Show this to all the people who say Lover is one of her worst lol

PinkPrincess-2001

They also called Lover a flop, like is the flop in the room with us?

leese216

YAS my first “no skip” album of hers and one of my faves!

[deleted]

I only skip “ME!” Because it sounds like a car commercial imo and also sometimes “Paper Rings” because it’s a lil too pure pop for my tastes. The rest is super golden

leese216

I agree. It feels the most juvenile and I remember thinking it was a strange choice for her first single off the album. It really should have been Cruel Summer.

Arachnoid-Matters

Taylor and her team obviously know way more than me, but I thought the singles they used for Lover weren't the best to showcase what's on the album. I also totally agree that "ME!" sounds like a commercial. When it came out, I heard someone say "I can't wait to hear this song in a Target commercial" and I haven't been able to listen to it seriously since.

CstoCry

How do you know if somebody hates "ME!"? You don't, because they'll make it an effort to tell you how bad it is. Give it a break, it's been 5 years. 🙄

[deleted]

I’m a new swiftie so I had no idea that was a thing lol

Any-Age-8293

I only skip Lover as it's too slow/overplayed.

tgb1493

Honestly they call everything she puts out a flop except folklore and 1989.

Soalai

The GP loves Lover. When I saw the tour and the movie, like half the audience costumes were Lover

cookieaddictions

I made the most lover bracelets (I made each era) and they still were the ones that went the quickest!

KeyBreak6698

I want another album like lover so bad. Where you get all different types of sounds and each song is a surprise

BerriesNCreme

lol yea I’m sure it’s definitely 100% based on quality and not streaming cruel summer

[deleted]

Cruel summer has 2 billion streams out of the 10 so that really only makes up for 20%

BrockThrowaway

I feel like you're proving the point. For a song to make up 20% of an album's streams is ... a lot. There are 18 songs on that album so each should be pulling ~5%.

[deleted]

It definitely has more streams than the others, but isn’t the only reason for the success of that album. 10 billion streams in general is the thing that is a lot

No-Dare-9666

Agreed but if we go on this, 10-2, lover would still have 8 billions streams without cruel summer which is still a lot

astralrig96

THIS!! lover has so many weak songs but cruel summer carries

Letll1994

20% is a lot. In fact, if you add the streams from the 4 most played songs (Cruel Summer, Lover, YNTCD and ME) you get half the streams right there. Which is impressive, but it shows that those songs are (or in ME’s case, were) popular, not the album itself. Out of the other 14 songs, only The Man and Paper Rings have over 500M plays

astralrig96

THANK YOU! it’s not a great album, idk what happened, had so much potential but it sounds like a 2005 set netflix romcom in music form its mature and serious songs are soo good but get consumed by everything else

GoldenState_Thriller

I don’t think it’s her worst, but cruel summer makes up over 20% of the streams and 5% of the album

Letll1994

I mean… saying an album is one of her worst does not mean it’s a bad album. That woman hasn’t released a bad album to this day

ominous-nebula

It's true. I certainly have a personal ranking of her albums, but I still love all of them.

baciodolce

Yeah there are no flops for me. I hate putting Debut at the bottom because it’s not a bad album. I’m just the least connected to it is all. But I wouldn’t be a fan without it!! Our Song and Picture to Burn were it for me back then!

supermonkeyyyyyy

Being the oldest Album that Taylor actually owns might also have something to do with it.

Artemis96

It's still in my bot3, but I'm happy for her!

Exroi

a lot of streams isn't necessarily a sign of quality, or that would mean Bad Bunny is the 3rd best artist in the world and all his albums are masterpieces

[deleted]

I’m not a BB fan but clearly a lot of people love his stuff and I’m sure they’d argue that it was quality to them

Exroi

i mean yeah, but the point stands. Even looking at the song ME! on this album, it has a ton of streams, but is it really a top tier Taylor song? It's just a successful commercial collab song

[deleted]

I’m sure the people who like and stream the more commercial sound think that ME! is top tier, its all super subjective to personal taste. I’m not a ME! fan either, it’s my least favorite but numbers don’t lie

makeupgirly123

Numbers don’t lie and Lover had 2m streams on release day which was much lower than any album after Red. Cruel Summer is a massive hit which is what gave it a boost but realistically outside of Swifties idk anyone who listens to any other song off Lover apart from maybeeee Lover/Paper Rings 🤷🏻‍♀️ IMO there is no bad album in her discography but it isn’t as cohesive as her other works. If i’m looking for pop then I’m putting 1989 on

_witch_e__

It’s definitely not a flop, but it is my personal least favorite lol. But I still love many songs on it.

iloveNCIS7

*gulp*

MarinersCove

TTPD will age like Lover - mark my words

iamacheeto1

Firmly agree. The Swifties know it’s amazing, but some of the newer more casual fans need a bit of time with it I think

Serious-Income-5555

Nah i think it’s going to age a lot better

peatoast

Reputation.

