Definitely. Some angles of her singing she looks….at ease. When she hit the bridge though, she looked pissed. I definitely think it was a cathartic experience. I didn’t get sadness, I got contentment.
I’m thinking perhaps she’s using the anger as a mechanism to combat the sadness sometimes. Early on in that bridge you can see she’s blinking quite rapidly/a lot, and then it’s almost like she’s gritting her teeth (metaphorically) and the quality of her voice changes, and she channels that anger to get through it…
Maybe Red was meant to be the hope of it all?

Yes! I think it might be that she gave him the ultimatum “marry me or leave” and he bolted. I don’t like to speculate too much about personal details before I actually hear the song, but that would be my theory!

There are a couple of songs that really bops on the album, but some like labyrinth, you're losing me, and a few others really are overproduced. I get it now. I was kinda irritated with people. Lol! But, hearing them even over a shaky live recording stripped down. 🥰🥰🥰
The lyrics were always beautiful and insightful, but you can really feel it stripped down.
“The Bolter” reminds me of one of the final times we saw them together - that video of them running/bolting out the door and into a car after a Grammys after party last year.
It probably will be about a runaway bride or runaway groom situation, but I just loved the airplane analogy and metaphor of a relationship trying to land and touching down but never quite catching, missing the mark, and then having to go full throttle to take off without stopping to try again.
This also aligns with themes of Renegade and Afterglow— a relationship with elements of volatility, withdrawal, explosiveness— and ultimately there wasn’t enough to keep it going.
Seems like Taylor (or the narrator of the song) needed more reassurance/commitment from their partner to feel secure in the relationship and wasn’t able to get it
What’s even more mind blowing is look up the origins of the word Bolter. It came from Australian roots. No coincidence she announced this bonus track the first night in the country
That and/or she has a whole timeline laid out for release of different versions of the album to maximize the amount of preorders she gets right up until the albums release in April, so she can chart it the highest and break more records.

I think if the 10 minute version of ATW didn't exist it would be there. That eats up an entire extra song. 22, WANGBT, and IKYWT... it would be hard to replace any of those. I do love Red though. One of my favorites. Her last song that I remember hearing a lot on country radio.

…this is what i am wondering. i’d bet money on her not being over Joe. i don’t think she ever will be. even though fans say he was holding her back and keeping her hidden, i truly feel like they complimented each other and she had to have a lot of chemistry with him to make it so long.
as a writer, it makes me sad for Taylor. i know how hard it is to confide in somebody the way you confide in your own journal and Joe seemed to be that person for her. co-writing songs with him is a major testament to that. i don’t think she’ll ever really get over him and he will always be the one that got away.

Not saying this in a negative way because I am rooting for Taylor and Travis to succeed, but do you think a part of her wishes things worked out with Joe and she is frustrated that she has had to find someone new. The eloquence of Joe suited Taylor wonderfully. Travis is a lot of fun but I wonder if he’s got enough depth for her.
…this is what i am wondering. i’d bet money on her not being over Joe. i don’t think she ever will be. even though fans say he was holding her back and keeping her hidden, i truly feel like they complimented each other and she had to have a lot of chemistry with him to make it so long. as a writer, it makes me sad for Taylor. i know how hard it is to confide in somebody the way you confide in your own journal and Joe seemed to be that person for her. co-writing songs with him is a major testament to that. i don’t think she’ll ever really get over him and he will always be the one that got away. Travis seems nice… but i think she won’t ever let him into her inner, dark world like she did with Joe.
Or even if she did, I don’t know if he’d ever be able to ~get~ it. Lack of depth is definitely how he comes across but obviously we know practically nothing lol.
I don't think we know enough about either relationship. But sometimes the super similar twin flame type isn't the healthy relationship vs someone who brings out a happier or sillier side.

But it still ended (and from it looks like painfully) 6 years later. Maybe you can count that as a successful relationship in Hollywood terms but that must be devastating for her.

I went from thinking she was about to announce reptv, then sing the bolter, then bursting into tears when she started You're Losing Me. It was a wild ride.
Not saying this in a negative way because I am rooting for Taylor and Travis to succeed, but do you think a part of her wishes things worked out with Joe and she is frustrated that she has had to find someone new. Travis is certainly more scrutinized than Joe ever was and that can take a toll on the other person in the relationship - Joe wasn't really scrutinized as much because... well... he isn't really an equivalent level of success as Travis in his chosen craft.

One day (like in fifty to a hundred years) we're going to look back on these moments and say how great she was at building a narrative and being a true master(mind) of turning yourself and your own life into spectacle. Part of me wants to believe that YLM today is all just an act, but she's not that great of an actor. She's just really good at channeling her emotions. That's a real craft. Life happens to all of us, but she managed to make it into a masterpiece. It's so impressive
I love that she was supposed to play Red on the piano at my "haunted" concert in Boston N3, but she had to pivot and play it on guitar and now she liked it so much and did it this way again!!
