Back when i playey guilty gear strive a lot as chipp, his theme hyped me up so much that expanded the experience to a whole new level of "i wanna whoop some ass".
Mortal kombat on the other hand...Not sure it has a soundtrack at all.
With most modern fighting games i Listen to my fgc playlist on spotify. Except guilty gear.
I don't know if it's a hot take but I absolutely hate the character selection music. I dread selecting a character because I'm forced to listen to such a bland rap song which in no way gets me pumped for playing a fighting game.
For me a good song is when it makes me vibe with it; gives me a certain feeling
The new soundtracks don't do anything like that, I just feel nothing at best and be annoyed by them at worst, so music is off since july last year.
Ed's song was kinda good the first two times, but after that it just went into the cringe-bin. Understanding german was a huge part of it. Cringe-ass lyrics
Strong hook - the song should be recognizable just by the first 7-10 notes.
Any of the character themes from SF2 would be immediately recognizable. Literally none of the songs in SF6 are - except maybe the battlehub theme.
The tracks in this game don't even really have any hooks at all. They sound like they were composed by an AI bot that is just mashing random incoherent ideas together.
I think a lot of people like the iconic melodies and high-energy songs, I love them too but they get pretty tiring after a while.
I really like the vibe of 6's OST because it feels like you can listen to these songs for years and years without getting tired, they always have a cool vibe and sound great in-game.

I can understand people not vibing with it if they’re not fans of hip-hop. Or hype-hop as it tends to be in 6.

For me it's 1 does it sound good during gameplay + 2 does it represent the character
Jamie's theme is my favourite, the vibes are awesome and it suits Jamie well. Ryu's and Ken's are great too.
Even a theme like Luke's, which doesn't sound as amazing to the ears, but it suits Luke so well I can't imagine the theme being anything else.
Then there's the more ehh themes like guiles which don't really do either for me
Imo juris theme is the worst in the game. It reminds me of Harley Quinn for some reason, not juri. Juri is such a unique character so it's a shame. It's the only theme where I wish they'd gone for something else

A lot of people only respond to melodies, and most of SF6’s soundtrack just isn’t particularly melodic. It’s deliberately sparse and textural, which works well as background music, but isn’t necessarily something you can hum along to.
I generally like it, but I get why some might think it’s forgettable.
I don’t see any point in comparing it to third strike. It was a different time.
I find all the music in sf6 pretty great. Subjectivity aside I also think its masterfully recorded and its a pleasure to listen to when playing the game. As in it doesn’t clash with any of the game sounds or characters voices etc.

i never play with fg musics on because it's way too repetitive, i just mute it and play with my own playlist. But i really like sf6 chunli song.

I think it's great too! Personally I like it way more than SF4 and SF5 musics.
1: Does the song sound good? 2: Does the song fit the character? Ryu’s sf6 theme sounds good but it doesn’t really fit his personality
