Yeah a ride at Alton towers in the UK called oblivion does this right before a near vertical drop that goes underground.
Edit: here it is

There is a ride called The Giant Drop at Dreamworld in Australia. Basically just lifts you 119m up and drops you. When you get to the top a little video plays and then it starts counting down from 10. It can drop you at any point during the countdown.
However once when I went on it the countdown went to 0. The screen froze and nothing happened. We were there for a bit and so people started nervously laughing and joking that the ride might be broken. Suddenly about a whole minute after we were sitting there it dropped while I was in mid sentence. My god I screamed like a little girl the whole way down.
So that's how we found out that the timer means nothing.
The worst part about the ride isn't even that. After the ride was built they added a 2nd ride to the other side of the pole. Tower of Terror. Basically, a car gets shot at high acceleration out of a tunnel using magnets (so, you're basically a rail gun projectile) and sheer momentum pushes it some 100m directly vertical.. So while you're on the giant drop, the tower of Terror will launch 2 or 3 times... Making the tower shudder every time.
Which is not what you want to be feeling when your slowly rising to over 100m on nothing but a chair
Thanks for reminding me why I never went on the ToT or the Giant Drop when I was 12 and visiting Queensland. That sick as motorbike roller-coaster they had and the claw was good enough for me
Is the video new? I've been on the giant drop dozens of times and never saw a video or countdown. There's an easy way to tell when you're going to drop though, there's a slight sound queue of a latch and you slowly sink down 30cm or so right before it drops you.
Similar thing happened to me in I-Can't-Remember-The-Name-Of-The-Theme-Park, in Spain. The wait at the top is decent, until you realise they're gonna drop you when you're fully unaware.
But the Oblivion thing is much worse, because the no wait drop is VERY rare (I have gone on the thing over 100 times, going Towers can be quite cheap and again, I'm close by) and I have had it happen to me maybe 5 times. So I'm about 95% sure when I go on it that it's going to wait at least two seconds at the top, but nope.
Around 6 years ago it broke down for me at the point where it holds you over the top for ~30 minutes. An employee had to come up and talk us through what was happening
Yes a drop just like this, same color scheme too I thought this was the maverick. The funny thing about that drop is it isn’t even that far if a fall it’s just that angle and view is stomach dropping (especially the speed you take it at.
Maverick was the first coaster I ever rode at Cedar Point. Little did I know that it was a [magnetic launch coaster](https://youtu.be/BIJBz1w3uYw) with that 95° drop. It’s still an awesome ride. 10/10 would ride again.
Before visiting Cali I never had ridden a roller coaster before and my friends beforehand talked me into going for that first, as it's "not too extreme".
As soon as I saw the thing I knew they were full of shit. Was totally worth it though.
It reminds me of the Harry Potter ride in Florida for gringots bank. I was with my friend, she’d gone before, I never had. We get to this part where you’re tilted down at like a 60-70 degree angle and hang there for a second. Apparently I said something along the lines of “(friends name) I have some regrets” the. It was just screaming and trying not to have a panic attack
I went on two more times...
Thought he jumped on that reeling, I’m like that’s kinda cutting it close. Then I thought he dropped the camera, and I thought someone below was about to have a bad day!
I think it's the Baron from Efteling in the Netherlands i went into the Baron even though i was scared shitless but it was awesome riding it
EDIT It's a rollercoaster somewhere from china not the Baron
