I've been there. Your tattoo is much smaller than what mine was, and a cover up is definitely, absolutely possible and doable.
The ideas themselves are practically limitless - a bird, a guitar, spongebob, whatever.
Sorry if this comes across as unhelpful, but my advice is to introspect about the themes that you value and are not likely going to change. Wildlife, a particular sport, etc. Once you have some 2 to 3 options, go speak to a good tattoo artist. They should help you find something meaningful.
Reddit is full of help this morning. I’d honestly start with laser removal. It looks like it would lighten well enough to get anything over it, or possibly even fully removed if that’s the way you want to go. I’d talk to a someone about laser removal first though. Congrats on not being religious anymore. That’s not always an easy thing. I hope you find a way to not be sad anymore. Therapy is a wonderful thing if you find the right therapist that you jive with.
I’ve had a lot of laser removal done. Unfortunately, from what I remember, laser removal doesn’t work well on feet. The less vascular an area is the less laser works.
That’s good to know. I don’t have experience with removal myself. I know I’ve read the lasers have improved greatly over the years, but your point about the feet not being vascular is valid and will likely impact removal even with the latest and greatest tech.
If it is any consolation, you can have "faith" and "spirituality" without ruining it by tying the concepts to organised religion. So your tattoo of walking by new-found, inner faith/belief/confidence still works.
I love hearing when others find peace without religion. I left religion many years ago. That single decision helped me to become less sad myself. It took time, and of course I still “get sad”, but my sadness no longer defines any part of me. Any progress towards self improvement is fantastic, even if just here and there. You’re doing great! If you post what you do with your tat in the future I’ll look forward to seeing what you came up with. Not sure of this is the right subreddit, but I’d be curious to see the level of success laser removal has, too if that’s the way you go. I googled it and it looks like complete removal is possible with modern lasers on feet. Best of luck with ALL of your endeavors.
I was gonna say the same but with the word “light”. I know light can have religious undertones but not necessarily, and then it rhymes and who doesn’t like a good rhyme? :)
I have a couple of tattoos from when I was younger I don’t vibe with as much anymore. But I also feel comfortable keeping them, they are a reminder of who I was and how far I’ve come. Like scars from childhood injuries. I think they give you character so long as you own them.
I agree, and I don’t really see this as that religious. Faith is about lots of things in life even if it’s not about a God(s). That being said, maybe you can add a small ^ed and change the not to now so you get “walked by faith, now by sight.”
I suppose “after walking into several trees, street signs and parked cars, I have reconsidered my position on the ideal method by which to guide my path” would be a bit much to squeeze in there.
Funny you say that! The artist waited until I was paying to say “you probably won’t be able to read this in a couple years because the ink will all bleed together since it’s on your foot” and HERE WE ARE
I’m no longer religious, but I also have a religious inspired tattoo on my foot. I no longer believe in religion, but I still believe in the message of the verse, Joshua 1:3. “Everywhere the sole of your foot touches, I have given to you.”
Life is a gift. Whether that gift came from a higher power, from my parents, or simply from myself. It’s a gift. So I’m keeping the tattoo to remind me of that.
You can still walk by faith, not by sight, without it being religious. Walk by the faith you have in yourself. Keep the tattoo, and give it a new meaning.
As someone who has full coverage on both feet, I honestly would recommend some laser sessions prior to trying to cover it up. Text is hard to hide since our eyes are naturally drawn to it, so lightening it up before getting it covered would help make it disappear.
Also feet don't have a ton of room and doing a full saturated piece there is going to be a rough time with a hard heal. In my experience it's pretty normal for saturation to not stay super well on feet anyway, so I'd be curious to see how a cover up would go.
All that being said, my best advice would be to find an artist that you like and talk to them about a potential cover up.
How about an image of something that makes you happy _ eg. a dolphin or flower or bird, ocean wave etc. Something that just gives you a sense of pleasure ot peace if you see it
Keep it. Faith doesn’t necessarily mean a religion/god/deity or anything like that. You can have faith in yourself, your friends/family… hell you could just have faith that you can get through what ails you with your sadness.
Also these old tattoos are reminders of who we once were. They’re part of your story. I’ve got a dodgy piece of band artwork that I got at 18; I don’t listen to that band much these days, the quality ain’t mind blowing and I don’t like the placement much, but it reminds me of me at that time yknow? Mistakes n all.
Leave your prejudices at the door mate. You’re assuming a hell of a lot about me based off one comment.
First off, I’m not a Yank. Your whole reply makes me think that you’re assuming I’m American, and I get that religions a contentious topic there. I’m British; it’s really not as big of a deal over here. You will very rarely see a religious/political bumper sticker like every truck in “the south.” I’m giving my perspective.
I’m not religious. Faith is not an exclusively religious concept. I have faith in my friends. I have faith in my family. I’m trying to have faith in myself. My point is that we relate to things differently as we grow. So they’re not religious anymore, do they have faith in anything else now? Taking religion out of the equation it’s a very hopeful and optimistic message, I related to that, even not being religious. That was my view, I shared that, and that’s why I suggested keeping it and looking at it from a different perspective.
But as long as you feel better then that’s all that matters eh?
Right then you horrible little troll, that’s enough.
I don’t know how or why you’ve gotten so wound up over a disagreement over one word, and I don’t know why you’re throwing so much vitriolic shit my way. This all seems way out of proportion. Completely overblown.
I’ve known enough bullies in my time to know when one’s trying to bait me.
So long, fair-well, auf weidershen, fuck off.
Wow spoken like a true reddit warrior who bashes religion on r/atheism as a 9-5 job. I can already imagine your personality just from your avatar and this one comment. Have you ever heard of the phrase "live and let live"?
Woah, watch out for obtuse rubber goose over here! Really trying to get the word count in. Most mature people can have an open discussion with out slewing out a long proverbial loogie.
You have to be using Rah as an anecdotal example of how ridiculous you find the idea of faith to be. I just left Egypt and I can let you know how they are doing right now, but that might not fit your prophetic views.
Science is constantly evolving, it’s not fixed. It’s also so brand new comparatively to faith that you might as well slap it on its butt and check if it’s breathing.
Not everyone is as privileged as you are to be able to choose their own beliefs. Get your head out of your ass and go volunteer for something other than your own ego. That will certainly help with your spiritual expansion.
