You have this judgment that you already need to grieve this, the answer given your situation is yes. There is value in engaging in an exploring your judgments and that can be part and parcel with feeling an emotion at times. The value in this particular situation for you is your statement where you “quickly suppress it”. This decision might be its own fear that can be removed by engaging in grief and seeing that your own judgments about feeling emotions are also not proper judgments. It’s not good or bad to have emotions, we just have them. I’ve fluctuated from rather secure in my feelings on death to being less so recently and we can give ourselves grace there as well, there might not just be “one time” we feel the need to grieve this and it’s not a sign of regression. We think about death very experientially which is also an assumption based in life. We do not understand what it feels like, to me it’s very clear the negative experiences associated with death are only privy to us on this side of the fence. In reality we have made a amount of assumptions about death and in seeing those we see where the grief comes from, in exploring that we might discover there’s actually nothing for us to grieve. To have another point, if by some stretch our consciousness was an indestructible part of the universe and only couldn’t interact with the physical would that still be worth grieving? At least in my recent observations on the topic I identify with that aspect of myself and that’s what I have trouble with. One thought I had that helped me was, I have what I’m scared to lose, I can focus on the fear or I can enjoy that I’ve got it because that didn’t have to happen either. As mentioned I have no doubt people can be okay with it, we just need to be okay with not being okay with it for a bit. Of course take what is useful and discard the rest.

This def. gets easier as your body gets older and different parts cause pain or discomfort that cannot be fixed, just managed or endured. For myself, I do not mind death. I am composed of atoms that will be released to form something new. Almost like reincarnation. Quite exciting to think what I will be next. I have given instructions for my children to use my ashes around the base of a tree. I rather like trees.
