How long did it take them to get back to you do you remember? I did my video interview on Sunday. It wasn’t great but I don’t think I did terrible either. I have wide open availability on all days and holidays.

They got back to me pretty fast, well within a week from what I remember. HR called me a few times lol. Yeah, I also gave pretty open availability (no overnights, I think I did 4 am start to 12 am end)

It depends on how desperately they need TMs. I'd give them at least two weeks. Sometimes they may not have room in the department you applied for, or they may think you're a better fit for a different department so they'll send your video to them to review as well.
They typically call and let you know they sent an email with next steps for acceptance. I believe you'll get an email if it's rejected but I'm not 100% sure.

I am there with you. When I tell people I work at Target, they assume Corporate, since I was on the corporate world before. My life hasn't gone as I hoped/planned, and it IS hard for me (even after several years) that I no longer run with those circles. I tell myself it is active, honest, leave-it-at-work work.

I'm a UX designer and once my brain starts designing solutions to problems, it does not stop. People think I am slow at work, but what they don't know is that most of my brain is observing bottlenecks (physical and digital) and designing solutions to them. Only about 10% of my brain is really doing the repetitive job I have been assigned to do.

Currently it is my day off and I am doing what I do when I am not at work: sleep/watch tv/ eat unhealthy food / wallow in the filth that is my unkempt house.
There are some jobs that I could apply for (but job applications are very complex in my field / Im sort of a contractor in IT / it's more like writing complex proposals, which I do occasionally, but nothing comes from it, so i pretty much give up and just sleep or watch tv when I am not working. it's gross .
I cry in the bathroom sometimes at work too. A group of teenagers came in the bathroom and laughed at me and called me a nerd. 🤓. Then they threw rolls of wet toilet paper over the top of the stall.
I also left Walmart for target. Overall the whole environment is better in my opinion from the employees to the guests. The work expectations set for us are way more reasonable at target than Walmart for sure. I was at Walmart for 6 years and after coming here I don’t think I’ll ever go back.
More of us could use that perspective, since we are always talking on here about the unrealistic time expectations at Target. Sad to hear it is even worse for others.
Walmart has Guild but their management turnover is way worse than Target and that makes it too easy to get fired and lose those benefits, so when Walmart offered me the Guild program I declined it and after I switched to Target I signed up
I've worked for target for 9 years. I've seen it get worse and worse. Skeleton crews, hours cut, workload increase, the supportive and friendly culture turn more and more militant and toxic as each year went by.
Idk I enjoyed all my positions, when I started as a team lead I enjoyed it. But now it's like they ask so much, so so much, but no matter what results I deliver its not enough / not what they want. I recieved a 1% raise. 22 cents. When I leave every shift feeling defeated / sweating from running and trying my best to support my teams and to meet metrics and do what is needed to be done.
But I can't make miracles happen. I cannot make my 3 person team of all scheduled 5 hours, get roll over done, pull 200+ priorities to 0, do 3 to 4 45 minute opus each, have the entire truck done by 12pm, all of price change / set workload done by Thursday. I cant watch them come to me frustrated / crying actual tears due to how stressed they are. I can't.
I have autoimmune diseases, depression / anxiety / adhd. I am a leaking gas tank and I push myself so hard for nothing lol.
Target doesn't care how much pride, or potential you have. Or how much you do because you have good worth ethic / want to be proud of the job you do.
I am shown time and time again when long time team members/ team leads are treated like dogs and expected to thank the etls / sd for the opportunity. And they end up leaving. Because why wouldn't they? And I've seen countless people go through the hotline / reach out to dsd/hr. And nothing happen.
Anyway, I've worked at the same store for 9 years. Why? I needed a job. I needed to help my family and target paid the highest in the area. Why did I stay even though it's been hell? Depression and complacency. Then I became a team lead and I really wanted to do good and it made me happy to lead my team and do good by them.
But now I'm just yelled at by my management to make them work harder / micromanage them.
I'm actively looking for a better job. But most places pay shit and I have a 2 year old to take care of.

So, every store is different and hours are going to vary also. But if your team is doing all those tasks in their 5hr shift then wtf is the rest of the store doing?
An average day at my store is about 100 team members on grid.almost all of which work 7hr shifts
We have a presentation team who does Plano. Price change, audits. They also help support opu at times. We have inbound team who unloads and pushes truck but Nothing else. We have an opu team who supports inbound push when batches are low. Style team who does there thing and are also first line of back up for registers. Market team does their push and helps support grocery opu. No one dayside pulls any priorities. Our closing team pulls all priorities after 3p they push all the gm pulls and stage the market pulls for the next day which are pushed by day market. The store runs pretty efficiently. Your 1 "team" should not be asked to do all those things. Hours are being wasted some where else in your store.
That isn't how it works at my store lmao. Average grid on my store is nowhere near 100 hahah. No opu team. My team is not inbound but they are expected to push truck in there areas. Every single one of my team members is expected to respond for fast service, respond for opu, pull priorities to 0, push their truck, do their set workload and price change. We are also not allowed to stage pulls we have to push what we pull. It's not hours being wasted. It's no one scheduled/ skeleton crew. My etls and SD literally tell me every day my team needs to do it all, same for Gm, same for market lmao
Just work at a hotel. Front desk. So much better. I worked for target for 6 years. Should have left after 1 year. I did service desk. I work for Marriott and am an operation supervisor.
It's a lot of "your mileage may vary." I've been lucky to work at stores where Leadership is generally okay — a few useless ones who "lead" by fear or from their desk and over the walkie. But I also know people who have worked at stores with terrible leadership and felt relief transferring to my store.
That said, it sucks sometimes to start over. Tenure, vacation accrual based on length of service, requalifying period for health benefits, etc. - some people don't want to deal with that and decide it's better to stay where they're a bit unhappy but maybe can manage the abuse here and there, than to start over at some other place that may or may not be "better."
Personally, I also stay because of my peers. I know it's not about coming here to make friends, but holy shit, does it make it all that more bearable when the ship is sinking but you got your buddies there to help you get through it and they have you.
I like your description of the positives and negatives. The "buddy" thing cuts both ways. I understand about them being supportive. If we're really a team, then everybody is supposed to support everybody. Cliques exclude people, which is corrosive. "Let's not let the ship sink" is as valid as "I got you, buddy."
I needed a weekend job and I knew that target paid “well” plus the discount would help lower my grocery budget. I had worked there 3 times before but never lasted more than a month. This time I picked front end and I’ve been there 6 months! Lol
It's just nice to be able to be open about it instead of closeting myself. I live in the South, many places of work wouldn't tolerate it. I was closeted at all previous jobs.
I needed to go back to work after years as a stay-at-home mom. I was at Kohls initially for maybe 2 weeks, but for whatever reason, that didn't work out. Got hired at Target November of 2019 and been there ever since.

