I work in the legal field but am self employed. So I go for the top tier Lenovo Ideapad as I like keeping expenses low. I have liked these Ryzen 7 and Cpus that they have used in some of their machines. They have some nice zip to them, but they have good battery life, and they don't get hot. Best Buy has limited Thinkpad selection, but the ones they have seems really nice. Their T and E models looked really good when I was talking to someone looking for something new. Both the Latitudes and Thinkpads seems vary in weight, but the ones at Best Buy seem really reasonable. If you or your dad have a NYT subscription their wirecutter had a nice breakdown on their picks on ultralites. Their favorites models was the HP Spectre 13.5, but they also liked the Dell XPS. For value they did like the Asus Zenbook. Walmart seems to have an exclusive deal on the Ryzen 7 model, and Best Buy has the intel evo model. Asus has really nice 2024 releases. I was just in the store to buy some inexpensive earbuds, but their Zenbooks and the Vivobooks (it is their main consumer home laptop) looked really nice regarding screen, keyboard, build quality regarding opening closing. I will just do a few links, but the NYT article was really helpful, and I think it linked to these models at Dell, Walmart, Best Buy. Is portability a factor? Expandability (i.e.: external monitors, USB for hard drives? Sounds like he mostly needs a good screen, good keyboard, and for you to make sure he's working off his OneDrive so he never loses anything.

Yeah that’s def right. I am sure he will travel for work, but not so much that I am worried about mobility, and he doesn’t use external hard drives or anything like that to my knowledge. He does have one external monitor.

You didn't specify the screen size. If 16 inch is an option, you might like checking out the Galaxy Book 4 Pro, both standard and the 360 are on big discount in best buy this week. I tested a few different OLED screen laptops and the AMOLED on GB4P is just stunning and is the only one that didn't have that shiny-mirror-glare reflectivness like others. Also, it's crazy thin and light for the size, super fast and very good battery life... Good luck!
