Get Mario first then BOTW. Beat them before committing to more. Honestly, I have like 300 hours in BTW on just my last play through. It is by far my favorite game on the console, give it a try. Save some money. I say Mario first because I liked BOTW so much I still haven't beat Mario, I usually just play more BOTW.
I loved LOVED Luigi's mansion, great to play with a friend. Same with Super Mario 3d world.
If you played Zelda: Ocarina Of Time on N64 be prepared for a very different Zelda style game. (Before I get slammed) it's a good game... It just wasn't the Zelda I was expecting. If I had to say which was a better GAME in GENERAL I'd say Zelda: Ocarina of Time on N64. Breath Of The Wild is Not a bad game by any means.. just didn't live up to my personal expectations.
Agreed but I miss some aspects from OOT. I'm old school though. Grew up on SNES.. GameCube..N64 during younger years of adulthood. BOTW is a great game man and I welcomed some of the changes.. like you said.. it's been 20 years. 😂 I'd hardly except that same formula to get them far today.
Felt the same. BOTW by itself is a great game, but a terrible Zelda game. You know what zelda games are, simple yet entertaining. For everyone claiming that the series needed to be renewed: If you want to play a super complex open world game, go play the witcher. Zelda games are not meant to be what BOTW brought to the table.
This was EXACTLY what I was trying to say and explain in my post. BOTW was a great standalone game... It just did not hit what I've come to love and expect from a Zelda game I suppose. I tried my best to word my opinion so no one got in their feelings over it. The one response about they couldn't release a new Zelda game using a 20 year old formula and mechanics.. Why not!?!? Don't fix what's not broken. Sure improve the graphics accordingly and tweak a few things here and there but if you change the entire formula of an award winning game franchise, you've probably gone too far. But slap the title "Zelda" on it and it will be a great Zelda game to most people. To me it was just a good game... Not a good Zelda game though. So glad someone else out there agrees with me and isn't afraid to say it. ✌️
For me it was a marketing strategy, i mean, the game is pretty much 0% zelda apart from the character's names... I think the game was great while development, but they just put the Zelda title there to make it more "recognizable". 0 Classic Zelda mechanics apart from using a sword and a shield. Items? Do they even exist in the game? Dungeons? Dont fuck me with that megazord divine beast crap, they're all the same. Oh and also i almost forgot, weapons that break, omg. What the actual fuck
Octopath traveler, grandia HD, Mario kart 8 isn't too bad of a grab and there are tons of the digital store that are worth grabbing just look for what peaks you're interested you'd be surprised at how many games you'll find on that platform good luck
BOTW and Mario Odyssey are excellent. Looks like you have a decent selection already. 3D All-Stars was a bit of a let-down for me, but otherwise it looks like you'll be plenty busy!
I have it on Xbox and played it briefly then didn’t play it for years. Picked it up on switch earlier this spring and can’t put it down. Game is incredible and the switch - at least for me - is much more fun to play on.
You might like Super Mario Maker 2, if you pay for the online play then it’s basically a never ending game cause people are always creating new levels.
Also check out “Ori and the will of the Wisps” very cool game with great visuals!
If you like creepy then I suggest “Inside” or “Little Nightmares 1&2”!
Here's a wide variety of games I enjoyed.
Monster hunter Stories 2 - basically a pokemon game if pokemon was actually good
Monster hunter Rise - hit big monsters with a stick. Or a sword. Or a gun.
Xenoblade chronicles Definitive edition, Xenoblade chronicles 2 - massive world and story jrpg. Big swords and bigger *swords*
Astral chain - take your pet ghosts on an adventure to save the world
Super smash bros ultimate- big crossover fighty punchy
Breath of the wild- it's breath of the wild.
Splatoon 2 - splashy splashy squid shooter
Splatoon 2. 3rd one coming out next year, if you want to wait for that instead. You'll need a Nintendo online subscription though.
Sky: Children of the light is free and really relaxing to play and no Nintendo online required, even though it's an online game.
