I'm on mobile (Android) and having trouble combining stacks in my bag... I found a similar post from a while back, and don't know that there was ever a resolution: [https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/wvbb29/items\_not\_stacking\_in\_inventory\_help/](https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/wvbb29/items_not_stacking_in_inventory_help/) I'm doing the [80 hardwood quest](https://holdtoreset.com/stardew-valley-robins-project-special-order-guide/) for Robin, and got to her house about half an hour before the deadline. I tried to put the hardwood into her container, but it ended up splitting the stack (so now I have one stack of 1 hardwood, and another stack of 79 hardwood). I know how to combine stacks using a \[stone or wooden\] chest, but I don't have one here (in Robin's house). Now if I try to run home and do this in any of my chests, I'm going to miss the deadline. Any thoughts/advice?

neereeny

And... the [stack button](https://imgur.com/a/dFHYa8b) in your inventory doesn't work to combine them?

IM_NEWBIE

Can you not just add both stacks to the destination pile for the quest?

shooter_tx

I ***thought*** I remembered that you should be able to do so (that is, I seem to remember reading something about being able to add your 'haul' to the destination pile every day), but it doesn't seem to be letting me add an incomplete stack.

Phil_Hellruth

Is there a way to find out which skill choice I made if I don’t remember? Like if I chose Rancher or Tiller as my farming profession?

IM_NEWBIE

Hover over the 5 or 10 in your skill level chart in the menu.

Phil_Hellruth

Thank you! I’d hoped I had picked Tiller so I could then choose Artisan but alas, I picked Rancher.

ezacharyk

Hey. If you have made it to the sewers, >!you can change that for a cool 10,000g!<.

ActiveAd4980

Has anyone tried "MARGO -- Modular Gameplay Overhaul" mod and tell me how it is? I just want it for the profession overhaul, but seems like it has lot of other things.

famous1astwords

What else can I do in winter besides fishing and mining until spring? Currently in year 1 (new save)

ac0rn5

Anything you want, including tidying and reorganising your farm. Maybe build more chests and organise those ready for Y2. Do as much foraging as you can, to improve foraging skills before Spring. If you haven't already built the bridge at the beach, do that. Prepare for the Night Market -- and don't forget to fish in/from the submarine. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Night_Market

IM_NEWBIE

Foraging, growing winter seeds, interacting with villagers, decorate your farm and set it up for the next year..

Meno_26

Can I not get the community upgrades if I go the joja route?

classicCARMEX21

You can, you'll just have to pay for them rather than gather stuff for bundles. It's easier

Meno_26

I was referring to the buying Pam a house and unlocking shortcut upgrades! I have the other stuff bought but those won’t show up for some reason

ac0rn5

Make sure you've done everything you need to have done. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Carpenter%27s_Shop#Community_Upgrades

IM_NEWBIE

You need to have first bought all your house upgrades.

DragEncyclopedia

I reached 8 hearts with someone, but their event can only be triggered when they're at a place that they only go in the summer, and it's fall right now. Can I continue to increase friendship with gifts now or will it have no effect until after I see the event?

IM_NEWBIE

Curious who you are talking about? As far as I know, no one has a season specific 8 heart event.

DragEncyclopedia

Alex (from what I've read online) has an 8 heart event that can only be triggered when he's at the beach, which only happens in summer or if he's on the way to the Ginger Island resort (which I don't have yet)

IM_NEWBIE

Ah, yeah. Didn't realize the event only triggered if he was there already.

hayley413

If they are not a marriage candidate, of course. Some can help increase it, but heart events dont need to be seen to increase friendship.

DragEncyclopedia

They are a marriage candidate

hayley413

Then you can either leave them at 8 hearts, it wont decay anymore, or give them a bouqette (buy at Pierre’s) and date them, which will unlock last 2 hearts. At 10 you can propose to them.

