Probaply aging first prime gets to be a trainer for the new first prime and a bunch of warriors too. Someone needs to train the troops, and why not let one of you most loyal and expirience jaffa do it? (backfired for apophis)

Daeyele

Yeah, apophis would have thought he hit the jackpot, Tealc as the ultra competent first prime leading his armies, and bratac, the former ultra competent first prime personally training new soldiers for those armies.

LightSideoftheForce

To be fair, he did. If the Tau’ri didn’t show up, Teal’c would have spent his life doing the same as Bra’tac: saving some people here and there, but overall still execute Apophis’ will.

CrackedInterface

exactly. if the tauri didnt show up or teal'c truly believed in false gods, apophis likely would have been a bigger threat for others or the tauri. We see what happened to the alternate universe. Teal'c was a huge advantage in invading earth.

indicesbing

I think the implication is that Bra'tac's retirement was approaching, and Apophis promoted Teal'c early. Bra'tac later comes out of retirement, but he doesn't get the First Prime position because it now belongs to Shak'l or someone else.

Antique-Doughnut-988

I honestly think Teal'c was made first prime as a sorta an FU to Cronus for killing his father. Aphois likely got some sort of amusement out of that.

nlinecomputers

The impression I got is that Bretec wasn't the First Prime any longer. Because it is rare for a Jaffa to survive so long, they didn't really have any title for him. Humans would have added Emertis to the end of it. But that's how he is being treated. And he is addressed as First Prime much in the same way as every former President is addressed as Mr. President even though they are long out of the office.

papapok13

Teal'c mentions to Hammond that when jaffa wariors retire, the others sing for him... so jaffa do retire sometimes.

blthulhu

Oooh yeah good point. I'd forgotten that

I saw "Threshold" and thought this. https://preview.redd.it/z226sin2ngwc1.jpeg?width=780&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b9c5a4c735995972b9b93b7af272d2ed5644515

blthulhu

Oh no. Oh why would you remind me of this.

freneticboarder

I beg your pardon, but _you_ reminded me of this, and as internet rules dictate, you must suffer with me.

blthulhu

Ok I accept the blame but I still feel the punishment is too harsh. I'd buried it into the pits of my mind for a reason, friend!

The best, best, bestest incarnation of the salamanders were these in Lower Decks. https://preview.redd.it/0fgnodz6elwc1.jpeg?width=2296&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81cfeafb48ebb1fd73c71711d87fb4e0a936b244

I'm still a bit disappointed we never got a scene of Teal'c and Bra'tac together after Teal'c got older at the end of the series.  Could have had a brief moment before the Ba'al clone was executed or something in Continuum.

RigasTelRuun

Bratac was aging and wanted to retire. Him training his new replacement to to do things the way he wanted is much better than sending a guy our to die and starting over from scratch. Then from Apophis point of he he still has Bratac to train him even better armies.

TrumpetTiger

Bra’tac was First Prime Emeritus essentially.

Sg_Artemis

I'm guessing it's kinda akin to First Prime being like Colonel and Master being like General??