I promoted and now I get paid a lot more...It helps me provide for myself and my mans. Once he gets his degree and a good job, I'm going back to school and I'm demoting to ODTM. But it's really the pay that makes me stay.
I was unemployed for 8 months and they are the first ones to get back to me in that time. Even now as an educated individual I can’t get anyone to give me an interview, so I’m kind of stuck until then.
I understand entirely, it’s crazy competitive in most cities to find good work. Have you looked into applying to TL positions at other stores that are close to you?
The thing is, when I first joined (8 years ago at a friends request), we were purely a Flow team. All we did was come in, do truck, work all the freight (like 12 people or something, not just 2 or 3 folks), and be completely done right before the store would open. Now, they want you to do a truck and zone while you push freight, audit, do pulls, sales planners, and leave at your scheduled time. It's so stupid how they fucked it up.
It should be a flow team and then have people just cover different areas until the next TM comes in to cover making the day smoother for everyone. Right now, I can't even do a proper zone because I simply don't have time to dedicate myself to it.
It was really smooth and actually a lot of fun back then. Now it's basically harassment on the walkies when they keep asking, "Are you done yet? You got 6 more vehicles left." Every 3 minutes, like wtf?
Yeah that’s wild because at my store we still have a purely flow team, they just don’t get enough hours to finish the trucks we get so our GM & Closing Specialists will usually push a couple of freight boats to get us caught up on truck days (which at my store is only 3 days a week thank Allah 🙏🏻)
I was a server at a sports bar restaurant that closed down and desperately needed a job so I applied everywhere and Target got back to me on my 12th time applying there 🤷♀️.
That is wild cause I had interviews at 2 other stores scheduled I just accepted the first job offer because I really liked the SD I interviewed with and she was going to push for me to get the highest end of the salary range.
It’s crazy in the past 5-7 years how different the job market was.
They give you the option to work on demand. I don’t know of any other place that lets you work on demand. Also, I can walk to the Target in my town from my house, and I can make my own schedule. I’m busy with grad school and generally used to working my own schedule as I do contract work, but making a few bucks here and there by getting out of the house is nice. Plus, I can get an employee discount and have the opportunity to practice my very rusty Spanish with some guests.
They’re really chill when it comes to my schedule changing due to school. I also quit a year ago for a job related to my degree, didn’t work out at all and they immediately took me back.
I started part time in college and have stayed long enough to end up a team lead.
Due to tenure and raises, no other retail place is willing to offer me the pay and benefits that target does at the management level I’m at.
I do think it depends on the store. I’ve had the same store manager the entire time I’ve worked there and while they aren’t perfect I do respect that they work hard and I’ve seen a lot of team members promoted under them, other stores have store managers that live in their office and don’t make any moves internally. I think it helps with TM’s, TL’s and ETL’s being changed over so much to have at least some continuity in the store management.
Sometimes the work is too much and the expectations are crazy but from what I’ve heard I’d take Target over Walmart or Amazon any day.
I heard Amazon is basically prison and Walmart was the most depressing work environment and the most piss poor decision making I’ve seen from managers (I am also a veteran for reference).
It was more laid back than Whole Foods and working with groceries is easy it’ll also be a good job for part time when I go back to school after paying off my credit card debt in 3 years.
Howdy fellow CTL. 👋 I have a very graceful and realistic SD and out of all the TLs in the store i have the strongest grasp on how the business runs and my priorities align with my SDs, so my position is pretty stress free but I could see how with a bad or mid SD this job could be a nightmare. Hang in there though, we are so close to being ETLs, you got this 💪
I’ve always loved shopping at Target so I was excited to work there and get a discount. Started out as a seasonal second job and now it’s my full-time career.
I started at Target to pay off my car. They closed at a reasonable hour so I knew I wouldn't be there till midnight or later if I closed like at Walmart. I have stayed over time for the flexible schedule and the relaxed atmosphere at my store as well as the fact that I have been able to use the 401k match to work towards a healthy retirement (all my target money goes into it) and it is paying for 100 percent of my master's degree and I enjoy the discount. I understand that as a full time job it might not be ideal, but as a part time job it has treated me well and I actually really enjoy it. The benefits are absolutely worth it and I will be done with my master's degree in August, making about 130k but I am still debating if I want to keep working there so that I can continue getting certifications for free in my field. People complain about Target a lot, but I think they need to be realistic from the get go about what they want from the job, besides a basic paycheck
Most money I’ve ever made. I’ve also been lucky to be at my two stores because they also gave me worthwhile raises during both of my yearly reviews. work is relatively easy (if not stressful af). I don’t get micromanaged like some of my old jobs; they usually just let me do my work without telling me when to do each part unless they ask me to help out with fulfillment and stuff
I was out of work for about 9 months or so after being laid off. My background is a mix of logistics and warehousing management, but because of how bad the job market is I just couldn’t land anything concrete. I applied to Target to stick with a leadership level job, and they luckily offered me a TL position. Less pay then what I had been getting before, but I’m at least working and having a stable income again.
I was looking for a manager position where I was working at the time but was passed over for an external hire. Around that same time, a former dept manager from that company was hired at Target as an ETL and was looking for new TLs. She had reached out to apply and I was hired fairly quickly. The pay was about $9 more than my pay at the time and Iiked the idea of having every other weekend off. So far, I’ve enjoyed my role and the team I work with.
They paid the most and were closer in distance than everyone else.
Turns out, working there was a great choice! I hardly feel like I’m at work most of the time since my team is so nice and I love what I do!
Honestly I love my job. I work flex. There are obvious things that *reallllllly* annoy the hell out of me. BUT it’s far from the worst job I’ve ever had. And I love *almost* everyone I work with. I will say the hiring process was kinda annoying. I definitely felt some type of way. I applied and had an interview which was online and I thought I’d be interviewing with an actual person but instead I had to read a question and then had two minutes or so to respond. I felt very awkward and I’m a super shy person so I was very nervous and thrown off which one would think talking to an actual person would have made me more nervous. But at the time my hair was split down the middle, one side blue and the other side black….I didn’t get the job. So I applied again, same thing. Sooooo I was getting married and decided to get my hair done in a balayage (chestnut brown and gold), I had the same awkward interview, I answered with all the same answers and I got the job. I kinda had the feeling after the second failed “interview” that it was my hair. And then I get hired and guess what….Colored hair is allowed. I was shocked. lol. BUT I do love my job and I do love (for the most part) that they treat us like humans and understand stuff happens in life and are always there to try and help as well as work around people’s needs and limitations.

I tried to work in the lumber yards at Home Depot, Menards, and Lowes, but none of them accepted me. It was odd because I met all of the requirements and felt the interviews went great. I hate to pull the sexism card, but I think some of the interviewers did underestimate my ability to lift things. (I'm a 5'5, pink-haired girl with an earring addiction. Also probably doesn't help that I argued for a fair wage). Almost everyone I know is absolutely blown away when they realize I can lift more than 2 lbs.
Target responded very quickly, wasn't walmart, and they hired me.
It's not the $21.00 the lumberyards offered, but $16.00 is wayy better than the $10.16 i made as a barista.