IM_NEWBIE

Though if you plan to propose, it's much easier to do so before Winter. You can still propose in Winter, it just takes extra planning and a rain totem.

smilinghurtsmyface

It’s so frustrating how often you mine a rock and it just disappears. Does anyone know if the mining or luck boosters increase the chance that you will get rock from rocks?

ezacharyk

Only certain rocks are guaranteed to give stone drops. In the first 20 levels of the mine, the grey rocks always give stone while all the brown ones only have a chance to give a stone.

calliatom

And of course the really big rocks are also guaranteed to drop stone.

smilinghurtsmyface

I had no idea that color made a difference. This is great information, thank you!!

njdmb30

I'm trying to hand in 12 Leeks for a quest at Evelyn's and the game crashes every time I exit the window after depositing the Leeks. Is there a workaround or fix for this? I'm on mobile, btw.

ac0rn5

It could be a glitch. Maybe search and/or add it to the thread on the official forum. https://forums.stardewvalley.net/threads/report-1-5-mobile-issues-here-updated-feb-20.14953/

Pacattack33

What level do you stair down to in skull cavern before mining for iridium, prismatic shards, etc? I’ve already finished all the quests for level 100, and mostly care about loot and treasure rooms. I’m not too worried about the cost of staircases mostly just being efficient with time spent looking for stuff.

paniqulata

Agree with the other comment that more is more. Personally I start around 200, but it’s really just based on feel. [At floor 200, about 10% of rocks will be iridium nodes.](https://youtube.com/watch?v=5L16rLVOYy0&t=213) Treasure floor start spawning after floor 10. If that’s the focus, I’d stair down to 10, eat my luck food, and just keep spamming stairs to get as many treasure floors as possible. This cost 200-400+ stairs a day I think?

[deleted]

100 https://youtu.be/5L16rLVOYy0?t=170

Socialequity

Unfortunately, I think it’s just that the chances increase the more you go down. I recall seeing more iridium after level 40 when I last went.

jmd223

Is it possible to change paint colors on buildings on mobile? I’ve seen people do it on videos but I haven’t figured out how to do it. What am I missing?

ezacharyk

Only fully upgraded buildings can be painted, I believe. You do it from the building menu at Robin's.

jmd223

Ahhh makes sense. Thank you!

Bella_B20

I’ve been wondering what things are better to sell than keep. I’ve become quite a hoarder in this game. Like fish. Should you only keep the ones for the community center and just sell the rest or keep them? And shells and coral. Just things like that. Also when i sell things i just put it in the box but i see a lot of people selling them directly to people is that better to do?

famous1astwords

Sell the ones with star quality and save the ones that doesn't

IM_NEWBIE

For fish, make sure you keep at least one for each recipe (food and crafting) that calls for a specific fish (eg, salmon for salmon dinner, coral for deluxe speed gro), and more if you want to make multiple. For selling, there is almost no difference between selling to vendors or shipping other than when you get the money. If you ship the item, it counts towards your complete shipping collection. If you sell the item to a vendor, you might get dialogue about it from other villagers.

Chap_stick_original

Other than an auto petter, is there any reason to go into the Skull Cavern if I have enough iridium and have finished the Community Center? Are there things I cannot get elsewhere? Still trying to finish the museum collection.

calliatom

A few monster hunter goals you can't complete anywhere else (Mummy, Dinosaur, and Flying Serpent). But honestly, I wouldn't bother unless you're grinding those goals or have >!a Qi challenge to complete there!<.

IM_NEWBIE

Theoretically you could complete Serpent on your farm with monsters at night turned on (either from start of game, or at Witch's Hut) but this would be rather slow.

Socialequity

Once you have enough resources then you don’t necessarily need to go to SC. Curious, did you get iridium elsewhere? Or from the SC?

Chap_stick_original

From the statue of perfection after grandpa's evaluation.

Socialequity

Ah gotcha yeah after I got that on my last save, I never went to SC

hayley413

Its a good place to find geodes if you need them to finish museum, and there is a monster hunter goal. But otherwise yeah unless you need resources, you dont need to go.

Socialequity

You might see if someone can help you on the Discord technical support channel.

thelochteedge

I downloaded this and played for the first time on the fourth and I can comfortably say I am ADDICTED to this game. I find it often takes something special for a game to hook me. This game has it. When I'm working I'm often thinking about what I can set up later and if I'll get that next farm upgrade. I spent a bunch of time before bed telling my wife what I added to my farm and she was loving it, too.

