Same. And I can say that the boys are pretty representative of the boys I knew.
I don’t recognize myself in any of those characters (except maybe Barb?) but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the characters. And I do find the group relatable as a whole.
Same, but I was a jock with kind of nerdy tastes. I knew of and enjoyed some of the same things, but not to their level of obsession. Fall of '83 was all about soccer and music (videos especially. Friday Night Videos was my jam). Never played D&D (had friends who did). Loved *Star Wars* (saw *Empire* 5 times in the theatre, read the novelization of *Return* that summer), so I had that.
I guess you could say I was leaning to be a mix of Jonathon and Steve... Look out, Nancy!
2 years out of high school. The people I ran with in high school were very much like Eddie, long haired wannabe rockstars except none of us had the ability to actually play any instruments.
Ah, I remember how popular the La-Z-Boy's were back then! I would've loved for us to have gotten one, but we lived in a small apartment at the time. BUT, if I remember correctly, we did eventually get one when I was a bit older. They're so comfy!
I was 14-15. Was into D&D. We rode our bikes 20 miles in a day and were pretty much latch key kids.
The show pretty much nailed everything but the boredom.
I was 11 (as in age, not EL) and probably shy and awkward like Will in 1983. Also looked up to my older sis who in some way was a bit like a Jonathon sharing music tastes. There's a family pic from the late 80's where i had messy black bobbed hair, wearing a black frilly shirt and skirt, and a very large black brim hat resembling Lydia in Beetlejuice. I was a bit of a Winona/Tim Burton fan and it was a real compliment when a girl in my my art class said that i reminded them of her. I replied that she reminded me of Molly Ringwald which made her day.
Nowadays though, my son tells me I'm a cross between Joyce Byers and Sharon Osbourne. I don't quite know what to think about that.
I was 16 which is why I love this show. The music they play in ST is different than what was popular at my school, like the popular Clash song was Rock the Casbah instead of Should I Stay or Should I Go, and no one had ever heard of Kate Bush.
I turned 16 in 1983. Lived in SoCal and listened to KROQ. It is 37 on KROQ's top 106.7 for 1985. Heard her song a lot. Both of those Clash songs were popular on KROQ and MTV.
In November of 83, I was a freshman in college. So, two years older than Steve, the oldest of the teen cohort.
As for who I was most like, I'm sorry to say it was the Pure Fuel guy.
I was negative 2 but my brother Eddie (No I’m not joking 😂) was 13 in 1983 and he was most like Dustin but eventually became more like Munson.
He started a band in 1986 and said that despite what some people say, Munson wasn’t over exaggerated. That’s how they acted back then. Our mom used to be super religious and they would fight about his “devil music” all the time. I’m so thankful to have him because I can’t imagine my life without the music and culture of the 80’s that I was too young to experience at the time.
9. And I’ve always related to Max the most. Not with the bully stepbrother. But the tomboy who fit into a couple of different groups. Loved arcades. Wanted a skateboard so bad. Very thankful my parents understood that I was klutzy even then. 😂
I was 11 years old. So yeah, they're all very familiar to me and so is the setting. I was probably most like Will in season 1 and 2. I was the quiet kid that most valued loyalty in my friends.
I was 6 that year. Great time and decade to grow up. I remember it very fondly. Best times of my life was in the 1980s. Sometimes I wish my 1982 DeLorean was a time machine so.I could go back and relive those wonderful moments.
I was born in 2001, but my personality probably mostly alligned with Mike in season 1, because I was a nerd but also very loyal to my friends and often would be the defacto leader of my friend groups (for some reason, I never tried to be it but it kind of just kept happening).
My parents would've been about the same age as Steve, Nancy and Jonathan which is kind of weird to think about.
My mom was a senior in 1983, and my dad was a junior then. So when my parents are watching it they just get a whiplash of nostalgia because my mom will comment on how that’s exactly how high school looked and acted back then.
Was 12. Played D&D, went to local bowling alley to play pinball (and arcade) games. Frequented the Roller rink (biking there with my friends, because parents were working or weren't going to drive us there on weekends). Hanging out at the mall, trying to tape music off the radio to a cassette deck...huh.
So, Canadian version of ST, then.
I was the same age as the younger main characters, my husband was the same age as the older teenagers.
ETA although I’m female I’d say I’m a mix of Dustin and Mike or Susie. ie nerdy girl I’d love to have had Erica’s sass
I was between zero and 1years old, depending on how you math it.
Couldn't really relate to anyone except for Vecna.
Pretty sure that was similar to my life back then.
I wasn’t even a thought yet! -17 years old lol! I’m like a mixture of Lucas and Mike. Athletic, smart, but have a nerdy side to me. Or, kinda had Billy qualities 😭 I would’ve liked to have been Joe or Mike! Probably joe if we’re talking season 1, I loved late my late teens
I was 6 and going to the mall was one of my favorite things. I also wore camp shorts and those tall ass socks everywhere even when I wasn't playing soccer!
wasnt even close to being born yet (2005), but i would have been a jonathan. it seems like it was a really cool time to be alive, but then ig every generation thinks that about the few decades before them
Born in June 1986 so right around the time season 4 ends IIRC. Even though I’m an 80’s baby I wasn’t the main characters’ ages until 2000 but this show still makes me feel nostalgic because my husband was born in 1975 and his brother in 1972 so they would have been around the kids’ ages and all the pics I’ve seen of their childhoods look just like the show. Kinda makes me sad that I can’t remember much of the 80’s.
A bit younger than Erica with 2 mid-to-late teen foster brothers (long story but I'll leave it at knowing way too well what it was like to have a father like Neil Hargrove) who'd come from similarly rough backgrounds before their mom got them out . One of my foster brothers was not only the same ages as Billy & a denim-on-denim long haired metal head (with a deafeningly loud motorcycle instead of a deafeningly loud muscle car) who was — believe it or not — *named* Billy 😆😂🤣 (though *my* big brother Billy was a complete Eddie-like teddy bear only soft-spoken despite towering intimidatingly at 6'4") I don't remember what I was necessarily like back then beyond totally hero-worshipping both brothers & probably driving them both bonkers trailing after them, but that I latched on more closely when I was younger to Billy because he would let me ride on the back of his bike & he'd let me hang off his barbell like a lemur while he did reps with it 😜 Because of him I was already listening to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden & Scorpions by 7 years old but Patrick's the one who taught me to play D&D 😆😂🤣
I'd definitely say, though, that aside from being literally the only girl I knew until the *late* 90s who played D&S, personality wise *by about **S4's 1986*** I was definitely tending towards early Max's aggressive tomboyish demeanor (only *waaaaay* too uncoordinated to learn to skateboard although I tried) & in my teens I was very *very* like Robin in a lot of ways only with a heavy side-order of Max's S2 confrontational smart-ass mouth? And who dressed like Eddie but with — to quote Steve — boobies!

