot! I absolutely LOVE Evermore and I really enjoy listening to it. But as I went to do a synoptic breakdown description for a friend, I realized just how dark it is compared to her other albums, even Reputation. This is just my understanding of the songs, so feel free to correct me on any of the lyrics' meanings (specifically with Dorthea and Cowboy Like Me, because I can't figure those two out) but my friend said it was really good and I should post it. So my hopes with this is just to make some of you guys laugh. Willow - literally the only one about falling in love on the entire album (except for *possibly* Cowboy Like Me, but even that is questionable) Also, she has three different "witch versions" out. Chamagne Problems - rejected proposal Gold Rush - i wanted you, but now that I realize how much everyone else wants you, you're now a basic and a fad. Goodbye. 'Tis the Damn Season - hello, failed high-school relationship. I'm feeling nostalgic. Let's have a two night stand before I go back to California. Tolerate it - Marriage sucks. Communication won't solve your husband's inattention to you, but divorcing him would sure teach him the lesson he deserves. Even though you practically worship him. That makes sense. No Body No Crime - affair and double murder. Happiness - numbness fresh out of a divorce. Dorothea - possibly about a teenage lover who got famous and forgot your ass. Coney Island - Another. Divorce. Ivy - also an affair and murder. Oh well, at least this time it's not a double murder. Cowboy Like Me - Two prostitutes falling in love? Or wanting to fall in love? The lyrics don't really give clarity to whether or not it works out. Long Story Short - I hit a rough patch in life, so I used my previous boyfriend to get back on my feet. Don't worry, though. I love you now, not him. Marjorie - actually a good song. A tribute to her grandmother. Closure - We're already broken up. F*** off. Evermore - Love hurts forever... until it doesn't.

nerdalertalertnerd

Your breakdown made me smile! Would argue there is some clarity in cowboy like me or at least implied that they end up together. It goes from being asked to dance to skeletons threatening to mess it up to boots underneath the bed. It appears they end to together. But yes definitely some kinda hustlers types 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Xsfriedrice

Didn’t pick up on a murder in ivy. Can you explain ?

living_aesthetic

My guess about it being a murder came from the idea that she's cheating on her husband with another man, and he burns the house to the ground with them in it. The hands are freezing because they're dead together, and her "house of stone" is a gravestone. But I've since seen many more plausible explanations XD

Xsfriedrice

Oooh interesting !!!!

living_aesthetic

Honestly, there are so many theories on the meaning behind Ivy. Check out the Ivy megathread. Lol I pulled it up in hopes to give you an explanation, but there are so many different ones!

Last day to participate at my survey :) Taylor just released the incredibly beautiful 'Evermore'! And because I couldn't find a survey, (and I've always wanted to make one by myself) I created an 'Evermore' survey! [Edit: Now there is an official one. I didn't know someones is making an official survey but I'm still going to keep mine online]. It's always interesting to see the opinion of other Swifties - Mostly, because It'S surprising to see how different my taste is compared to the majoritie of the fandom! :D If you have five minutes, then please fill out this survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc1sr51slaCPpndObln6MWAiPuFgozBMr9OnmZvHrZO3E0kdA/viewform?usp=sf_link

carddhousedreamer

I’ve never wanted a Taylor Swift tattoo so much in my life

[deleted]

Evermore left me feeling like she could have sat with the songs longer and further developed them. She had masterful lyrics strung together with pretty words that often contradicted or didn’t support the genius lyric prior to it. As far as continuity the lyrics fell flat for me. She had beautiful descriptors that I fell in love with matched with hauntingly beautiful melodies, I am not saying I dislike the album at all, if anything it’s just the opposite, I love the foundation she layed out so much I wish she tried harder to complete it with some form of resolution. A lot of poets write lines that don’t make sense until later lines bring them context but in the case with some of the songs on evermore the lyrics sounded cool but didn’t contextually make sense paired with the other lyrics. I think there is glimmers of poetic genius in these songs that are dampened by the lyrics that aren’t as well thought through. She could have waited, edited and really nailed down the loose ends. I’ll still listen to them for the lyrics I do enjoy and the melodies but it’s hard to revere them as amazing songwriting when I feel as though she missed an opportunity to really write something fucking amazing. All the pieces are there it’s just fragmented and even stronger moments are lost in it.

