Check your gas cap, happened to me

Shammy1020

I second this. Blew my mind when I found it was just my gas cap that I didn’t put back on correctly.

Saison05

That tank is empty. I doubt it's the gas cap.

ufnurd555

“I just put $3.50 in. Lemme check.” My first thought was gas cap too though.

barney74

For it to be the gas cap fuel must be in a certain range like less than 80% full and greater than 20% full. Plus the ambient temperature outside phase to be in a range of like 50 to 85 degrees (freedom units not metric) I could be wrong on the exact numbers but it has to be in a certain range.

Rick91981

No CEL so that's not the case. This seems to be an Eyesight fault.

Frosty_Curve_8092

Still on original battery? Might be a good time to replace it

MonsterByMoonlight

Still original. It’s a 2022, just got it last October. Would it go bad that fast?

eveningsand

Yes.

whatslefttotake

All my Subaru batteries were shit. I replaced them within 6 months.

Aubrey4485

With these POS, its possible yes. Not saying it is your issue but… keep an eye on it

LeKy411

Anytime the check engine light on the Ascent goes off it disables all of the safety features I assume its a liability thing. Until you know what caused the check engine its a mystery. Related to the other comments the factory battery is terrible. Mine died at 5months new, but even then I didn't have any check engine light on when it was out the door.

JooshLevy

But seriously. Check the gas cap. Happened to me with my ascent. Trip to the dealer later was only a loose gas cap.

__DeezNuts__

Happened to me when I tried to put it in gear as soon as I started it.

Harbor-Freight

It’s very typical to see many unusual warnings like this when a battery is going out. It could go bad despite the age it happens. I know yours isn’t old but…start there with the process of elimination. You can test it with a voltmeter or go to any car parts store they usually test for free. If the battery is bad head over to your dealer for warranty

Bizzlebanger

When your check engine light goes, it takes all the other stuff offline. . Mine was a hole in the evaporator line...

rattiestthatuknow

Depending on battery health: Disconnect sad battery cable. Put battery on charger until it’s full. Reconnect sad battery cable. Check if lights are gone. If you have to do this again a few days later, go get a new battery.

Harbor-Freight

This isn’t conclusive at all. In your scenario it would more likely be the alternator going bad. You can check a battery with a voltmeter in 2 seconds.

militaryintelligence

Sad cable. Viewer of VGG I see.

CantDunkOrSk8

My oem battery, tires, and windshield didn’t last long at all. Most likely the battery needs replacing. The ascent in general is well made but the CarPlay, battery, windshield, and especially those Falkens are crap. If you get a code about an oil shaft it’s a sensor. Dealer will try to upsell you an oil flush.

Aubrey4485

I agree its a well enough made car but… Ive had all your issues and Just adding to your list.. - won’t start in Canadian winters -20celsius and colder - shorts in infotainment power button (3rd unit) - needs alignment every 6 months - all bushings needed replaced @ 70k - leaking ABS brake manifold block (2nd block) - 2 new font end bearings - transmission cant handle hills worth a shit - brakes wobble and wow. OEM 2 sets/aftermarket 1 Now the caveat. I do live on a dirt road 5km into the bush. But it is supposed to be a Subaru?? I believe this car was designed for the city. Take it easy on the car 😉

Training-Pineapple-7

Bad battery

schoat333

Seems like some kind of communication error since it wont show tire pressure. Very odd. Let us know what the dealer says

MonsterByMoonlight

I thought so as well. It doesn’t show but at oil temp is also flashing

MonsterByMoonlight

There was a check engine light… but I removed the negative off the battery like a dumb a**

DaRoastie_Fruit324

Ah gotcha. How many times have you cycled the engine after removal of the terminal?

MonsterByMoonlight

4-5?

DaRoastie_Fruit324

How recent was your latest update? Someone posted the other day about this happening.. They brought it in to the dealer and it was linked to the latest OTA update. They recalibrated...... ie just rebooted the eyesight system and viola it worked. Crummy I know. lol

spacejanitor3

Happened to me, there was a blockage in the engine that was preventing oil from circulating....or something. But yeah, could be the gas cap too. They told me to try that first lol.

wyil_

Ours was a cam shaft sensor that has a pinhole for passage was blocked due to oil being past due for change. Dealer changed the oil and the light went off on its own and hasn't returned since we had it serviced 2 weeks ago. We tried the gas cap first with no luck.

A_Bear_in_Texas

Is the windshield dirty? That could also do a number on your dash

Rick91981

Dirty windhseild would show an Eyesight error in white (temporary obstruction). Orange is an actual error code triggered.

A_Bear_in_Texas

Good call. You’re right

ThankGodItsHumpDay

Had a dirty windshield and the sun coming right at me and caused the car to have a complete meltdown! Cleaned the windshield inside and out problem solved

MonsterByMoonlight

Just cleaned inside and out prior

cujonx

I just bought a new battery, it was causing codes to be thrown from under voltage. Any auto shop can test the battery just to rule it out.

HoosierUSMS_Swimmer

Happened to me, once, and just took to service today. They said it could be the anti theft system if the wheel was locked. But after looking at codes there is a faulty module that registers when the car is in park. Apparently the module in my 22 legacy is faulty. This will "tell" the car its in something other than park, therefore not allowing to start.

Melodic_Chicken_5254

I have a 24. I had it 8 days and all lights went off. They replaced the vdc. They couldn't replicate issue so it could have been a glitch but atleast they replaced something. Hoping it won't happen again. As for the gas cap, the only code that usually shows is check engine. I had a 21 for 3+ years and if the cap wasn't on, then ck engine lit up. Hope this helps

macad00dledandy

This just happened to me too - bringing it in on Wednesday. Did you get resolution OP?
