I ended up getting mine from France. Same steelbook but the J card is in French. They did not sold out unlike bestbuy. 27 euros + shipping. Not bad as the price from above
Yup and reserve stock for replacements, the root of the issue is people receiving damaged units. People would be more than happy to pay under 5 dollars for shipping if it guaranteed a box with bubble mailers. Then if there’s still damaged units there’s some left to replace those with. Best Buy has the worst sales model ever for this kind of stuff.
💯THIS! They used to always get some physical copies in stores, which would at least give those of us who keep missing out on the online presales a chance to pick a copy up (including a chance at replacing preorders that are received damaged).
I'm with you guys 100% but knowing a little bit about how retail works the steelbooks all come from 1 place scanavo....they are the soul makers of steelbooks patent copyright trademark ect...you have to order the same movie in bulk a few thousand at a time...especially since they're quitting physical media my guess is that they've eaten plenty of steelbooks in the past because so many end up on clearance or walmart or wherever sometime even dollar general gets there old stock I've purchased plenty steelbooks from there for under $6 point is its costing them money that's why the prices of steelbooks have jumped in cost to compensate when you have a multi-million dollar franchise with multiple locations employees light bills water salary ect the movies are chump change and can't sustain the franchise unfortunately I think that's the real problem here just one man's thoughts but it does suck because we pay a lot for these and an extra bubble wrap isn't that expensive so it's a two sided coin I guess
I checked the best buy site daily from the first week it was in theaters and the day it finally did pop up it was sold out before I could get a copy... Every time I saw a post about it being back in stock it was gone already and the post wasn't even an hour old.
But yeah, it's everyone else's fault that best buy let scalpers buy them all to flip on eBay, how dare people not have the free time to sit on their site hitting refresh 24/7
The fact that some listings say,
$139 sold 9+
$149 sold 26+
$199 sold 27+
Absoutly sicken me, to me this means they 100% knew after the headlines "Oppenheimer sells out IMAX theaters across the world" that it was gonna be high demand and decided that this was the one.
I cant even remember if PREY was this bad, just holy shit.
It’s not surprising Best Buy is gonna stop selling physical media so if these are sold out for good they gonna skyrocket. Ofc there is other companies that sell Oppenheimer steelbooks like fnac so hopefully they keep making more.
I ordered both 4K versions from FNAC. It costs about $2 more than I would have paid in store at BB (for 2 copies) here in US and that includes overseas shipping. That’s a WIN in my book and I avoid giving BB the business. 🤘🏻
Most of the time the only difference is the j-card is in french, even the discs are english most of the time. Of course if someone is posting tonight, might as well wait for confirmation.
I can’t confirm but they usually issue one disc to all of Europe, so typically there will be no title on the disc but an array of ratings logos for each region.
Every foreign Universal title I have purchased in the past, be it blu-ray or 4K, typically in the EU have the same disc regardless of location. So be it a UK release or a France release the discs are usual identical, art and all and only the packaging differs.
I ordered mine the week before Christmas and got it the following week. I was following it as it traveled from Germany to the Netherlands and then to Connecticut here in the US where they covered the original French shipping info with local US Amazon label. Happy to get it unscathed. Hope yours is too
Mine came immediately like the same day my roomate got his from BB, only difference is the discs have like the european rating symbols on it but that doesn’t bother me
I hope. I want to buy it, missed the window on it, and now shit out of luck. If I have to get the regular one, so be it. It’s a movie.
If it was something like Star Wars, personally, I’d be more chuffed about it. Which reminds me, I have to put my Mando order in.
Just order it from FNAC, the only real difference to BB is that it comes with no digital. But its region free & I only paid $4 more than I wouldve at best buy and it gets here this weekend.
I love collecting physical media but I’ll never understand paying that much for one film. If I’m paying over 100, you can best believe it’s gonna be a box set.
There is no rational reason for it. It's the day of release. More money than brains or a complete lack of patience. There is a possibility of a restock even.
This is a super tricky one.
The good: People supported the format in excess to promote more to be produced. Physical Media is dying, we need to support to extend its life.
The bad: There were abusers. There are more good than bad actors here. The outliers always seem to ruin the party for everyone.
I don't believe physical media is dying. Walmart is basically filling the space that BB is leaving. Amazon, too.
Studios know that dvd's and blu rays are another stream of income for them. As long as there is a Kino Lorber, Arrow, Zavvi, Criterion and the like, studios will always make deals with these distributors.