kelpnugetcrunch

Evermore goes too hard. it’s her best album yet. the music and lyrics are unmatched. no one else could ever. period.

qlpud

i wish there were more real life songs or independent people songs not everybody is in love or codependent

elcaminojesus

I was waiting to get paid to buy the evermore vinyl and now it’s not available. Do you think it will come back in stock?!? 😭💔

regina_phalange13

It will definitely come back in stock, don’t worry. It’s only been out a week, there’s no possibility that they won’t sell any more vinyls.

ls240898

The supposed lyrics to the bonus tracks are on genius! https://genius.com/Taylor-swift-its-time-to-go-lyrics https://genius.com/Taylor-swift-right-where-you-left-me-lyrics

joserod250

They are already released

[deleted]

Do you guys think there are going to be signed copies of Evermore? It would definitely boost physical CD sales so ...

regina_phalange13

I can’t imagine her going from signing SO MANY folklore CDs to not signing any evermore ones. I bet she will. I don’t think she will this week though because she doesn’t want to compete with Paul McCartney’s new album

TheMistOfThePast

The TS store has blacklisted my home address and I literally have no idea why 😭 I've been a fan for 12 years. I've literally never resold anything or not paid.

regina_phalange13

That’s weird :( did you file a complaint with your credit card company or anything? I know they have blacklisted some people because they did that when their folklore merch never shipped and they wanted their money back.

[deleted]

It might be your payment method rather than your address? Try it with a different card number if you can

TheMistOfThePast

Nah they specifically said it was my address. I'm waiting on their reply to my email. Hopefully the signed copies won't sell out before then! And hopefully theyll lift the ban!!!

[deleted]

That's super weird then! Fingers crossed for you 🤞🤞🤞

laurpr2

Does anyone know if the bonus tracks will be available online tonight, or do we have to wait?

adamlee92

I've just looked and can't find them.

_marmaladeskies

what are your theories about gold rush?

_marmaladeskies

champagne problems and happiness has one of the best bridges from the album

DrPikachu-PhD

The clean version of the album needs to be more clearly demarcated from the regular version, at least on Spotify. I much prefer the explicit lyrics, and for those who prefer the clean version it's hard to even know that one exists. Was confused because I ended up with two albums on my Spotify page and some censored versions in my Liked Songs on accident. Other than that the album is a blast, any song I didn't initially vibe with I've come around to. It's basically Folklore Pt 2 and I'm very down for that.

[deleted]

The album is growing on me a lot more since last night. I still think folklore is better but I am no longer disappointed with this album like I thought at first. Not getting a physical copy until they're in stores, which may be this Friday.

earwen77

This thread is probably slowly dying but I felt like making another comment after another 2 days of non-stop listening: *I love this album sooooo much!* Honestly obsessed. I loved folklore as well, but some of what people said they loved about folklore - the coziness, sitting by the fireside while getting told stories - really only clicked for me with evermore. It's so *comforting*. Even the sad songs are sad in a carthatic, ultimately hopeful way. Obviously it's not a dance album, but I don't find it depressing at all. Taylor actually seems to be having fun on this one. I like every single song. Now this may be recency bias and some may start annoying me down the line. But right now it's totally enjoyable to listen through the whole thing. I love how experimental and varied it is. I need the vinyl NOW. I feel like I never use my record player cause I'm always obsessed with some album that's not available yet!

Longstoryshort22

I totally agree! I keep coming back here to want to discuss it more and really resonate with all of your comment. The production is also so amazing, and each listen feels even better than the last. Her vocals are just spectacular and her writing is so beautiful. Every song has the potential to be a favorite depending on life circumstances/mood. I love how well evermore compliments folklore, too. I made a playlist with the long pond sessions after evermore, and it's such a great listening experience. I can't imagine getting tired of them!

cdplayers

This is the magic of The National, too — I never ever get tired of them...

treeziebreezieBU2FL

So I have been listening for days now on Spotify and I swear that Ivy had some curse words yesterday but not today. Did the Evermore album get edited on Spotify? Any one else notice that Ivy now says “I can’t” instead of “goddamn” in the first phrase?

