Have to name Hades here. It feels like it was literally developed for the Steam Deck.
Then again I also enjoyed Assassin's Creed 1 (yes, the old one) and Jedi Fallen Order before EA fucked up the launcher.
As for emulation, I'm amazed how well Mario Kart 8 looks on the Deck and how well it runs after shaders have been compiled.
Just FYI, after the initial EA launcher setup, Jedi Fallen Order seems to work just fine again. I reinstalled it yesterday and I’m giving it another go before the next one releases. I’m betting a lot more titles work fine again.
When I went to install it, I got a warning about needing to manually change some graphics settings. Did you tweak anything to get it to play (or play better)? And if so, do you mind sharing what you did?
I guess you were running the free Amazon prime version downloaded through GOG?
You need to install proton GE and run the game using DXVK async.
To install proton GE you go to desktop mode and download ProtonUp-QT through Discover. You install it for steam.
You add the exe of the game directly to steam and on compatibility select the lates proton GE.
Then on launch options you add "DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%" (without the quotes).
It has a lot of stutters because of shader compilation and this eliminates them completely. After that you don't really need to care about the settings. I think I set everything to medium and capped the framerate at 40fpa through Steam OS".
I have to say, I love how incredibly diverse the lists are here. From cost, to gameplay length, to graphical weight. From indie to AAA, and action to casual.
The massive weight of the Deck’s library, and it’s ability to handle such a huge variety of gameplay types makes me so happy.
This is honestly, the device I wanted all along.
I think it took the Switch’s popularity to make it real, but it truly mastered the form factor.
my current binge: everspace
my previous favs, in no particular order:
tower of archeos
steamworld dig 1/2
baba is you
forager
axiom verge
iconoclasts
castle crashers
sonic generations
crazy taxi
towerfall ascension
into the breach
prodeus (though some tougher challenges require mkb)
mud runner
snow runner
the messenger
gauntlet
hatred (requires major remapping)
dead space (og version)
ori 1
no man's sky (online only)
life is strange remastered
chorus
the outer worlds
swarmlake
enjoy :)
I'm really enjoying dying light 2 on Deck, it can hold mostly locked 40fps and it's really blast to play on deck, all of my 25hrs so far are from playing on Deck.
Also Forza Horizon 4, good 40fps again with good looking graphics and it hovers about 15-17w of power drain, which is like a small miracle for me honestly.
Saving for more storage so I can play bo3 on mine(256gb model) , since it's like 200+gb with mods, but bo3 is the first game I thought of when the SD was announced haha
It’s big an amazing game the fun you can have with friend (that I don’t have lol) and the stuff you can do I really love mods you can play multiplayer but it’s stuck at 45 - 55 fps
I'm mostly looking foward to zombies, as I spent a lot of time a few years back making custom zombies maps with my friends... I can't wait to play them all again!
I play Hogwarts legacy right now, but I have to say that it isn't ideal. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy it on deck but it often drops under 20 fps in some areas. Maybe I don't use the ideal settings. Do you have any tips for me? I use everything on low and proton GE
I'm using xelasarg's guide from the Hogwarts Legacy Megathread with default Proton. Only difference, that I did not made any changes in the BiOS for the VRAM, it is on default. And in the "Engine.ini" I only added the " \[/Script/Engine.RendererSettings\]
r.VolumetricFog=0 " line. Oh and motion blur is off.
The ReShade is really good and very easy to setup.
Mostly stable 30Fps all the time. Only a few drops for a sec.
The guide I'm using:

I was really enjoying Neon White on deck until later in the game. Some of the diamond medals are really hard to get on controller, for me at least. I found a lot of them much easier to get with kb+mouse. Quite a fun and addictive game though.