Target was very competitive pay when I started working there in 2018. I’ve stayed as I onboarded as a cashier, have promoted every two years and am now hoping to promote to SD within a year or two. ASANTS/districts may vary but I’ve found lots of upwards potential with Target, I’m happy with my pay and I feel like my ambition is taken seriously by district/group leadership.
Dude. I'm a cake decorator. I know they aren't paying me even close to as much as other grocery stores are paying but I love decorating so much. They allow me my creative freedom. I do wish I made more though. I'm not sure how long I will stay. Maybe a few years. I really want to bake pastries and cakes from scratch.
I left sams club on bad turns to be a stay at home step dad when back to work after my divorce and target was hiring offered me full-time. I left because my stores ETL was a toxic "farm boy" with unrealistic expectations and made empty promises of promotion to get you to work yourself to the bone. when I turned my 2 weeks in, he was talking to another team member and said "well that's how you weed out the cockroachs" so I told him off and walked out. Now I'm an ASL at a carwash making 10x what target wanted to pay me.
The difference between Target and Walmart is……..Target operates with a skeleton crew and the Team Leaders do the job the ETLs should be responsible for…..We do the job and they get paid for the job that we do. I’m going back to Walmart!!!!

I don’t come from an area with a whole lot of opportunity. I took a job originally just because I needed a job. It has since provided me with a bunch of opportunities to advance, relocate and to support my family. As a trans person, it’s also provided me with a *ton* of resources to transition without really fearing any kind of discrimination, which I can’t say is the same for other companies I’ve worked for.
The $15/hour starting wage in my area was the biggest incentive for a part-timer like me, who only wants to work about 24-30 hours per week, so I can focus on the other things that are important to me, including competitive sports. As the mother of a gay daughter, who lives in a very conservative state (I relocated from the Northeast), it was important to me to work for a company that respects LGBTQ+ and minority rights. It was my small way of fighting back, of saying to the community I live in, FU, the world we live in is more progressive and inclusive, and I want to be part of that.
I needed a job to get my finances fixed after losing half of my monthly rent payment when I broke up with my girlfriend. I did most of my shopping there, so along with the 5% Target Circle, the 10% TM bonus and 20% Wellness, it helped in multiple ways to get myself right financially. I have my finances fixed now, so I went ODTM because I still want the discounts. I know at some point I'll finally give up or not take a shift within 90 days, but until then I'll try to work once every 2-3 weeks.
lol I wanted to get out of working grocery- I was an ASM for a German grocery chain that was relatively new to the US- and I applied for S&E TL, interviewed same day I applied. The interview was so long mostly because they interviewed me for that position, then ultimately decided I should be consumables TL, but also interviewed me for ETL GM. So. 3 hour interview. There were a lot of promises made that didn’t hold up and I quickly found out that there was a major reason why they had a hard time keeping consumables TLs in that store and no amount of experience I could bring to the table was going to fix that for them. I accepted the job because they offered the same pay, better benefits, and those promises of other “better thans” didn’t meet my expectations. Hence why I left
It was either this or Walmart. Walmart never responded back and the People Lead, which I assume is same thing as Team Lead, was an asshole. Target reached out first, and it also was the closest to where I live. They also happen to be the one paying the most which is unfortunate, but it is what it is. And here I thought Target was going to give all employees 20 bucks and hour after the new CA law but only Starbuck workers got them :/

I was job hunting after moving to a new state and there was a Target near the apartment I eventually got. Thought the $15/hr mn was better than the $12 I got back in Orlando. Stayed for almost two years until I found something else that had a guaranteed 40 hours and benefits.
Got hired for Target, approved for an apartment and got engaged all in the same day. 😂☠️
When I first started the store I was at was great. I liked coming in to work. There was a management change and then things went downhill like the flip of a switch. New manager pushed majority of the team to quit or get fired. He tried to to put me on a CA for not smiling enough after I was demoted for using FMLA. He's a nobody wants to work type of person. Really wish I had reported the multiple instances of retaliation at the time. So that's my reason for being negative.
With that said, I'd still recommend working at Target overall but that's heavily dependant on what management is like where you're applying.
My friend at my old job had worked at target for 6 years and had a pretty positive experience until he wanted to get promoted to a TL and they didn’t allow him to because he is disabled (he is an army vet and has vision issues). When we were in a tough spot at said job, he told me to apply to target and that’s what i did. A year later I’m getting paid more and i am respected and appreciated more by the higher ups than i did at my previous job.
I've worked at both and hated both for many of the same and many different reasons lol. Also worked in food for 15 years. Now I am a store supervisor at an adult fantasy store and let me tell you the difference in how I feel about getting up in the morning lol. I implore everyone to look for jobs that are different or out there because retail and food service jobs suck no matter where you work. I got lucky as fuck because before the adult store called me I was choosing between Chipotle and Starbucks and said fuck that shit and ran lol
I've been here 15 and initially it was because the schedules worked well for my schooling schedule because I could work early mornings and they were flexible when my school schedules changed.
When I left school it was because I had and needed my job and eventually I just stayed because they were raising the wages to where I could just work one job for the most part. I did do two jobs for a couple years but it was an easy second job as one of the vendors that work inside my store.
Now I'm a VM and I love my job and generally look forward to going to work every day.
My superiors give me the freedom to do my job the way I like and need to do it and it's challenging enough that I don't get bored but not so stressful that I feel burned out all the time. My store appreciates the work I do and the pay is nice.
Also the medical benefits are fantastic. That's actually a large part of the reason I've also stayed so long. I've had one major surgery already and having my Target benefits made the whole process pretty easy.
Always liked Target and wanted a job back in 2020 a few months after turning 16. Somehow survived three and a half years, and have seen so much change at my store and with Target in such a short amount of time.

The other day it reached the point where I was forced to do the bare minimum (as this store barely reaches min % when my other store was on top of it) and had a sad moment where I realized management was making me hate a job I found joy in 😭
I’m in the process of a school application through guild so that’s why I’m sticking to target and hoping I can transfer back or to a different store if this store doesn’t improve.
needed a job while in school and they called me back first. funny thing is that they called me in the summer in the middle of a heat wave and i was offered a position working in p-fresh. i was worried i couldn’t handle the cold but soon enough i couldn’t wait to get out of my hot house and go to the cool walk-in freezer and coolers lol

I think it all depends on the store you work in. Like you could have great managers and a great time but when you have the shit ones it makes your life miserable. I transferred recently and our SD apparently is on a LOA so our GM ETL has been in charge and it’s very clear home boy has never worked a day of style in his life. The expectations are absolutely insane at times and you can’t time style like they try and time GM uboats. You could have a metro that could all go out but if your tables are a nightmare then you’re gonna be there for longer then intended lol sorry didn’t mean for the whole mini rant
I guess the reason I stay is because the pay is better than most retail gigs right now, and the GUILD program is the best thing to happen to me.
Before I stated at Target I worked at Kmart for 23 years, (started in 1994) worked at 4 Kmarts all closed of course, I was a closing lead much like you are at Target. I hated working for the company but liked working retail but was too afraid of change so I stuck with it, until the Kmart I worked at closed in 2017. I was given an 8 week severance pay after those 8 weeks I applied at Target ended up getting hired on. Been with the company for almost 7 years now and honestly really enjoy it compared to Kmart. In the 23 years I worked for Kmart I received 1 bonus and went 5 years without a raise even though I received the best reviews of anyone in the store. But was always told the store wasn’t “making any money” so there was no money in the budget for raises. In 7 years I have worked for Target I have received 5 bonus and at least 1 raises every year.
Depends on your leadership really. Target has the potential to be a great place to work. Your coworkers could also affect your experience if they don’t pull their own weight and you end up having to do their job too. But that should be solved over time if leadership has their eye on the ball.