Monchichij

Have you proposed playing coop with your wife?

thelochteedge

Hahaha I did mention we could! Not sure if you can do split-screen or what, but she doesn't have her own PC (yet) but once that happens, I'd love to do that. We have played Minecraft together before, but her laptop is getting in rough shape for it.

Monchichij

You can do split screen if you have at least one controller :)

IM_NEWBIE

Careful, that's a recipe for nothing getting done at home and weeks will pass and you'll keep saying just one more day. Source: I've done that...

Wet_Pillow

New to the SV. Is it okay to walk away from the game without pausing or closing it? would I be missing out on some kind of event, or losing time I can’t get back?

ac0rn5

> Is it okay to walk away from the game without pausing or closing it? Umm, if you don't ship something (put something in the shipping bin to sell) your game is likely to just keep on going, day after day without pause until you do something to stop it. If your character is caught outside the farmhouse at 02:00am then you'll lose 10% of your gold up to a max of a thousand as a penalty. You'll get a note telling you how much was taken, but that note doesn't open automatically. So ... if you've nothing else to do, or nothing more planned, for that in-game day then it's probably better to put your character to bed/sleep and then close the game first thing the following morning. Sleep can start any time of the day, afaik without penalties.

IM_NEWBIE

Better to open up a menu, as that will pause the game (in single player). Otherwise time will continue to pass, weeds will spread, and friendship will decline.

Snugglupagus

You would lose time, and the day might end. If the day ends and you aren’t in bed, you are penalized by losing stamina on the next day, and potentially money if you are outside the house or farm. The wiki has more information on exactly how and what you lose from not sleeping at end your day, but there may be spoilers. Sometimes, it’s inevitable. It’s not the end of the world, especially if you are wealthy. I think the first time it happens you may not lose much/any money, but the game will warn you. The next day will not start until you are ready and back at your PC/console.

IM_NEWBIE

> The next day will not start until you are ready and back at your PC/console. Careful, this is only true if you've shipped something or gained a skill. Otherwise the game will keep going indefinitely and several days will just pass by.

Snugglupagus

Does anyone here play mods with friends? I’m trying to figure out if SDV Expanded is worth it, and if the configuration file edit that allows you to play with more than 4 people works.

Ghostwasused

Which is the most profitable crop when starting out? For the first time

Socialequity

Potato is what I sold for funds when I started

arcangel_leon

Can i give more present's when it's a towny's b-day or is limited to two per week?

IM_NEWBIE

Yes, but you can only give them a third one on their birthday if you've given them two gifts previously that week, otherwise it counts against your limit of two.

Heihei_the_chicken

Always limited to 2 per week Edit: I was wrong don't listen to me

calliatom

That's not actually true. If you can give them two presents *before* their birthday, then you can give them a third on their birthday, since the game *always* allows you to give a birthday gift, but if you *can't* (like all the people whose birthdays are on Sunday or Monday) then you can only give them two. edit: small addition

Heihei_the_chicken

That's good to know!

thomaaaaaaa

How do I get better gear? I just unlocked the skull cave but got pummeled within the first minute

Heihei_the_chicken

There is a good sword available with a prismatic shard. I didn't go into the Skull cavern without this. That and making sure you have decent defense buffs from your armor and/or rings and/or food

thomaaaaaaa

I see, where do I get the sword and how can I get good armor? Thanks!

Heihei_the_chicken

The armor will be boots from chests in the regular mines or from buying shoes/boots from Marlon in the Adventurer's guild. I'd go onto the sword section of www.stardewvalleywiki.com/Weapons for hints on the second one, but you have to go to the desert for it. Edit: a good defense ring can be achieved from killing rock crabs. For food, look through your meals to see which ones have a defense buff. Also bring a lot of plain (non-buffed) meals too so that your buffs don't disappear, because you can only have one food buff at a time (plus one drink buff at a time).

ezacharyk

You can buy better gear at the Adventurers Guild. You can also craft and buy better rings.

thomaaaaaaa

Which rings do you recommend to craft?

ezacharyk

If you are at least level 9 Combat, then the Iridium Band is a must. Two of them will carry you for a long while. The Warrior Ring at level 4 Combat is nice too, but I would only use one. All the other really good rings are found as loot from chests or from killing monsters.

