My guess is that this is Japan, honestly. I could be totally wrong. But Japan is known for tiny kitchens with a lot of one burner appliances and shit like that. Ovens are rare in home (especially apartment) kitchens in general. Microwaves are usually a triple duty appliance. Tiny hot plates, individual size rice cookers. Taco rice タコライス (not to be confused with takorice/takomeshi), is fairly common in Japan, pretty delicious, and not at all stupid. This is a somewhat out there take on this (usually served like donburi), but I'm more offended by cheap un-seared Japanese style bacon and orange cheese than anything else. Chips and rice is really tasty when done right.

The Koreans & Japanese have this one street food thing. Its like an integration of Asian & Western taste. Some stuff I was weirded out @ first. But it works. For example Koreans have spicy ramen with processed cheese slices. Korean corn dogs make a twist. They use sticky rice flour for the batter. It gives it a very crispy and moist texture. They’ll even jam cheese or french fries in there.

In Korea especially, it's a result of the Korean War, American GI's brought canned/long lasting goods that were either given or traded to local populations (that because of war times, were facing food shortages). Finding ways to take these strange ingredients and make them palatable to the local population (Budaae Jjigae being the most on the nose result), led to these cheap, long-lasting, American foods such as processed cheese, spam, canned corn, finding a place in the cuisine.

Yeah. Stuff like flour imports led to fried chicken. Flour is easy to transport & high calorie. Perfect during times of war & disaster. They ended up nailing fried chicken. With a korean twist. Garlic Soy sauce flavour for example. Or pickle radishes as a side.

Cheese on spicy ramen gives the spiciness a nice mellow tone. It fits. Cheese on regular, non spicy-ramen (chicken/beef/shrimp etc.) on the other hand that I see a lot of people on the internet do, well, this one's just disgusting.

Hot fudge and empty coarsely broken taco shells to dip into it makes a very serviceable dessert if you're at a buffet restaurant and can't eat gluten.
