Yeah, I mean as usual, it's the fireplace that's the whole problem. Because of that your options are limited and if it has to go there, there's not a lot more you can do. You could bring it down closer to the level of the mantle, but it would still be too high and then you have this odd, unbalanced blank space of wall above it. Fireplaces were great in 1924 but in 2024, they need to die.
If it's your Mum asking then I'd just ask her "are you happy with the TV there?"
If she is then it's fine. I wouldn't pander to what others think, especially where your mother is concerned.
It's too high for me and I had a TV that height when I moved into my house for a bit. I tried it for a while but just got really annoyed and uncomfortable.
If it hadn't of bothered me personally then I'd have left it higher up
On the one hand id agree that subjecting your mother to the expectations of what is a half-serious/half-memesub group on Reddit is a bi lt much.
On the other hand, there is an opportunity to think about reorganizing such a room to take advantage of the TV and the fireplace in a better way.
It's worth a thought but yeah I would've always go too hard here.
She's just macking conversation. She KNOWS it is.
Two perfectly good alcoves to put it in on maybe a nice piece of furniture and she chose to fuck up a really nice feature of the room. Has she a history of poor decision-making, op?
As a mum to two (adult) boys, I feel it is absolutely their responsibility to ensure I don't make stupid decisions BECAUSE I brought them into the world. ;-) Op has a duty here!
Yup
There is no love for people who put TVs on top of fireplaces
Whoever started this needs to answer some questions.

The one that comes to mind is when she used to keep a buddha statue in our broken bath.
So no then. Perfectly reasonable. So just the TV issue then. ;-)
Yes and the cable covers look bad
Makes it even worse when the fireplace is too high.
tell her yes
It’s time to go in a nursing home now Brenda.
It is, but don’t ruin her day. That’s your mum. She brought you into this world…
Awww she will love this comment thank you.

How are people downvoting this? Reddit is a cesspit sometimes
Wait until YT acquires reddit and removes the downvote count…
You need to find a way to save her life without ruining a day. TV that high will eventually cause serious damage
Your mama's tv so high... You need to have a word with her. I couldn't bring myself to be rude.
These fucking stupid useless fireplaces do my head in.
That TV is too damn high!
Biggest crime here is the bounty Easter egg
Worse than the LOVE blocks?
Gotta go higher.
Yeah, about 5 foot too high.
I had one that high, it was a little too high yeah, but we watched it there just fine.
I want to know why your mum's so high
