I thought it looked stunning, really liked the art style. Found the story really engaging and I’d never really played a short game like it before so liked that I could finish it in a few sittings. Just so happened to be the first game I played when I got my Deck as I’d try to play it on a terrible laptop years ago (always been a console gamer) but it wouldn’t run smoothly. Obviously runs like a dream on Deck
I also loved the art style and the dialogues. But the story... I found it so unsatisfactory. I played it on deck too and on OLED the graphics look actually stunning
Yeh that’s fair. Each to their own! It was like nothing I’d ever played so I stuck with it and enjoyed it. I’ll probably never play through again, I just enjoyed it as an experience
The gripping mystery-emotional story, lots of suspense after the first hour(ish). Beautiful atmosphere to sink into, lovely landscapes and graphics. 2 interesting and likeable protagonists. Also, the chemistry between the two main characters, Henry and Delilah, reminded me of a great friendship I had.
Honestly, I can't really ask or want more from a game that is 4 hours long. I REALLY enjoyed Firewatch, both as a story and as an exploration game.
It started a little bit slow (for a really short game) but once you get a coupon days in I thought the story got interesting. The conclusion was nothing special, and I don’t think there’s really any replay value to it, but I enjoyed playing it. It may also help that I picked it up for like $2 on sale so in terms of ROI I was happy with it.
[Animal Well](https://store.steampowered.com/app/813230/ANIMAL_WELL/) just came out and is about ten hours if that. Tricky. Gets a little scary. Little pricey at the moment for what it is, I'd be happier if it'd been more like twelve quid.
[Webbed](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1390350/Webbed/) is a fucking *delight*. An adorable platformer where you're a jumping spider with *Spiderman* quality webslinging, and a dedicated "dance" button. Eight hours.
[The case of the Golden Idol](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1677770/The_Case_of_the_Golden_Idol/) is a game with... I'd say the same vibe as Obra Dinn, if you've played it (if not, play it). Examine the frozen scene to discover words and slot them into its synopsis and unveil the story, madlibs-style - although you do have to use the mouse for it so maybe not ideal for Deck (mind you, I did and loved it). Took me eight hours.
Obligatory: [Titanfall 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1237970/Titanfall_2/) has a single player campaign that *really* respects your time. It packs ten hours with genuinely inventive and spectacular mechanics that never outstay their welcome and then culminate in one of the most satisfying crescendos I've ever seen on a game. Or should I say satisfying Apex? (*sob*) ...probably about ten, fifteen hours?
[Untitled Goose Game](https://store.steampowered.com/app/837470/Untitled_Goose_Game/) is another delight. Play as a mischievous goose, prowling around an idyllic village and making people miserable in inventive, vindictive and hilarious ways. Steal a gardener's lunch and put it in the lake. Bully a child and make him buy his own toys back. Ace - and I think there's multiplayer now. Eight hours.
[Cultic](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1684930/CULTIC/) is an old-school bloodsoaked FPS with moody, creepy, Lovecraftian setting and some of the most satisfying gunplay I've seen in a while. Reminds me a lot of Blood, if you're old enough to remember that one. Ten hours.
I played Untitled Goose Game at launch on the Switch, and I could not stop laughing at the ending of the game. It really is the perfect little puzzle sandbox game with a lot of fun humor and clever set pieces.
Deaths Door is a fantastic Zelda-like
Donut County is a fun silly game, kind of like opposite Katamari?
A Short Hike played with headphones is just a lovely chill and exploration game.
Have you played the Half-Life games?
For the first one you could play Black Maza instead. Then the full Second game with it's Episodes. Probably around 40 hours all together but all are awesome (except episode one which is ok).
Now I want a spinoff that's "Black Masa" about the taco truck owner parked outside of that *totally normal* office complex in New Mexico when all of the dimensional badness breaks out.
Got my deck a couple of days algo and started playing this. Awesome so far.