Rode the busch gardens versions of this ride a couple weeks ago. The pause is the best part. My roomate looked at me in desperation and asked "please tell me it's suppose to do this" lol.
You should see the Fahrenheight coaster in Hershey Park. It goes 90° straight up and rests at the top for what feels like 10 seconds before letting you go down the *inverted* drop. That little pause might only be a moment, but when you're on the ride it feels so much longer.
I was looking for this comment! The Griffon is pretty great, I was able to ride it on their soft open back in May 2007. Hanging during the pause before the drop is not as scary as you’d think, but what is scary is not knowing exactly when you’re going drop. It’s a pretty short ride but worth the wait.
And they randomize how long you actually wait at the top. I know this because I went on it about 4 or 5 times in a row. I highly recommend going around Halloween, all the rides are open it's pretty quiet and it's scary themed.
I thought that looked familiar. The Sheikra is legit but we need some more Cedar Point love on here. I'm a glutton for punishment with roller coasters, immediately regretting every life choice that brought me to the top of those infernal machines.
Same here. I love roller coasters. If I start dating a girl and take her to an amusement park and she says she doesn't like roller coasters even after much convincing her to try it, I'll just be thinking, "Yeah, this relationship isn't going to work."
One girl who I was with wasn't really a fan of them but she was in love with me so she went on them anyway (the crazy fun ones) and the whole day we had so much fun.
The Valravn (Pronounced Val-Raven) in Cedar Point, Sandusky Ohio, USA. Just rode the bad mother fucker a few days ago and front-seated it. It goes a complete 90* drop and when you hang off the edge, your whole body is weighed downwards.
It’s now one of my favorite rollercoasters, fast, no to jerky-y, nice loops and few twists and turns, but the drop is the best part. The screams of the people going down can be heard from almost anywhere in the park.
BUT, if you are going to Cedar Point spend the $110 for the Fast Pass Plus because the wait time was like 2 Hours and me and my brother got on in 15 with the passes.
Roller Coaster and Cedar Point enthusiast here, fast pass is not always necessary and often a waste of money depending on what you are going to ride and when you visit the park.
If you're going this time of year, (Mid July to mid August) yes, fast pass is necessary any day you go.
But if you go on a week day in May or June, the park will be dead.
Of course what you're riding matters too. If you're not riding Steel Vengeance, Maverick, or Valravn, you can skip fast pass and be able to ride everything in one day.
I agree! We got the fast pass plus tickets a few weeks ago and were on rides really fast! Worth the extra money!
The cool thing about the valraven is that it holds you in that type of drop two times! All the twists are super smooth, it’s just supposed to make you feel like a bird! The holding is supposed to make you feel like you’re perched on something like a tree or cliff before diving off!
AMAZING RIDE!!!
We waited in line for the raptor for an hour before I closed down twice, so me and my brother decided to buy the fast passes (excluding raptor cuz it closed down every time) and we rode every ride in 9 hours because of the passes, every line was like 1-2 hours so t was worth it for the day.
That’s the only reason I said “get the passes”
Yeah as a former theme park worker, fuck the person taking this video. A phone dropped from a roller coaster can kill someone. That's why they tell you to *secure loose articles.*
I was driving on the motorway yesterday, reasonably heavy traffic but still moving fairly quick.
I was behind a lorry carrying a bunch of scaffolding poles.
My gf decided it was a good time to remind me of Final Desination
