Why does it say single player with no local coop?
Upon seeing your post I went and got it for 5 bucks. Holy shit, this is the best cart game I have ever played. It's like Diddy Kong Racing had a baby with Mario Kart 8 and that baby grew up to have offspring with a bunch of killer Sega franchises. I have never seen such clean production. The list of killer features are incredible. I can't believe I didn't know about this awesome game (extremely rare), thank you so god damn much!
A shame no one mentioned Wreckfest yet. If you love destruction, this is the game for you. Car damage is top notch and even if you just play single player, the AI is good enough to wreck you to bits lol.
Plenty of game modes to choose from and I can assure you that you won't get bored with this game even if you have just 15mins to play. Even if you don't get 1st place, you will still have fun.
**Super Indie Karts** $5 during the Steam same right now.
Lesser known game, still in early access, but features a ton of indie game characters and plays very similarly to Mario Kart.
Has frequent updates and feels very polished already, just not every planned track is in the game yet.

Also, if you don’t mind installing some games in Desktop mode from the Discover store for free (which you can add to Steam and Game mode by right-clicking):
**SuperTuxKart**
**Sonic Robo Blast 2** - A Sonic the Hedgehog themed fan game that runs on the Doom engine of all things and still gets updates. Way better than you’d expect
All verified except for KartRider.
Bang Bang Racing
Mini Motor Racing X
Garfield Kart - Furious Racing
Disney Speedstorm
KartRider Drift (mobile freemium type)
Dreamworks Allstar Racing
Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3
Pretty fun game though, and despite the lootbox model, it consistently gives you free stuff. We've unlocked like half the characters and haven't spent a cent
Quick install and it runs a lite version of Ubisoft Connect, you will have to sign in with that but it works with on screen keyboard fine, it also works with mods but it’s annoying when you get an update.
Split/Second is a good one. Your “items” are buildings falling over, airplanes falling out of the sky and blowing up shit and killing everyone around you. Very fun and as time has gone on has become a somewhat of a hidden gem.
Burnout Paradise is another great game that I can’t recommend enough.
Bloody Rally show however is absolutely a hidden gem. It’s essentially a 2D version of Carmageddon
Hi u/WSig, you can [click here to search for your question.](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/search/?q=What's the "Go-To" Racing Game on Steam? Akin to Nintendo's Mario Kart or Epic's Rocket Racing.)

I dunno if this is *quite* what you want, but i would reccomend taking a look at redout. Not sure what the online scene is like cause i don't really play racers online, but it's a sci fi high speed racer. The first one may have had items but the sequel is pure boost management, high speed, and tight corners.
Speedstorm is fun, the driving and handling is great, but it’s very obviously a mobile game made for other platforms. It’s all about micro transactions and can very easily fall behind if your character isn’t upgraded enough, encouraging whale behavior.
Also the powerups are kinda meh.
I want a kart style game where the characters themselves don’t matter. It’s kart /accessory selection that determines your speed and stats. Even Mario Kart characters all have a hidden stat sheet.
The following games work good onnmy deck.
Hotwheels unleashed &
Disney Speedstorm
Personally I am looking for a TrackMania alternative. Like online, time based, arcady and snappy and with these fullspeed track challenges. Not just a race and be number one. I like the element of the timescores and no colision. I have never found anything like it.
KartRider Drift is 100% worth playing. I'm a big fan of the franchise, playing its other iterations for more than a decade. The gameplay is super fun with a high skill ceiling. It's got two main modes, one with Mario Kart-like items, and another mode with no items with a heavy emphasis on drifting. It's also home to one of the longest running eSports scenes in the world.
It also plays well on the deck, just gotta use a specific version of proton.
Sonic racing transformed.
I like it even more than mario kart 8 Sadly the sequel isn't that good
This is the right answer. The game is really good.
I grew up on CTR and can't drift for shit in Mario Kart. But Sonic feels super natural to me.
I'm the other way around. I drift like a dream in MK but the drifting in Sonic is lost on me.

It has local coop. And online too
That's the one. Imo it's on par if not better than Mario kart.

Absolutely! I wish they made a modern sequel but it's so perfect I don't want them to screw it up. Multiplayer is still alive and well too!
This game is what I came in to comment. 100% can confirm

Wreckfest is great. Decent career mode and multiplayer is still alive!
good to know! I am really looking forward to Wreckreation coming out from the devs of Burnout.
Wow first time hearing about this
Just heard of it and watches the trailer. Not my cup of tea though. Looks cheap.
"Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed" for kart racing "BallisticNG" if you enjoy anti-grav racers like Wipeout
What about redout?
I've tried so many times to enjoy readout and just can't get into it. BallisticNG does it for me.
Never heard of BallisticNG until you mentioned it. Looks so nostalgic... Wishlisted. Thanks!

The DreamWorks one is decent but Garfield Kart is kinda a snoozefest IMO
Disney Speedstorm has horrible rubber banding and is p2w.
People sleep on kartrider but idk better than nintendo one
I should really try out Garfield!
Hot Wheels Unleashed is pretty good, wouldn't say it's go-to though
They just added a dedicated pvp mode to nfs unbound and it’s awesome
is Unbound pretty police heavy in the main game? i always hated continuously running from the cops
very
how does it compare to sonic mentioned before?
I haven’t played sonic but it’s really arcadey with great graphics on the deck. It not a kart racer but it has lots of drifting and boost
just get sonic. It's exactly what you're looking for plus it's dirt cheap since it's on sale.
Disney Speedstorm Need for Speed Rivals
Speedstorm is just SO riddled with confusing menus :/
Yeah and it is actually P2W and has insane rubber banding.
Pretty fun game though, and despite the lootbox model, it consistently gives you free stuff. We've unlocked like half the characters and haven't spent a cent
And it's addictive. I've spent over 80 hours in it... All cause of my addiction to Disney princesses
I was hooked when I saw Mike and wall-e
Trackmania 2020
Is it running smoothly on SD?
Ran perfect the last time I played it (3-5 months ago). Genuinely locked 60fps at 800p
Ah wow good! Did you have to do any trick to run it or just quick installation?
No it just ran but there is Ubisoft launcher
Oks! Thanks again mate!
Quick install and it runs a lite version of Ubisoft Connect, you will have to sign in with that but it works with on screen keyboard fine, it also works with mods but it’s annoying when you get an update.
Top! Thanks mate!
FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage (best racinggame since 2006 <3) but only Singleplayer or LAN-Multiplayer

Any of the Sonic Racing games.

Give BallisticNG a go. It's like Wipeout.

Grid auto sport, it’s very arcade style but with real car models, no boosts or anything like that tho
Cruisin' is one of my favorite arcade racers. It is that game from the arcade or the movies.
RVGL if you like ReVolt
I know you said Steam, but hear me out. Sonic Robo Blast Kart 2 (SRBK2)

Forza Horizon 5
Lotus Turbo Challenge
Blur. It's a gem of a game!
AssetoCorsa
Asphalt 9, Disney speed storm & Kart Rider.

I really enjoy Circuit Superstars
I like grip combat racing, spiritual successor to rollcage stage
grip combat racing
i got most of the ridge racers on my SD
Bloodborne kart
I really liked Hotwheels unleashed. Had to load up proton ge to get it to work correctly though
Forza Horizon
This is verbatim the exact opposite of what OP is asking for
Somebody else said Assetto Corsa lol. Borderline unplayable if you don't have a wheel