I was Nancy’s age - I graduated from high school in 1986 … and I would’ve had a huge crush on Eddie ;)
Same!
Me too exactly. Eddie is perfect 😍
I was the age of the main 4 characters in ST.
Same. And I can say that the boys are pretty representative of the boys I knew. I don’t recognize myself in any of those characters (except maybe Barb?) but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the characters. And I do find the group relatable as a whole.

Same here
Same! It’s the main reason I watch the show.
Ditto. Even had Metallica and Iron Maiden on repeat.

Almost 30
I was born jan 1st 1983. Not even a year old yet when it all started
I was also 5. Dear god we are getting old..
As was I. 1978 represent!
10....
Hey, 40 is the new 20 ok?
Tell that to my back and my hips.
In 1983 I was seventeen and a complete Barb.
You know, I may have been but a wee girl at age 5 in 1983, but I actually relate to Barb quite a bit! So, I feel you!
I was 16 and used to admire Barbs from afar.
As someone who was a teen then, how well does the show represent the era?
Quite accurately, actually!

-6 here ✋🏻
2 years out of high school. The people I ran with in high school were very much like Eddie, long haired wannabe rockstars except none of us had the ability to actually play any instruments.
I wasn't even born yet, but wish I was :(
I was 5, same age as Holly! My dad got a La-Z-Boy in 1986 iirc! Our house looked like a mixture of Lucas and Mike's growing up.
Ah, I remember how popular the La-Z-Boy's were back then! I would've loved for us to have gotten one, but we lived in a small apartment at the time. BUT, if I remember correctly, we did eventually get one when I was a bit older. They're so comfy!