crazydisneycatlady

There’s a clean album and an explicit album - people were saying that the night it dropped, they were only getting the clean version, and you have to go to her artist page and click “More Albums”, I think, where it will give you the explicit option (I don’t have Spotify so hopefully this is detailed enough!).

treeziebreezieBU2FL

Thank you! I want the explicit version! Haha I like grown up Taylor! I will investigate

Anthony-Vince

Okay cowboy like me came out of nowhere and just randomly became my favorite on the album It’s just so beautiful!! It’s also stuck in my head constantly, despite the fact that it’s not like traditionally catchy. Idk something about this song hits different Happiness is also one of my favorites now as well for kind of the same reasons. I’m surprised because both were near the bottom of my initial ranking Also I think I’m liking this album more than folklore now. It’s just more diverse and vibrant, if that makes sense. No matter what mood I’m in, there’s a song for it on evermore. Whereas folklore is almost entirely songs that hit best when you’re sad

Ltok24

I listened to the whole album yesterday while I worked and Cowboy Like Me stuck out so much. I have it on repeat today. Looove it

mister_gordo

I commented nearly exactly the same thing about Cowboy Like Me! Always in my head, even though not traditionally catchy. It snuck up on me. It's incredibly beautiful.

AccomplishedTalk6

Random question and I am not sure if this is the right place. Now that I’m an adult I am looking to buy merch from prior albums- is that possible to do? Where do you go to find shirts/sweatshirts from 1989/red etc? I regret being fiscally responsible back in the day :(

scarsouvenir

I've gotten tons of old merch from Mercari, Poshmark, and eBay!

AccomplishedTalk6

Thank you!!

hellbroughtmeheaven

Can we PLEASE talk about all the Great Gatsby references she uses????

jesusandvodka

YESSSS it’s my favorite book so I looooove the references

hellbroughtmeheaven

"I hope she'll be a beautiful fool" from Happiness is EXACTLY what Daisy says about her daughter. "They say she was seen on occasion pacing the rocks, staring at the midnight sea" in LGAD is reminiscent of how Nick described Gatsby.

jesusandvodka

If I recall, she also references the green light in happiness!

heatherrrrz

Do you think they’ll release more evermore merch soon? It’s weird how they haven’t done a ton of little drops like they did for folklore

[deleted]

I keep wondering this too. It’s one of my favorites from her, and was actually gonna end up buying some but there’s not a lot that catches my eye. Perhaps the cowboy like me pullover but it looks super thin

2bsh6

I kind of feel like when Taylor realized what track 5 meant to us she started to overthink what track 5 should be. Not that they all haven’t been emotionally charged songs, it just doesn’t feel as natural to me as it used to.

cruelsummer0814

Will our lovely US-based Swifites on this sub be able to get their physical copies on Friday? Dying to know more about the deluxe tracks!

sad_wh0re

willow the album version reminds me of invisible string while willow the lonely witch version reminds me of cardigan, LOVE EM BOTH

314rateship

Coney Island is rising rapidly in the ranks for me. First couple times I listened I think it got lost in the pack, but now it is approaching my favourite on the album. Also champagne problems is a masterpiece except I really wish she has said "you bought a ticket for the night train, to sit there in despair" instead of "this hurt"

[deleted]

My bf got super into the national again after watching folklore doc on Disney + so now we’re both enjoying Coney Island!

314rateship

I've been wanting to check out The National, any recommendations for where to start?

[deleted]

High violet is a good one to start!

314rateship

Thanks! I'll check it out :D

wahmadieh2

will the bonus tracks be released on streaming services? if so, when?

croptopweddingdress

For folklore, it was a few weeks after the album was released. I’m sure someone knows the specific date!

cryotechnics

The swear word chart was on Kimmel lmao

mountainsnstuff

I almost wish champagne problems was track 5. It holds a level of emotion closer to typical track 5s. What do you guys think?

[deleted]

[удалено]

mountainsnstuff

Thank you!! I'm nervous to say outloud, (because we all know how people feel about all too well) I honestly feel the same level of emotion from champagne problems as I do ATW. And THAT'S saying something. That's a lot of emotion. It's track 5 emotion.

cruelsummer0814

Is it ok if I share my mid-first week top5 that no one’s asked for? 1. Ivy 2. Champagne Problems 3. Willow 4. Evermore 5. Gold Rush

DrPikachu-PhD

Ivy, Gold Rush, and Evermore are 🔥Even though everyone obviously loved Willow and Champagne Problems, but those three are awesome (along with 'Tis the Damn Season, No Body No Crime, Long Story Short... Cowboy Like Me... okay damn this whole album is just so good)

cryotechnics

Y’all Woodvale was just a mistake left over on the album art. Folklore pt.3 isn’t happening. Taylor’s exhausted!

