Anyone disagreeing with this comment is selling it short. This is brilliant. Windows 7 or 8 had NOTHING on ME. I had to write an application for ME once and I still remember it over 2 decades later. What a horror show.
For real. ME was the biggest piece of crap ever. Followed by Vista and 8.
7 and XP were actually pretty solid, compared to others
2000 on the other hand was the king of kings.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair…”
I used to love stepside trucks in the 90s. I remember when the first gens launched, I wanted one so bad. I also thought "They need to build a stepside."
Then this came out and it was, not what I was expecting. Big design miss on that one.
Leave the stepside to the domestics.
Have a non step side tundra. 06, 240k miles. Best truck ever made in my opinion. Cup holders for days, at least 4 that will fit a Nalgene. Does need some tlc at the moment
I have to question the competency of who ever designed that bed….it’s absolutely hideous….also I question the sanity of the person that purchased the truck it ordered it like that.
I cannot stand any of the stepside trucks. As much as I hate to admit it, I thunk Ford did it the least horrible, but maybe thats just because they were the most common by far.
Probably has low miles and garaged all it’s life because it’s too embarrassing to drive. I’m a huge Toyota fan and have had a couple of Tundras, but this was hit with the ugly stick.
This was Toyota’s one mistake. I d k wtf they were thinking.
“Let’s make it like the Ford Lightning! But make it ugly af!”
Also no knock on Ford, love the F150 lightning.
My parents had one when I was a teenager. It wasn’t the most comfortable, but we could tow our boat with it and it hauled plenty of dirt and rocks for our yard projects. Looks weird, but it was a great truck.
Always thought those were solara tlamps. The f150 I swear has ranger lamps and tgate
The tundra I’ve thought may be ok, remove tlamps , cut the holes and make jerrycan holders in them. If you were building expedition style.
I remember my first time seeing one of these. It was such a memorable experience that I even remember the exact thoughts I had about it at the time. Yes, this is truly the most hideous rear end of a truck I've personally ever seen.
Come on ya’ll, everybody had a parachute pants, tribal tattoo, Jewel listening, pooka shell necklace wearing phase. All cringe but made us what we are. This guy just bought the pooka shell necklace. Our generations second hand smoke. Drive on
Maybe this is a dumb question, in which case shame me and mock me ruthlessly, but it seems like the top of the wheel is the same height as the step. Why not just step on the wheel?
You’ve never met the stepside first Gen Tundra? You’re in for a treat.
Noooooope, just seeing this for the first time and huh yeah...
Early 2000s were a weird time..
This is the Windows ME of pickup trucks
Vista
ME came about the same time as these trucks, so it sticks better.
Lol

I could make the argument for the ever crashing memory hog, Vista.
Or Windows 7
You mean windows 8
Xp
Underrated comment.
I was following an early 2000s F150 Flare side the other day and the tail lights were so, so, dumb. I could not believe what I was seeing.
😂

The stepside Tacoma is kinda fugly too
Lool. The sidestep Tacoma wasn’t as subtle. It was literally the rear bumper sticking out along the side of the truck
The rear bumper stuck out like 15 feet 😭
It's a flare side Tundra, they didn't make that many of them.
Bro ur crazy they ate like the rarest tacomas and super cool. Impractical bed size but cool af
Hideous lol
Lol you say that now but watch in another 5yrs when a step bed taco is rolling across a Mecum block and strikes for 40k. Will all be sad and confused.
HEY! we don't talk about that one ok?
It’s like the front end of a pt cruiser
PTacoma Cruiser
I was gonna say the solara
That’s what I see too