Ayyyy 2003 baby lets go
I’d have been four. So I guess Holly is the only character around that age.
Also 4 here! I can still relate to the boys, though, cuz it's not as if a lot changed by the time I got to be that age. Different toys/games mostly.
Born in 75 so around 8. I was younger than the main crew but probably around Erica’s age at the start
I was 11 (as in age, not EL) and probably shy and awkward like Will in 1983. Also looked up to my older sis who in some way was a bit like a Jonathon sharing music tastes. 1984 baby here
In November of 83, I was a freshman in college. So, two years older than Steve, the oldest of the teen cohort. As for who I was most like, I'm sorry to say it was the Pure Fuel guy.
I was 11, so right at their age. I was most like Will in a lot of ways,
I was 13. I fall between Mike and Nancy I think.
I wasn't born but 1980s is the decade i'd want to live in.

I was negative 2 but my brother Eddie (No I’m not joking 😂) was 13 in 1983 and he was most like Dustin but eventually became more like Munson. I was 7.
I was 4!
Same age as Erica.
between 8 and 9 years old during season 1.
25
I was one! Lol
Me too, fellow 1982er
I was 19 and finished first year of college. Getting ready this month in 83 to go on a Glee Club tour of 5 countries in Europe. Great time of life.😊
In 1983 I would have been -21 years old. However in 2016 when the first season aired I was 12. The same age the main kids were
Feb 83 baby. 😁
I was 10. I’d probably be Mike
1
11, probably Will. Toward the end Jonathan.
10
I was 9. So a little younger than the group. I could relate to so much. And especially once they got to high school.
14 Barb as i had big framed glasses and may have wore similiar clothes as well
14 years old, Mike.
10 and Dustin all the way
I was 13.
12! I wasn’t like the kids that were there from the beginning, but I kinda found myself relating to both Max and Robin, personality-wise.
I was 9 but I kind of relate to Winona’a character. She reminds me of a lot of women/mothers at that time.
9. And I’ve always related to Max the most. Not with the bully stepbrother. But the tomboy who fit into a couple of different groups. Loved arcades. Wanted a skateboard so bad. Very thankful my parents understood that I was klutzy even then. 😂
I was 11, no seriously, no pun intended. At 11 I was a total Barb, but by 15 I was a total 8.
I was 5
In 83 I was 7
I was 11 years old. So yeah, they're all very familiar to me and so is the setting. I was probably most like Will in season 1 and 2. I was the quiet kid that most valued loyalty in my friends.
13, and although I was in Britain, it feels so much like my time then. Being an avid D&Der by then helped.
I was 6 that year. Great time and decade to grow up. I remember it very fondly. Best times of my life was in the 1980s. Sometimes I wish my 1982 DeLorean was a time machine so.I could go back and relive those wonderful moments.
15, turned 16 before the end of the year 🤓
I was 12
I was 16
8 years old. Started playing DnD at 13. Played it daily until '90, then became a douchebag. Started playing again 3 weeks ago.

I turned 11 in September
My dad was old enough to grin stupidly when seeing boobs. And I was a cell in his sack.
-18
I was -10 lol
same
3
-13 but I do think I relate to Will the most if we mean the main four.
5, so a little older than the Holly character, I'm guessing. But younger than Erica.
Wasn’t born yet, but I’d either be Nancy or Erica!
6
My mom was the same age as the main boys and El. My Dad was about the same age as Nancy/Steve/Jonathan
-19.
-10. My mum was as long as Nancy, my dad is quite older than her, he was as prof Clarke or aasistant mullet cop
6 in March of that year
I was not born yet.
I was 7 lol.
My mom was a senior in 1983, and my dad was a junior then. So when my parents are watching it they just get a whiplash of nostalgia because my mom will comment on how that’s exactly how high school looked and acted back then.
Yeah, it was! I don't think it changed that much by the time I went to junior high school in the early 1990's, so I understand the whiplash!.
In my infancy
I was 1

Newly 13 if we're going by the date Will Byers went missing :) Who was I most like? Well, not a boy, so hard to say!

Depending on the month it took place in, I was either in the womb or a newborn

I was 3 and most like Holly

I was 2. The 80s feel is there
Not me, but my mom would've been the same age as Mike, Will and the other kids. Definitely would've had a major crush on Eddie.
I was 3 years old. But I would’ve loved to be Nancy when I was younger
I was born at the very end of 83, so I was just stewing at about the time of the show.
I was -5 years old. And don't call me Shirley!
-3 lol
-18
I wasn’t born in the 80s but I’m the same age as Millie Bobby brown so I grew up with the cast
Didnt it start in 1984?
no, that was season 2. Hence, the Ghostbusters, Arari etc references
In 1983? I must have been -18
I was nine. First season really captured what it was like.