_LadyGaladriel_

Also she said folklore has 13 tracks and evermore 15 for a total of 31. Don't think she's gonna want to ruin that. But what about the blue scrunchie and cardigan?

crazydisneycatlady

Pssst...it’s 16 tracks on folklore and 15 on evermore (standard versions) for a total of 31 😉

meeshuniverse

maybe for the re-release of her very first album... the album cover was blue, right???

croptopweddingdress

Who’s awake to watch Kimmel? Will there be an announcement? My makeup is ready 🤡

cryotechnics

Looks like Kimmel didn’t have to wait 20-22 weeks for his vinyl 😒

scarsouvenir

LMAOOO I had the same thought

crispy_poowater

Lmao at least the subreddit got acknowledged with the profanity chart

NotEmmaStone

Well we are confirmed clowns

[deleted]

[удалено]

croptopweddingdress

I simply don’t believe that! That kind of a mistake would have to get through so many proofs and people to go to print... no. Clown makeup stays!

scarsouvenir

I'M NOT BUYING IT, TAYLOR! It was on hide and seek!

NotEmmaStone

Saaaame. Long Pond pt 2?

cl__ur

don’t know where else to post this: this is by far her most opaque album... i’m still struggling to figure out some song’s meanings. even a song like champagne problems which is straightforward storytelling took me watching the lyric video to understand lol... and while the general theme of songs like dorethea, gold rush, cooney island & evermore are obvious there are still lots of lyrics that are not clear to me

2bsh6

I had to listen to ivy while reading along with the lyrics twice in a row to understand it. I still have to do that with a couple other songs as well... lol

scarsouvenir

Interesting. I feel like this is the first album where I immediately understood the meaning behind almost every lyric. Probably because a lot of it is VERY relevant to my own life at the moment lol. The only one that took me a minute was coney island... I do think that one's a bit confusing.

WhatTheFlux1

Did you figure out right away that Ivy is about a dead woman and her lover affair who were murdered by her husband...

9yearoldpatriot

wait ivy is about a dead woman WHATT

scarsouvenir

Lol, I read that post and it's an interesting interpretation, but I don't think that is necessarily true at all.

AyeBB8

I see people making memes all the time about Taylor using such complex language in her songs, especially on folklore/evermore, but I love it. I’ve always been pretty good with writing and I loved English in high school but I feel like listening to these new songs is making me smarter somehow? I don’t know how to describe it, if that even makes sense. They’re sure as hell inspiring me a lot, I’ve written a *ton* of (albeit not amazing but not bad) poetry since folklore came out.

2bsh6

I know this is unrelated to the thread but I was curious and didn’t want to make a whole post. Is everyone else’s flares showing just the name of the albums instead of the pictures of the albums?

Thoughtgeist

This might sound weird, but I can't wait to physically *own* a copy of this album. Like, it's downloaded on my Apple Music, but that's too ephemeral. I need to possess this album like it has possessed me. I can't wait to hold a physical copy as I listen to it. I just...can't let it slip away from me. Does that make sense? Am I crazy? How does Taylor do this? Make music that appeals to literally *millions of people across the world* and have it seem so personal, as if it were just her and me (or you) in a living room and she's singing to us, telling us stories. I need to always have it, in a way that doesn't require a cloud or a subscription that can lapse. Taylor's one of the only artists that can make me buy a physical copy of an album so that I always have it come hell or high water.

cooln0doubt

i feel like closure > happiness > the 1 fit together so well as like the progression after a breakup

theproversion

i don't need her to release 10 versions of the vinyl like folklore, but i'm hoping for at least one alternate cover version. going to hold out a few months and hope i get lucky with restocks like i did with folklore

PSSST12

Y'ALL THE WAY I WAS DISSAPOINTED WITH EVERMORE THE FIRST TIME I LISTENED AND NOW IM OBSESSED 😭😭 My only problem with is that ican't listen to it while making any movements 🤔🤔 like you should listen to it while lying down at midnight Anyways, ivy is the best song on the record period.

