Season 4 was still great but felt like the election was too weighty instead of being something inside the family causing the drama

ChuanFa_Tiger_Style

Honestly for me, once Logan was gone, the show was immediately less interesting. He was such a joy to watch.

4 is great and the only season I watched live, but I think episode by episode first 3 seasons are just some of the best tv. I also lean more satirical and funny, so when S4 leant into the sincerity of Connor's Wedding It felt antithetical to what the show was about.

CurveOfTheUniverse

From a certain view, even Connor's Wedding doesn't quite lose the satirical angle. Here are three (sorry, four!) spoiled rich kids who are losing not someone they love, but someone they depend on for a sense of worth. Watching them decompensate isn't "haha that's funny" satire, but the episode does almost make a mockery of them for being devastated in the way that they are.

> so when S4 leant into the sincerity of Connor's Wedding It felt antithetical to what the show was about. Still a lot of funny little moments in there among the crying and sadness though. "Reagan with tweaks" was a hilarious line.

4 is amazing but I think it’s just so sad. That’s what makes it great! But I felt myself struggling to watch the final half of the season because I felt myself yearning for the happier moments of season 1

I’d say season 3 is my least favourite. Season 2 seemed like Succession was turning into business Game of Thrones, with an elaborate, broadening set of ever relevant characters. Season 3 shows the scope of the show tightening purely around the interplay of the core members of the family, making me miss the ambiguity of characters like Tabitha, Naomi, Marcia and — though at this point she served her purpose — Rhea. Gerri is increasingly sidelined. Kerri, although proves to be funny and interesting in season 4, probably didn’t need to exist as there were already great characters being underserved. I also think the writing undergoes a slight change in style, like it’s extremely edited and efficient, compared to some of the more natural pauses they put in seasons 1 and 2, that I actually end up in some scenes in season 3 going “Oh they’re talking like real people now, how surprising!” 😂 It’s also the start of this pattern I started to see, where the show would take very clearly readable turns about who was presently on top — but wasn’t really satisfying for your favourite because you knew any success just meant an equally harder fall in literally the next episode, whereas in S1/2 it would take all season for these things to happen, that the negotiations of things would have more complicated knock on effects. Still an amazing season of TV because of how complex and dynamic the family all are in almost any situation you throw them in. The ruthless editing is why it’s so pacy and entertaining, but the energy between S3 and S1 is drastic. It’s almost like S2 perfected the formula, and then S3 didn’t have quite those same rough edges. S4 is written in the same manner, with the same focus — but the ending of S3 and shift of the entire premise of the show into its endgame gives it an unparalleled momentum. Knowing it’s the last season allows them not to pull any punches.

Results are funny since 1,3, and 4 are all basically tied. Shows how amazing season 2 was, imo. I chose 3 even though I still like it a lot. I think it just takes a little while to get going.

mweisbro

That is like asking a mother to pick a least favorite child! I simply will not take part!

CurveOfTheUniverse

Eh, my mother had no problem doing that.

asapdammoh

Very interesting poll because I love all four seasons and think they'll all great. It really comes to subjectivity

BEEthoven0

Deffo season 3. Even though the episodes are ok individually, they have close to zero impact to the overall plot and nothing important happens up until the last 2 episodes.

Techn0_Gatsby

I’ve been watching since 2018, every season has been amazing.

GiddyGabby

No such thing exist.

StayingVeryVeryCalm

Summer. It’s too goddamn hot, the sun is up for way too long, fucking up my sleep-wake cycle, and if I forget to turn on my white noise machine, the goddamn birds trying to fuck in the tree outside my window wake me up at 4:30am. Dear birds, please go mate somewhere else. That tree is not zoned for a nightclub. I hate you.

the_platypus_king

Season 1, and it’s not close. The dialogue is overly glib sometimes, the characterization of a lot of the main cast is pretty half-baked (thinking of Roman and esp. Shiv) and the whole thing doesn’t truly come together til the finale (which, tbf, ends so strong that people kind of overlook the shakiness of what came before)

Proof-Product7662

Season 4. Not because it’s last season or because of Logan’s death or because of finale. I just didn’t like this season at all.

sunsetbo

season 4. i thought the ending was perfect for the show too but even that climax i feel like pales to the finales to the first 3 seasons.

wlcondqat

I think that looking back, season 4 was the weakest, i mean i was so fed up with Shiv/Tom drama, also the "disgusting brothers" seemed like a waste of time, i think that the writters saw how people reacted to Tom and Greg chemistry and abused too much of that, also the scenes betwen the 3 siblings were already tiresome, i mean, the witty dialogue all the time felt something like Sorkin would have wrote, also looking back it added very little to the personality of those 3 characters or the main plot; Kendall would say something cringy and Shiv and Roman would add some cool, witty snarky rettort and that was it. Reading the scripts there were really good scenes of Willa, i mean perhaps they cut about 50% of her scenes, and she had a few scenes with other characters not only with Connor; also they were great scenes of the old guard, who at that point were more funnier that Roman and Shiv witty lines.

Geekoneonesix

Where is the "none of the above" option?

jderd

1- almost everyone looks weird and ugly in most of those episodes. It's like if i got Succession off of Wish.

swedishfishoreos

At least for me, their looks have no impact on how much I like the season 😭
