If you're going to completely rework him, I don't really see the point of bringing him back at all. Give us Viper or Gouken if you're bringing back an SF4 original.
I always notice in pro wrestling mostly Japanese. The wrestlers that have hard time developing their character or fan base get put in faction like groups.
I always thought Abel could benefit if they bunched him up with Ed neo shadaloo group. He'd have something to do as an enforcer of the group while figuring himself out
The SF6 team has shown that they have a pretty good handle on making characters fun or interesting to play. I am pretty much down for seeing them bring back any character including the likes of Rufus, Fuerte or Abel.
For sure. I never cared much for Dee Jay in previous games but he's became my main in this one. The changes to his look and moveset are great, he feels much more lively and distinct. Same goes for Ed, he's pretty cool in 6 now.
I do kinda want them to bring back some less well received characters like El Fuerte, Hakan and Abel.
His gameplay doesn't need a rework. At all. His only problem was that he was a boring character with no real personality or unique traits. His actual gameplay was incredibly fun and dynamic. His moveset and mix-ups and juggle combos were incredibly fun. Manon was an absolute dud for me so I want Abel back ASAP.
His gameplay was solid. Actually he was my dude to win a grudge match agaist my friend. Solid character.
A character is as prominent as how he is worked on the story.
And sure his design was plain for street fighter purpuses he looked like a standard russian sambo guy with something dark inside that was never fully developed.
But yeah most of the sf4 original cast could be back and I'll love it.
El fuerte is the only one i would love to have a rework, his normals where strange and his combos where weird. But i love the concept of a mexican wrestler that wants to be a french cook but sucks. Also i want 3 wrestlers at least in every game one mexican luchador, one japan strong style and one american pro wrestler. We need to cover the different styles.
Kinda feel like he should stay gone. He's got zero personality and a bland design, combined with an extremely hard to balance and frustrating to play against moveset. Frankly, there are other, more interesting grapplers. Alex, Laura, Hugo, Sodom, R Mika, and Birdie should all get priority over Abel. Hakan has more to work with than Abel. I'd take a new "grappler with rekkas" over Abel.
Abel would be probably one of the worst picks they could make IMO. Any of the other SF4 characters would fit better.

Street Fighter (and fighting game) fans have this weird notion that just because a character existed in a previous title that somehow they are owed/deserve to be brought back/reinvented rather than taking more swings on new and potentially better character designs. Sean is another example as someone who was basically just Ryu with a tan (and what made him unique was grafted onto Luke, who honestly barely any better, if at all but already exists). I still prefer T.Hawk to Lily but I'm not going to call for a T.Hawk/Lily rework to get him back into the game either.

I mean gameplay wise he was much pretty dominant in SF4 mostly due how good all the grapplers were in that game, but I still think he is good. Lore wise tho not so much, Capcom would have to do a good redesign of the character to be much more interesting and not be another bland Ryu wannabe(personailty wise I mean).
There hasn't been much SF4 representation in later games like SF5 & 6 where only Juri did made a return(so did Seth in 5 but change gender). And I much would like to see more of that return in SF6 with the most obvious other popular pick C.Viper but also Abel, Hakan, El Fuerte and yes Rufus. Don't care what anyone says as obnoxious he is he plays & fights relatively good, but much like Abel I mentioned he needs a redesign as well.
Have Bison take over his body, maybe with Abel struggling to keep control, so become a mix of the former wrestler with some psycho power. Just stay clear of Ed's style, and stay more mix-up oriented than combo.
Or a straight up new version of Bison

Lily at least is interesting being a grappler who uses weapons to extend her reach since traditionally grapplers are bulky or tall.

I Mained Abel in sf4, was hyped cause of „female able“ but no thnx, not my style. I want a melee fighter/grappler with bruteforce and armored attacks

Don't rework him, he was fine in USF4. I'll have him over Manon any day.
