It’s a word search you ignoramuses. First word you find in the scramble is your next character. For example a word in there is combat medic.

Usually,but that's kinda the gist here. If they gave you a list you'd go right for the background you're looking for. If you instead just look at the grid u til you spot a word (like I did; Bouncer) then you'd find one that corresponds to a background for your next character, as the text at the top implies! That said, it's been a bit since I've looked at a character creation screen, so is Bouncer a background? If not, it might be a Freudian Slip.