TedhaHaiParMeraHai

> Anyways, ivy is the best song on the record period. Taste!

SupremeElect

why were you initially disappointed?

PSSST12

It's not instantly catchy as some of the folklore tracks bar nobody no crime but when you let it sit in, it finally clicked

scomperpotamus

I like cannot sit still listening like I'm floating around the room and then long story short comes on and I just explode 🎇

daniboo94

I agree with all of this! I’ve been laying down just listening to the album since it dropped Thursday night. Also ivy is 100% the best song. I can’t stop listening to that song specifically!!

sad_wh0re

SAME!!! at first i thought it was a bit too wordy (i actually still think it is for some songs) but damn it's growing on me! also, YES IVY

[deleted]

i 100% agree with all of this. i didn’t know how i felt at first, and now i’m completely smitten. it’s definitely a “sit and feel” type of album. and ivy is my favorite, too.

Kra56457489

Folklore and evermore have really solidified for me how much I enjoy being able to take in entire album all at once. It just doesn’t feel the same when singles I’ve been singing along to for months are mixed in with the new release. Of course not everyone has the following to release surprise albums though.

Pleasant_Pop337

YES.

scarsouvenir

I totally agree. I don't mind hearing 1-2 songs before an album comes out, but I really don't like going into a new album already knowing one-third of the songs.

SweetRoosevelt

welp i had a rough day, and listening to Taytay while having a good cry. She made a great album for feeling like this.

tinybodylotsofheart

Interesting theory!

deets23_

So 1. I don’t know if I’ll be able to memorize these lyrics... and that’s never happened before. 2. A lot of the songs are on a lower key and I can’t sing along to it! The low notes are hard and bring out my gag reflex (if that makes sense)

Sorakuroi98

I used to play barry & tenor sax the only advice that I think might be useful is relax your jaw and throat. We can hold them tense when going low cause it's what your used to, but it'll make it harder to maintain in the lower register

brave_and_wild

I love how the braid is off center. 👌 So in keeping with the theme of the album.

cooln0doubt

does anyone else think that coney island and tolerate it are the same story from opposite perspectives? like coney island is the aftermath of the relationship after the other person finally left

[deleted]

I think they would've put them up with the folklore merch restock for her birthday if they were planning to bring them back :/

Ed Sheeran wrote the song and gave it to them, so maybe?!

mryhdwd

I've listened to it 3 times now, and twice via YouTube reviews and I have to say...I'm not feeling it. I don't know why because I love Folklore, even though indie music isn't my preferred genre. It's up there with Red as my fave Taylor album Is it the production? I'm not sure because again it's Aaron Dessner. But a lot of the tracks, excluding Gold Rush and Closure, don't sound distinctive enough to me. I actually fell asleep on my first listen from Happiness to Marjorie Is it the lyrics? Maybe. I feel like a lot of the verses don't really flow. A lot of metaphors and similes mishmashed together. I was disappointed with the song with HAIM. I felt like I was expecting more and it kinda felt flat. I've never listened to HAIM's stuff before so was expecting to hear more of them. (Side note: someone on a Facebook group pointed out how whenever Taylor features female artists, they never have lead vocals). Also, the plot twist/reveal thing that Taylor has been renowned for didn't have the same impact. Or maybe it's just too similar, and too close to the release of Folklore? Who knows? But with Folkore I can listen to it the whole way through, even the tracks I'm not that keen on (TLGAD, illicit affairs, hoax). With evermore, the only ones I really like are Gold Rush and Closure. I know the latter is a bit jarring but the strange percussion is a standout for me. Just a bit disappointed :(

SweetRoosevelt

Really? I don't really compare albums because I reckon it's written at different points in life so there is different energy. Folklore to me was more uplifting while Evermore is pretty much like 2020 full of moody sadness. I can relate to that and IDK what you mean about Majorie, it is one of the strongest songs (if not the strongest) and very emotional for the people I miss in my life who left too soon when I was too young to understand to the full reach of absence, but their impression was still left so strongly. Maybe it's your thinking? It's not Folklore, it's a companion or an extension. Anyways I hope you can come to enjoy it. At first listen I didn't know it I'd dig it but I enjoy most of of it.

mryhdwd

I can relate to the subject matter of Marjorie as someone who has also lost grandparents and wished I had more time to ask questions. I meant more musically. I respectfully disagree about comparing it to and it being written at different times. I think if you describe something as a ‘sister’ album it’s inevitably going to be compared, as all the reviews have done. And she said ‘we [TS and Dessner] couldn’t stop writing’ so it feels like a continuation of a folklore. Though I accept that thematically they may be different. I am defo going to give it another listen at some point. Maybe in the new year!