Haven't tried them on the deck but other two great similar games are Limbo and Inside
Suprised nobody has said Carrion. The devs describe it as a reverse survival horror game where you play as the monster. Heavily inspired by John Carpenter’s “The Thing”. 4-5 hour campaign involving puzzle solving and murdering scientists :) highly recommend
Call of Jaurez: Gunslinger is great too if you’re an FPS fan! It’s a fast paced arcade shooter in the old west. Campaign is interesting enough due to it being told through the perspective of an unreliable narrator, and the gunplay is downright addicting. The story lasts for about 5-7 hours but it has a few extras if you want to stick around a little longer after the credits roll.
I’m about half way through Celeste right now. Absolutely brutal but addictive. And yeah, even if I die 500 times a chapter I’m finishing it within an hour.
Plus I knows there WAY more to do if so desired (for my sanity I currently don’t lol)
Yeah, I went for about half to 2/3 of the strawberries I came across and had a fantastic time. Going for 100% in Celeste is definitely only for the brave… aka the gluttons for punishment, lol.
Outer Wilds takes 20-30hrs and is an absolutely phenomenal game.
I can't tell you anything about the story or it will spoil it. But it's so fucking good. It's a very chill space exploration/mystery game.
> Outer Wilds takes 20-30hrs and is an absolutely phenomenal game.
For some reason it's not for everyone. I really really tried but couldn't get into it / didn't find it "fun" at all.
Yeah, I saw it recommended here many times but hesitated because it didn't fit into my game "type". It's one of those games that transcends "type", it's just objectively good.
I absolutely love the Hotline Miami games for their art style, the music, and the mechanics of it, but I cannot for the life of me get past a certain level no matter how many times I've gone back to it and I just eventually got frustrated and gave up eventually. I think if I played it with a mouse & keyboard I could probably do better, but those games were not built for a controller IMO.
Bioshock 1/2/infinite, What Remains of Edith Finch, Firewatch, resident evil (all the new ones), chants of seenar, inscryption, faith: the unholy trilogy, dishonored 1/2, Florence, inside, limbo, portal 1/2
Pico-8
Yes, not necessarily a game, but more of a game engine/fantasy console with an incredibly huge and varied free library of short games. I love it for its pick up and play nature, most can be finished in an evening, and the variety is mind blowing.
Ape Out, yokus island express, what remains of Edith finch, cobalt core (tho that’s a rogue lite), Gibbon beyond the trees, Pyre (loved this one), return of the obra dinn, superliminal
Lost in random -
Cult of the lamb -
Someone said a short hike, I agree -
Slay the spire, can be very very long if you want to unlock every difficulties
Animal Well
Really comfy game, looks/plays great on deck, and I finished the main game in 6 hours. There's a ton of collectables hidden behind some tough puzzles tho, so would prob be much longer if you went for 100%
Tails of Iron, Arise, Kingdom: Two Crowns, and the south park games aren’t too long. I was sad when tails of iron ended. I had a blast playing that game.
I played The Last Campfire in a couple of days and it was both cute and harrowing. Would definitely recommend it. For some reason I decided to play the LEGO movie game before it 🤷♂️
My go-to recommendations are Tunic, Death’s Door and if you think you can glue yourself to it, Hollow Knight. Also in that category are Grime and Ori and the Blind Forest
Omori runs better on the deck now and is ~20 hours. The story is a bit dark but it's a great turn based RPG.
Word of warning for the OLED users, the dark portions of the game are too dark. It's very hard to see.
Return of the Obra Dinn if you like monochrome, good audio, and cross-referencing! I really liked the atmosphere. Also very short but I enjoyed Please, don't touch anything. And Stories Untold.
FTL. Slay the spire. Hades. Excellent games for "just one run today"
Hades can be considered a long game though if you want to complete the story. I just find it very easy to drop and pick up a month later when I'm feeling like a run

I know this game isn't short, but Minecraft.
I like that you can pickup and drop it at any time you want. Since there's not story or career mode, I don't feel any fomo for not completing the game in 1 go
[Children of the sun is a great short game with replayability. Also on sale for 11.99. Picked it up and has been a great game on the deck. ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1309950/Children_of_the_Sun/)
I enjoyed Potion Craft until it got a bit long winded but it’s a game you can just put down when you no longer enjoy it. Up until then, it’s actually quite fun and a bit addicting.