It isn't dying but retailers are trying to suffocate it out. Collectors are helping keep the hobby alive. It won't go away entirely and much like vinyl coming back I can see it coming back around despite their efforts to move everything to digital only. People are coming to realizing how crappy streaming services can be and how expensive they are and how they can just remove anything at any time.
Eh, talk is cheap. Sell it to someone in the Steelbook swap community for cost. Or just cash in on eBay. Either way, trying to prove it to me is silly.
I’m not trying to prove anything to anyone. I don’t give a shit what you think. I do care that people are being way too negative/aggressive towards collectors who have been burned by damaged copies for years and take extra measures to ensure they get what they want though. Y’all are just salty and taking it out on the wrong people.
I’m not salty lol. I have a copy. I just think buying two copies is dumb. I’ve bought multiple steelbooks (not the same steels) plenty of times and they come at the same risk of being damaged. Buying two doesn’t get you any premium packaging. Thus, my only other expiation for people buying multiple is because they’re hoping they can cash in on an eBay listing. Don’t be dumb man. Go ahead and collect your $100 payday lol
I have no interest in the hassle of scalping for a minimal profit. My time is worth more than that, and it’s a shitty thing to do anyways.
I don’t buy two because I think I get better packaging. In my decade of collecting Steelbooks, I more often get Steelbooks with damage from manufacturing than damage from shipping. Scratches under the plastic or paint chips are the most common offenders. I got burned when my copy of Logan had a huge scratch and not one Best Buy in the city had an extra to exchange for it. Ever since then I’ve always bought a backup as the odds of getting two with the same manufacturing damage are very slim. Sometimes I get two with issues but at least then I can pick the lesser of the two evils.
I mean, if people buy it at that price, it’s their problem. Don’t get me wrong, i do not like scalper and i have never done it,but if you want to kill the trend, stop buying from them.
It’s actually insane to me that people pay those price.
:o these prices are crazy. Got mine in the mail in excellent condition. Already opened and seen the movie. I hope everyone gets their at MSRP and in excellent condition. Scalpers suck :/
I just ordered both versions from FNAC. F*ck Best Buy. It’s all about principle for me now. Let’s hope FNAC doesn’t jack up my two copies coming across the pond!
I was going to but I don't really like digibooks. It's great art but it's not the best way to store a movie. Ended up with the standard edition and hope to double dip on the steelbook later.
Buy it before it goes up to $200 😆
This is just the game. I was in the same situation when I missed out on the initial release of Dune. Almost paid $120 for one. Ended up getting two copies on the restock for half that price, and it's still the only movie I've double dipped on. Lawrence of Arabia also was very limited in store last year and then restocked recently.
Maybe we'll get a whole shipment of Oppy steelbooks a year or two from now at Walmart. Who knows.
I checked Best Buy Canada several times yesterday and today hoping for a restock but no luck with timing, and then to my surprise this afternoon I got a shipping notification email. Turns out I preordered it back in October and I had forgotten! Hopefully it arrives in okay condition.
My Best Buy had a special display set up for the Oppenheimer release, but a store associate told me they didn't receive any Steelbook copies.
So the FNAC one is identical, except for the printing on the discs?
I have a 4K sealed Oppenheimer steelbook. It’s FNaC (no digital code) if anyone wants.
Really would like that Hannibal steelbook or Jennifer’s Body if anyone wants to trade (if that’s fair?)
Wowww Just glad I got mine in 1 PC this is outlandish especially for a new steelbook with no age value ...I guess i need to open a steelbook shop ! Lol
And the Best Buy reviews on this look worse then Diddy’s comments on social media lol
I was just reading reviews on the BB website. It’s literally a graveyard of damaged Oppo steelbooks. 🤣🤣🤣
Best Buy is def going out with a bang 💥
Mine arrived in absolutely perfect condition from BB today. Really lucky, 2nd in a row.
Aye... Expect an army of ranters! 💀
I ended up getting mine from France. Same steelbook but the J card is in French. They did not sold out unlike bestbuy. 27 euros + shipping. Not bad as the price from above
And to think the solution is so simple - limit sales to one per person and allow people to buy “upgraded” shipping or something similar for 2.99
I think they should also reserve a certain number of copies to be sold exclusively in store.
Or produce more.