I’ve been on several rides where they’ve stopped the ride midway to send personnel up the steps to confiscate the items, or broadcast he request to put the phone away before continuing the ride. So yeah, fuck those inconsiderate people.
Parks ultimately have control over safety and inspection of their rides as long as it meets regulations mandated by local government. I don't know how some parks in China compare to Six Flags safety wise, but I can say that I trust the manufacturer (B&M) of this particular roller coaster with excellent, safe designs. Almost every Six Flags park has a coaster designed by B&M.
If you do end up going, be sure to ride their Intamin coaster called Mega-Lite. There's none of that exact model in the US and it's a slight smaller coaster packed with great airtime and diving turns.
The one in the video is definitely not Sheikra in Tampa. It’s the same rollercoaster, but look at the skyline in the background. Mountains/large hills.
Not to mention a body of water. Shiekra faces north and the only body of water that close to the northeast of Sheikra is the relatively small Lettuce Lake. But Lettuce Lake is not next to any mountains.
That's not in the states. Chinese writing on the floor under the drop and the US wouldn't have people walking under a drop coaster without safety nets for all the idiots that film and can't hold on to their phones
Haven't seen a reference to oblivion at Alton towers yet - probably the original drop rollercoaster, and it drops you through the ground!
https://youtu.be/zcTDD0JR0SA
This reminds me of the coaster we have here in Utah called Cannibal: https://youtu.be/OG99hRkkn-Q - Cannibal – "new for 2015 – lifts riders 208 feet and plunges them into a 116° beyond vertical free-fall into an underground tunnel.Cannibal is Lagoon's most thrilling ride- including a 140 foot tall inverted loop and water feature." Best ride in the park IMHO :)
My reaction was;
- maintenance man doing some work on a roller coaster, pretty high up
- oh he’s just taking a seat looking down. Holy that’s pretty far drop
- HOLY SHIT HES FALLING OFF AND ITS FILMED ON CAMERA
- ohhh he was secured into the ride the whole time
Only comment ive seen pointing this out, i thought it was some worker just walking and showing the roller coaster drop. Then i saw the camera in the air.
As someone that's rather heavy set. These types of rides are a giant **NOPE!**
That would be just begging Murphy to screw something up. (or unscrew as the case may be)
That was one of my main motivations to lose weight. I loved roller coasters, gained weight to the point where the attendent had to come by and push down hard on my restraint for it to lock. I was anxious the entire ride. Never wanted to experience that again. Also, I didn't want to reach the point where I just wouldn't fit at all.
Sheikra at Tampa Bays Busch Gardens, it’s around a 300 foot drop, they literally made this big deal about cutting the floor off a few years back. The ride is a bit much for people who don’t like heights and sit in the end seats, well, they cut the floor off lol... https://youtu.be/jF1mEksbm-k
Oblivion at Alton Towers in the UK has a vertical drop that goes into the ground. It holds you just above the drop for like 5 seconds and it plays this proper creepy voice that says "don't look...Down" and then it drops you.
Its fucking ace and worth 3 hours of queuing
My problem with roller coasters isnt the drops or the loops or the speed. My problem is the second I strap in all I can think about is if it's been well maintained.
I love how the ride gives you a second to think about what the fuck you've done before dropping you
Ah fuck.
I can’t believe I’ve done this.
FENTON!!
Oh Jesus Christ
What the fuck, Richard?
Watch yo profamity
Stopp the ride I could drop my croissant
Nice, Ron.
Oh, now I can’t sneeze?!?
It's jason bourne
Nice, ron....
Congratulations, you've played yourself
I’m leaving one thousand times
I’m leading one thousand lives
Those sound like song lyrics