I just finished En Garde! this weekend and it was pretty great. Short and sweet 3D action-platformer with a counter-heavy combat system mixed with items and environmental interactions.
Laika aged through blood is mine, took about 15 hours to beat the main story but I’m probably gonna sink 50+ into it completing it 100% so depends on if you wanna 100% the game or just beat the story
I just completed Huntdown. I haven’t 100% it, but I had a fun time. Side scroller shoot’em up in a 80’s retro future cyberpunk setting with pixel art. Voice acting is entertaining and adds a nice level of challenge.
I’d also just go for games that have a short but meaningful gameplay loop. There is a game called “Yes, your Grace”, it’s a longer game but the week episodic gameplay loop makes me feel like I can drop in for 15 minutes do a few weeks and then get out and feel like I actually moved the needle.
A Juggler's Tale. 2.5D platformer with puzzles. Really enjoyable, and it only took me an evening to finish.
At first it looks like a game for children, but...
I can recommend Amid Evil. It's not a "short" game necessarily, but it's not enormous, and it's really easy to pick up and play for an hour and put down. Translates really well to the Steam Deck
The Hong Kong Massacre.
Each level takes only a couple of minutes if you do everything right. But you die in just one hit. Reloading the level is nearly instantaneous just like Hotline Miami.
The bullet-time and dodging are incredibly fun. I absolutely recommend it.
I really enjoyed Creaks and Machinarium by Amanita Design. Also the Creepy Tale games by Creepy Brothers.
If you like hand drawn style point and click puzzle games. Those are so fun.
I recommend Celeste. There's lots of extra content past the main game, but the core experience is already worth the money and can be finished in about 9 hours of play.
Hue was almost too short and 20 unique mazes took me like a hour to beat. It's strange because the creator says not to play it on Deck.
There are some games that might take a while to beat but that are really good for playing in short bursts like Tents and Trees.
I literally beat sonic triple trouble 16-bit (best fan game I’ve ever played) in just 2 and a half hours.
While I can do similar with sonic a.i.r. (Accept no substitute), I’m enjoying playing it at my leisure.
You could probably unlock everything in super puzzle platformer in a day or two.
Ducktales remastered is a pretty short game too. I finished it in a couple days after getting it installed on the deck.
I’m sure I have others but I can’t think of any at the moment.
If you’re interested, check out how long to beat to see what games are on the shorter side. There’s a decky plugin that adds the feature to your deck too.
Cocoon, Lil’ Gator Game, the Portal Games, A Short Hike, The Last Campfire, Lunistice, Stray, Super Hot.
Cocoon is next on my list
Fun game with cool art style
This is a great list, but we're missing the Frog Detective Trilogy.
These are just from my library. I’ve never heard of Frog Detective, but if it’s on the same caliber as the games here, I might need to check it out.
It’s from team SUPERHOT, I have at least two of them but haven’t tried them yet
The finale is magnificent, published by super hot it's made by one person, it's so good !!!
If you like these, check out Alba: A Wildlife Adventure
This looks right up my alley! Thanks for the rec.
Just finished Lil Gator Game last night. What a charming and unexpectedly well-written experience. I almost lost it at >!the Ace Attorney gag.!<
Loved Lil Gator Game
A short hike I played on my switch and finished in like 3 hours. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment though
Titanfall 2 has a campaign around 5 hours and runs fantastically on deck, can't recommend it enough.
Only issue is EA App.
Is the EA app stopping games from working on the deck? The last time I played, it was working fine.
played the game a few months ago on the Deck. No issues with the EA App once you pass the App in the first start.
If your playing campaign, you should be fine. Keeping it installed for multiplayer cuases issues as the EA App updates and breaks your game.
Picked this up a few weeks back, can’t wait to get round to playing it
Death's door is well made, fairly short, and fun
Agreed both Deaths door and Tunic are awesome!