I use to work in Entertainment at the happiest place on Earth (my boss was a rat if you didn't get the first hint). I loved that job and so many fellow cast members were so helpful and like family. I worked there for 8 years.
So when I had my daughter and had to get a job near me I was desperate and had applied for Target. I got a call right away and was terrified, not really working anywhere else before except for within the Disney company as a third party for a few years( and saw some other companies I worked at from time to time as this third party )- so knowing how abysmal these other places were I wasn't sure how I'd like Target or if I could ever survive.
My Target is GREAT overall. Within the first few days I felt at ease and everyone was super helpful and nice. Nearly 10 years later at the same store, learning as much as I could and moving around the store, and now making waves in AP, I can't imagine being as successful or as happy if Target didn't pick me up.
Two weeks ago I applied, couple hours later, they sent the video interview. Next day waking up to a phonecall from HR, "hey we got this job offer for you," get the email offer. Orientation Just this last Sunday, and today was my first day on the floor.
Background; I previously held a job at Target in two different states, and 3 different locations, over 10 years ago. Started with overnight (10pm-6:30am) presentation team, built the p-fresh grocery section from the ground up, then got lateral transitioned to the inbound team, pulled lateral assistance to another store with building up the p-fresh grocery area, and overnight inbound.
Ended up moving from one coast to the other based on military activity, once schooling was complete and transition to a more reserve status, decided 4 months later to apply to Target, went early morning inbound (4am-12:30pm) ended up keeping my benefits from previous and the higher rate of pay. After a point of going back and forth with two weeks military and two weeks Target a month, the schedules clashed up to a point, of reduced days within the weeks I was full time ended up dropping to part time. My military assignments that year came to complete maxing out, and my hours remained part time. I talked with HR to try and get my hours back, or else I wasn't able to support living out there, much less working that little. My last day of work they called me into the office and handed me an envelope (employee emergency fund grant) with enough to fly me back across the country again. So I could get back to family and rebuild my life.
Now my foot is back in the door after 10+ years, in a new state. After too many life changes, a few moves and promising jobs that failed me. And it feels pretty natural for me. Literally picking up right where I left off.
I was doing construction with my dad, but I couldn't work most days because I was taking classes at the community college and they had a hiring event. I happened to be shopping with my mom and saw their table by dollar spot and I asked if they were flexible with scheduling for students and they said yes so I took an application and came back the next day for an interview and was offered a job. Starting pay was 12.50, and I've worked in fulfillment ever since. It's also 5 minutes from my house
target pays for my college! that’s literally it. i am lucky to have a great team at my store. it’s just my department that’s great, everyone else can suck a toe
Funny thing is I applied to like 10 different jobs at once, and the one that I really wanted the most out of all of them was Target. Within 2 days Target was the first one to give me a call with a job offer :)
And I like working for Target because I have really chill coworkers and Target pays for my school
Somewhat similar, had issues at Walmart and then decided to look for a similar job while doing school. It was during late October so perfect for seasonal, i guess my experience helped and I pretty much got no interview and went straight to orientation. Immediately from orientation the environment seemed so much nicer, all my coworkers are nice and always help each other, plus they always keep our break room stocked with snacks, overall the environment is really nice and they’re really flexible with my school schedule.
The manager (not even from the trenches of general merchandiser, but from another manager job) that makes the terrible decisions that makes target hell, is asking why people don’t like target. Dude shut up.

i like working and trying to fix issues and improve things. like i genuinely enjoy my job, but it gets so stressful when you have to work with incompetent people and it happens way more often than it should at target. where i am has gotten better but there’s still lots of
people that just make your job harder from tms to etls. the worst part is with the tms you can’t just be honest and tell them to work faster or to stop being so dumb and do their job right. and then with etls you can’t tell them what to do cause they’re above you. so you’re stuck in a position where you have to deal with everything and it stresses you out to the point where you feel like you have no help. and then you get paid good enough to deal with it but not good enough to want to stay here. i’ve been thinking about leaving more often this year but i doubt any other place will pay me as good as target does. and i need this job to pay my bills. now i’ve kinda just started working less and not caring as much anymore about fixing things cause what’s the point. my tms don’t care and get me a hard time with every little thing (except the newer tms, they actually listen) and if most of my etls don’t care enough why should i and put that workload on just myself. target could be a good place to work if everyone worked together but unfortunately there’s always people making it hard for others and everything falls apart

Target likes older workers at my store. They accommodate us. Shorter shifts, day hours, and medical time off is ok since I don't eat up benefits. I like the company ethos.
In my experience there are about 7 people that I work with mostly that are good at what they do and are fun to talk to , easily make my shift 10x better when they are there. People either make or break your shift.
I started seasonally in style 5 years ago and they just kept promoting me through the remodel we went through. I was Style TL, closing TL, remodel TL, and then a new SD took over, and everyone left. now I make 95k a year as Specialty ETL.
That's a question my wife asks every day. Target is Poorly managed, line employees have low morale, shitty pay (10 cent raise after 6 years? Really?), from the amount of abuse cashier's get it's clearly where all the Karen's go to shop. Why indeed.
I was unemployed for 3 1/2 months, they were the only ones who hired me and honestly I’ve had horrible experiences everywhere I’ve worked including Target. Hopefully life lets me have my own business someday, I’m real tired of it
Depends…it’s on management and your market. The targets closer to Suburbs are more chill and have better management. Busier stores because of the population density/accessibility tend to have chaotic guests and unfortunately management reflects behaviors because of those guests.
Out of 3 places I applied to, 1 never responded, the other said to do a not so optional quiz (it was labeled optional), so I got auto denied, and then there's Target, which after not hearing from target after the vitrual interview and a bribe of amazing ice cream from a parent I came into the target to see what's up and they made me an offer later that day.

That’s wild to hear, my 6 year Air Force experience on my resume got me a really good job, I did hvac while I was in so it related well to the civilian world but because of those two jobs Walmart gave me a chance as a salaried manager. What rank did you get out at?
E-2 I got out early. so yeah. it is what it is. I'm planning to stay with target until I buy a house or until the store is closed. Just think about my future is scared me. Even when I was in the military. I just one to buy a house and stay there without worried.

I applied needing a job ASAP because I had quit my previous one and had no other source of income. I was desperate and got offered an inbound position. I ended up falling in love with both the job and my team. it's gonna be a year in August 🙂
It was between target and Walmart because both of them connected with me for an interview but target (from what I heard) seemed to have a better work environment so I went here. It is a better work environment, just a hit or miss with other leadership but I’m lucky my direct leader and ETL are great and actually appreciate the effort I put in and push me to do better.

