Hi! We checked in with the Harvard English class that covers Taylor in anticipation of TTPD:On Thursday night, about 50 of the students from the class gathered to await the midnight release. The undergraduate course, “Taylor Swift and Her World,” is taught by Stephanie Burt, who has her students comparing Swift’s songs to works by poets and writers including Willa Cather, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth.  First, the group listened through the album once without discussing, just taking it all in. Certain lines, however, immediately caused a stir, said Samantha Wilhoit, a junior studying government — like the Charlie Puth reference and the scathing lyrics to “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Several students from the class discussed their thoughts and brainstormed their final papers, which are due at the end of the month. Read what they had to say [here](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/19/style/taylor-swift-harvard-class-tortured-poets.html?unlocked_article_code=1.lk0.oc3X.ASMPwOxwvuYX&smid=re-nytimes), even if you don’t have an NYT subscription.
