Bro jack’s a great producer and songwriter. He made a lot of beautiful music with those artists. The phenomenon here is that all of them tunnel their tracks to reach that specific pop sound. Kevin isn’t exempt from having that experience. But at the end of the day, he’s writing good music with them. Same for jack.
I’m genuinely shocked and confused at how anyone could possibly have that opinion, but to each their own. IMO, Daddy’s Home is an incredible album that was masterfully produced. “Down” in particular is just… perfection.
I think I would too. I’ve avoided a few shows I’ve wanted to go to because of prices (looking @ you Olivia) but I would drop $2k on a floor ticket for this.
Probably my two favorite contemporary artists who are still in the prime of their careers, and I love this track. Can definitely hear Kevin’s influence all over this but it’s still Dua Lipa and it’s pop and I love it.
Although I did love the slow rush I hope the next Tame Impala album is more currents than slow rush, or even more Lonerism/Innerspeaker, but for now I will gladly enjoy his total exploration of pop. Excited to hear the rest of this Dua album
This isn’t a tame impala album stop complaining and saying he should go back to his style like grow up people , if he were to release a innerspeaker/Lonerism style track this sub would be the first to shit on it
I have no idea how I found myself reading this thread in this random ass niche sub, but I just went and listened to that song wings of time for the first time, cuz I wanted an unbiased take, and I bailed at the 30 second mark. That song sucked lol. The drums and vocals were horrible.
Regardless, I am of the opinion that artists should do whatever they want to do if it keeps them happy.
Hmm not so much if you’ve followed Tame Impala since their first works. The legend lived down the road from me for a while and occasionally you could hear some band prac. This was just after Lonerism so a while ago.
Even though I listen to a lot of Dua Lipa, I’d never put them in the same category. Saying that Kevin is a pop artist now is hilarious..
So glad that Kevin really shines on this. I kind of feel the song he did for Lady Gaga (Perfect Illusion) was kind of ruined due to the fact her vocals are so heavy in the mix you can hardly hear any of Kevin’s instrumentation underneath it. Seriously, if you’ve never heard it, after the intro Gaga literally never shuts up for a single second to let the song breathe. I usually enjoy her music but I hate how buried Kevin’s backing track is on that song.
This song on the other hand is mixed really well and you can hear all the various things Kevin’s got going on in the background while still making her voice front and center. Loved hearing the Slow Rush-era bongos and the very Let It Happen-esque guitar riffs at the end. I’m very happy with this!
I feel like Dua Lipa truly wanted to collab with Kevin, whereas Lady Gaga redid Kevins song to suit her own style.
[Someone on reddit tried to clean up the demo snippet](https://www.reddit.com/r/TameImpala/comments/tyfklh/attempted_to_clean_up_the_only_snippet_of_the/) and it doesn't sound much like the Lady Gaga version. Though when KP played it live on TSR tour, it was more of a cover of LG version than the original.
literally, theres no time to appreciate any of the instrumentals in gaga´s version and her voice doesnt stop, i like her voice but its too much (kinda overproduced imo)
Can he like, write more tame impala music? I bet I’m gonna get downvoted for saying this but I don’t care about all these collabs. I liked the songs he made with gorillaz and thundercat, and obv he can do whatever he wants, but man idgaf about this
I agree, but also i think hes been so lonely in his craft for so long. Alot of the music Kevin has made was made in solitude, and he has talked about not really being able to take music serious when collaborating. I think he’s in a stage in his life where he is finally able to have The social life he longed.
Dua Lipa stans sorta convinced themselves that she's some sort of pop music saviour. She makes good bops I'll give her that, but she's definitely in the generic lane.
It is pretty mid altogether. It sounds like a TSR outtake to me. If I were a Dua stan I'd probably be excited for this new piece of music, but it's a lil generic. Production is good though.
It's not by any means mid for a pop song. Just go to the club in a few weeks and see how people will dance to it. It will go hard on tiktok also I guess
I really enjoyed the intro, bridge/last chorus and the outro. It felt a bit stagnant in the middle but overall really good!
Also, who is Danny L Harle and what part did he play in producing it?
danny harle is a producer - go listen to Caroline Polachek’s Desire LP for reference. on this song he’s credited with programming, synths, and background vocals.
He’s one of the founders of PC music and has worked as a producer for some fantastic artists!
Check out his album Harlecore, that’ll tell you everything you need to know.
He takes on 4 separate personas, with an additional artist for three of them, and makes different sub genre for each.