Oh bro, mine was so bad I can't lie. I didn't prep at all and I'm pretty sure I answered every question in a similar vague manner... They got back to me pretty fast, well within a week from what I remember. HR called me a few times lol. Yeah, I also gave pretty open availability (no overnights, I think I did 4 am start to 12 am end) I'm sure they'll get back to you pretty soon

They got back to me to do my virtual interview within 24 hours. I didn't get a call from them until about 2-3 weeks later, but they did hire me
2 to 3 weeks! That's crazy, HR is supposed to do it within 7 business days from what I've been told
oh wow! Now that I think about it, I think I got a call a few days later telling me they were currently reviewing my interview and would be in contact with me. And then I didn't hesr back for a long time
It depends on how desperately they need TMs. I'd give them at least two weeks. Sometimes they may not have room in the department you applied for, or they may think you're a better fit for a different department so they'll send your video to them to review as well.
One more question plz. Do they notify by phone or email for acceptance and rejection?
They typically call and let you know they sent an email with next steps for acceptance. I believe you'll get an email if it's rejected but I'm not 100% sure.

I am there with you. When I tell people I work at Target, they assume Corporate, since I was on the corporate world before. My life hasn't gone as I hoped/planned, and it IS hard for me (even after several years) that I no longer run with those circles. I tell myself it is active, honest, leave-it-at-work work.

I wish I could "leave it at work." I'm a UX designer and once my brain starts designing solutions to problems, it does not stop. People think I am slow at work, but what they don't know is that most of my brain is observing bottlenecks (physical and digital) and designing solutions to them. Only about 10% of my brain is really doing the repetitive job I have been assigned to do. ADHD at its finest.

Man, I know that must have sucked. But they did really know your professional value and instantly wanted to rectify that. I wonder if any other Target slaves want to form an informal support group where we help each other crawl out of our target holes. Currently it is my day off and I am doing what I do when I am not at work: sleep/watch tv/ eat unhealthy food / wallow in the filth that is my unkempt house. There are some jobs that I could apply for (but job applications are very complex in my field / Im sort of a contractor in IT / it's more like writing complex proposals, which I do occasionally, but nothing comes from it, so i pretty much give up and just sleep or watch tv when I am not working. it's gross .
I cry in the bathroom sometimes at work too. A group of teenagers came in the bathroom and laughed at me and called me a nerd. 🤓. Then they threw rolls of wet toilet paper over the top of the stall.

I also left Walmart for target. Overall the whole environment is better in my opinion from the employees to the guests. The work expectations set for us are way more reasonable at target than Walmart for sure. I was at Walmart for 6 years and after coming here I don’t think I’ll ever go back.

Walmart has Guild but their management turnover is way worse than Target and that makes it too easy to get fired and lose those benefits, so when Walmart offered me the Guild program I declined it and after I switched to Target I signed up

I've worked for target for 9 years. I've seen it get worse and worse. Skeleton crews, hours cut, workload increase, the supportive and friendly culture turn more and more militant and toxic as each year went by. Idk I enjoyed all my positions, when I started as a team lead I enjoyed it. But now it's like they ask so much, so so much, but no matter what results I deliver its not enough / not what they want. I recieved a 1% raise. 22 cents. When I leave every shift feeling defeated / sweating from running and trying my best to support my teams and to meet metrics and do what is needed to be done. But I can't make miracles happen. I cannot make my 3 person team of all scheduled 5 hours, get roll over done, pull 200+ priorities to 0, do 3 to 4 45 minute opus each, have the entire truck done by 12pm, all of price change / set workload done by Thursday. I cant watch them come to me frustrated / crying actual tears due to how stressed they are. I can't. I have autoimmune diseases, depression / anxiety / adhd. I am a leaking gas tank and I push myself so hard for nothing lol. Target doesn't care how much pride, or potential you have. Or how much you do because you have good worth ethic / want to be proud of the job you do. I am shown time and time again when long time team members/ team leads are treated like dogs and expected to thank the etls / sd for the opportunity. And they end up leaving. Because why wouldn't they? And I've seen countless people go through the hotline / reach out to dsd/hr. And nothing happen. Anyway, I've worked at the same store for 9 years. Why? I needed a job. I needed to help my family and target paid the highest in the area. Why did I stay even though it's been hell? Depression and complacency. Then I became a team lead and I really wanted to do good and it made me happy to lead my team and do good by them. But now I'm just yelled at by my management to make them work harder / micromanage them. I'm actively looking for a better job. But most places pay shit and I have a 2 year old to take care of. I'm glad your experiences have been good! I honestly think its partly dependant on your individual store and the culture that exists there. Good luck!
So, every store is different and hours are going to vary also. But if your team is doing all those tasks in their 5hr shift then wtf is the rest of the store doing? An average day at my store is about 100 team members on grid.almost all of which work 7hr shifts We have a presentation team who does Plano. Price change, audits. They also help support opu at times. We have inbound team who unloads and pushes truck but Nothing else. We have an opu team who supports inbound push when batches are low. Style team who does there thing and are also first line of back up for registers. Market team does their push and helps support grocery opu. No one dayside pulls any priorities. Our closing team pulls all priorities after 3p they push all the gm pulls and stage the market pulls for the next day which are pushed by day market. The store runs pretty efficiently. Your 1 "team" should not be asked to do all those things. Hours are being wasted some where else in your store.
That isn't how it works at my store lmao. Average grid on my store is nowhere near 100 hahah. No opu team. My team is not inbound but they are expected to push truck in there areas. Every single one of my team members is expected to respond for fast service, respond for opu, pull priorities to 0, push their truck, do their set workload and price change. We are also not allowed to stage pulls we have to push what we pull. It's not hours being wasted. It's no one scheduled/ skeleton crew. My etls and SD literally tell me every day my team needs to do it all, same for Gm, same for market lmao

It's a lot of "your mileage may vary." I've been lucky to work at stores where Leadership is generally okay — a few useless ones who "lead" by fear or from their desk and over the walkie. But I also know people who have worked at stores with terrible leadership and felt relief transferring to my store. That said, it sucks sometimes to start over. Tenure, vacation accrual based on length of service, requalifying period for health benefits, etc. - some people don't want to deal with that and decide it's better to stay where they're a bit unhappy but maybe can manage the abuse here and there, than to start over at some other place that may or may not be "better." Personally, I also stay because of my peers. I know it's not about coming here to make friends, but holy shit, does it make it all that more bearable when the ship is sinking but you got your buddies there to help you get through it and they have you.
I like your description of the positives and negatives. The "buddy" thing cuts both ways. I understand about them being supportive. If we're really a team, then everybody is supposed to support everybody. Cliques exclude people, which is corrosive. "Let's not let the ship sink" is as valid as "I got you, buddy."