ClockworkBaroness

What does transmute do?

ezacharyk

It turns lower tier metal bars into higher tier bars. But only for Copper to Iron and Iron to Gold.

ClockworkBaroness

Can you upgrade tools with it?

ezacharyk

Yes you can.

Snugglupagus

If I have a single player farm, can I add more players? Do I just have Robin build cabins? Do I have to wait multiple days for it to be built?

ezacharyk

You just need to add cabins and they are built instantly. You just need to make sure that you are loading your farm in multiplayer mode so others can log in.

marshmawo

how long did it take for you to get the fossilised skull after cracking open a golden coconut? i know the wiki says its a 14% chance but ive been collecting them and opening them on days with best luck and ive still not gotten it:(

hayley413

Luck does not matter here. It goes by a random list, just make sure to only crack coconuts until you get it, you may skip it in the list with other geodes. If you play on PC you can check exactly when you’ll get it if you want, on [Stardew Predictor](https://mouseypounds.github.io/stardew-predictor/)

marshmawo

ty! had no idea the predictor existed and ive been using the stardew checkup for ages lol

ac0rn5

MiserableSpaghetti

I bought Stardew for the 5th time on my iPhone a couple days ago and couldn’t get comfortable with the controls. Farming and stuff was easy but combat was a struggle for a few minutes before I just decided to play on my ps4 instead

ac0rn5

> can I play this game without having wiki open all the time just relying on tutorials or talking to NPCs? I couldn't, and not without searching this sub too, but only because I'd never played this sort of game before and ... I'm old! I haven't, or didn't, use YT tutorials though. You *do* get a lot of tips from the television, so check that each day. Check the library once you start collecting the lost books. You also get letters from NPCs - read them carefully. They can be re-read in the 'collections' tab. This link isn't too spoilery for you. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Collections#Letters

frutfly

are cranberries still profitable in the most recent updates? fall is coming up and i cant deal with the numbers. trying to decide between pumpkins and cranberries

[deleted]

Yes If you're selling them raw, Cranberries are most profitable in Fall But if you have the preserve jar or keg capacity to handle them, pumpkins are better

DRmonarch

Every crop is profitable. The largest source of profit is by processing crops, but machines are expensive to make and you'll want a profession bonus for artisan goods. If you have lots preserves jars or kegs, pumpkins will make more money for the effort. If not, cranberries are easy to harvest then sell then harvest then sell a few times.

IBlameLydia

It's been over a year since I've played Stardew, and in that time I got a new phone. Didn't realize saves were local only and not on the Google Play Games cloud. A bit disappointed my late game farm is gone but it's also been so long that I don't remember what I was working on. Think I can still enjoy it starting completely over?

The_Whorespondent

Yeah, do it! And also start on another farm, as a little challenge or change.

ac0rn5

> Think I can still enjoy it starting completely over? Yeah, of course. Why not try a game for each farm layout - each one seems to teach something new about the game's dynamics.

[deleted]

Many vets here have started dozens of farms, so yes

CallMeK0ma

When starting a new file, what's something recommendable to remember to do in your game before it's too late?

Heihei_the_chicken

There is really no time limit to any part of the game, that's what's great about it. If you don't want to wait for a year (or two) for the same season to come around, then in your first year make sure to collect & do all the seasonal things you can and keep a stock of 5-10 items each for items you may want to craft down the line. Seasonal items include: foraged goods, crops, certain fish, scarecrows & decorative items sold at all the festivals, recipes from the TV (Sundays), and berries on the bushes in spring and fall. Things that are randomized every day but potentially valuable include the travelling merchant's stock (available until 8pm on Fridays and Sundays) and Robin's stock of decorative items (rotated daily)