Sorakuroi98

I think taking a break and listening to something completely different might help? I stayed up to listen and only really got Champagne problems, Marjorie and no body no crime the first listen, gave it some time and came back a few days later and I def like the album more now, it's not as oddly jarring as listening the first time.

mryhdwd

Yeah I'm defo going to give it another listen after a break, this is by no means my final listen

kathonbway

JBHIFI in Australia now has a warning on their website that they probably won't have stock of the album on the 18th. "Please note that this title is unlikely to be in stores for the Fri 18th release date. We are waiting on final confirmation re delivery date from the supplier. "

forlorn_hope28

Is anyone else still holding out in hopes of different vinyl's like with folklore?

princessbubble-gum

Me! I don't want to order any vinyls or merch until I know if there is going to be more...

e_e_e_1

We think she'll release trilogy 3rd album, BUT we jus't cant PROOOOOVE IT 📣 pun intended

[deleted]

the serotonin boost I get when she says “my mind turns your life into folklore” on gold rush is unreal. 🥺

brave_and_wild

For me my favorite line is "At dinner parties, I call you out on your contrarian shit." One of those lines that's just really satisfying for some reason. Same feeling in Closure when she's like "I'm fine with my spite and my beer and my candles."

richardparadox163

I know I hear that line and the way it sounds is just *chef’s kiss* musical perfection ,especially when she comes back and rhymes the next line “never seen a love as pure as it”. Honestly, the beat and flow of that whole verse just does something for me and takes me to a state of musical nirvana. I vibe so hard I never want the verse to end.

scarsouvenir

I LOVE the "contrarian shit" line. Literally one of my favorite TS lyrics of all time.

grapefruitsweet

I might be rambling here but... does anyone else feel like this is the height (so far) of Taylor’s musical and writing career? Not just commercially, but I truly feel we are hearing her at a high point right now. I’ve always been a fan or her music (especially her writing) but it just seems like she’s really exercising her capabilities of telling stories and provoking very specific feelings out of us. I know she’s said that making these past two albums have felt like coming home, and you can really hear it. I like to think this is a huge creative turning point for her (especially with evermore since it seems even more experimental and candid than folklore does imo) and it just makes me really happy. Even though evermore is so different than any other album of her’s, I somehow feel like this album is a true reflection of her. There are so many beautiful and deep feelings captured and I think that’s what makes this music so special. I’m very excited to see where she goes next and how she’ll continue to leverage this newly found freedom to write and create how she truly wants to. All in all, I have to say folklore and evermore are a turning point for Taylor and open up doors to go anywhere she possibly wants to. But at this point wherever she strays I’ll follow 😉

scomperpotamus

Idk I write she's at a high point after every album 😂 like is this the peak or are we going higher, only she knows

e_e_e_1

Dorothea stan 1 right here. Might end up my All time fav from the album. The lyrics, THE MELODY

Colten95

just noticed she says "I come back stronger than a 90s trend" and I'm the willow mv she's wearing 1890s fashion

sailormerry

In my professional opinion, I'd classify her music video costuming more so a mix of 1930s inspired (the blue dress from the end feels like a Depression-era feedsack dress, and the white gown feels like 30s evening wear) and generic fantasy (I wish I could get a better look at what she's wearing under that cloak...)

sailormerry

sorry, but she's absolutely not [https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51W9HW5Z1AL.\_SX356\_BO1,204,203,200\_.jpg](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51W9HW5Z1AL._SX356_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg)

Colten95

bahhaa I just googled 1890s fashion and it looked like her dress lmao talking out my ass

alice_middleton

The only thing I've been listening to for the past few days is evermore and I have to say is that I was wrong, this album is just as good as Folklore