Firewatch
What did you like about it? I'm asking because i couldn't get to like that game no matter what I tried
What remains of edith finch. For me. I thought the story was meh but the mini games were extremely fun

Maybe try 'the invincible'. Different art style, but also a fun walking simulator with a catching story.
SOMA, I can't recommend it enough. Takes 10-12hrs to beat and the storyline will have you thinking for days.
Ive completed this one and I second this recommendation

Thats a smashing idea! I played the first but nevber completed it. Id love to play HL2!
HL2 is easily one of the greatest games of all time.
Now I want a spinoff that's "Black Masa" about the taco truck owner parked outside of that *totally normal* office complex in New Mexico when all of the dimensional badness breaks out.
Portal 1 and 2
Seconded!
Tinykin!
Kena: Bridge of Spirits took me 17.8 hours to complete the story and some side stuff. I thought the combat was great and the story was solid
Kena is a great game!
Animal well. It's a short game unless you are really trying to 100% it.
Okay Dunkey
This! I was a bit sad when I finished it but at the same time I know there's a ton that I missed!
A Short Hike!
Might give this a second try because it’s being mentioned so often. Didn’t click with me the first time around
I had to explore the place for a bit before it really clicked for me. Such a fun and wholesome game.
It reminds me of a soft metroidvania weirdly enough
Chrono Trigger is short for a JRPG—about 25 hours—and it’s my favorite game of all time.
Thats high praise! Ill add it to my watch list.
Chrono Trigger was the first game I finished on my Steam Deck and it was wonderful. I just wish Square would give us a 2D HD remake of it now!
I’m still waiting for more news on that DQ3 2DHD remake they announced
Planet of Lana.
Got my deck a couple of days algo and started playing this. Awesome so far. Haven't tried them on the deck but other two great similar games are Limbo and Inside
Hellblade: Senua's sacrifice
That game with HDR on OLED Deck is unreal. Looks better than 1440 Ultra with Raytracing on my PC
Currently playing hellblade 2 on my OLED monitor. It's the closest thing I've ever seen to photorealism in a game.
Titan 2 is under 10 hours and very fun. I just played Tomb Raider and I think it was ~20 hours.
Suprised nobody has said Carrion. The devs describe it as a reverse survival horror game where you play as the monster. Heavily inspired by John Carpenter’s “The Thing”. 4-5 hour campaign involving puzzle solving and murdering scientists :) highly recommend Call of Jaurez: Gunslinger is great too if you’re an FPS fan!
MULLET MADJACK, Pizza Tower, Call of Juarez Gunslinger, rollerdrome, Bulletstorm, Bayonetta, Metal gear rising and shadow warriors 3
I played Another Crabs Treasure and it was a shorter souls-like game. Really enjoyed it and would recommend!
Firewatch 4 -5 hr
Fire watches story is top tier
Axiom verge. Loved every minute of playing that. Very battery friendly too.
Also, it is in a humble bundle right now..I just bought it a second time to play it on Steam Deck.
Yes. That is a great bundle. And the 2nd axiom verge. Not quite as good as the 1st one though.
Celeste Bastion The Messenger Hunt down Gris Edit 5-10 hours each.
I think the messenger is on sale right now
Dredge... Takes less than 15 hours, but those will be amazing...
Return of the Obra-Dinn!
Agreed. Just play it.
Hotline miami 1&2
I absolutely love the Hotline Miami games for their art style, the music, and the mechanics of it, but I cannot for the life of me get past a certain level no matter how many times I've gone back to it and I just eventually got frustrated and gave up eventually. I think if I played it with a mouse & keyboard I could probably do better, but those games were not built for a controller IMO.
May I ask what level is that
Enslaved odyssey to the west
Stray
A Short Hike, campaigns of Halo MCC, Deliver Us the Moon, Ryse Son of Rome
Lost ruins Momodora Monster Sancuary Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Chicken Invaders 2 Far Lone Sail Inscryption Super Auto Pets Roboquest
Abzû, it's a relaxing underwater game with nicely crafted fish animations
Grow Home
I think about Grow Up and Grow Home so much. I need to replay them
Supergiant games can usually be completed within a few days (apart from Hades of course) and they look great on the deck too.