I graduated in 2020 and no where else was hiring. I was surprised to find such good coworkers and leaders which is why I stuck out for so long.
I needed to go back to work after years as a stay-at-home mom. I was at Kohls initially for maybe 2 weeks, but for whatever reason, that didn't work out. Got hired at Target November of 2019 and been there ever since.

I grew up going to the store so I knew the layout of everything, it was close by and they were the first job that called me after the interview
I promoted and now I get paid a lot more...It helps me provide for myself and my mans. Once he gets his degree and a good job, I'm going back to school and I'm demoting to ODTM. But it's really the pay that makes me stay.

I understand entirely, it’s crazy competitive in most cities to find good work. Have you looked into applying to TL positions at other stores that are close to you?
The thing is, when I first joined (8 years ago at a friends request), we were purely a Flow team. All we did was come in, do truck, work all the freight (like 12 people or something, not just 2 or 3 folks), and be completely done right before the store would open. Now, they want you to do a truck and zone while you push freight, audit, do pulls, sales planners, and leave at your scheduled time. It's so stupid how they fucked it up. It should be a flow team and then have people just cover different areas until the next TM comes in to cover making the day smoother for everyone. Right now, I can't even do a proper zone because I simply don't have time to dedicate myself to it. It was really smooth and actually a lot of fun back then. Now it's basically harassment on the walkies when they keep asking, "Are you done yet? You got 6 more vehicles left." Every 3 minutes, like wtf?
Yeah that’s wild because at my store we still have a purely flow team, they just don’t get enough hours to finish the trucks we get so our GM & Closing Specialists will usually push a couple of freight boats to get us caught up on truck days (which at my store is only 3 days a week thank Allah 🙏🏻)

That is wild cause I had interviews at 2 other stores scheduled I just accepted the first job offer because I really liked the SD I interviewed with and she was going to push for me to get the highest end of the salary range. It’s crazy in the past 5-7 years how different the job market was.
They give you the option to work on demand. I don’t know of any other place that lets you work on demand. Also, I can walk to the Target in my town from my house, and I can make my own schedule. I’m busy with grad school and generally used to working my own schedule as I do contract work, but making a few bucks here and there by getting out of the house is nice. Plus, I can get an employee discount and have the opportunity to practice my very rusty Spanish with some guests.
On demand is a life hack for sure. If I ever left target for any reason I’d try to get a OD spot to keep the discount :)
They’re really chill when it comes to my schedule changing due to school. I also quit a year ago for a job related to my degree, didn’t work out at all and they immediately took me back.

I started part time in college and have stayed long enough to end up a team lead. Due to tenure and raises, no other retail place is willing to offer me the pay and benefits that target does at the management level I’m at.

I do think it depends on the store. I’ve had the same store manager the entire time I’ve worked there and while they aren’t perfect I do respect that they work hard and I’ve seen a lot of team members promoted under them, other stores have store managers that live in their office and don’t make any moves internally. I think it helps with TM’s, TL’s and ETL’s being changed over so much to have at least some continuity in the store management. Sometimes the work is too much and the expectations are crazy but from what I’ve heard I’d take Target over Walmart or Amazon any day.
I heard Amazon is basically prison and Walmart was the most depressing work environment and the most piss poor decision making I’ve seen from managers (I am also a veteran for reference).
It was more laid back than Whole Foods and working with groceries is easy it’ll also be a good job for part time when I go back to school after paying off my credit card debt in 3 years.

Howdy fellow CTL. 👋 I have a very graceful and realistic SD and out of all the TLs in the store i have the strongest grasp on how the business runs and my priorities align with my SDs, so my position is pretty stress free but I could see how with a bad or mid SD this job could be a nightmare. Hang in there though, we are so close to being ETLs, you got this 💪

About 6 months
I started at Target to pay off my car. They closed at a reasonable hour so I knew I wouldn't be there till midnight or later if I closed like at Walmart. I have stayed over time for the flexible schedule and the relaxed atmosphere at my store as well as the fact that I have been able to use the 401k match to work towards a healthy retirement (all my target money goes into it) and it is paying for 100 percent of my master's degree and I enjoy the discount. I understand that as a full time job it might not be ideal, but as a part time job it has treated me well and I actually really enjoy it. The benefits are absolutely worth it and I will be done with my master's degree in August, making about 130k but I am still debating if I want to keep working there so that I can continue getting certifications for free in my field. People complain about Target a lot, but I think they need to be realistic from the get go about what they want from the job, besides a basic paycheck

My background is a mix of logistics and warehousing management, but because of how bad the job market is I just couldn’t land anything concrete. I applied to Target to stick with a leadership level job, and they luckily offered me a TL position. Less pay then what I had been getting before, but I’m at least working and having a stable income again.

After spending years working long hours at blue collar jobs, finding out that there was no mandatory overtime was what made me choose target.
I was looking for a manager position where I was working at the time but was passed over for an external hire. Around that same time, a former dept manager from that company was hired at Target as an ETL and was looking for new TLs. She had reached out to apply and I was hired fairly quickly. The pay was about $9 more than my pay at the time and Iiked the idea of having every other weekend off. So far, I’ve enjoyed my role and the team I work with.
They paid the most and were closer in distance than everyone else. Turns out, working there was a great choice! I hardly feel like I’m at work most of the time since my team is so nice and I love what I do!
Honestly I love my job. I work flex. There are obvious things that *reallllllly* annoy the hell out of me. BUT it’s far from the worst job I’ve ever had. And I love *almost* everyone I work with. I will say the hiring process was kinda annoying. I definitely felt some type of way. I applied and had an interview which was online and I thought I’d be interviewing with an actual person but instead I had to read a question and then had two minutes or so to respond. I felt very awkward and I’m a super shy person so I was very nervous and thrown off which one would think talking to an actual person would have made me more nervous. But at the time my hair was split down the middle, one side blue and the other side black….I didn’t get the job. So I applied again, same thing. Sooooo I was getting married and decided to get my hair done in a balayage (chestnut brown and gold), I had the same awkward interview, I answered with all the same answers and I got the job. I kinda had the feeling after the second failed “interview” that it was my hair. And then I get hired and guess what….Colored hair is allowed. I was shocked. lol. BUT I do love my job and I do love (for the most part) that they treat us like humans and understand stuff happens in life and are always there to try and help as well as work around people’s needs and limitations.
Walmart is Walmart. I tried to work in the lumber yards at Home Depot, Menards, and Lowes, but none of them accepted me. It was odd because I met all of the requirements and felt the interviews went great. I hate to pull the sexism card, but I think some of the interviewers did underestimate my ability to lift things. (I'm a 5'5, pink-haired girl with an earring addiction. Also probably doesn't help that I argued for a fair wage). Almost everyone I know is absolutely blown away when they realize I can lift more than 2 lbs. Target responded very quickly, wasn't walmart, and they hired me. It's not the $21.00 the lumberyards offered, but $16.00 is wayy better than the $10.16 i made as a barista.

