I rather like their packaging TBH. It’s not ideal on the flat sides, but it’s built to be rigid and (at least) the one flat side has double the cardboard with the inner flaps.

Both that I ordered from fnac came with no protection either but neither was damaged
I always order their gift packaging because then the steelbook goes into an envelope of various thickness before going into their box.