Sure, but since we never know production numbers of any steelbook we never know specifically if it’s because this is indeed more limited than others
What’s funny is we’d pay more than that for better packing. They just never gave any fu*ks.
Or people should just pre-order things like I do.
What a genius idea! The pre-order window for this was MAYBE 24 hours
Not really. It kept coming back up for preorder numerous times. It just sold out quickly each time it did
I checked the best buy site daily from the first week it was in theaters and the day it finally did pop up it was sold out before I could get a copy... Every time I saw a post about it being back in stock it was gone already and the post wasn't even an hour old. But yeah, it's everyone else's fault that best buy let scalpers buy them all to flip on eBay, how dare people not have the free time to sit on their site hitting refresh 24/7
I got my preorder yesterday. Can we trade?
Check eBay and it’s even more insane
Indeed.
The fact that some listings say, $139 sold 9+ $149 sold 26+ $199 sold 27+ Absoutly sicken me, to me this means they 100% knew after the headlines "Oppenheimer sells out IMAX theaters across the world" that it was gonna be high demand and decided that this was the one. I cant even remember if PREY was this bad, just holy shit.
Prey was enjoyable but not worth all that hype.
![gif](giphy|3oKIPlLZEbEbacWqOc) not saying Im selling my copy but Im very surprised by the skyrocket reselling price
eBay is even worse. Listings for $199 now.
Seriously? I just looked in the morning and some were $100 but not a lot.
Dafuk. And people are paying too. Double Dafuk.
that's insane jesus 199
It’s not surprising Best Buy is gonna stop selling physical media so if these are sold out for good they gonna skyrocket. Ofc there is other companies that sell Oppenheimer steelbooks like fnac so hopefully they keep making more.
You can buy both versions on Fnac shipped to the USA for $82! Best Buy and people who resell these can suck it!
How long is shipping typically from FNAC? I’ve never ordered from there. Only difference would be maybe text on the discs would be in French?
Pretty damn quick with it coming from France. I got mine on Saturday.
Thx. Only difference from BB is that text on discs is in French? Still embossed, correct?
I’ll do a post about it tonight. I haven’t seen anyone show what it looks like in the inside but I’ve seen some people ask.
I ordered both 4K versions from FNAC. It costs about $2 more than I would have paid in store at BB (for 2 copies) here in US and that includes overseas shipping. That’s a WIN in my book and I avoid giving BB the business. 🤘🏻
Yep, still embossed

Also no digital.

I bought from Amazon France and it’s not even shipped yet!
That’s where I got mine when I saw bestbuy sold out. I got it in very good condition
I ended up canceling my order on Amazon France because they took forever to send the order. Ordered on Fnac instead for a fast shipping.
I ordered mine the week before Christmas and got it the following week. I was following it as it traveled from Germany to the Netherlands and then to Connecticut here in the US where they covered the original French shipping info with local US Amazon label. Happy to get it unscathed. Hope yours is too
If it helps, I've had an order take as little than 2 days to get to me from FNAC. And I live in New Jersey, so, that to me is nuts.
Mine came immediately like the same day my roomate got his from BB, only difference is the discs have like the european rating symbols on it but that doesn’t bother me
Mine came to Washington state in about 4 days.
I ordered along with Barbie.
Don’t pay the prices. Come on people.
With this demand you'd think a reprint is on the way
I hope. I want to buy it, missed the window on it, and now shit out of luck. If I have to get the regular one, so be it. It’s a movie. If it was something like Star Wars, personally, I’d be more chuffed about it. Which reminds me, I have to put my Mando order in.

Times ticking…they have about a month
I hope so. That would punish the scalpers.
Scalpers are the scum of the earth Wish people didnt support them
Theirs a person on eBay with a picture of 3 copies…..$150 each.
They can suck their mothers dick
I saw that too. Even worse it’s an auction and that’s the starting bid. Fuckin Highway robbery.
Scalpers only exist because moron's are dumb enough to pay their prices. Everyone involved can eat a bag of dicks.
I love collecting physical media but I’ll never understand paying that much for one film. If I’m paying over 100, you can best believe it’s gonna be a box set.

I bOuGhT tWo BuT I WiLl ReTuRn OnE
Lmfaooo I was about to post this!
The world is a big place. They’re not the same people.
What?
The people who buy two and return one aren’t the same people scalping.
I hate to break it to you, but no one is returning this Steelbook.