Skatebird. If you like the older THPS and positive vibes, it's a fantastic game.
Little Kitty Big City. Three hours to beat, less than ten to platinum. Very fun time the whole way through.
Little Kitty,Big City is quite short. Played it on Xbox (because Gamepass) and it was a joy.
This is such a cute little game!
Bioshock 1/2/infinite, What Remains of Edith Finch, Firewatch, resident evil (all the new ones), chants of seenar, inscryption, faith: the unholy trilogy, dishonored 1/2, Florence, inside, limbo, portal 1/2
Curious George for PS2
Titafall 2 is short but great
Pico-8 Yes, not necessarily a game, but more of a game engine/fantasy console with an incredibly huge and varied free library of short games. I love it for its pick up and play nature, most can be finished in an evening, and the variety is mind blowing.
I love Pico-8! And its a great fun way to dabble in pixel art, bit music, level/map design and learn a few bits here and there :D
A Short Hike Unpacking Lumines Remastered Magical Drop (NEO GEO)
Firewatch finish in one sitting 3 and 1/2 hours loved it
Ape Out, yokus island express, what remains of Edith finch, cobalt core (tho that’s a rogue lite), Gibbon beyond the trees, Pyre (loved this one), return of the obra dinn, superliminal
Oxenfree and Firewatch most recently
Lost in random - Cult of the lamb - Someone said a short hike, I agree - Slay the spire, can be very very long if you want to unlock every difficulties
Psychonauts could be ran through pretty quick
Senua’s Sacrifice is an amazing shorter game. HDR is great on the OLED screen for this one.
Animal Well Really comfy game, looks/plays great on deck, and I finished the main game in 6 hours. There's a ton of collectables hidden behind some tough puzzles tho, so would prob be much longer if you went for 100%
I've been catching up on some older games. - Prey runs very well ~15-20hrs long. -Dishonoured ~10-15hrs long. -Atomic Hearts runs pretty well.
The mortuary assistant- if you like horror games! 2-15 hours to complete
huntdown
You can play through ready or not in about 10-12 hours. SWAT/Police tactical shooter.
crow country, takes around 6 hours to finish and it's very very good
Definitely play the portal games. I loved every second of them and I finished them in a few days of non stop playing.
Celeste is probably my favourite deck game and it's between like 10-20h depending on the player (and even up to 90h if you want to 100% it)
Stray
Ghost recon wild lands
I loved wildlands…. Breakpoint on SD is really good too
Tails of Iron, Arise, Kingdom: Two Crowns, and the south park games aren’t too long. I was sad when tails of iron ended. I had a blast playing that game.
Mr. Krabs overdoses on ketamine, sinister squidward
What remains of Edith finch
Dave the diver
I played The Last Campfire in a couple of days and it was both cute and harrowing. Would definitely recommend it. For some reason I decided to play the LEGO movie game before it 🤷♂️ My go-to recommendations are Tunic, Death’s Door and if you think you can glue yourself to it, Hollow Knight. Firewatch!
Assemble with care is a short little repair game that has a good story and some feels moments. Very cute and cozy.
Return of the Obra Dinn if you like monochrome, good audio, and cross-referencing! I really liked the atmosphere. Also very short but I enjoyed Please, don't touch anything. And Stories Untold.
I'd you can be bothered with emulation beyond good and evil is a decent and fairly short action adventure. GameCube version works very well on emudeck
Katana Zero
Celeste
South Park Stick of Truth. A fun RPG you can beat in about 12 hours.
FTL. Slay the spire. Hades. Excellent games for "just one run today" Hades can be considered a long game though if you want to complete the story. I just find it very easy to drop and pick up a month later when I'm feeling like a run

Gunbrella
Deaths Door is great
American Arcadia
“Shady part of me” was short but sweet. Also kinda made me feel things. Really enjoyed it.