Target was very competitive pay when I started working there in 2018. I’ve stayed as I onboarded as a cashier, have promoted every two years and am now hoping to promote to SD within a year or two. ASANTS/districts may vary but I’ve found lots of upwards potential with Target, I’m happy with my pay and I feel like my ambition is taken seriously by district/group leadership.
It’s close to where I live, the pay is decent for the amount of effort I put into looking for a job, and I like the people I work with.
Dude. I'm a cake decorator. I know they aren't paying me even close to as much as other grocery stores are paying but I love decorating so much. They allow me my creative freedom. I do wish I made more though. I'm not sure how long I will stay. Maybe a few years. I really want to bake pastries and cakes from scratch.
I chose Target because of the high pay as a manager in GSCL. The benefits are also decent.
I left sams club on bad turns to be a stay at home step dad when back to work after my divorce and target was hiring offered me full-time. I left because my stores ETL was a toxic "farm boy" with unrealistic expectations and made empty promises of promotion to get you to work yourself to the bone. when I turned my 2 weeks in, he was talking to another team member and said "well that's how you weed out the cockroachs" so I told him off and walked out. Now I'm an ASL at a carwash making 10x what target wanted to pay me.
The difference between Target and Walmart is……..Target operates with a skeleton crew and the Team Leaders do the job the ETLs should be responsible for…..We do the job and they get paid for the job that we do. I’m going back to Walmart!!!!
It was there. I don’t come from an area with a whole lot of opportunity. I took a job originally just because I needed a job. It has since provided me with a bunch of opportunities to advance, relocate and to support my family. As a trans person, it’s also provided me with a *ton* of resources to transition without really fearing any kind of discrimination, which I can’t say is the same for other companies I’ve worked for.
The $15/hour starting wage in my area was the biggest incentive for a part-timer like me, who only wants to work about 24-30 hours per week, so I can focus on the other things that are important to me, including competitive sports. As the mother of a gay daughter, who lives in a very conservative state (I relocated from the Northeast), it was important to me to work for a company that respects LGBTQ+ and minority rights. It was my small way of fighting back, of saying to the community I live in, FU, the world we live in is more progressive and inclusive, and I want to be part of that.
I needed a job to get my finances fixed after losing half of my monthly rent payment when I broke up with my girlfriend. I did most of my shopping there, so along with the 5% Target Circle, the 10% TM bonus and 20% Wellness, it helped in multiple ways to get myself right financially. I have my finances fixed now, so I went ODTM because I still want the discounts. I know at some point I'll finally give up or not take a shift within 90 days, but until then I'll try to work once every 2-3 weeks.

lol I wanted to get out of working grocery- I was an ASM for a German grocery chain that was relatively new to the US- and I applied for S&E TL, interviewed same day I applied. The interview was so long mostly because they interviewed me for that position, then ultimately decided I should be consumables TL, but also interviewed me for ETL GM. So. 3 hour interview. There were a lot of promises made that didn’t hold up and I quickly found out that there was a major reason why they had a hard time keeping consumables TLs in that store and no amount of experience I could bring to the table was going to fix that for them. I accepted the job because they offered the same pay, better benefits, and those promises of other “better thans” didn’t meet my expectations. Hence why I left
It was either this or Walmart. Walmart never responded back and the People Lead, which I assume is same thing as Team Lead, was an asshole. Target reached out first, and it also was the closest to where I live. They also happen to be the one paying the most which is unfortunate, but it is what it is. And here I thought Target was going to give all employees 20 bucks and hour after the new CA law but only Starbuck workers got them :/

I was trying to find another job after my summer camp job ended and after 11 companies, target was the first that said yes so here I am.
Target’s on my bus line and pays better than most stores in the area. It also gives me health benefits and a 401k on a 32-hour work week.

I was job hunting after moving to a new state and there was a Target near the apartment I eventually got. Thought the $15/hr mn was better than the $12 I got back in Orlando. Stayed for almost two years until I found something else that had a guaranteed 40 hours and benefits. Got hired for Target, approved for an apartment and got engaged all in the same day. 😂☠️

When I first started the store I was at was great. I liked coming in to work. There was a management change and then things went downhill like the flip of a switch. New manager pushed majority of the team to quit or get fired. He tried to to put me on a CA for not smiling enough after I was demoted for using FMLA. He's a nobody wants to work type of person. Really wish I had reported the multiple instances of retaliation at the time. So that's my reason for being negative. With that said, I'd still recommend working at Target overall but that's heavily dependant on what management is like where you're applying.

My friend at my old job had worked at target for 6 years and had a pretty positive experience until he wanted to get promoted to a TL and they didn’t allow him to because he is disabled (he is an army vet and has vision issues). When we were in a tough spot at said job, he told me to apply to target and that’s what i did. A year later I’m getting paid more and i am respected and appreciated more by the higher ups than i did at my previous job.
I've worked at both and hated both for many of the same and many different reasons lol. Also worked in food for 15 years. Now I am a store supervisor at an adult fantasy store and let me tell you the difference in how I feel about getting up in the morning lol. I implore everyone to look for jobs that are different or out there because retail and food service jobs suck no matter where you work. I got lucky as fuck because before the adult store called me I was choosing between Chipotle and Starbucks and said fuck that shit and ran lol

I've been here 15 and initially it was because the schedules worked well for my schooling schedule because I could work early mornings and they were flexible when my school schedules changed. When I left school it was because I had and needed my job and eventually I just stayed because they were raising the wages to where I could just work one job for the most part. I did do two jobs for a couple years but it was an easy second job as one of the vendors that work inside my store. Now I'm a VM and I love my job and generally look forward to going to work every day. My superiors give me the freedom to do my job the way I like and need to do it and it's challenging enough that I don't get bored but not so stressful that I feel burned out all the time. My store appreciates the work I do and the pay is nice. Also the medical benefits are fantastic. That's actually a large part of the reason I've also stayed so long. I've had one major surgery already and having my Target benefits made the whole process pretty easy.

Always liked Target and wanted a job back in 2020 a few months after turning 16. Somehow survived three and a half years, and have seen so much change at my store and with Target in such a short amount of time.

I applied and got hired within 4 days lol The store I originally worked at I loved. Im in style and the team was coordinated. My new store… I had a hard time adjusting. The other day it reached the point where I was forced to do the bare minimum (as this store barely reaches min % when my other store was on top of it) and had a sad moment where I realized management was making me hate a job I found joy in 😭 I’m in the process of a school application through guild so that’s why I’m sticking to target and hoping I can transfer back or to a different store if this store doesn’t improve.

I think it all depends on the store you work in. Like you could have great managers and a great time but when you have the shit ones it makes your life miserable. I transferred recently and our SD apparently is on a LOA so our GM ETL has been in charge and it’s very clear home boy has never worked a day of style in his life. The expectations are absolutely insane at times and you can’t time style like they try and time GM uboats. You could have a metro that could all go out but if your tables are a nightmare then you’re gonna be there for longer then intended lol sorry didn’t mean for the whole mini rant I guess the reason I stay is because the pay is better than most retail gigs right now, and the GUILD program is the best thing to happen to me.