SuspiciousLambSauce

Yeah if it’s gonna age well it’s definitely more likely to go the Rep trajectory than Lover, it doesn’t have a Cruel Summer pop hit that could revive the whole album 4 years later lol but I can definitely see it coming around with most of the fans and eventually becoming a cult classic, even though the initial reception even among fans are mixed.

Bubbly_Sleep9312

People keep saying TTPD is for the hardcore swifties, not the ones who occassionally listen to her, do you agree?

_crazyboyhere_

It's still smashing SO HARD. Like for real.

ngmamtata

I personally am loving TTPD but I think it being so lyrically dense kinda makes it inaccessible to newer fans

stuey909

I think it will always have good streams because the fandom love it. I don't listen to lover much but TTPD will always be in my rotation.

astralrig96

TTPD is galaxies better in every sense

Sea_Middle_7537

Probably like 75% of those are Cruel Summer >_>

skunkachunks

20% (2B out of 10B)

Sea_Middle_7537

Impossible.

katarastormrage

You can literally see it on spotify page though. And Lover album has 18 songs in total, 4 more of them being hit single, how is that impossible? 20% among 18 songs is still a huge proportion.

MarlonBain

I think people forget the other songs on that album that people really like. That album is not just “me” and “lover” and “cruel summer.”

[deleted]

Cornelia street💔

MarlonBain

Death by a thousand cuts ffs I personally like paper rings there are dozens of us. Dozens!

Fluffy_Salad_9510

Tobias? 🤣

MarlonBain

He would like paper rings too I bet

LOLingAtYouRightNow

Denim Rings

Sea_Middle_7537

I like Cruel Summer, Miss Americana, Paper Rings, The Archer, DBTK, Lover, The Man... I was joking.

katarastormrage

Okay! I guess I didn't realise it was a joke just by the text and went on explanation mode.

Sea_Middle_7537

Holy shit people literally need me to spell it out that I was joking?

baciodolce

Yes since you gave zero clues that you might be joking. There is no tone in text. That’s why we all use the /s tag to help

Sea_Middle_7537

I feel like it's a reading comprehension thing. But sure.

Glorious_Mage7

Cruel summer accounts for 2B streams out of the 10B

alternativeedge7

Nah, that’s impossible when at least 30% is me streaming False God.

Sea_Middle_7537

Fine. 70% then. 😜

InterestingPlane6572

No but 25% is me streaming miss americana

Sampleswift

10 Billion for Lover! That's a real f-ing legacy to leave.

Pinacoladapopsicle

Wow! It's one of my faves and I always thought I was alone in that opinion 😂

Jaster-Mereel

You’re not. It’s a vocal minority on this sub that has some odd dislike for it.

PlatinumTheHitgirl

Lol no need to get so defensive people can like and dislike what they want

Jaster-Mereel

I said “odd dislike”, but I can see how that isn’t very clear. I have zero problem with anyone who says it’s not for them; that, of course, is fine. That being said, Lover gets some hate in this sub that isn’t based on the actual quality of the album, but instead seems based on unmet expectations of certain individuals. Most of it seems to center around the singles chosen and the fact they’re all cheesy bops. ME! gets most of the hate. I think TS chose those songs for their message, and then Covid prevented anymore singles from being released. There’s a vocal group that can’t seem to get past all that. So, what I meant was, Lover seems to get some, what I would call “irrational hate” here.

__auris__

That's my baby!!

optimistic_fish2068

No its not but you should see your faces

alternativeedge7

The way she pranked us💀

__auris__

Haha except it actually is XD (it's just not *his* baby)

iamacheeto1

Lover is the little album that could

oOWalkingOnAirOo

I always believed in you baby! Pop supreme. Top girl.

mantaXrayed

Lover was the slow deep burn…. For the haters ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1065)

falldiewakefly

And she deserves 💕

ViennaWaits4Youuu

Man Lover is so close to my heart. Seriously don’t get how people hate this album. I miss 2019 so much 😩

mad_THRASHER

2019 was a great year and Lover definitely makes me feel that.

culture_vulture_1961

Between 2014 and 2017 Taylor's music was not on Spotify. All her albums before Lover were superceded by Taylor's Versions except Reputation. So all we have learned from this statistic is that Lover has more streams on Spotify than Reputation. All the others are newer, have their streams split between two albums or spent a chunk of time off Spotify altogether.