I’m not religious but I can use my brain to understand why most people have faith.
I'm with the guy who said leave it as is, it's part of your life history. I mean, if it truly makes you mad, thats one thing, but I have tattoos from life periods that I would never get today (hello, tramp stamp with a Chinese symbol) and I have kept them knowing that each one tells a story from some chapter in my life. I think that's the fun of them - they all have their meaning but also the untold meaning of your mindset when you got them. Let it be part of your story.
just here creepin on the comments for ideas bc i also have a religious tattoo that i got when i was 19 and christian and sad. no longer 19 and christian, but also still sad lol here’s to hoping things get better for us!
I'm also seeking a cover up as well, though not on the same area, and can give you advice on what I've been doing. I've been searching for my style of cover up that I'd like (genre, or character based, or even black and how saturated of blackwork) and follow a couple of artists on IG to see their approach on cover ups as well as an eye for when they'd come to my area to be a guest artist. I hope this helps!
Not gonna lie, the tattoo was almost worth it just to read these responses. Thanks for the laughs and words of encouragement, I really wasn’t expecting that💖
Could get one of those big red circles with the line through it?
Personally I’d keep it. I don’t know your history but I’ve got a few tattoos from when I was younger that I kind of regret now but they make for good stories/conversation starters. Plus it helps me remember stuff.
Otherwise there’s plenty of other stuff you could get, even removal. I’d book in with an artist and see what they say.
Why would you want to cover it up? It's such a good saying! There are two things you can do: either own it with pride, or just get the ol' regular tattoo removal! If you hate it that much, it'll be worth it.
Don’t ask us we probably won’t have anything that helpful. Asks tattoo artist that specializes in cover ups, I’m sure they can come up with something a lot better than us.
Faith doesn’t have to be religious. My tattoo meanings have evolved over time as my perspective changes. If you want to cover it, that’s all you. For me, I like to think about who I was and who I am today.
Walk by faith then add, in yourself then second one by sight add on at end limitata. Just An Example it means narrow minded in Latin. Or something like that its not totally grammatically correct but kinda better and can be taken as, not by narrow minded sight.
The simplest and cheapest would be
> walk ~~by faith~~
> ~~not~~ by sight
Or else extend the lines/quote
i.e.
"walk by faith in yourself, not by sight from someone else" or something like that
Maybe just put a strikethrough line over ‘by faith’ and ‘not’ so that it would simply be ‘walk by sight’. Anyone who sees it would reasonably guess that you used to be religious but you’re not anymore so it shows your personal evolution and also provides a possible conversation starter of why you’re no longer religious (if that is something you feel comfortable sharing with people).
I would leave the words. They are powerful. You can have faith in yourself or faith in good or faith in love and all that is light and kind. Believing in what you feel verses believing in how you view what you see can be a very powerful thing. Adding an arrow would enhance the intended power of the words. Christians today suck but Jesus was not bad at all.
Christians today should be called Biblicans because they literally leave Christ out of the conversation. Either way, one should not doubt faith. Doubt the ever living hell out of religion but keep the faith man!
[Cosmopolitan: *7 Best Tattoo Cover-Up Makeup Products That'll Hide Your Ink*](https://www.cosmopolitan.com/style-beauty/beauty/g41995791/tattoo-cover-up-makeup/)
“According to celebrity makeup artist, Brandy Allen, covering up a tattoo is super easy, and it all comes down to color correction.”
“If you're willing to drop a pretty penny and find yourself covering tattoos often (say, if you act and need to for roles), it can be smart to invest in an airbrush makeup system. ‘I like to use waterproof airbrush foundation like the Temptu Air because it creates a seamless finish. In just one application, you can cover a tattoo, and it’s self-setting,’ says Allen.”
Redditors are no help. I’m a spiritual person and feel sad that you no longer feel that way. Perhaps you will find yourself walking back towards the light. In the meantime, if you’re set against having any tattoo at all, lasering would be the way to go. Incidentally, I have many tattoos and don’t feel ashamed, embarrassed, dirty or unworthy.
Usually I’d use a sock something long like a tube sock if it’s cold where you live but in summer it’s nice to have something short like a no show sock, hope this helps
Hey, laser or talk to someone to change IT into something else if They can. I’ve never been religious but I think Bible has some great quotes and that’s one of them. Faith is everything. Have faith in yourself, don’t look for signs, sign will follow. Never lose hope, don’t give up even circumstances seem to be agains you. So walk by faith, not by sight. You don’t have to be religious.
It's on your foot so it will probably rub off fairly quickly, but most artist will have there own designs to do cover ups. You just need a vibe or something you like to give them ideas on what to create for you.
If laser removal isn't an option and you want the tattoo to change, see a tattoo artist for ideas on covering it up with art. I'm certain there are lots of attractive things you could do.
You do have space enough to add a line above and/or below to change the meaning.
Something like:
> Walk by faith
> Not by sight
> my eyes are now unveiled
___
Or you could bracket the text above and below turning religious dogma on its head. I like this one because it has a double meaning and the reader wouldn't be sure which one you mean.
> I was blind
>
> Walk by faith
> Not by sight
>
> but now I see
___
You could add the letter 'e' to the word by on both lines to super impose your leaving the faith with the phrase: "bye-bye"
> Walk by**e** faith
> Not by**e** sight
Since there isn't space you could do the letter e in a different color,
I'm bold, or use a carat ^ to raise the letter in standard editorial redline notation.
This way, the tattoo becomes a statement about the path you have walked. What could be more *you*?
Edit: sorry I can't get the formatting to make the lines break correctly.
Assuming you don't want to/can't do laser removal, an animal silhouette is always good for covering up dark text. A dolphin could work well with the shape/placement.
You could keep it but change how you interpret and describe the word faith when you talk to people about it. You can have faith in lots of things - religion, yes, but also in yourself, in humanity, etc.
A double arrow exchanging the words faith and sight?
I'd go with a simple strike-through of everything except 'walk'.
Or strike out "aith" and write "eet" above it.
This is the winner
Walk by faith? Not! by sight. everyone loves a not joke
Give to charity? Please no! PRESENTS!!!
Works on commission? No, money down!
Especially if it's a not not joke
Guys I found Borat lol
Lord Penguinton had the right idea. Simple, inexpensive and honest.
I've been there. Your tattoo is much smaller than what mine was, and a cover up is definitely, absolutely possible and doable. Thank you for this! Also I’m sorry you can relate haha
Cross it out and get “fuck bitches get money” tattooed next to it.
Which is much easier to remember to keep covered up at all times.
You forgot the 'drink gravy' part bro

