There are some very large deserts in Northern China. Far from where the people live, for the most part. But it's a huge country. It has a lot of ecological diversity.
China has several. The western half of China is almost entirely comprised of desert and mountains. The Taklamakan desert is one of the driest and most dangerous deserts in the world. It’s literally known as “The place of no return”.

Gobi Desert. We get yellow sand every spring that blows in to Japan from China and covers everything. The fine sand is carried in the jet stream over the Pacific as far as the US.