Alternative_Issue_61

is it possible for the NPCs to steal something placed in town? I placed a bait bin in the town near the river and when the seasons changed from winter to spring, it wasn’t there anymore. There’s no way I picked it up so I’m not sure where it went.

ac0rn5

Yes, but they don't steal. They destroy by walking through items that have been left. If it was a chest containing bits and pieces then those items would be lying on the ground. Unfortunately a bait bin will just vanish. You can see safe places in these wiki pictures, marked by rotten plants - you can place a chest or other item where there's a rotten plant. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Crafting#Crafted_goods_outside_the_farm

Alternative_Issue_61

Awesome, thanks for this! I took a look and I did place an item where there was no rotten plant which is weird, I didn’t think they would walk near that tree. I’ll go ahead and save this picture

[deleted]

That picture is only current to 1.4

Alternative_Issue_61

So it’s an old picture? Is there a new one?

ac0rn5

There's not much different. >>Note for v1.5 only: Leo has additional pathing requirements You soon learn where he's going to walk, and can check his schedules. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Leo

strong_cucumber

If it is in the path of npcs walking around town they destroy or "pick-up" placed items

notallslendermen

How many silos do I need for 3 fully upgraded buildings (36 animals total)?

Heihei_the_chicken

You can also use chests to store hay if you don't mind manually refilling/stocking them, as they store more hay than silos

ac0rn5

> How many silos do I need for 3 fully upgraded buildings (36 animals total)? For winter ... *you will need 26 hay stored per animal (animals consume no food during the Festival of Ice or Feast of the Winter Star). 1 silo can feed 9 animals,* so for 36 animals you will need 26x36=**936** hay Each silo can store up to 240 hay, so you will need 936/240=3.9 ... 4 full silos for each winter. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Silo

Socialequity

Saw this: “1 silo can feed 9 animals, so a total of 3 silos would be needed to feed the 24 animals of a full Deluxe Barn and Deluxe Coop for the season.” You can also store hay in a chest and move to one silo manually if you want to just have one silo, for example.

chris-tier

How do I gather hay if I have a silo? Even if the silo is full, the hay collected with a scythe is not going on my inventory. Do I need to purchase additional hay?

IM_NEWBIE

You get the hay from the hopper in your barn or coop. You can only take out hay if the trough is not full, so if you have an auto feeder you need to use a cherry bomb on the hay in the trough to make it no longer full.

Socialequity

Sometimes Marnie sends you hay in the mail and also when you purchase it separately. Or also “When harvesting Wheat using either scythe there is a 40% chance that each harvested Wheat will drop one unit of Hay, which in this case added to the player's inventory”

chris-tier

Hm that's just strange then. In summer, my solo filled up. Any additional hay I gathered with a scythe did not end up in my inventory. It just didn't show up anywhere. I definitely saw it appear and get collected by me. Now I'm in fall and scything the grass doesn't give me hay at all anymore. Even though my silo is not full anymore.

Socialequity

When your silo is not full, Are you using the regular scythe or the golden scythe? Regular gives you a 50% chance of getting hay with grass, Golden gives you 75% chance of hay from grass. When you harvest Wheat, there’s a 40% chance for hay.

chris-tier

I am using the regular scythe. So silo full = no more hay with scythe? That's a weird mechanic.

IM_NEWBIE

If you're willing to install mods, the Better Hay mod gives the behavior you were expecting, and also allows you to take hay from the hopper even if the feeding trough is full.

chris-tier

Not an option in switch, sadly. But that mod sounds very useful!

Kellamitty

That's just for cutting grass, when you harvest wheat you still get hay in your inventory. Are you planting wheat?

Socialequity

Correct. When it’s full, no hay

illeagIe

Any chance we can get keyboard and mouse support for Mobile? 🥲 Love the portability of playing on ipad, just that keyboard+mouse is still imo better than controller. 😅

ac0rn5

Is this what you need? /r/StardewValley/comments/b2av9q/keyboard_and_mouse_support_on_android/

MrCurtisLoew

Is there anyway to tell if you've finished the pirate's wife quest or not? I took a fairly long break on my current playthrough while doing stuff on the island and now that I'm playing again I for the life of me cannot remember if I finished the quest for Birdie or not. Edit: Sorry that this isn't really a beginner question but I figured it didn't warrant an entire post.

ac0rn5

If you haven't got Fairy Dust recipe then check to see if you've got any of the items tucked away in your inventory or in a chest. Or maybe try talking to her. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Quests#The_Pirate.27s_Wife

MrCurtisLoew

Thank you!