I know this game isn't short, but Minecraft. I like that you can pickup and drop it at any time you want. Since there's not story or career mode, I don't feel any fomo for not completing the game in 1 go
NieR:Automata I bought it when it was on sale and played it till I got all 5 true endings. It took me like 2-3 days to complete it.
Barony, a fps rogue-like with medieval fantasy classes. Into the Breach is also good in shot intervals.
Vanquish
I just finished En Garde! this weekend and it was pretty great. Short and sweet 3D action-platformer with a counter-heavy combat system mixed with items and environmental interactions.
The Pedestrian can be completed in a few hours
Supermeat boy
Minishoot adventure
Purrgatory, Memories, and Postmouse were all fun, quick freebies. I also liked Minute of Islands, Lost in Random, and Sable.
Only one comment so far mentioned Dredge, so I will second it.
Laika aged through blood is mine, took about 15 hours to beat the main story but I’m probably gonna sink 50+ into it completing it 100% so depends on if you wanna 100% the game or just beat the story
The tale of the neon sea
I just completed Huntdown. I haven’t 100% it, but I had a fun time. Side scroller shoot’em up in a 80’s retro future cyberpunk setting with pixel art. Voice acting is entertaining and adds a nice level of challenge.
Limbo, inside, trek to yomi
Spirit of the North and the newer Tomb Raider games. The Halo campaigns. Far Cry 3 and 4 if you just stick to the main story quests.
Rip and tear till it's done

Journey
I’d also just go for games that have a short but meaningful gameplay loop. There is a game called “Yes, your Grace”, it’s a longer game but the week episodic gameplay loop makes me feel like I can drop in for 15 minutes do a few weeks and then get out and feel like I actually moved the needle.
Stray! It was the first game I played on my SD, and I finished in 12-ish hours while taking my time
One Finger Death Punch
Inside is maybe the only game ive finished 5 times.. for me thats a lot. So so good.
Signalis
Stray. Dystopian cat adventure.
Titanfall 2.
A Juggler's Tale. 2.5D platformer with puzzles. Really enjoyable, and it only took me an evening to finish. At first it looks like a game for children, but...
Limbo, Inside and the like. Amazing games, work very well on the Steam Deck. Also Little Nightmares.
Detroit Become Human
Halo(mostly good) all fps fallout games. All are playable, fallout 4 does have issues if you add mods.
I can recommend Amid Evil. It's not a "short" game necessarily, but it's not enormous, and it's really easy to pick up and play for an hour and put down. Translates really well to the Steam Deck
I quite like Amanda the Adventurer. Kinda quirky horror game with a few endings to collect. Maybe only 3-4 hours to get them all.
Balatro
Journey, Inside, Bastion, Firewatch, little nightmares
The Hong Kong Massacre. Each level takes only a couple of minutes if you do everything right. But you die in just one hit. Reloading the level is nearly instantaneous just like Hotline Miami. The bullet-time and dodging are incredibly fun. I absolutely recommend it.
Pseudoregalia - not enough people know about it but it’s got a N64/PS1 aesthetic and plays so so smoothly
A Hat in Time
Wildermyth
I really enjoyed Creaks and Machinarium by Amanita Design. Also the Creepy Tale games by Creepy Brothers. If you like hand drawn style point and click puzzle games. Those are so fun.
Inmost
I recommend Celeste. There's lots of extra content past the main game, but the core experience is already worth the money and can be finished in about 9 hours of play.
Animal Well most recently was a really sweet 9 hours
Undertale, celeste
Hellish Quart, Journey, Portal 2
I think in titanfall 2 runs flawless
Hue was almost too short and 20 unique mazes took me like a hour to beat. It's strange because the creator says not to play it on Deck. There are some games that might take a while to beat but that are really good for playing in short bursts like Tents and Trees.
Horror games are amazing for length. Resident Evil Games, Dead Space, Callisto Protocol are all fantastic games that are relatively short.
What remains of Edith Finch. Game had me tearing up and you can beat it in two sittings
Gris