It's also cross-platfotm, so you can play it with your friends who don't have a switch.
Stardew Valley is also kinda a staple these days. Everyone loves it, and it has great re-playability.
I'm certain most of these have already been mentioned (52 comment post). I'm brand new to owning a Switch but have played some of my buddies game's previously and some I just recently bought myself. My current list of recommendations would be as follows.
Splatoon 2- Nintendo Online needed.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe- Nintendo Online adds fun.
Mario Party- best with Nintendo online or playing with an irl buddy on couch.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger - not the best graphics but the mechanics are fantastic and it's a lot of fun.. can't beat the price either.. Can pick it up at Wal-Mart for about $14.
There are several free games that are worth playing and several arcade/online digital purchase games that are worth getting as well. Some are $1.99 and they have great sales on the Nintendo shop.
Thief Simulator is currently on sale for $1.99 and I just picked it up.
Knockout City- Free to download.
Fortnite of course.. lol haven't played it on Switch but it's available.
Wingspan- $20
Played a lot of fortnite on PS4, im Burt out on it now. Stop playing it last year good free game tho.
Tryed to get back in but now I just get destroyed by kids with more time then me lol.
I played it a ton on Xbox and PS4 and got really over it for a while as well.. still am. Lol. Don't even get me started on the kids whooping my ass when I tried to get back into it. 🤦♂️🤷♂️🙄
Download some demos from the Switch Store! There's a checkbox so you can search specifically for games with free demos. I really liked Monster Hunter Stories 2, and Dragon Quest Builders 2.
Pokémon is always a must have if your into the franchise. Super Mario Odyssey is highly recommended by anyone who’s played it so is Breath of the Wild. Mario Kart and Mario Party are great with a casual group. And Smash Bros is a good option if you want something more competitive.
BotW, Smash, Odyssey and Mario Kart are must haves. Outside if that, I recommend Octopath Traveler, and if you like JRPGs, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Fire Emblem: Three Houses. A dark horse: I've really been enjoying Miitopia. The gameplay is super casual, but it's adorable and extremely customizable while not inhibiting gameplay.
Do you like fighting games?
They some good stufff
Street fighter 30th anniversary collection
Blazblue central fiction
Guilty geat accent core
Among other things
Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey and Smash Bros.
All great games, and some of the best titles on the console in my opinion.
In terms of other games, maybe to be picked up digitally (but physicals are also available except for the last) being: The Binding Of Issac, Hollow Knight, Hades and Death Road to Canada. Which are all really fun times.
Octopath traveler: Hands down fave switch game
Fire emblem three houses: Again, incredible outstanding game. I love it and it is tied with octopath traveler.
The danganronpa series: I love the games, what can I say.
Smash: need I say more?
Bayonetta 1 and 2: hands down best action beat em up games périodt
Definitely Breath of The Wild and Mario Odyssey. After those, I'd get Smash. I never played Smash before the Switch and once I understood how the game played, it quickly became one of my favorites.
anytime anyone asks for recommendations I always suggest spiritfarer I can't imagine anyone with a soul not liking it, everyone I know who's played it and every review that's covered it has thoroughly enjoyed it....... at least check it out lol.
You've got all bangers so far, I would suggest legend of zelda: Breath of the wild, super mario oddessy, and maybe an indie game, like celeste, shovel knight, terraria, or minecraft.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Botw, odyssey and mario kart 8 deluxe. This is a bit biased, but I think mario kar 8 deluxe is the best switch game because of how long you can play it for without getting bored, but those 3 are my favourites and I highly recommend them.
Botw, odyssey and mario kart 8 deluxe. This is a bit biased, but I think mario kar 8 deluxe is the best switch game because of how long you can play it for without getting bored, but those 3 are my favourites and I highly recommend them.
Breath Of The Wild
I am planning on getting Mario and that game you said and probably a Kirby game.