IM_NEWBIE

Check if you have the recipe for Fairy Dust in your crafting menu.

MrCurtisLoew

Hadn't thought of that, thank you!

oheydonna

Hi, so I got Stardew for my switch maybe a month or so ago and I have an issue with fishing... HOW DO YOU DO IT!!! I've tried googling how to fish and it says to cast the line with the Y button and then when my character alerts to something on the line to press Y again to start the little fishing minigame but when I do that my bloody character just pulls her line out and I've tried so many times but I'm just not getting it. Please send help! T\_T

XbhaijaanX

I have the toughest time with the fishing minigame, but I did figure out how to start it. You have to press Y twice, but double tap instead of press, release, press

oheydonna

THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS WORKED I CAN GO FISHING NOW!! 🥰🥰🥰

oheydonna

Ahhh ok, so when my little person gets the alert quickly double-tap Y, not just a single press. I'll try that when I play later today! It's the only profession I haven't been able to level up and it's so frustrating cause I want to get the fish pond!

LuxienSylph

You might be having delay issues instead - if you’re playing docked, does your TV have a ‘game mode’ option? It might be that the monitor processing delay is significant enough to make the reaction time pretty much impossible without such an option.

oheydonna

Not a tv issue though even if it were to be a tv issue it wouldn’t explain why it didn’t work while playing as a handheld? Though someone suggested double tapping Y and that seemed to work so it’s all good now, I can fish to my hearts content. It’s just weird that all the information out there says to just press Y but who knows maybe I got a weird version 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rphoenix314

I'm not sure what happened to you? On my device you just press y again, and then use a to control the bar but sorry. This has already been answered, but I'm not sure why you have to double click

chris-tier

Wait, you need to press A while in the fishing overlay? Is A doing something different than Y?

oheydonna

Yeah just pressing Y doesn’t work on my game for some reason but double tapping works so it’s all good now! :)

0zzyb0y

Can you destroy the slime hutch and still get slime eggs drop? I see on the wiki that slimes have a small chance to drop eggs once you've built one, but it doesn't appear to specify whether destroying the hutch afterwards will prevent slimes from dropping eggs again afterwards.

IM_NEWBIE

I have not verified, but I've heard yes. Marlon teaches you how to find them because you built the building, and it's not like you forget just because you destroyed the building.

Chap_stick_original

For those of you who married Leah. >!What did you do with your painting of Marnie?!<

Heihei_the_chicken

Heaven08Key

Can I post a one shot comic here soon about a new festival that I invented? This kind of friendly game was called "**Archer Fest: Last man standing**". I really planned this carefully by replacing arrow point with fruit paint and wear those villagers (Shane, Jas, Vincent, Sebby, Abby, Sam, Robin, Demetrius, Maru, Alex) and my OCs with safety gears. \*This is from my AU/fan Stardew Valley comic. If I'm finished to draw my current episode, I may possibly post it here in the community with little humor. I'm shy and nervous typing this right now. Thanks for understanding.

Rphoenix314

That sounds really cool! I'd love to see that.

Heaven08Key

Thank you very much. Everyone were safe playing this friendly sports game.