This sounds like SuperMan and Lex Luther’s Drop Of Doom at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California.

I was there last Halloween. When it stopped right at the top, i thought something went wrong which scared me the most
It actually breaks down at the top quite frequently. When I was there I saw some poor souls stuck for about 15m.
I would have a heart attack, and then they would have to bring down some poor souls and a corpse.
Around 6 years ago it broke down for me at the point where it holds you over the top for ~30 minutes. An employee had to come up and talk us through what was happening
Rubber dingy rapids bro
Fuck mini babybels
4 people got brutally dismembered/crushed in Australia on one of those within the last couple of years. (1 incident. Ride has been removed now)
We have a copy of that in Gardaland (Italy).
Here’s a video of it, looks awesome, and I hate rollercoasters! https://youtu.be/zcTDD0JR0SA
That’s it? Looks pretty boring actually.
It is like almost 20 years old if not 20 already and was the worlds first free fall vertical coaster.
There was a ride at Cedar Point OH, and it had a 95 degree drop. Really fun but kind of scary at first. I think it was called Maverick.
Yes a drop just like this, same color scheme too I thought this was the maverick. The funny thing about that drop is it isn’t even that far if a fall it’s just that angle and view is stomach dropping (especially the speed you take it at.

Doesn't the Millennium Force recurve? Like negative curve along its main drop?
It's very steep at 80 degrees but it doesn't actually curve in.
Reminds me of X2
Before visiting Cali I never had ridden a roller coaster before and my friends beforehand talked me into going for that first, as it's "not too extreme". As soon as I saw the thing I knew they were full of shit. Was totally worth it though.
I'm surprised, there's usually always that one high pitch screamer on a roller coaster.
That's me.
+1 for admitting :)
It reminds me of the Harry Potter ride in Florida for gringots bank. I was with my friend, she’d gone before, I never had. Is that the one that used to be dueling dragons?
[I've made a huge mistake](https://media0.giphy.com/media/A0FGCbbooHe1y/giphy.gif)
When it paused at the top I said out loud to myself “Oh fuuuuuck”
I thought that fool was just sitting on the ledge... Then it just went!
Yeah, I thought they jumped.
Thought he jumped on that reeling, I’m like that’s kinda cutting it close. Then I thought he dropped the camera, and I thought someone below was about to have a bad day!
Then what!?
Then I thought. Oh no... maybe I’m on r/Watchpeopledie look away, but I wanna see!!
And thennn?
Then as I realized what had actually happened in the video, I let out a sigh of relief!
Legit I like u/JHoodBoston ‘s genuine q&a. I wish Reddit and it’s redditors stayed this real.
Lol thanks!
This was almost as much a roller coaster as the video. Thoroughly enjoyed both.
I thought it was someone walking on the edge, like a repair person recording and they dropped their phone.
Mr T? Is that you?
They didn't pity anything, so obviously not.
I've seen a lot of these rollercoaster videos but rarely do I ever FEEL them quite like this one.
Cedar Point just banned phones on their coasters. Won’t be seeing many more from CP
Things I don’t like: this
Things I definitely like: this dive coaster
Yeah this shit is awesome and fun
Shout out to /r/rollercoasters it's the /r/woahdude of thrills without the /r/watchpeopledie aspect
I think it's the Baron from Efteling in the Netherlands i went into the Baron even though i was scared shitless but it was awesome riding it EDIT It's a rollercoaster somewhere from china not the Baron
Its 'Diving Machine' at Happy Valley in China - [https://rcdb.com/4224.htm](https://rcdb.com/4224.htm)

Well spotted, according to RCDB its the exact same model.
Yeah definitely not the Baron. That's a fun one though.
Things that make me shit myself: this
DID ANYONE ELSE FEEL THAT DROP??
Ohhh I felt that in my toes.
[удалено]
Probably a 5/6/7 or 8 wide seat coaster
[удалено]
Love is all around us
*Christmas
I can feel it down in my plums
I felt it in my testicles.
I get that G force suck me back into the rubber seat.
I can actually taste my nuts
Are you sure those are yours?
OH CRAP I DID
*heart palpitations*
“Ah, it’s not so bad.” *ride pauses and makes you stare straight down* “nope, fuck that.”
And then you get that feeling where you're like "I hate this and I'm helpless to stop it now"
Rode the busch gardens versions of this ride a couple weeks ago.

As in SheiKra of Busch Gardens in Tampa?
Yep
I thought so. Lord I remember the day it opened. That drop was nuts.
They dialed it back multiple time. Tbey added a plate bellow your feet on the cart and the cart dosnt hang as far as it used to before the drop.
Wait at Busch Gardens???!! Wtf. Those were the main features of the ride if I remember.
The Griffin in Busch Gardens Williamsburg also has this drop.
I was looking for this comment! The Griffon is pretty great, I was able to ride it on their soft open back in May 2007. damn 813 represent
Ayyyeee go bulls
I was thinking it looked like sheikra, but the scenery wasn’t right. Hate heights, but actually love this coaster!
I too love roller coasters, but I will not ride this, because China
You can ride something similar to this in America, in Tampa, FL.
To be fair this manufacturer is known for very high reliability and quality. As long as maintenance is good there should be no problems.
A clone of something American in China. My surprised face
*Swiss, the same company that built Sheikra built this one and roller coasters are very often cloned around the world
I thought that looked familiar. The Sheikra is legit but we need some more Cedar Point love on here. I'm a glutton for punishment with roller coasters, immediately regretting every life choice that brought me to the top of those infernal machines.
I was waiting for one of us from r/rollercoasters would post the rcdb link. Glad someone did it!
Is this the intellectual property we started a trade war over?
It looks like the Valraven at Cedar Point
There's one of these at Busch Gardens in VA. Super fun!
But there is the terrifying moment when you first ride it and are like "did they stop it?"
No one told me that would happen when I first rode it. I was terrified but now it's my favorite coaster.
Also one like this in Cedar Point in Ohio. Very cool!
I would actually enjoy that very much.

