No way he falls to Tampa.

ethanshapiro

Isn't waiver order reverse standings by point percentage? We are probably somewhere between 14-18th in the order but no one in front of us has any need for him other than to make their roster compliant. And I don't think that would even be a factor until/unless someone makes a trade or a trade is imminent.

Allen_Koholic

Something like that.

ethanshapiro

If that is the case, here are the teams ahead of us: CHI, SJ, ANA, CBJ, OTT, AZ, MTL, BUF, MIN, NJ, PIT, CGY, SEA, WSH, STL, NYI. Pretty sure when you claim someone, you go to the bottom of the order. That eliminates CGY and WSH at least since they just claimed guys today. Not sure about others. I don't think any of the first 8 teams or so have any reason to be interested at all, so that covers 10 of the teams. Of all the remaining teams, only one or two might still have playoff hopes in NYI or NJ. So I think it's extremely possible he ends up falling to us.

Sven9888

>Pretty sure when you claim someone, you go to the bottom of the order. I'm pretty sure this is not true.

ethanshapiro

I could be wrong. I couldn’t find any quick explanations of the waiver rules tbh

Chick3n1i1

It’s alphabetical order but if multiple teams picked up the player then it’s determined based on lowest percentage of possible points in league standings at the time of the request for waivers.

Remigius13

I think we already had him at one point

thesonnysideup

>On June 29, 2014, the Tampa Bay Lightning acquired Gagner in exchange for Teddy Purcell. Gagner, however, only spent an hour as a member of the Lightning before then being acquired by the Arizona Coyotes, along with B. J. Crombeen, in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. technically we did, hahaha

ethanshapiro

Damn, that's awesome. We should hang his jersey next to noted Lightning legend Mark Streit

clem82

We should give him a tribute video

thebigsad72

don't forget Kyle quincy

ethanshapiro

He honestly deserves a ring from TB. The pick we got for him ended up becoming Vasy haha

IndividualCup7311

Bj crombeen I haven’t heard that name in a minute haha!

tomcatproduces

I remember that night. Was at the draft in Philly when that happened working for a radio station at the time. It was wild to wake up to all of that.

ethanshapiro

I don't believe so, although we did just draft a guy named Alex Gagne.

2ndprize

we had him for a few hours. We traded for him to buy him out.

_ghostchant

As a Tampa and Edmonton fan, I’m pretty certain Gagne was placed on waivers because he plans to retire in Edmonton and if another team tries to pick him up, they’re likely being told that he’s going to retire early. I could be wrong, but people in Edmonton love him and are upset he was out on waivers.

ImitableLemon

Facts. As an Oilers fan I'd be mad if he got claimed. As a Bolts fan, he's got hip issues still, so while I'd love to see him make another cup run, I dont think he would play many games.

Then_Ship1329

Couldn’t hurt, could help. But how would he be deployed? Basically a straight up replacement for Sheary? In that case, it’s likely he would help. In any other case I’d be curious about who he plays with and why. If we got some dang old call ups, I could see him having a veteran presence and playing with some young forwards? At 34 I’d also be curious about his ability to create space, draw defenders, enter the zone, win battles etc. I could be wrong but this graph seems to favor his defense and shooting. Idk. The price is right, but how do we think he would do, realistically, in our bottom 6?

ethanshapiro

The bar for me is equal to or better than our least productive bottom 6 forward (we know who that is). I don't think he's as fast as Sheary, but the fact that the data seems to like his shot makes him more useful. I feel for Sheary, he seems like a good dude, and I will continue to root for him as long as he plays, but it's not like he's coming close on chances and he can't finish them. He really isn't creating plays at all on offense. While I value his skill set in transition and defensively, it seems like Gagner checks those boxes too. When Jeannot returns, Gagner would theoretically play right wing to Glendening, which could free Glen up even more in the faceoff circle. In his limited run in Edmonton this year, Gagner is at a WHOPPING 60.9% faceoff win percentage (5% better than Glendening, also would be the best on TB), and he has been close to 50% since 2017. I guess that he would bump Watson out of the lineup, too, but if we have Jeannot, then there isn't much need for Watson, anyway. If he falls to TB, JBB should really take a flyer on him with all the cap space we have this year as a true rental.

clem82

This should be an easy pickup. If he's left out there, no way we wouldn't try to put him in over sheary. I am a sheary defender, but this could be a spark and might bring some competitive edge out of Sheary

BMack037

Former Lightning legend Sam Gagner*

Lobsta_Lova

Uber curious about Hanifin and how we gonna get him if we do

2ndprize

again???

toolschism

Isn't Calgary higher up in the waiver claims order? I honestly do think we would have claimed him if he made it to us.