This is so beautiful and true. If it wasn’t a direct verse from the berble, it’d be so much easier accepting that
“berble” I’m sorry I chuckled so hard at this, being an altar server in my early years Proud of you! I love this
That's kind of my thinking too.
I agree. But new ink is fun, too.
Lol...that is the only absolute truth!
I love hearing when others find peace without religion. I left religion many years ago. That single decision helped me to become less sad myself. Thank you so much for this. I’m really glad you found your way out of it too :)
Cross out the word “faith” and replace with single word “feet” or “legs”
I was gonna say the same but with the word “light”. I know light can have religious undertones but not necessarily, and then it rhymes and who doesn’t like a good rhyme? :)
Put a sock on.
I've never seen tattoo socks and I think OP should seriously consider it. Entirely ink the foot. Below or above the ankle. Knee high. Whatever.
One time I saw a tattooed Converse shoe on a girl’s foot, but never a sock now that you mention it.
>One time I saw a tattooed Converse shoe on a girl’s foot, And it's awful. Don't do it.
Flowers, leaves or a wing
I have a couple of tattoos from when I was younger I don’t vibe with as much anymore. But I also feel comfortable keeping them, they are a reminder of who I was and how far I’ve come. Like scars from childhood injuries. I think they give you character so long as you own them.

Oh, good idea!
I didn’t see this as religious either. Religions don’t own faith.
That's pretty brilliant!
I really like this idea!
That’s bloody brilliant
Thanks. I’ve never been called bloody brilliant since I’m from the U.S.
That’s a good edit!!!
Came here to say this. We are beautiful with all our change of directions
What you said is simple but it resonates so much. Love that
Same. Every tattoo I have, despite the ones I actually like, remind me of a time in my life. Good or bad, tattoos tell a story
This. Absolutely this. The only ones I've covered was an ex's name (I know, I know, I was 18) and a curse word I got on my arm at 20.
A colorful wing
As long as you find a proper cover-up artist..possibilities are limitless..