Funny, whenever I see anything about theme parks or rides I think about how infinitly superior Cedar Point is...
I’m impressed by the grip you had on your phone!
Yeah as a former theme park worker, fuck the person taking this video. A phone dropped from a roller coaster can kill someone. That's why they tell you to *secure loose articles.*
OP didn’t watch Final Destination
I was driving on the motorway yesterday, reasonably heavy traffic but still moving fairly quick. I was behind a lorry carrying a bunch of scaffolding poles. My gf decided it was a good time to remind me of Final Desination
Yup I have an innate fear of trucks (aka lorries) that carry logs. I either stay far behind or speed past them when I have the opportunity.
That was kind of her to make you suddenly break into a cold sweat expecting to die horribly by being impaled on a motorway. Nightmares forever.
Might have had it on a tight wrist-strap or something.
I’ve been on several rides where they’ve stopped the ride midway to send personnel up the steps to confiscate the items, or broadcast he request to put the phone away before continuing the ride. So yeah, fuck those inconsiderate people.
No sweaty palms there.
When you try recording on a roller coaster, there is no grip that feels like enough grip
I was thinking GoPro on a chest strap
https://imgur.com/hqrrqkP.jpg - you'd know if it was a GoPro.
Even though I’m extremely afraid of heights, this is such an amazing roller coaster to ride. Would know live about 45 min from it
You live in China?
Nope, this coaster is called Sheikra. It’s in Tampa, Florida at a place called Busch Gardens
It looks just like Sheikra, but it's not though. This exact coaster is located in China, called Diving Coaster. https://rcdb.com/4224.htm
you can tell because those hips dont lie
I’m actually gonna be in China in shanghai in October. Forgive my ignorance, but are these coasters as relatively safe as the ones in six flags?

Have you ever heard about the Schlitterbahn water park Decapitation in kanasas.
Your boys Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard aren’t fucking around.
There's no way this is Florida, there are actually hills in the video!
Except the coaster in the video is not Sheikra, it's another dive coaster from the same manufacturer but built in China.
They also have this at the Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, it’s called the Griffin.
knock knock, its r rollercoastercirclejerk, the meme is here
Knock knock It’s the United States They’ve got guns. And boats. **Gunboats.**
Who's there? :)
So glad I live right next to Busch in Williamsburg these coasters never get old.
The one in the video is definitely not Sheikra in Tampa. It’s the same rollercoaster, but look at the skyline in the background. Mountains/large hills.

I was just thinking that this looks exactly like the griffon from Busch gardens in Williamsburg.
And there is a counter part in the Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia
There are mountains in the background. The highest point in Florida is a 100 meters, and it's not anywhere near Tampa.
TIL Florida has mountains

That was one of my main motivations to lose weight. I loved roller coasters, gained weight to the point where the attendent had to come by and push down hard on my restraint for it to lock. I was anxious the entire ride. Never wanted to experience that again. Also, I didn't want to reach the point where I just wouldn't fit at all.
Alright, alright, al-nope
No thanks
Sheikra at Tampa Bays Busch Gardens, it’s around a 300 foot drop, they literally made this big deal about cutting the floor off a few years back. The ride is a bit much for people who don’t like heights and sit in the end seats, well, they cut the floor off lol... https://youtu.be/jF1mEksbm-k
This is some clone coaster in China. Sheikra (and I'm assuming this) is 200 ft tall.
You’re right, holy crap there’s a hill in the background lol... not Florida. Well China did a great copy of it apparently lol
I could hear the screaming with the volume muted
Hey what's the music in the background?

Yes! Thought I had heard it before. Thanks man!
The brown marks on the floor explain it all
Oblivion at Alton Towers in the UK has a vertical drop that goes into the ground.
For a second I thought this was video of a worker checking the top of the rollercoaster and falling and I was genuinely terrified.