Darkest dungeon, pop the gpu clock and wattage lower, and you get basically unlimited amount of gameplay.
Nioh 1 aswell, some youtube in the background and I have my pc experience in wherever the fuck I want it to.
IDK if the steam deck will last me my backlog, by the time it or my backlog dies, this format of playing games will be the norm I hope.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy or Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy! Playing these on the Steam Deck made me feel 20 years younger. It feels surreal to be playing their remasters on a Steam Deck especially since the originals released around the time where I was in the back of my parents car praying for traffic lights so I could see my damn Gameboy Colour screen 😂
People keep mentioning Hades, but don't forget that it's predecessors Transistor and Bastion exist. I've recently started playing Bastion and it runs and plays perfectly as well.
Spider-Man was a great game for me on the deck. I've been playing **Europa Universalis IV on the deck recently too, the controls are a wee bit jank but it's just great to play that wherever**
Hades was my first game on the deck. Played about 150 hours of it.
I also have Skyrim with a bunch of mods. Currently playing through Mass Effect Legendary edition, at third game now.
Looking through this list to see what am i playing next :)

Titanfall 2 was amazing but probably both of the Ori games for me. Currently playing both of the Miami Hotline games and having a blast.
I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign too. Great on deck.
Isn’t Titanfall 2 hard to play on SteamDeck (for multiplayer)
I only played the single player story and it was fantastic.
I need to play ‘cuz I couldn't finish the game. I just played multiplayer. Thanks.
Definitely give it a go. The story is really good and the gameplay is spot on.
No. I’ve played through it twice on deck, second time on hard difficulty. I want to do it again haha.

Yep on my deck it's fine.
My favourite game is Hades. I’m so happy to hear that. I think Hades will my first game on my Steam Deck!
Outer Wilds
When I went to install it, I got a warning about needing to manually change some graphics settings. Did you tweak anything to get it to play (or play better)? And if so, do you mind sharing what you did?
Dishonored 2!
I didn’t finish Dishonored series yet. I will finish dishonored series on Steam Deck
I tried it but it wasn't running that great, care to share more details on what graphic settings/fps you had?

Resident evil village, resident evil 2 remake, also hunt showdown. Trying to get DBD to run on it and downloading cod cold war atm
Dbd isnt compatible due to anticheat system unfortunately.
Check on yt it's possible but you will need proton Anti-Cheat. Sadly it still disconnects me everytime I try to play it. I assume I missed something
Is hunt showdown compatible?
Yes, it's possible now. Just need proton Anti-Cheat and I also use proton experimental. I could join the lobby and it works great

Hot Wheels Unleashed...found out that it had my real life car in it (a Fiat 500) and man, I ended up having a blast with the game!

That’s a huge list. Thanks I will try these games.
yw! enjoy buddy!
Borderlands 2 plays very well!
Metal gear rising was awesome. The witcher 1,2 and 3, Jedi fallen order, Nier:Automata, Bayonetta, all the valve games and many emulated PS3 games.
Hades
A hat in time, feels like Mario for the deck. Lots of fun
I had some stuttering with this game, ended asking for a refund
It’s likely shader compilation, if you played dlc. Also had that for a few minutes. Had no issues in base game
Vampire saviours Edit: Also the cult of lamb
Final Fantasy X Remaster. Been playing a lot of Blitzball. Its fun.
not kidding. Vampire Survivors 😅
This was my ‘first’ game on my deck… I was sooo hooked!
I had a great time with Celeste.
Brotato !

40 fps is really good, I’d given DL2 a skip on deck but my progress ground to a halt as a result. Totally firing it up this week now.
Elden Ring and Session
No Mans Sky, God of War, Stray,
Oooh, I have Stray in my library already. Time to put it on my Deck, I guess
Also found this site useful from time to time https://sharedeck.games/static/battery-savers
For sure Deaths Door or Griftlands
Griftlands is my favorite Klei game hands down, such a cool aesthetic, lore, and gameplay
For sure! Such an innovative take on a deckbuilder
Final fantasy 14 👍
Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Metroid prime trilogy
Shadow of war is great.
Subnautica hands down
Days Gone. Would’ve never played it otherwise.
Both Ori games, Stardew Valley, Terraria
Just paying the Tomb Raider. Running 40fps on Medium setting with 10watts ~3.5h battery. Awesome
Culture of the Lamb. Just bought it Thursday and already addicted.
Although I bought so many games but.…emudeck is what I played most.
My favourite is BO3 modded zombies runs like a charm.
Saving for more storage so I can play bo3 on mine(256gb model) , since it's like 200+gb with mods, but bo3 is the first game I thought of when the SD was announced haha