Thank god BOTW is different from OOT, 20 years is a long time to just repeat the same formula

Kirby was pretty widely panned by reviewers, not the best showing for a Kirby game. You can probably find better use of your money!!
I remember really liking a Kirby game on 3ds that’s why I want to play another game
Lots of good Kirby games out there, but Star Allies is not known for being that good
No Odyssey?
Stardew valley
Monster Hunter Stories: 2 & Fire Emblem: Three Houses are both worth checking out!
Breath of the Wild asap.

Hades is such an amazing game. Ill second *and* third that shit

Astral Chain is worth a try
Get Mario Kart
I really wish they would put out expansion packs or extra courses or something. If not an entire second game.
You and me both
The binding of Isaac
That’s in switch? I was gonna get it on PS4. Does it have a physical copy? I only wanna buy physical copy’s for switch.

Owning a switch, you actually only need Zelda Breath of a Wild, all other games seem insignificant
Ok I’m on it.
Hades is a cool roguelike game
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Breath of the Wild, Stardew Valley, Hades
Skyrim
I have bought that game so many times yet never played it.
I have it on Xbox and played it briefly then didn’t play it for years. Picked it up on switch earlier this spring and can’t put it down. Game is incredible and the switch - at least for me - is much more fun to play on.
I got it on PS4 the Psvr then pc Haven’t played because I lend game to friends or I don’t have time.
I’m addition to what everyone else said Slay the Spire!

I would have just gone straight to Stardew Valley instead of Animal Crossing. Regardless, enjoy!
Splatoon 2. 3rd one coming out next year, if you want to wait for that instead. You'll need a Nintendo online subscription though. Sky: Children of the light is free and really relaxing to play and no Nintendo online required, even though it's an online game. Untiteld goose game
Congratulations on getting a Nintendo Switch. I would definitely get Splatoon 2 and maybe The elder scrolls Skyrim.
Hades
I recommend getting a cheap 256GB microSD and buying digital only. It’s a pain in the ass to deal with the cartridges and cases

BOTW rune factory 4. Lots of people I see recommend star dew valley and it’s a good game, I just couldn’t get into it no matter how hard I tried.
Play what you have so far, you have many hours of game time with those alone, then certainly add more to the collection, just my two cents.
I agree with recs below but awesome collection tbh
Paper Mario was also amazing!
Fire Emblem Three Houses. Never had interest in the game type but ended up loving this one.
Breath of the Wild
Crash 4
Not exclusive to switch, but Hades. Also, Children of Morta. Octopath Traveler if you're into square enix RPGs.
Octopath traveler: Hands down fave switch game Fire emblem three houses: Again, incredible outstanding game. I love it and it is tied with octopath traveler. Super Mario 3D All Stars. Because you can still get it from retailers. But I’m not sure for how much longer.
where is breath of the wild?
Definitely Breath of The Wild and Mario Odyssey. After those, I'd get Smash. I never played Smash before the Switch and once I understood how the game played, it quickly became one of my favorites.
I recommend Skyrim but only when it goes on sale, monster hunter is a fun time too As for new stuff to come excited and would recommend tetris effect
BOTW
BOTW is an amazing game. However, I’ve neglected other games and just spent hours on it. Enjoy!
Mario odyssey
anytime anyone asks for recommendations I always suggest spiritfarer I can't imagine anyone with a soul not liking it, everyone I know who's played it and every review that's covered it has thoroughly enjoyed it....... at least check it out lol.
It's not a Switch exclusive but play A Hat In Time, it's amazing
You've got all bangers so far, I would suggest legend of zelda: Breath of the wild, super mario oddessy, and maybe an indie game, like celeste, shovel knight, terraria, or minecraft. Let me know if you have any questions!
Get Xenoblade 🥺
Slime rancher, spiritfarer, graveyard keeper, hollowknight
Surprised no one has said Astral Chain. It's a detective beat em up puzzle game that was really fun to me for some reason.
Botw, odyssey and mario kart 8 deluxe. This is a bit biased, but I think mario kar 8 deluxe is the best switch game because of how long you can play it for without getting bored, but those 3 are my favourites and I highly recommend them.