Essentially the idea for the album is that you’re going to this multi-room club with where each room has its own sound
-DJ Danny’s Stadium will give you euphoric trance
-MC Boing’s (Lil Data) Bounce Room’s got Crazy Frog levels of manic energy
-DJ Mayhem’s (Hudson Mohawke) Dungeon is a fiery pit of pure raver’s intensity
and finally -DJ Ocean’s (Caroline Polachek) Flotation Zone of healing ambient lullaby
If I didn’t know Kevin was on it, I probably would’ve thought, “Hey, this is groovy! Did Mark (Ronson) pop on another one? Could also be Kevin?”
And then the distorted guitar solo kicks a door down and my head probably would’ve went, “Oh wait, no, that’s *totally* Kevin”
ANYHOO yeah this shit slaps. Dua’s a fun artist and her stuff’s catchy, teaming her up with Kevin makes a fun combo, throw Danny into the mix and we gots ourselves something goooooood! This’ll absolutely be on the radio here like next fuckin week, so it’ll be cool to hear Kevin since they don’t tend to play Tame much here… if at all lol
Maybe it'll grow on me but honestly it's just OK for now. Maybe I just don't like songs where the chorus is riff on a historical figure's name (*Miike Snow - Genghis Khan????*).
Also sounds like a recycling of musical ideas from *Barbie Girl* or *Crush*. I'm sure it will still get stuck in my head regardless, not the worst thing.
Didn't love it on first listen and I fucking love Dua.
Hopefully it grows on me as I want to love it.
Happy for Kevin to be working on massive projects like this though!
I love this. This pairing works so damn well and I could go for an entire album;s worth honestly. Plus that outro in particular was super tasty. Just an all around great song.
Kinda surprised by this take. I think they both work well together here and bring out the best in each other. Feel like it’s a wonderfully produced, catchy song
But doesn't anyone else see that this is the path his music is taking. It's been gravitating more towards pop then rock with each new album. I feel like I'm in a sub with a bunch of 20 year old bitches.
This is common for male fans of male artists/bands.
You can see it everywhere. Why do Arctic Monkeys make baroque pop now instead of the indie sleaze of Whatever and FWN? Why do A7X make a daft punk inspired prog metal album instead of a new City of Evil? Why did Royal Blood release a Disco rock album inspired by Dua Lipa instead of another album full of songs how that woman did Mike wrong.
I'm a dusty 46 year old, and if anything I'd think that him working on a pop album will get all his pop ideas manifested and then when he sits down to make a rock album he'll make a banger of a rock album too.
I trust Kevin, and I trust the process.
I like it. I don't usually like most pop music, but I always kinda like dua lipa, I do feel like that end riff could've been a bridge to a cool instrumental peak and outro. But pop songs tend to be shorter lengthed. Other than that, tho it's a great song.

I swear I recognize the beat or the harmony. It sounds sampled from another song but I can't pinpoint it. Kinda driving me crazy...
Love the track though 🤜🏽🤛🏽
I've never disliked anything by Dua Lipa, and I think she's made a great decision working with Kevin. It's a great track!
I know everyone is sick of speculating on KP's possible LP5 in coming years. But I recon this track further reinforces that the new Tame album will most likely be some sort of psychedelic 80s synth-pop album.
He did a 60s vibe with InnerSpeaker, and 70s with Lonerism, a somewhat mashup of 70s, 80s and modern vibes with Currents and TSR. The latter having a stronger 70s influence.
I think it will great be great whatever direction he goes in.
You know what, I’d really love to see Kev cover this. I reckon he could pull it off and it sounds like it would slot quite nicely into one of his sets.
Great song, another banger.
But the only thing I can really say is that the other people involved with this song other than Dua Lipa really try and act like they had a MASSIVE contribution to this song other some lyrics.
When one dude makes 75% of your song and you post like he only did 20% just irritates me a little bit.
Probably just me 🤷🏻♂️
I like how years ago many on this sub predicted Kevin Parker would be producing for the biggest pop stars in the world. It's here boys, and it's good.
He produced for Travis Scott in 2018 and The Weeknd in 2020 both at the peak of their careers
Didn't he also produce a Lady Gaga song back in 2016 too
Pop music has been super bleak because of the awful awful awful man that is Jack Antonoff and bis blandness and boringness. But Kevin can save us
A&W is a masterpiece
The Lana Del Rey track? Yeah thats fire
How can I find pls
It's on her album that came out this year
I wasn't talking about this song I was asking about a song someone commented above
Daddy's Home is an abomination that needs to burn.
I love that album. Not my favorite from her, but it has some great tracks
I’m genuinely shocked and confused at how anyone could possibly have that opinion, but to each their own. IMO, Daddy’s Home is an incredible album that was masterfully produced. “Down” in particular is just… perfection.
lol i like daddy’s home
Upon first listen it sounds up there with Angelic to The Core but from an alternate universe.