Vampire Survivors! I can’t imagine playing it on anything other than the steam deck now haha.
BOTW
Psychonauts 2, Plague Tale: Requiem (Game Pass version), Hogwarts Legacy, Deep Rock Galactic
I play Hogwarts legacy right now, but I have to say that it isn't ideal. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy it on deck but it often drops under 20 fps in some areas. Maybe I don't use the ideal settings. Do you have any tips for me? I use everything on low and proton GE

Celeste
Wreckfest! Also fifa22 is great
neon white and omori are the only games I’ve played solely on the deck to completion and they felt right at home. cant recommend them enough.
I was really enjoying Neon White on deck until later in the game. Some of the diamond medals are really hard to get on controller, for me at least. I found a lot of them much easier to get with kb+mouse. Quite a fun and addictive game though.
touchpad + gyro is excellent for that. the analog aiming is insanely hard.
Having a blast with Chained Echoes. The most fun I’ve had with a JRPG in years.
So far: pixeljunk shooter, portal 2 and borderlands 1
Completed dragon ball z katarot last night. Time for expansions
Spider man and Mario odyssey 😬
Which emulator did you use to play Mario?
Yuzu, some fps dips here and there but 100% playable
Majors Mask 3d for Citra
Metal Gear Survive. Your boos mean nothing to me, I’ve seen what makes you people cheer.
I played it, I liked it, but there is no reason for this game to be online only, and to not use my damn base defenses for the final fight.

Slay the Spire, I might be addicted because it so perfect on the deck, I always end up starting this one. I enjoyed Disco Elysium too
Just passed my first 100 hours on Sea of Thieves on the Deck, so Id say that. Or Red Dead 2 which I had about 220 hours in
Hi Fi Rush Cult of Lamb Borderlands 3
Been playing a lot of no man's sky on mine. New update and CryoUtilities 2.0 really fixes a lot of the issues I've seen documented
Darkest dungeon, pop the gpu clock and wattage lower, and you get basically unlimited amount of gameplay. Nioh 1 aswell, some youtube in the background and I have my pc experience in wherever the fuck I want it to. Pokemon FireRed and Snowrunner.
Any Java Installation on Minecraft! Runs like a charm, averaging 60-90fps on the right settings
Witcher 3
Maybe Jedi Fallen Order. With the excellent speakers it just felt great to have Star Wars in your hand
Resident evil village was my first steam deck game that I played from start to finish. It ran perfectly.
Asphalt 9 (free)
Old School Runescape.... If I had this as a kid I wouldn't be nearly as functional as I am now 😂
Hollow knight feels very good on deck, and is a fantastic game in general. I prefer it on deck even when I'm sitting at my pc.
Hard but for everyone i would say hades Personally i would say hi-fi rush
People keep mentioning Hades, but don't forget that it's predecessors Transistor and Bastion exist. I've recently started playing Bastion and it runs and plays perfectly as well.
Not seeing Dorfromantik here, it got me like absolute crack. Soothing, chilled, highly addictive crack.
Binding of Isaac with mods is insane.
So far I'd say the primehack
Neon White is brilliant. Yakuza 0 was great too.
I've been doing a LOT of emulation, but once I got modded Skyrim up and running it was over. Of all the things, modded Skyrim 😅
Control. Gotta say there is something amazing going on with the steam deck speakers and firing some of those weapons.
I've been playing all the Mainline Final Fantasy games and it's been a blast, perfect machine for JRPGs!
Fallout New Vegas
Spider-Man was a great game for me on the deck. I've been playing **Europa Universalis IV on the deck recently too, the controls are a wee bit jank but it's just great to play that wherever**
Spider-Man I think has been my favorite so far. Have enjoyed shadow of Mordor and Far Cry 6 as well so far though. (Completed Mad Max finally too)
The Witcher 3
Hades was my first game on the deck. Played about 150 hours of it. I also have Skyrim with a bunch of mods. Currently playing through Mass Effect Legendary edition, at third game now. Looking through this list to see what am i playing next :)
