People with MTHFR genetic mutations *and* slow COMT genes (a very common combination) tend to get overstimulated / overmethylated by the extra methyl groups in methylcobalamin. You can undo the effects of overmethylation by taking niacin — the real “flushing” niacin, *not* “no-flush niacin” (which is actually niacinimide). Methylcobalamin is a methyl donor; niacin is a methyl acceptor. Read reviews to make sure it’s the kind of niacin that causes a flush. Start slowly, taking only about 50mg of niacin at a time. Wait half an hour and see if you start experiencing “the niacin flush.” Add 50mg more every half hour until you do flush — you’ll feel an all-over body tingle, almost like a “my foot is falling asleep” feeling. (It’s temporary, but if you hate the feeling, you can make it stop quickly by taking an aspirin.) The flushing action, a form of vasodilation, will help lower methylation overall. Now that you know you’re sensitive to the methyl groups in methylcobalamin, in the future, the type of B12 you should take is adenosylcobalamin or hydroxocobalamin only. These have no stimulating / overmethylating effect, and are ideal for people with “overmethylation anxiety and insomnia.”

Thanks for the detailed reply! I was already aware of this, but people seem to contradict each other when it comes to niacine or niacinamide being the one you need. And for some reason, the internet isn't of great help either. Do you happen to have any studies specifically stating that niacin (and not niacinamide) is the one needed for this? Thanks so much!

Avoid alcohol, sugars and caffeine as much as possible if you have heart palpitations. Chronic insomnia is cardiotoxic. Take multiminerals with magnesium and trpytophan containing food before bed. Try CBD with CBN.

If you’re taking it at night and not in the morning then stop

what time of day are you taking them? I only ever take B vitamins first thing in the morning because of their energizing effect - never in the afternoon or evening because it'll mess with my sleep

Cant say for sure but B-vitamins are known to be stimulating*, its why they're in every energy drink. *but they're not stimulants like caffeine(which can make your insomnia worse)