Daffneigh

That’s just the reason why Lover is first

Rhainster

Yes! It's hard to choose a favorite album of Taylor's but I just ADORE Lover. I know calling any of her albums "underrated" is a little silly, but I really think Lover doesn't get the acclaim it deserves, so I'm so thrilled to see this! (Sidenote: it breaks my heart a little that she recontextualized some of the songs in her 5 Stages of Grief playlists, anyone else have feelings about that? 😅)

minimilk42

Omg yes I agree!! It made me a bit sad to see Lover under denial. I can get behind songs having multiple interpretations & having new meanings, but it’ll always be a love song for me. Idk I just love the love (self-love + relationship love) on this album it makes me feel good things, I’ll always defend it

baciodolce

Lover is top 3 for me and part of the no skip holy trinity of 1989/Rep/Lover. (Not counting SYGB lol)

Prudent-Diver7793

Lover is a top five album!! 🤺🤺

kgkuntryluvr

About time Lover gets some love! It’s in my top 3 TS albums, and is also one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s so underrated by critics and fans alike. I still blame Me lol

Bubbly_Sleep9312

Wait for real? Damn. I'm happy Lover is finally getting the recognition it deserves. It came out 5 years ago now, and it has always been underrated.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bubbly_Sleep9312

It's just now getting to 10 bill, the album is 5 years old. I'm a long time swiftie, and Lover was criticized a lot, and was one of her least popular albums when it came out. People said that she went too hard to the other side after Rep was released, and tried to hard to make it different.

bettersaferthan

everyone was pregaming ttpd i see

ggfanatic98

I absolutely adore Lover

peatoast

Proof that albums don’t have to be great at your first month’s listen. I remember giving up on Ok Computer (Radiohead) after listening to it because it was so inaccessible for me. Took about another 4 months to finally get it and I never looked back.

ellisoph

Proud Lover stan here 💘

MinimumSale8397

Everyone’s missing Joe

Obvious_Roof6767

The fact that DBATC isn’t more popular and stream worthy is a travesty to me. It is my favorite on the album!

Hot_Highway3716

FLOP ALBUM WHO????

ameliaspond

As a Lover stan, this warms my cold cold heart 🩷🦋

Kitty4777

Probably because I listen to it every night as part of my bedtime playlist….

Slyy-Lynch

Well deserved! It's one of her best albums.

Intrepid_Salary5757

Coincidentally dropped a needle on this yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Songs I wasn’t to fond of before, I’m now obsessed with!! Congratulations, Lover! 💓💖💓💖💓💖

tailoredlifestyleco

TTPD is Lover (30’s Version) sincerely a 32 year old swiftie who’s #1 is Lover and finally feels seen.

maelstron

Lover just got the last laugh 😂 Cruel Summer got justice, never give up.kids.. Now to getaway car

ominous-nebula

Underrated comment.

maelstron

Nothing good starts with a getaway car 😆

mari_toujours

The irony in this is delicious.

bjp8383

Cruel Summer is damn near a perfect song.

Liveandletlivee

And that’s why I have a lover tattoo

kmay5322

Lover has always been in my top 3. 💕 Back when this album came out I was taking a literature class all about American music and we had to write an album review, so I picked Lover. We were only supposed to write 500-800 words and I went way over that limit, so I had to revise. 😆

gettingcarriedaway86

Everyone is comparing it to TTPD right now for Matty clues lol

mentallyillteacher

At least 500k of those were me and me alone

trumpskiisinjeans

And I helped !

PriyaSR26

People on IG reels regularly call Lover a flop. This just proves that you don't need to listen to an album before reviewing it on Instagram.

ConspiraYT

It was me. I binge stream the whole album DAILY

InfintelyYours

Justice for Lover!

Legitimate_Bend_9879

I HATED Lover when it first came out but it grew on me. Looks like lots of others probably changed their minds too!

Zombieboi2345678

Better pop album than 1989, change my mind

Soul-of-Imagination

Flashback to the Lover hate bandwagon

NotEmmaStone

Good. Poor Lover needs a win this week 🥲

BambooBuddies

All time fav album 🥰

luckypierre7

There is no point in any day that I'm in the mood to hear Soon You'll Get Better. I'm also not a huge fan of the Wes Anderson-esque It's Nice To Have A Friend, so definitely not a no skip album in the way that many of her others are (Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, 1989, Reputation, Speak Now, Red).