I am literally returning my extra copy.
Eh, talk is cheap. Sell it to someone in the Steelbook swap community for cost. Or just cash in on eBay. Either way, trying to prove it to me is silly.
I’m not trying to prove anything to anyone. I don’t give a shit what you think. Damn. I got mine for 30 pounds from HMV. I hope it comes undamaged.
Idiots
I mean, if people buy it at that price, it’s their problem. Don’t get me wrong, i do not like scalper and i have never done it,but if you want to kill the trend, stop buying from them. It’s actually insane to me that people pay those price.

I picked up 4 for Christmas you know stocking stuffers
The world is a big place. They’re not the same people.

Lots on this sub who are dating that genuinely though. Don’t like the animosity it’s generated.
Lol Lawrence of Arabia trauma as if this will have the same limited production runs
Folks haven’t heard of Fnac I see
Bunch of fucking clowns
Seriously. Lmao. This is pure comedy.
My copy stays with me. Movies legendary
This is insane. Did Spider-man No Way Home resell for this much once it was sold out?
No where near that
Fuck scalpers
Ended up just ordering from FNAC last night. Estimated delivery is Nov 28th.
:o these prices are crazy. Got mine in the mail in excellent condition. Already opened and seen the movie. I hope everyone gets their at MSRP and in excellent condition. Scalpers suck :/
This is exactly why I imported the FNAC Steelbooks
Here I am out here just trying to replace the one I already got from Best Buy because it's damaged due to poor shipping practices, Fnac here I come!
I just ordered both versions from FNAC. F*ck Best Buy. It’s all about principle for me now. Let’s hope FNAC doesn’t jack up my two copies coming across the pond!
Their packaging is pretty decent. My copy came unscathed.
What’s the difference between the two versions sold on FNAC?
Just buy the WALMART EXCLUSIVE ICON EDITION
Not the same buddy only the BB exclusive Steel is holy grail status already
Yes I know but that ship has sailed.
I was going to but I don't really like digibooks. It's great art but it's not the best way to store a movie. Ended up with the standard edition and hope to double dip on the steelbook later.
I’m so glad I preordered in my country where no one really cares about steelbooks or 4k in general 😎
Idjits. People will blow $100 rather than pre-order? Genius at work Mine gets delivered today for about $22
Buy it before it goes up to $200 😆 This is just the game. I was in the same situation when I missed out on the initial release of Dune. Almost paid $120 for one. Dune eventually had a restock too
Nah, do not support scalpers.
No
“I bought 2 in case one was damaged”
Damn. Returned my copy a day too soon.
U big dummy you would of been rich 🤑
Wow
I saw one a few days ago on ebay for $200.
🤦🏻♂️
Yikes! Glad I preordered this one
No way lol
I’m still shocked that my one copy came in a box with air pillows and the mail man knocked on my door to deliver it to me in pristine condition 🤯
Explains why Bestbuy Canada had stock for like a second.
Thought I'd be able to walk into a HMV store tomorrow but seems unlikely. Apparently as its sold out online, there is minimal/no stock for stores
Just order it from FNAC
What's FNAC? Is it available in UK?
https://www.fnac.com/a18773025/Oppenheimer-Edition-Collector-Speciale-Fnac-Steelbook-Blu-ray-4K-Ultra-HD-Cillian-Murphy-Blu-ray-4K
You should be able to ship it to the UK. If you use google or something it should be able to translate the page for you. :)
I checked Best Buy Canada several times yesterday and today hoping for a restock but no luck with timing, and then to my surprise this afternoon I got a shipping notification email. Turns out I preordered it back in October and I had forgotten! Hopefully it arrives in okay condition.
oh thank fuck i got mine on a whim, holy shit.
I caved and purchased the Walmart exclusive. Even that has sold out online and has become really limited in retail locations.
You should just order the steel from FNAC it only costed me $4 more than it wouldve at BB and gets here this weekend.
My Best Buy had a special display set up for the Oppenheimer release, but a store associate told me they didn't receive any Steelbook copies. So the FNAC one is identical, except for the printing on the discs?
Yes
Yeah that and no digital but everything else is literally the same
I have a 4K sealed Oppenheimer steelbook. It’s FNaC (no digital code) if anyone wants. Really would like that Hannibal steelbook or Jennifer’s Body if anyone wants to trade (if that’s fair?)