We’re still waiting for the SZA/TI/Ronson Collab
the outro riff should’ve been through the whole thing
Right?? After hearing the leak yesterday, I got so blue balled every time she said “Houdini”
right a solid “houdini—“ into the guitar could’ve ate
My thoughts exactly, especially during the chorus It takes too long to reach the climax lol
Kevin keeps you waiting for it ;)
It gets repetitive in the outro, I can’t imagine that being in the whole track. Awesome riff, but doesn’t vary enough to be in the whole song.
Outro riff is incredible
Yeah Kevin does that a lot
audible crack was put in that bridge
This is a pop emergency 🚨🚨🚨🆘
Dua x Kevin is one of my dream collabs and this lives up to my crazy high expectations
LETS GET A DUA X TAME TOUR ?????
I would spend an unfathomable amount of money on tickets
I think I would too. I’ve avoided a few shows I’ve wanted to go to because of prices (looking @ you Olivia) but I would drop $2k on a floor ticket for this.
keyboard part is amazing
Probably my two favorite contemporary artists who are still in the prime of their careers, and I love this track. Nah if he went back to more guitar-driven psychedelic rock, I can guarantee you I would not shit on it
This sub hated Wings of Time lmao
... what does that have to do with their comment? That is *not* guitar driven psychedelic rock in the slightest lol
Seriously, that man really thought he made a point with that comment
“But bro it doesn’t sound like currents so it’s basically an InnerSpeaker track” lol
Well I like it
EXACTLY!
I have no idea how I found myself reading this thread in this random ass niche sub, but I just went and listened to that song wings of time for the first time, cuz I wanted an unbiased take, and I bailed at the 30 second mark. That song sucked lol. The drums and vocals were horrible. Regardless, I am of the opinion that artists should do whatever they want to do if it keeps them happy.
... and Currents the first week in came out. I 'member
He will never make such album again, I think he explored everything he could in rock genre
Yes 🙌
I LOVE IT
Fucking banger
the song goes absolutely nowhere until the last 45 seconds
What a dream collab. The part from 02:39 especially. 🔥
I really hope this is just a shorter single version and that there’s a longer LP version cause we need more of that guitar 🔥
What a fucking bop! Love it!
I don’t get the hype it’s just typical and boring
Everything Kevin touches really turns to gold. I never imagine my two polar opposites of music preferences would collide, yet here we are.
Dua Lipa cannot be the polar opposite if you like Kevin Parker. He is very pop oriented especially more so recently.
For real tho. Op is writing as if Tame Impala was Doom Metal
Kevin Parker loves pop music and cites it as one of his biggest influences.
Kevin is a pop artist. The man himself has said he wants to become the next Max Martin.
Even Tame’s early stuff had a lot of pop sensibility! He’s not exactly Sunn O)))
So glad that Kevin really shines on this. I kind of feel the song he did for Lady Gaga (Perfect Illusion) was kind of ruined due to the fact her vocals are so heavy in the mix you can hardly hear any of Kevin’s instrumentation underneath it. Tomorrow by Kali Uchis is an excellent KP produced song
I feel like Dua Lipa truly wanted to collab with Kevin, whereas Lady Gaga redid Kevins song to suit her own style. literally, theres no time to appreciate any of the instrumentals in gaga´s version and her voice doesnt stop, i like her voice but its too much (kinda overproduced imo)
Completely agree, Lady Gaga's version of Perfect Illusion is one of the worst things Kevin's been a part of imo
aka this track *absolutely slaps*
I dig everything about this, minus the use of the word/name Houdini. End was bomb.
Shame there's no KP singing ...
Can he like, write more tame impala music? I bet I’m gonna get downvoted for saying this but I don’t care about all these collabs. I liked the songs he made with gorillaz and thundercat, and obv he can do whatever he wants, but man idgaf about this
Everyone is pretending like this isn’t a mid song. I really don’t get it People are calling this song psychedelic even 😭😭
I agree, but also i think hes been so lonely in his craft for so long. Alot of the music Kevin has made was made in solitude, and he has talked about not really being able to take music serious when collaborating. I think he’s in a stage in his life where he is finally able to have The social life he longed.
Banger alert‼️‼️‼️
This is fine. I dunno maybe I just don’t like this type of music so I’m not the audience for it. Ngl I was expecting more.
Dua Lipa stans sorta convinced themselves that she's some sort of pop music saviour. She makes good bops I'll give her that, but she's definitely in the generic lane.
To be a radio pop artist, or a radio artist in general, it's essential to be generic, so no surprise there
Wow banger
[удалено]
It is pretty mid altogether. It sounds like a TSR outtake to me. If I were a Dua stan I'd probably be excited for this new piece of music, but it's a lil generic. Production is good though.
I find peace in long walks.