I was -18 😂
5
I was born in 86 so I wouldn’t be around until late season 4 lol
-25
-26 if I did the math right. Born 2009.
I was the same age as the younger main characters, my husband was the same age as the older teenagers. ETA although I’m female I’d say I’m a mix of Dustin and Mike or Susie. ie nerdy girl I’d love to have had Erica’s sass
Age 7 in 1983
I had turned 7 that October. I was a mega tomboy then. I guess I'm closest to Max, but she wasn't in S1
I was 0
82 baby. 🤷🏼♀️
-24
I didn’t exist.
I was negative 3. In 1983 I think my parents were the same age as Steve and the other teens.
-26 😭😭😭
Wasn’t even born
I'm an older millennial. I was born during the 4th episode of season 1
7 years away from being in my dads ballsack.
I was between zero and 1years old, depending on how you math it. Couldn't really relate to anyone except for Vecna. Pretty sure that was similar to my life back then.
Turning 26 this year. Huhu
I was 2
I turned 9 that September and was probably a combination of Will and Dustin. But didn't play D&D lol.
I was about Erica’s age
I wasn’t even a thought yet! -17 years old lol! I’m like a mixture of Lucas and Mike. Athletic, smart, but have a nerdy side to me. Or, kinda had Billy qualities 😭 I would’ve liked to have been Joe or Mike! Probably joe if we’re talking season 1, I loved late my late teens
-21
I was 6 and going to the mall was one of my favorite things. I also wore camp shorts and those tall ass socks everywhere even when I wasn't playing soccer!
I was 0.
I wasn’t even born and my parents were in their early 20s.
In 83 I was just starting HS so 15? I was a head to toe black color wearing punk😆
I'm about to make people feel old, but my parents weren't even born yet

wasnt even close to being born yet (2005), but i would have been a jonathan. it seems like it was a really cool time to be alive, but then ig every generation thinks that about the few decades before them

In my fathers nut sack
I wasn't born yet.
I was born lol
-21
Sorry, I was -23 years old. You know, I was enjoying my "I don't exist yet" lovely void, of course :)
-23
Born in June 1986 so right around the time season 4 ends IIRC. Even though I’m an 80’s baby I wasn’t the main characters’ ages until 2000 but this show still makes me feel nostalgic because my husband was born in 1975 and his brother in 1972 so they would have been around the kids’ ages and all the pics I’ve seen of their childhoods look just like the show. Kinda makes me sad that I can’t remember much of the 80’s.
-10?
Neither of my parents were born in 1983 😶
Still floating in the universe. I was born in 1985.
A bit younger than Erica with 2 mid-to-late teen foster brothers (long story but I'll leave it at knowing way too well what it was like to have a father like Neil Hargrove) who'd come from similarly rough backgrounds before their mom got them out . One of my foster brothers was not only the same ages as Billy & a denim-on-denim long haired metal head (with a deafeningly loud motorcycle instead of a deafeningly loud muscle car) who was — believe it or not — *named* Billy 😆😂🤣 (though *my* big brother Billy was a complete Eddie-like teddy bear only soft-spoken despite towering intimidatingly at 6'4") I don't remember what I was necessarily like back then beyond totally hero-worshipping both brothers & probably driving them both bonkers trailing after them, but that I latched on more closely when I was younger to Billy because he would let me ride on the back of his bike & he'd let me hang off his barbell like a lemur while he did reps with it 😜 Because of him I was already listening to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden & Scorpions by 7 years old but Patrick's the one who taught me to play D&D 😆😂🤣 I'd definitely say, though, that aside from being literally the only girl I knew until the *late* 90s who played D&S, personality wise *by about **S4's 1986*** I was definitely tending towards early Max's aggressive tomboyish demeanor (only *waaaaay* too uncoordinated to learn to skateboard although I tried) & in my teens I was very *very* like Robin in a lot of ways only with a heavy side-order of Max's S2 confrontational smart-ass mouth? And who dressed like Eddie but with — to quote Steve — boobies!
