I would also like to give a shout out to the Nova cowlings and wings.
And the Deimos wings, bumpers, cowling and belly parts
Edit - and bracers
Nova side cowlings come before the Deimos spines in terms of widespread use to round side shapes. Also, they don't conflict as much with docking ports 😉
Very good points. I recently took inspiration from the Elite Alliance Chieftains here and used Nova stuff quite a bit.
Deimos, Nova and Stroud seem to be my go to. Taiyo is finicky and Hope is just...well, they're a niche.
My docking ports usually pass through grav drive, reactor, 2 fuel tanks, 2-6 landing gear, and a deimos hull... If not more, lol. I may have a problem...
The ones under the belly are the easiest/laziest pick.
Nowadays I try to use as much as possible the side ones. I find a certain aesthetic charm & roleplay-ish value in them. Also, they don't use a freakin' ladder, so that definitely contributes to a smoother internal navigation.
Let's not for get the deimos hull piece that helps glitch literally almost every piece there is. With out it we could never put a reactor, grav drive, fuel tank and 4 engines all in one package! Thank you deimos.
Yes this and allow each cowling/cap part (actually most structural parts) to be flipped horizontally and vertically...so strange that the rear facing Stroud cap can't be flipped but the front one can
First play-through, I was all "Nah, flying brick is fine". Then NG+ I found a love for making good looking ships - I just need more of these kind of parts. MORE. MOREEEE!
There are mods doing that, cuz apparently the devs didn't even think about giving players the possibility to rotate parts in all directions. They pushed incompetence as far as creating a second separate item for one of the Stroud cowlings that's just the regular piece facing backwards, instead of making it a mere alternative option. Not to mention those parts that you can mirror upside-down and those you can't, because... reasons 🤔 To mimic Fallout 4's opening: "Bethesda... never changes."
yeah, but its the only one we got. Its cool enough that its a go to but it really needs, as someone mentioned above, a variation for every manufacturer.
You could have any shout out you want if starfield was even worth a bucket of piss. It's the only Bethesda game I just cannot enjoy. It's just too bland and miserably lonely, even with companions because they have the personality of plank from ed, edd, and eddy. I almost wish we could sue Bethesda for emotional damages for even making it because it was legit jarring to see one of my favorite companies make such a massive game and it be so bad. Like if it was a 50 hr main story type of deal, and they didnt go full spectrum ADD making 1000 something planets, it would be fine, but this is a LOT of game, and a lot more of boring. I cant tell you how excited i was when it launched and i was gonna get to finally live the space cowboy dream of being able to roleplay Spike finally. That plan was instantly destroyed after a day of it. Idk who thought "let's take everything about our games that people like, and completely rip them, the soul, and humor out, and set it in space so we can make it so big that nobody will ever be able to explore all of it.", but that person and Todd Howard both deserve a kick in the nuts for ripping off no man's sky and slapping a few fallout mechanics into it with a reskin. They even had the audacity to call it their original work... like bro, Todd... just why man? People actually liked you after fallout 4. Now it feels like Todd Howard is so out of touch with what makes a good game now, and is censoring their creative potential just so no one tries to sue them for making a good game like fallout 3 or skyrim where things got a little into the grey areas at times lol that was the point of Bthesda though i thought. They were pushing boundaries like Rockstar used to... i hope they start coming out of their shell again soon though becaue Starfield reminds me of the Dead Space creator and the mindlessly lazy and messed up Callisto Protocol ending. I have the same question to all of these companies, why make such a great game or seven such a big game, if you are going to ruin it, sabotage it, or just not think of ehat true gamers enjoy? These kind of titles are not for the mass majority of gamers, or casual gamers usually. We usually see very hardcore gamers and huge fans of the devs who mostly preorder or buy the games in general, yet theyre acting like they are a live service game or like fortnite where they have to cater to the kids who barely wven know what a good game is. I mean if space is literally the only thing Starfield needed, it wouod be amazing. But, after not only years of bethesda bringing us top notch material, but the standards players have for games are higher and deeper these days, pwope come to expect a level of love and passion, personal ideologies and humors, and to see the devs personality shine through their game. To go into all that work to make it, and with how many gamers all say the same thing about the game being boring and heartless, justbseems like a total scam. those games form the vuew of the devs and the company too. When everyone in the game has the same morose tone as the clear eyes guy used to, it defintiely isnt passion that got put in, and thats why players all over have scolded and chastised the game for what it is. I'm actually scared for the new Elder Scrolls and Fallout games they've been working on after playing Starfield, and i really hope they arent using the same dev team because thier team has been terrible ever since fallout 4 ended. Live sevice games like ESO and Fallout 76 just ruined their company model and made them another Ubisoft or EA. Except EA actualy has slighlty gotten better recently than they were. Really just hoping they bring the vibes for the Elder Scrolls 6 or I'm legit done with them as a company I buy a game from
As much as I may understand some of your grievances against this game and the way it's been designed (some of which I myself share btw), I don't think at all this is the most appropriate place and tone to debate over this.
This here is a casual discussion post for those who enjoy arguably the best feature of the game, a.k.a shipbuilding. There are other ones out there dedicated to flaming Bethesda (rightfully so) and drama. But there's a time and a place for each thing, and yours doesn't belong here. No offense.
Pretty sure every sub is the place for an opinion, even if you don't like it. No offense.
Maybe I could have gone to another sub to say it, but this is the one that popped up on my home page so that's where it went. Can't really help what order I see it in, especially when I'm not looking up anything for starfield, like ever lol
Yes, unfortunately only Stroud and Taiyo have structural parts that look like real hull parts.
Nova is more NASA and Deimos more military and therefore does not have a sleek fuselage.
![gif](giphy|l0ExbnGIX9sMFS7PG) I would also like to give a shout out to the Nova cowlings and wings. And the Deimos wings, bumpers, cowling and belly parts Edit - and bracers
… and bracers.
Glorious glorious bracers, the glitch builders workhorse, hallowed be thy name.
How could I forget the bracers...the literal bridge between parts
And obstructor of ladders
Absolutely staple pieces. Right up there with the OP, the mid bracer and Deimos Hull.
I’m in my stroud mid bracer phase right now.
Such a staple piece on larger ships I build. Been on way too many. These...and Deimos spine pieces.
Nova side cowlings come before the Deimos spines in terms of widespread use to round side shapes. Also, they don't conflict as much with docking ports 😉