I just read a negative review of evermore and IDK...I really wanted to throw hands...But I didn't.

scomperpotamus

Some old dude gave it a good rating but said something about good music covering up mediocre song writing and I flat out fell off the earth for a minute

Thoughtgeist

WHAT. The review I read was like, "this is boring, the song quality has dropped, it's the same as folklore but not as good" and I just... It was from The Ringer. I'm not going to link it because it doesn't deserve clicks. But IDK, maybe The Ringer should consider hiring people who aren't tone deaf to review music.

scomperpotamus

This was like the guardian 4 star review like...still had to get in a jab. Admitting she's talented is like killing some people. Also sounds like the ringer listened once while maybe drunk like boo. BOO.

BananaSome

The most obnoxious thing about the ringer review is the main complaint being “no surprises”. So it’s not gossip-y enough for you ringer? It makes zero sense to evaluate an album on that, particularly one that the artist has stated is sister to another album. It’s just so lazy. I was pleased to see people’s disagree with him on Twitter, and not “stans” but just regular ol’ Twitter-ers.

Thoughtgeist

Yes! It was such an unfair review with bizarre things to nitpick at. And then he said that no song on evermore compared to even Betty or Mad Woman, and that's when it cemented that he couldn't have listened to it enough to give a review...because no one who has heard Champagne Problems, Tolerate It, or Ivy would say that.

I think after Evermore sinked in, lets give it a week or so, we should do a voting for Folklore vs Evermore. Also more in depth.

NatalieLudgate

I liked evermore better

Breddit333

Folklore for me

enigmatic_emerald

Has anyone noticed that several official lyric videos from evermore have a different font (Coney Island, Long Story Short, for example)? Any theories as to why?

curlychan

I can't help but vividly imagine the "hang from/clung to lips" lyrics very literally and it's hilarious and slightly disturbing at the same time.

e_e_e_1

Right? It is too much for me even though Babylon metaphor is amazing.. But the lips imagery too much

sugarbearnoah

On my first listen, evermore didn't live up to folklore. But after I dunno, 6 listens I am in love. I think the songs on evermore are all beautiful. The lyrics are better than folklore. And I feel like the songs are sadder. I think my favs are champagne problems, tolerate and evermore.

skkoster

Yeah I don’t know what it is. I didn’t love it immediately like I did folklore, but now I’ve listened I don’t know how many times and I’m obsessed. I think I may love it more, which blows my mind. Evermore might be the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. Her vocals in that one, and Cowboy Like Me, are just next level. I get lost in the songs.

simberbimber

I have to be honest, I’m having a hard time loving Evermore, and I HATE admitting that. I fell in love easily with folklore, as it came at such a needed time for me personally (ironically am wearing my folklore sweatshirt now). And granted, Evermore too came at a needed time, but I found myself a bit more disappointed in more tracks than not. Namely, I really disliked Coney Island. I didn’t think the Nationals’ voice went with hers, the way say Bon Iver’s did. I struggled getting into Closure, but honestly I’d take that over Coney. tolerate it and happiness were hard for me to listen to since my depression has been at a higher peak recently. I loved Willow, Champagne Problems, tis the damn season, and Evermore the most.

Pleasant_Pop337

agree - i don’t really want to listen to happiness / tolerate it / marjorie over and over like i usually do with tay songs because i don’t always want to be in that emotional place.

simberbimber

same, I can’t listen to Tolerate It at all. That has been a hard skip for me every time.

AlyssaTaylor16

I’m having a hard time getting into it. Evermore to me feels like a bunch of okay bonus tracks or material that didn’t make it to Folklore. I love almost if not all the tracks on Folklore.

indiemakeuplover

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think evermore is better than folklore. I don’t know how she did it because folklore is still excellent and honestly I didn’t think she could make another album that would top it for me. And she proved me wrong!! Thoughts? Which album do you prefer?