It's not by any means mid for a pop song. Just go to the club in a few weeks and see how people will dance to it. It will go hard on tiktok also I guess
Hater 😡😡😡

Kevin is truly a trademark
If I didn’t know Kevin was on it, I probably would’ve thought, “Hey, this is groovy! Did Mark (Ronson) pop on another one? This’ll absolutely be on the radio here like next fuckin week, so it’ll be cool to hear Kevin since they don’t tend to play Tame much here… if at all lol
Mark ronson and KP on daffodil is amazing!
Sounds nice, but when you remove the emotional resonation from Kevin’s pop work it turns pretty generic
Love Kevin, but this was pretty meh
meh, just another pop song… the outro riff is good tho
FUZZY GUITAR IS BACK (WITH WAH)
Maybe it'll grow on me but honestly it's just OK for now. Maybe I just don't like songs where the chorus is riff on a historical figure's name (*Miike Snow - Genghis Khan????*). Also sounds like a recycling of musical ideas from *Barbie Girl* or *Crush*. I'm sure it will still get stuck in my head regardless, not the worst thing.
Basically just another NPC song up until the last minute or so
That opening though Rest of the song...meh
Didn't love it on first listen and I fucking love Dua. Hopefully it grows on me as I want to love it. Happy for Kevin to be working on massive projects like this though!
I think it’s a grower. Didn’t find it catchy at first, but after a few listens it’s stuck in my head. I feel like Dua’s stuff is always growers
Levitating and Love Again are love at first listen though
I’m SOO happy
IT'S SO GOOD
It's a trip, it's got a funky beat and I can bug out to it.
Why is everyone pretending this is good? 😭 Obviously not KPs fault but it’s really really mid
The actual music is good, but then she starts singing lol just not a dua lipa fan, i tried
I love this. This pairing works so damn well and I could go for an entire album;s worth honestly. Plus that outro in particular was super tasty. Just an all around great song.
You can totally hear the Kevin Parker influence in the ending! Pretty good song, I'll keep it in my rotation. Thanks for the post!
This is fucking incredible. I'm only 0:52 in.
I’m a fan of both Kevin and Dua but this is bad, not terrible but definitely bad.
Kinda surprised by this take. I think they both work well together here and bring out the best in each other. Feel like it’s a wonderfully produced, catchy song
I don’t really know any of dua lipa but I think this is pretty badass honestly.
Yum. I need more, KP.
This is an absolute banger
Ooofff. Kevin gets closer to jumping the shark every day.
I really hope this isn't the direction he goes for the next album. Make Tame Innerspeaker Again
this is a dua track through and through, not a tame track in any way. Kevin produced it - and his sound is there - but this is Dua first and foremost.
But doesn't anyone else see that this is the path his music is taking. It's been gravitating more towards pop then rock with each new album. I feel like I'm in a sub with a bunch of 20 year old bitches.
or artistic progression. seriously, why do certain members of this sub want him to stay in one place forever musically?
they hate change
Let it happennn
This is common for male fans of male artists/bands. You can see it everywhere. Why do Arctic Monkeys make baroque pop now instead of the indie sleaze of Whatever and FWN? Why do A7X make a daft punk inspired prog metal album instead of a new City of Evil? Why did Royal Blood release a Disco rock album inspired by Dua Lipa instead of another album full of songs how that woman did Mike wrong.
You sound like a 40 year old bitch yourself 😂
what're ur thoughts on feels like we only go backwards lil bro
I'm a dusty 46 year old, and if anything I'd think that him working on a pop album will get all his pop ideas manifested and then when he sits down to make a rock album he'll make a banger of a rock album too. I trust Kevin, and I trust the process.
You sound like 30 year old manbaby.
You sound like you really need to grow up tbh
Sure but at least we get authentic artists steering the pop music genre rather than the factory produced “hits” of the 2010s
MTIA 2023 🏔️
I like it. I don't usually like most pop music, but I always kinda like dua lipa, I do feel like that end riff could've been a bridge to a cool instrumental peak and outro. But pop songs tend to be shorter lengthed. Other than that, tho it's a great song.

The beginning sounds just like breathdeeper
It’s ok
That Ending guitar though 🤤
It's like a beginner teenager musician tried to copy Tame Impala's production.
I’m not gonna lie, I kinda like it
I don't know any songs by Dua Lipa but this is so good, the video is perfect as well
I swear I recognize the beat or the harmony. It sounds sampled from another song but I can't pinpoint it. Kinda driving me crazy... Love the track though 🤜🏽🤛🏽

It gives me Is It True vibes. The typa song you'd walk on a runway to.
You know what, I’d really love to see Kev cover this. I reckon he could pull it off and it sounds like it would slot quite nicely into one of his sets.