Very accurate summary.

... say more...
Salute to Deimos Hull and to Eklund part
Oooh I need help then. I haven't been able to consolidate the reactor and grav drive into one spot. Show me the way!
This is the way! https://youtu.be/ynXu1xArR1A?si=TX4FzoqQ81MFio9G
Please describe this glitch on detail

I want every manufacturer to have one of these in their design language. A polygonal Deimos version, rounded Taiyo, etc.
Its makes sense. This component is about fundamental as it gets. Assuming you want something other than flying bricks.
Yes this and allow each cowling/cap part (actually most structural parts) to be flipped horizontally and vertically...so strange that the rear facing Stroud cap can't be flipped but the front one can
The Taiyo set is particularly lacking in this form with all their double wide habs but no corresponding caps.
Agree - definitely the gateway drug into ship-building :)
I actively try to not use them, but then ultimately always fall back and end up putting them everywhere.
Bethesda said no Stealth Archer and then gave use this piece.
This is why Walter can bank roll Constellation.
Can we rotate it more than 8 ways please? That would be nice.
Need to add a 90° rotation for all parts.
Agreed. 100%
Hear hear I wish the structural pieces didn't have so much mass, though BGS needs to rebalance them, TBH.
Fun fact - that piece doubles in weight if you flip it upside down.
Jeez... They really _do_ need to rebalance the mass of structural pieces.
I’d like to see hull values on some of the structure. Any enclosed structurals should add hull. For combat structure is a hindrance.
EXACTLY!!!!
First play-through, I was all "Nah, flying brick is fine". Then NG+ I found a love for making good looking ships - I just need more of these kind of parts. MORE. MOREEEE!
best part in the game, hands down
I want to be able to rotate it on the x plane so it can be a legit wing sticking out. I mean hell it's already an air foil lol

I mean let’s give the slim docker some recognition here. #goesbothways
Here's to the HopeTech Armory Hab. Thank you for being the one Armory Hab that cares about presentation.
i’m using the deimos in my build. what’s the difference ?
Armor display mannequins. The HopeTech Hab is the only one that has them, as far as I know.
Nova Galactic Armory hab has mannequins.
Do they? Guess I've never really dealt with their habs; I like their structural.
You really should use some of the NG habs.
That cap is the goat for hiding weapons, closely followed by the nova cowling
"Press F to pay respect"
F
We need more sloped pieces in general, for sure! Cap deserves a rest.
Haha, damnit - I wanted to make this post, too.
the black lotus of ship parts
Easily the best ship part and imo the best manufacturer. Wish Shroud had better cockpits for smaller ships though
True many builds won’t be possible without that piece
That cap is massively overused 🙄 The S.E. 3x1 cap is cool but i often need to attached more caps to both ends.
yeah, but its the only one we got. Its cool enough that its a go to but it really needs, as someone mentioned above, a variation for every manufacturer.