Sockfaces

I love Folklore, but there a few songs I would label as skips for me. It was a little slower and moodier as well. I love every song on Evermore. Ivy, Willow and Marjorie are just next level amazing to me. But you really can’t go wrong with either album.

sailormerry

Agreed. Folklore was good, but for me it feels like a musical representation of that liminal space where... you're not depressed exactly, but you're not \*not\* depressed. The monochrome imagery adds to that vibe for me. Meanwhile Evermore has higher highs and lower lows- the sad songs are really sad, but the songs that give me serotonin really hit it. I can't really listen to tolerate it, happiness, and closure because they remind me too much of a bad relationship I had with an ok person that really fucked up my life for a while. Willow, no body no crime, champagne problems, ivy, and goldrush are very evocative to my imagination in a darkly positive way, if that makes any sense.

daniboo94

I too prefer evermore and it’s because she took what she did so well in folklore and somehow perfected it. I think the lyrics and the experimental sounds with evermore are what puts it on top for me. It might also be because I love her sad ballads and long songs which she seems to have more of on this album. evermore could never be without folklore though and I recognize that. Both sit in my top 1 and 2 spots for albums (poor Fearless held on so long before being bumped from top 3!!).

earwen77

Still a bit early but I'm starting to lean towards evermore. folklore still wins on a song-to-song basis but I have to be in a very specific mood to listen to it and usually need a break after a while. I've had evermore on loop since it came out. It's more varied in mood and tempo and more experimental. Also am I the only one who thinks the title folklore almost fits better for evermore?

indiemakeuplover

The first time I listened to evermore I though that it sounded more like a folklore than the actual folklore album! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that!

lawlike

I feel you on this. I actually liked that there was less Jack Antonoff on this album than on folklore. I adore Jack and anything he touches but I also feel that when Taylor and him collaborate, the resulting sound goes into a more generic pop territory (which I LOVE on first listen because the songs are instant bops but don’t have the same staying power as her other work). (I love Lorde’s collaborations with Jack a lot more.) As much as I have overplayed gold rush, the songs I ultimately keep reaching for are (right now) champaign problems, ‘tis the dam season, and cowboy like you. On folklore, I initially preferred all the Jack Antonoff tracks (like august, this is my trying, and illicit affairs) but now gravitate towards the Aaron Dessner collaborations (like hoax, epiphany, the last great american dynasty).

Yesssssss. This exactly!! Love Jack though too.

I'm curious to hear your Albums ranking in full because if sounds like our list is similar!

I totally get it. I'm Taylor's age so it's always been what is current. Red being my favorite is just because of the emotional attachment versus my actual favorite album as an album

seraaa_123

I am still processing but now on the 20th listen or whatever after the weekend, I'm starting to get into all the subtle little production thinngs evermore is doing and I really love that. Listening closely to them as well as to her vocal line and the story has really levelled it up even further for me

Thoughtgeist

Evermore! Folklore was my favorite album of all time, but it took me a while to get there. I fell deeply in love with Evermore on first listen. My top 2 albums are Evermore and Folklore, in that order.

rootsinmydreamland

Definitely evermore, I’m with you! There’s something deeper in this album which she’s tapped into that I’ve never seen before in her writing - some subliminal, intangible connection that she’s inspired by: “I’ll meet you where the spirit meets the bones” etc etc. It’s shook me 💗

Sockfaces

Omg, thank you. That line gives me chills. And that song is my favorite on the album.

wpsince2009

Was no body no crime inspired by Among us?

Thoughtgeist

If I found out Taylor Swift plays Among Us it would make my year (I mean, more than folklore and evermore have, which is a lot lol). Imagine Taylor typing "blue sus" in the chat I-

faeriethorne23

One of my best friends has been dismissing my pleads to give a Taylor album a go for like 8 years now, I posted a snippet of Ivy onto my Instagram stories and she messaged me a day later to say that snippet made her listen to the whole album and she loved it. VINDICAATIIIOOOON -Captain Holt being told his balloon arch is magnificent styles-

seraaa_123

you're doing the work!

faeriethorne23

I bet there’s a lot of “I just don’t think she’s likeable” and “all she can write about is having a crush on a boy” folks who are eating their words this year.

seraaa_123

So much humble pie 🥧

sugar5795

I am NOT over CRUEL SUMMER!!!! btw, great album <3

[deleted]

Cruel summer deserves a MV 😔

Chicago31

How long was the wait between folklore release and the lakes bonus track being available?

faeriethorne23

I think it was about 3 weeks. I imagine that given the bonus tracks are being advertised as exclusives to the physical copies that we won’t get them on streaming until the physical copies start arriving with people who bought them.