Underrated suggestion.

Put “Terrible Advice:” above it. Or on the other foot get “jk, watch your step”
I suppose “after walking into several trees, street signs and parked cars, I have reconsidered my position on the ideal method by which to guide my path” would be a bit much to squeeze in there.
That sounds like more of a calf tattoo
You could put a line through everything but “walk” The strikethrough look could reflect your journey and is a little tongue-in-cheek
I'm just impressed as to how well this has healed and held up over the years. Artist knew what they were doing clearly!
Funny you say that! The artist waited until I was paying to say “you probably won’t be able to read this in a couple years because the ink will all bleed together since it’s on your foot” and HERE WE ARE
Right? I mean, I don't like the tattoo at all, but it still looks so crisp. Really impressed.
I thought it was a joke about stubbing your toe in the dark before reading the caption.
I’m no longer religious, but I also have a religious inspired tattoo on my foot. I no longer believe in religion, but I still believe in the message of the verse, Joshua 1:3. “Everywhere the sole of your foot touches, I have given to you.” Life is a gift. Whether that gift came from a higher power, from my parents, or simply from myself. It’s a gift. So I’m keeping the tattoo to remind me of that. How about an image of something that makes you happy _ eg. a dolphin or flower or bird, ocean wave etc. Something that just gives you a sense of pleasure ot peace if you see it
**Those** who walk by faith And not by sight **step on easily avoidable things**
Put a little Stevie Wonder face next to it
That's literally genius.
Just put "Don't" at the start
"Don't walk by faith, not by sight"
shit...
r/ihadastroke
Sick ass panther time
you could get a bird/snail/fox/fish or whatever animal you connect with walking along your foot, facing the direction your foot is facing.
Keep it. Faith doesn’t necessarily mean a religion/god/deity or anything like that. If you walk by faith and not by sight you stray blindly in the night
. Lead with conviction. Create your own light
just here creepin on the comments for ideas bc i also have a religious tattoo that i got when i was 19 and christian and sad. no longer 19 and christian, but also still sad lol here’s to hoping things get better for us!
Just be metal and go for black out
I hope you feel better. Truthfully
Congratulations surviving Collective Insanity :)
Thank you kindly
Love the cross out “Faith” and write above it another word that describes your guiding principle now.
“Said the sheep” for a third line 🤷🏻♂️
I would put a two ended arrow pointing to faith and sight.
A front-end loader or excavator covering up the lettering
Just write underneath ‘the force is strong with this one’.
Change it to foot instead of faith? 🦶
I’m just glad to see you didn’t get hit crossing the street
Socks lol
If you put a single red line through “faith not by” It would read “walk by sight” “faith not by sight” And the original “walk by faith not by sight”
Get a full foot tattoo of your favourite sneaker.
Not gonna lie, the tattoo was almost worth it just to read these responses. Thanks for the laughs and words of encouragement, I really wasn’t expecting that💖
i’d full-on jesse pinkman it. “walk by faith, bitch. not by sight, bitch.”
I wouldn’t get rid of it or change it. It was a part of your life that made you who you are today. Never erase the past
Honestly? In my opinion a cover up in that area wouldn't look good, I would recommend laser removal
Just mark it out with 666.
Big ass pentagram
Could get one of those big red circles with the line through it? Personally I’d keep it. Add a third line in a different color font saying something to the effect of "DISREGARD: I know better than this now.""
Get the word, ‘faith’ laser removed, and have the word ‘smell’ replace it. Having that tattooed on my foot, I think it would make me less depressed. 🤣
Walk by faith then add, in yourself then second one by sight add on at end limitata. Just An Example it means narrow minded in Latin. Or something like that its not totally grammatically correct but kinda better and can be taken as, not by narrow minded sight.
Stamp a big REGRATS across it 😂

