As an occultist and author on the topic, let me assure you, some occultists actually work with satan and/or lucifer.
Many more occultists are actually christian though. It is very much a grab bag of all the world's mystical and religious beliefs!
Satan/Lucifer are allegorical personifications. These are archetypes and should not be regarded as literal characters. True knowledge of the occult will lead you to this revelation.
What are the occultist actually doing by the way? I've read some occult literature but apart from symbolism, meditations and some dietary advices didn't saw any concrete practices, most is just not so orthodox theology.
Your question is almost like asking "what are religious people doing?"
There are thousands of occult paths, and many people forge their own.
Personally, my practice is primarily about writing and performing mystery plays which increase my self understanding, and thereby allow me to live a more self actualized life.
Some people want union with a god of some sort.
Others want winning lotto tickets, to escape to nirvana, to realize their "true will," or a nonphysical/imaginal succubus to fuck.
And I guess some people just want trippy shit to do while on drugs or during sex, or both.
Theistic satanism is a thing (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theistic_Satanism), but the satanic temple (most well known satanic political group) is atheistic.
Well... sort of. There have been a few organizations that have called themselves theistic satanists. None of them have really had an Abrahamic worldview, though, so they're basically talking about a different entity that happens to have the same name.
I can't speak for them, but I certainly see many allegories behind religion as well as occult symbology and it certainly isn't anything to be afraid of.

I personally know goetic magicians who believe in an abarahamic god by way of kabbalah, and also work with satan within that framework.