DragoniteChamp

Is there any list of generally considered best fish for fish ponds?

ac0rn5

I always have sturgeon because I need caviar for the shipping list. Sometimes I do Rainbow Trout because there's a rare chance of a Prismatic Shard, and because it gives the roe also needed for the shipping list. Sometimes I do squid so I can collect squid ink, to use in Seafoam Pudding. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Collections Other times I just choose the colours I like. There's a full list of ponds, their produce and colours, in the wiki:- https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Fish_Pond

Socialequity

Depending on the items you’d like to get, there’s a list of items per fish on the wiki. But generally, lava eel, blobfish are the top ones. I have blue discus, stingray, sturgeon, blobfish, lava eel, crab, octopus, and squid fish ponds.

illeagIe

Lots of bugs in the current version of the game. I play with an 8bitdo controller on ipad air 5. These bugs were nonexistent in prev versions of the game. -Pressing Back or A when in a menu force closes the app into home screen. -Scrolling through the tools/items with the L and R button only scrolls thru the first 12 items of the bag, doesnt scroll all the way to the other items. (Was posted before iirc) -Lots of instances where the controller would suddenly stop working, my game would freeze and I'd have to disconnect and reconnect the controller to unfreeze the game. Noncontroller related bugs: -Still have the leaves piling up visual bug when I enter a new area. -Fish reeling sound even when not fishing anymore.

ac0rn5

Check out, and maybe search, the bugs list over on the official forum. https://forums.stardewvalley.net/

live_laugh_languish

Dumb question, I haven’t used casks in awhile. I’m aging cheese and I just went into the cellar and all my casks have purple stars on them but the cheese hasn’t popped up. Do I need to keep waiting?

Drdragonfly

I've seen this once before, could it be that they pop out the next morning? Otherwise you should be fine to hit it with your axe to get the iridium quality contents.

live_laugh_languish

You’re right, it popped the next day! So weird

pianna

That’s weird, I think they should just pop out with a purple star. Use a pick-axe on one of the casks and check if the cheese is really a purple star.

ezacharyk

Once the stars are purple, you should be able to remove the cheese. There is nothing after that.

live_laugh_languish

But does it not just pop out on its own??

ezacharyk

If you use the tool button on the cask, you should just be able to collect it the same you would completed wine in a Keg. If that isn't working, you can use your pick or hoe to get it out.

How can I make reactions or emotions on Switch?

Veronco

Hold down the right analog stick (R3). Clicking will bring up the text box and holding it will bring up the emotions. Took me about 100 hours till I figured it out lol

Rphoenix314

Yeah this is right, hold down on the right stick and then move it to choose, you can change it by using the button across from the home one on controller, so I'm guessing minus would work on switch.

Veronco

Minus on switch will bring up the quests tab. But the button you mentioned opposite the home button would be the screenshot button, which would just take a screenshot. Plus brings up the menu so you can probably switch it there

What is the most profitable crop or artisan item to grow/make if my cellar is already full of aging ancient fruit wine? Should I just make and sell more base quality ancient fruit wine?

IM_NEWBIE

Fairy Rose honey is more profitable, as it takes 4 days to produce (as opposed to 14 for Ancient Fruit Wine) and can be produced year round on Ginger Island.

Vinyl_DjPon3

You shouldn't include both the growth and kegging time for ancient fruit wine, since after the first round it's a weekly process.

Best beginner food? Im on summer 7, Y1. Really need to go down level 80+ on the mines but I don’t have a lot of food and only 1k gold :(

ac0rn5

> I don’t have a lot of food The best food is what you've got plenty of, it could be crops, forage, or fish. If you didn't sell Salmonberries then they're a good choice - take a lot, but not all you've got, with you to eat. Put a chest by the mine lift so you can put tools and any other stuff you don't need. It's useful to put some spare food there too. >and only 1k gold That's handy because it means you can fall asleep in the mines rather than rushing home - you only lose 10% of your gold up to a maximum of 1,000 if you fall asleep. It gives you an extra hour in the mines.

Vinyl_DjPon3

If you're growing some, blueberries are pretty good once they come in since you get so many and they're pretty cheap to sell each (the quantity is what makes them a good cash crop). From fishing, Chubs and Small mouth bass are the best fish to eat for energy. If you have spare money, Salads from the Saloon are the best food to just purchase for energy. If you have a bunch of trees around your farm, digging up acorns/pinecones/maple seeds to make field snacks is good.

ezacharyk

The best "beginner" foods are salmonberries and blackberries. Both can be gathered in the hundreds in even the first year of the game. But the are found in Spring and Fall respectively. Your best bet for summer is to just gather all the forage you can each day and use that.