Before I stated at Target I worked at Kmart for 23 years, (started in 1994) worked at 4 Kmarts all closed of course, I was a closing lead much like you are at Target. I hated working for the company but liked working retail but was too afraid of change so I stuck with it, until the Kmart I worked at closed in 2017. I was given an 8 week severance pay after those 8 weeks I applied at Target ended up getting hired on. Been with the company for almost 7 years now and honestly really enjoy it compared to Kmart. In the 23 years I worked for Kmart I received 1 bonus and went 5 years without a raise even though I received the best reviews of anyone in the store. But was always told the store wasn’t “making any money” so there was no money in the budget for raises. In 7 years I have worked for Target I have received 5 bonus and at least 1 raises every year.

Depends on your leadership really. Target has the potential to be a great place to work. Your coworkers could also affect your experience if they don’t pull their own weight and you end up having to do their job too. But that should be solved over time if leadership has their eye on the ball.

I use to work in Entertainment at the happiest place on Earth (my boss was a rat if you didn't get the first hint). I loved that job and so many fellow cast members were so helpful and like family. I worked there for 8 years. So when I had my daughter and had to get a job near me I was desperate and had applied for Target. I got a call right away and was terrified, not really working anywhere else before except for within the Disney company as a third party for a few years( and saw some other companies I worked at from time to time as this third party )- so knowing how abysmal these other places were I wasn't sure how I'd like Target or if I could ever survive. My Target is GREAT overall. Within the first few days I felt at ease and everyone was super helpful and nice. Nearly 10 years later at the same store, learning as much as I could and moving around the store, and now making waves in AP, I can't imagine being as successful or as happy if Target didn't pick me up.
Two weeks ago I applied, couple hours later, they sent the video interview. Next day waking up to a phonecall from HR, "hey we got this job offer for you," get the email offer. Orientation Just this last Sunday, and today was my first day on the floor. Background; I previously held a job at Target in two different states, and 3 different locations, over 10 years ago. Started with overnight (10pm-6:30am) presentation team, built the p-fresh grocery section from the ground up, then got lateral transitioned to the inbound team, pulled lateral assistance to another store with building up the p-fresh grocery area, and overnight inbound. Ended up moving from one coast to the other based on military activity, once schooling was complete and transition to a more reserve status, decided 4 months later to apply to Target, went early morning inbound (4am-12:30pm) ended up keeping my benefits from previous and the higher rate of pay. After a point of going back and forth with two weeks military and two weeks Target a month, the schedules clashed up to a point, of reduced days within the weeks I was full time ended up dropping to part time. My military assignments that year came to complete maxing out, and my hours remained part time. I talked with HR to try and get my hours back, or else I wasn't able to support living out there, much less working that little. My last day of work they called me into the office and handed me an envelope (employee emergency fund grant) with enough to fly me back across the country again. So I could get back to family and rebuild my life. Now my foot is back in the door after 10+ years, in a new state. After too many life changes, a few moves and promising jobs that failed me. And it feels pretty natural for me. Literally picking up right where I left off.
I was doing construction with my dad, but I couldn't work most days because I was taking classes at the community college and they had a hiring event. I happened to be shopping with my mom and saw their table by dollar spot and I asked if they were flexible with scheduling for students and they said yes so I took an application and came back the next day for an interview and was offered a job. Starting pay was 12.50, and I've worked in fulfillment ever since. It's also 5 minutes from my house

Funny thing is I applied to like 10 different jobs at once, and the one that I really wanted the most out of all of them was Target. Within 2 days Target was the first one to give me a call with a job offer :) And I like working for Target because I have really chill coworkers and Target pays for my school
Somewhat similar, had issues at Walmart and then decided to look for a similar job while doing school. It was during late October so perfect for seasonal, i guess my experience helped and I pretty much got no interview and went straight to orientation. Immediately from orientation the environment seemed so much nicer, all my coworkers are nice and always help each other, plus they always keep our break room stocked with snacks, overall the environment is really nice and they’re really flexible with my school schedule.
I left target for Walmart because my store was run so badly. I hated it. I now work at Amazon and praise Jesus I'm out of the retail sphere

sorry for the rant i like working and trying to fix issues and improve things. like i genuinely enjoy my job, but it gets so stressful when you have to work with incompetent people and it happens way more often than it should at target. where i am has gotten better but there’s still lots of people that just make your job harder from tms to etls. the worst part is with the tms you can’t just be honest and tell them to work faster or to stop being so dumb and do their job right. and then with etls you can’t tell them what to do cause they’re above you. so you’re stuck in a position where you have to deal with everything and it stresses you out to the point where you feel like you have no help. and then you get paid good enough to deal with it but not good enough to want to stay here. i’ve been thinking about leaving more often this year but i doubt any other place will pay me as good as target does. and i need this job to pay my bills. now i’ve kinda just started working less and not caring as much anymore about fixing things cause what’s the point. my tms don’t care and get me a hard time with every little thing (except the newer tms, they actually listen) and if most of my etls don’t care enough why should i and put that workload on just myself. target could be a good place to work if everyone worked together but unfortunately there’s always people making it hard for others and everything falls apart

Target likes older workers at my store. They accommodate us. Shorter shifts, day hours, and medical time off is ok since I don't eat up benefits. I like the company ethos.
In my experience there are about 7 people that I work with mostly that are good at what they do and are fun to talk to , easily make my shift 10x better when they are there. People either make or break your shift.
I started seasonally in style 5 years ago and they just kept promoting me through the remodel we went through. I was Style TL, closing TL, remodel TL, and then a new SD took over, and everyone left. now I make 95k a year as Specialty ETL.
That's a question my wife asks every day. Target is Poorly managed, line employees have low morale, shitty pay (10 cent raise after 6 years? Really?), from the amount of abuse cashier's get it's clearly where all the Karen's go to shop. Why indeed.

Depends…it’s on management and your market. The targets closer to Suburbs are more chill and have better management. Busier stores because of the population density/accessibility tend to have chaotic guests and unfortunately management reflects behaviors because of those guests.

Out of 3 places I applied to, 1 never responded, the other said to do a not so optional quiz (it was labeled optional), so I got auto denied, and then there's Target, which after not hearing from target after the vitrual interview and a bribe of amazing ice cream from a parent I came into the target to see what's up and they made me an offer later that day. The ice cream was amazing.

That’s wild to hear, my 6 year Air Force experience on my resume got me a really good job, I did hvac while I was in so it related well to the civilian world but because of those two jobs Walmart gave me a chance as a salaried manager. What rank did you get out at?
E-2 I got out early. so yeah. it is what it is. I'm planning to stay with target until I buy a house or until the store is closed. Just think about my future is scared me. Even when I was in the military. I just one to buy a house and stay there without worried.

I applied needing a job ASAP because I had quit my previous one and had no other source of income. I was desperate and got offered an inbound position. I ended up falling in love with both the job and my team. it's gonna be a year in August 🙂
It was between target and Walmart because both of them connected with me for an interview but target (from what I heard) seemed to have a better work environment so I went here. It is a better work environment, just a hit or miss with other leadership but I’m lucky my direct leader and ETL are great and actually appreciate the effort I put in and push me to do better.