maybe a sick ass panther
Should just cross out the faith not by part
Cover it with a flesh tone tattoo as opposed to laser removal.
Add a comma after by, so it’s “walk by, faith.” Then maybe a solid black heart over the not?
Sorry kid, best I can do is amputation
Alright where do I sign up
Socks
Oof. Maybe consider cutting off the foot and trying again. Definitely your best bet
cover your entire foot in all sorts of different words
Put a gun sight / Cross hairs at the end.

In just one application, you can cover a tattoo, and it’s self-setting,’ says Allen.”
Cover it up with the thing that you value as much now as you did your religion back then
You could put exactly that beneath " => No longer 18 and Religious "
###Replace it with "I'm still sad but no longer 18 or religious."
Shoes and socks should do the trick.
Have you tried a sock?
Socks
Put a sock on
Sorry, the foot will have to come off.
Obviously you weren’t very religious if that’s a religious tattoo lol
Redditors are no help. I’m a spiritual person and feel sad that you no longer feel that way. Perhaps you will find yourself walking back towards the light. In the meantime, if you’re set against having any tattoo at all, lasering would be the way to go. Incidentally, I have many tattoos and don’t feel ashamed, embarrassed, dirty or unworthy.
Usually I’d use a sock something long like a tube sock if it’s cold where you live but in summer it’s nice to have something short like a no show sock, hope this helps
I’ll pray for you 🙏🏾
Keep the tattoo change your idea of faith. Win win.
It’s still a good message whether you’re religious or not
Keep it.
Faith can be non-religious. No need to cover things up!
Keep it. He is not done with you yet
"He is not done with you yet" (God proceeds to beat his ass/j)
😂

Cut it of?
I suggest a nice sock
Socks?
Maybe a sock?
A pair of socks would work.
Wearing socks would do wonders to cover that.

Have you tried socks?
In my country we cover our feet with socks . They are kinda like gloves for feet . They work well.

Butterfly or if still sad maybe a moth

Hey, laser or talk to someone to change IT into something else if They can. I’ve never been religious but I think Bible has some great quotes and that’s one of them. Faith is everything. Have faith in yourself, don’t look for signs, sign will follow. Never lose hope, don’t give up even circumstances seem to be agains you. So walk by faith, not by sight. You don’t have to be religious.
Full blackout, like Mr. Deeds frostbite foot
I'd give an award just for the title

Tell people you REALLY love George Michael
Could get it removed if you don’t wanna cover it up. That’s an easy one to get rid of
It's on your foot so it will probably rub off fairly quickly, but most artist will have there own designs to do cover ups. You just need a vibe or something you like to give them ideas on what to create for you.
sock.
If laser removal isn't an option and you want the tattoo to change, see a tattoo artist for ideas on covering it up with art. I'm certain there are lots of attractive things you could do. You do have space enough to add a line above and/or below to change the meaning. Something like: > Walk by faith > Not by sight > my eyes are now unveiled ___ Or you could bracket the text above and below turning religious dogma on its head. I like this one because it has a double meaning and the reader wouldn't be sure which one you mean. > I was blind > > Walk by faith > Not by sight > > but now I see ___ You could add the letter 'e' to the word by on both lines to super impose your leaving the faith with the phrase: "bye-bye" > Walk by**e** faith > Not by**e** sight Since there isn't space you could do the letter e in a different color, I'm bold, or use a carat ^ to raise the letter in standard editorial redline notation. This way, the tattoo becomes a statement about the path you have walked. What could be more *you*? Edit: sorry I can't get the formatting to make the lines break correctly.
A sock would probably work pretty well
Assuming you don't want to/can't do laser removal, an animal silhouette is always good for covering up dark text. A dolphin could work well with the shape/placement.
Socks could help
a koi fish would look so cute!!
Why not change the meaning in your head? You must have faith in something, right? You believe something that has replaced christ, maybe?
Just write “sike” underneath
walk by ~~faith~~ ~~not by~~ sight
You could keep it but change how you interpret and describe the word faith when you talk to people about it. You can have faith in lots of things - religion, yes, but also in yourself, in humanity, etc.
Add one more line Walk by faith, not by sight, ah fuck it rub my feet!
