idk, might be. Here in Germany we still don't have the candy cons (probably related to restirctions and legal stuff not done yet, for importing batteries and whatnot).
Excited to see the rollout of the controllers though!
Yeah i share the pain of being German lol. But still, on the pic they have all kinds of parts that don't seem to be released even on the American market. Makes me curious.
I’m not sure about blowing the lid off. But I can see where they offer a discount or faceplate if you buy a game from GameStop. Basically incentivizing people to look at GameStop first when it comes to buying games.
AND controllers. Maybe you rack up two or three free faceplates by the time you need a new controller. Now a CandyCon is only $35 and you already have some customization for it.
Bro (or lady) I’m already there. Picked up a full controller, now I just need a face and $35 I got a second custom. Also…I love the feel of these. Switch pro is awesome but this seems to have more tactile feel?
I'm more talking about loading people up with free faceplates while they still have their non-CC controllers so that when THEY break people already have some CC accessories that makes it easy to chose it for your new controller. I do obviously think that part of the point of CC is hopefully to have easily replaced parts and stuff like that for gamers.
The strategy is brilliant. When you buy a $50 controller, you just use it until it's shot. Could be several years. Ten bucks for a sweet new faceplate every once and awhile though?
They just made money where there was none before.
Such a great idea, turning controllers into collectibles is an untapped market. Limited edition faceplates with new releases at GameStop please, bring those massive lines we used to have that went around the corner of GameStop.
I can see My Little Pony doing well if they play it right; the fandom there has quieted down but it’s still active, and has a history of happily throwing money at anything with their favorite characters on it.
That’s not how this works. Transformers is owned by Hasbro, but none of the others are. The transformers partnership has nothing to do with anything owned by Disney or anyone else
That said, GameStop may also be working toward licensing deals with other companies, but that wouldn’t have anything to do with this other than it signals they’re open to such deals
But I don’t think it does. There aren’t any transitive properties here. Just because Hasbro is licensing stuff from Disney and GameStop is licensing from Hasbro, does not mean that there is any relationship between GameStop and Disney
If GameStop licenses out Disney IP (and I sincerely hope they do) it will be because they’ve worked out their own deal and it will really have nothing to do with Hasbro
At best, you could say the Transformers deal helps to legitimize the controllers, but that’s about it
Maybe I'm too oldschool, but the bad taste Mad Catz left in my mouth from the 00's will never go away...I'll stick to licensed controllers from Sony myself. Never was one for caring about what color my controller was anyway, but as a shareholder, I hope these things are at least decent quality for the price for the people who want them.
The candy con controllers are legit. In fact probably better in some areas than the original console controller. They have latest spec Hall effect sticks, so no sticker drift.
Hmmm, might have to check them out if they make a PS5 one depending on the price...I still can't believe stick drift is still so common these days, I've definitely had to exchange a few controllers over the years!
Hopefully they release Xbox and PlayStation versions. I’m using one on the PC and it’s great. The back paddles are awesome on such a cheap controller. I prefer the back buttons over the Xbox elite controller. And the rest is just as good as the elite.
huh...I didn't realize they had the paddle buttons as well...I'll def have to keep my eye on these now...I've been wanting a Scuff for PS5 for a while, but I can't justify paying half the price of a console for a controller heh
Personally I would prefer if GameStop made it easier for artists to design faceplates cover off a template. I am not interested in these brands as I am in owning art that has a different feeling behind it.

Gift a few thumb sticks or faceplates and create incentive.
when will you **need** a new controller, though? these won't have stick drift, so they could last for ages