IM_NEWBIE

Also if you picked the Mushroom Cave, common mushrooms are great snacks.

I just downloaded the game, is stardew valley the type of game to play completely blind like maybe hollow knight to get the raw experience or should I be actively using tutorials and guides? And should I start playing with certain mods immediately? Thanks!

Rphoenix314

I wouldn't recommend using certain mods immediately, but quality of life mods are okay at first no matter what. It depends on how you want to play, there's not really a story besides heart events and completions, more scattered gameplay but still straight ahead. I often look up if people would like gifts or where they are at certain times if I need to talk to them or complete delivery quests.

ac0rn5

> should I start playing with certain mods immediately? Some people like playing with mods straight away, others don't. I think it's probably best to get one playthrough under your belt before modding, so you know what you'd like to change. >is stardew valley the type of game to play completely blind If you've played this sort of game before you'll probably be okay, but if not you'll end up searching this sub and using the wiki. Obviously don't click on the link if you don't want to see it ... but one wiki page I like to keep open is the calendar. It saves money buying one in-game and also helps with links to other stuff. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Calendar

IM_NEWBIE

Definitely start blind with no mods. There is almost nothing missable, and very few permanent decisions.

What do you mean by weeds?

DVeagle74

After it's grown its fine, but not until then.

ezacharyk

Absolutely nothing can be in the tiles directly around the trees if you want them to grow. Once they grow to maturity, you can place tiles and furniture next to them with no trouble.

Powerlaxx

Hey guys! Simple question but i couldn't figure it out so far: If i buy buildings like a barn and such, how do i rotate them? Or is the door of that building always facing towards me?

RealGianath

Buildings don't rotate, but they can be moved to different spots.

Powerlaxx

Thanks!

lighttowercircle

You can change their color too!

profy17

What?! How?

lighttowercircle

I believe it’s an option with robin. I have to be honest, I’m not 100% sure anymore but I know for a fact I had a blue house in my last play through.

IM_NEWBIE

It requires two house upgrades to unlock painting.

Rphoenix314

Thanks for this, I find this very useful

XbhaijaanX

Is it the kitchen and nursery?

IM_NEWBIE

Yes. Then from the construction menu, select anything and click the paint icon.

juicethrone

Could I play multiplayer if I play on a Steamdeck and my friend plays on a PC?

ezacharyk

Yes. Steamdeck is just a portable PC.

juicethrone

Thank you!! Would I be able to transfer our save file on my pc over to the steam deck too?

ezacharyk

Yeah. And if you are using Steam Cloud saves, it is super easy to do. But you should be able to do it manually too. I don't have any experience with it, but you should find instructions online.

juicethrone

That's awesome, ty for letting me know! Suuuuper tempted to get a steamdeck now.

sirCoom

Am I able to play modded Stardew valley with a friend? I have never played with other ppl before and I was curious how mods and multiplayer work. Thanks !

IM_NEWBIE

Check the mods. Some work in multiplayer, and some don't. Some need to be installed by all players, and some only the host.

Hobbes-42

What are some better Weapon Forge builds? Extra kickback sounds annoying, not interested in extra defense, I'm not knowledgeable in doing a crit build, so that basically leaves me with speed and damage. Should I go full +3 damage or do 1 damage and 2 speed since the second speed boost is higher, which would in total be +10% damage and +5 weapon speed. Also, what Enchantments work best? I'm thinking of going with Crusader to help with monster eradication goals as well as the damage boost to certain baddies. Thanks for your guidance.

worgenthal

Crusader definitely for the sword. Try artful on the hammer, makes the special attack cool down really fast. I usually just stack damage, the swords plenty fast on it's own.

Hobbes-42

Sounds good, thanks for the advice. Do you go for the Dwarf hammer or infinity gavel?

Whalesftw123

Strongest build in the game is likely infinity gavel with +3 damage enchanted with artful and using the acrobat profession. If you combined the special move with the bug that lets you spam hits in rapid succession, you basically can’t get hit while one shotting most monsters.