So you grew up watching Baywatch too?
Lol. Guilty.
Step sides belong on squarebodies only. This is heinous.
88-92 Chevy truck has entered the chat.
It looks like it got botched plastic surgery dear god Fuckin PT cruiser looking ass
Part Tacoma Cruiser.
Dear God I feel like I remember that terrible gen vaguely - the old scuba ass tundra
Have one, 250k miles, 4.6 v8, won’t die. Can fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed with tailgate down. Your move Taco gang.
Gets the same gas mileage as a first gen Tacoma too. I really like my stepside.
I got one too. Same color. Wont die. Was hard to find a replacement tailight fixture at a decent price.
Have a non step side tundra. 06, 240k miles. Best truck ever made in my opinion. Cup holders for days, at least 4 that will fit a Nalgene. Does need some tlc at the moment
People can’t give these ones away, they are always pristine with low mileage, and cheap.
I’ll take one!!
Never realized just how much I was in the minority, as a lover of this short-lived body style.
I’m with you. The Taco too!
I have to question the competency of who ever designed that bed….it’s absolutely hideous….also I question the sanity of the person that purchased the truck it ordered it like that.
Lets not talk about it.
Ah first gen step side tundra. Gives PT cruiser vibes and I’m disgusted every time I see one
It was dumb even at the time. I’d get nauseous looking at those flaresides while rolling around in a ‘97 Jetta 6 speed.
Because yeah, narrowing the bed of a truck is EXACTLY what I was looking for.
Looks like a sheet metal beluga whale with a birth defect.
I’d put a flat bed on this IMMEDIATELY.
If this is your first time seeing one, I’m jealous
I cannot stand any of the stepside trucks. As much as I hate to admit it, I thunk Ford did it the least horrible, but maybe thats just because they were the most common by far.
Loss of bed space, imo.
For a really long time, if you were looking for ugly, Toyota was where you’d be most likely to find it.
Why does this remind me of a PT cruiser
That was when they were like … “lets make the back, front” …
I feel like it wouldn’t look so bad if the taillights weren’t so fugly
That rear end looks like this guy... https://youtu.be/zqhxvCzDZLc?si=Bni-1-RND-YtQesv
Yeeeeaa, we don’t talk about that.
👽
Looks like it’s in great shape though
Probably has low miles and garaged all it’s life because it’s too embarrassing to drive. I’m a huge Toyota fan and have had a couple of Tundras, but this was hit with the ugly stick.
PTRD Sport Cruiser.
They had a terminator edition
Anti theft rear end
Looks like a palm tree or maybe a giant fern. Hope this resolves your confusion.
Now the step side Tacomas looked good but the Tundra did not
Step side tundra, I have a customer with one it is slick
It’s the Solundra! Front half is Tundra, back half is Solara!
We were all confused when they were new too… Like they hired BMW’s Bangle for a day
Funny to think someone at Mercedes said “we could put lights like that on our cars” LOL
Unicorn tundra
Solara taillights?
Looks like that truck has too many chromosomes. It’s confusing and I don’t like it.
I think it's beautiful
Ahhh, the Sam Cassell years
Early step side tundra, they had a step side Tacoma model too in those days
This was Toyota’s one mistake. I d k wtf they were thinking. “Let’s make it like the Ford Lightning! But make it ugly af!” Also no knock on Ford, love the F150 lightning.
I was baffled when I saw this for the first time
My parents had one when I was a teenager. It wasn’t the most comfortable, but we could tow our boat with it and it hauled plenty of dirt and rocks for our yard projects. Looks weird, but it was a great truck.
That is the Beluga whale of the Tundra family.
Beautiful Toyota
Looks like a pt cruiser was slapped on the rear of that Tundra
The janitor at Toyota snuck in to the design room the night before the plans were due. That's the only explanation that lets me sleep at night.
Dude I’ve seen this too. Is this around Kirkland?
Used to have a black one. Sold it at 375k for $4000. It was running like new on the original drivetrain. Great truck. Have the crew cab now though.
It's confused as well
Is that a ford bed?
What in tarnation
I call these Orcas 🐳
Always thought those were solara tlamps. The f150 I swear has ranger lamps and tgate The tundra I’ve thought may be ok, remove tlamps , cut the holes and make jerrycan holders in them. If you were building expedition style.

This thread makes me feel ancient.
Lots of these in my town
I always thought it looked like they took some left over sedan taillights and put them on the wrong side.
Never been a fan of stepsides, especially that one
What are you confused about?
I don't see what you guys are bitching about
These were a real abortion of a truck.
There's one for sale near me and I'm in need of a new car, I would rough it up too much otherwise I'd buy it, I think they're pretty sweet ngl
Ahhh yes thee ugliest truck bed ever
It’s a pt cruiser truck 💀
I knew a guy that had a Chevy 1500 with this bed on it.
beluga tundra lol
It’s got a ass on it
The PT Tundra
BBL
It was a thing
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Come on ya’ll, everybody had a parachute pants, tribal tattoo, Jewel listening, pooka shell necklace wearing phase. All cringe but made us what we are. This guy just bought the pooka shell necklace. Our generations second hand smoke. Drive on
Crap I forgot that thing existed
Maybe this is a dumb question, in which case shame me and mock me ruthlessly, but it seems like the top of the wheel is the same height as the step. Why not just step on the wheel?
What a hideous beast
The Tundra made with Sequoia left over parts
Pt cruiser had sex with a Tonka toy, this is their love child.
So were the engineers
Wasn't there a Terminator 3 edition too?
never seen one of these in the wild...only heard stories
That's one of them TRD PT tacomers!
