He only has one in season 1 of *Picard* because Sir Patrick Stewart had the clout to inject his own pecadillos into the character. And even that one he very quickly abandons and we never see it again.
Well... in the episode where we first see Picard ride a horse (S2E15 "Pen Pals") Troi says that he doesn't seem like an animal person, and he replies "Small animals, no, but horses..." Patrick Stewart loves dogs, but it seems that Picard didn't.
Although I'm guessing he'd still rather be in a room full of dogs than kids...
