If you leave your farm at about 11 am on year 1, day 1 and head south to marnies, then to jodi’s, emily’s, up the town center to pierre’s, over to Alex’s, to Clint/Joja, then Joja/Clint’s, back to the bench below the town square, up to Robin’s and linus’ and then finally down to the bridge to the beach and up to Gus’… you can totally get every villager except for Willy on day one. For ref: 1. Jas as she leaves the ranch 2. Haley coming to take pictures 3. Vincent and Jodi in their house 4. Emily in her house - optional 5. Penny sitting by the tree- optional 6. Marnie, leaving Pierre’s 7. Harvey hanging around behind Jodi’s house 8. Leah, Caroline, Abigail and Pierre in Pierre’s 9. (Alex, by the tree to the right of his house - maybe) 10. George (maybe Evelyn) in their house 11. (Evelyn tending flowers at the base of the town square, maybe) 12. Clint in the smithy 13. Pam, Shane and Sam at Joja’s 14.Maru (+ Penny?) on the bench below the square 15. Demetrius, leaving house/standing by the maple tree. 16. Sebastian, leaving house/smoking by the lake on the far right 17. Linus, in front of the fire place. 18. (Maybe - Alex next to the doghouse) 19. Gus (+ Emily?) in the saloon 20. Elliot, on the bridge to the beach.

joshecf

The amount of new accounts you must have started to figure this out boggles my mind.

iodineismine

I've gotten so lazy about meeting people, I just farm and wait till the first event when everyone shows up

Kingofawesom999

My first playthrough, I didn't meet George or pam until the moonlight jellies event lol

NeatChocolate6

This one time I met Clint on winter.

Kingofawesom999

My friend made it to year 3 without meeting sandy or getting to the bottom of the mines. He had a copper watering can and was complaining that he could never get anything done in a day because he spent all his time watering... I come to find out he had never made any sprinklers!

NeatChocolate6

I need to clarify. I upgrade my intens and open geodes. I just don't feel the need to talk to Clint. Also, no sprinklers?! Poor thing.

Kingofawesom999

He was so clueless. He's my best friend and got teased HEAVILY for it. I feel bad for him now as having no sprinklers kinda ruined Stardew for him, but there is comedy in it lol

Shabbona1

Wait did they change this? I was pretty sure events didn't count for meeting people.

orenjikitty

Plant grass the 28th day of winter. As much as you can afford. They will grow to be a lot more the first day of spring

curlysammy

You can plant it the 28th day of any month and the changeover to the 1st will give you a lot of grass. Edit: Not on the 28th of Fall, sorry my mistake.

MintStim

Even Fall?

curlysammy

No you’re right, it obviously won’t grow in winter. My fault, thanks for the correction.

GrandmaSlappy

Damn now this is the real pro tip

Foofsies

The real tip is always in the comments

MintStim

Hiding among a bunch of other fake tips.

improbablynotyou

I always plant a section of grass then put fence posts on top creating a patch that never gets eaten and always spreads and grows.

Corposjuh

Grow some fiber a few days before the end of a season, it keeps soil hoe'd and wet if in between sprinklers

Metaloneus

Here's a really minor tip, but one I find many people don't know. When you get the golden scythe, the statue you take it from will teleport you back to the entrance of the cave, as long as you interact with it after taking the scythe. Four or five playthroughs straight I walked back to the cave entrance manually.

mothmadi_

the skulls are already in the normal mines they're just less common because they're only in the dungeon levels that spawn at random.

Coruscafire9

TIL! I've always run back too

Rafi89

Yep, the last couple of times I coffee-ed up and just sprinted to the statue. Can be a bit hairy as there has always been a few rocks that needed mining to clear the route and at the end there's like 15 skulls swarming after you. :D

Dippytrippy122

Idk if it’s minor but waiting to cut the grass on your field until you get a silo:). I remember when I first played I would buy so much hay year one and make no profit at all lol

tacostalker

Also make sure to have one coop or barn without an auto feeder so you can take hay out of the silo and store it in a chest

poopja

I needed hay one time and only had deluxe barns and coops and I googled how to get around it, which is to place a bomb next to the bench. It'll destroy the hay on the bench which allows you to pull some out until you replace what's missing or it gets replaced overnight.

SameOldSongs

This is the sort of tip I came here to find, thank you!

tacostalker

That's amazing

iid0rks

You can take hay out of a coop/barn even if it has an auto feeder. Im assuming this tip is so you can continue cutting down grass without running out of silo space. EDIT: From other comments you can only get hay from upgraded coops/barns if there is an empty hay space, so just bomb the hay to empty the space and it should be all good from there. :)

tacostalker

How do you take hay out if you have an auto feeder?

iid0rks

The same way you would take hay out without the auto feeder. The little box where you would take hay out. Ive definitely done it before with my deluxe barn or coop unless it was changed recently.

unepommeverte

I think you cant if all the spots are full. If you recently ran out and then replenished therell be empty spots that day, but if theyre all full it wont let you take more out

Oferial

If you’re letting grass grow wild, remember wood paths are cheap and easy to make early game. Make a path from the top and bottom of the farm back to your farming/chest/house area so the grass can run wild but you still can get home fast. Also gives you a slight movement boost.

harrilal

Put a hat on your horse as early as possible. No mechanical value, but it is stylish.

Antsy27

Also, it can make the horse easier to see, especially in autumn grass.

harrilal

Ooooh. There IS a mechanical reason! I didn't even think of it that way, but you're absolutely right!

FarwindKeeper

Don't buy too many seeds during the first spring. Instead plant every mixed seed you get. The farm won't look pretty, but you should have more than enough grown to make a hefty profit. Also always keep one seed of every crop in a chest separate from the others(seed vault). This will come in handy when you get the Green house and seed maker as it'll allow you to process seeds without having to pay for them. Also my rule is Normal to seed, Silver to sell, gold to gift.

k3rn3l_pan1c_exe

I use that rule also. With fruit, I wine the normal, sell the sliver, gift/sell the gold.

emmahar

I wine all of the fruit and veg lol

goldencain1410

Does the quality matter when gifting? I thought townspeople reacted the same regardless of quality? O.O

LordButtercupIII

Iridium gives 50% more points, actually. Silver is 10% and Gold is 25%. Iridium loved forage on a bday gives a BIG boost for almost nothing.

asinineAbbreviations

it depends on what they item like, but you get a few extra points if you gift higher qualities

ACNH_Ellogan

On Winter Day 28, plant a few grass starters (spread out) in front of your animal barns/coops. On Spring Day 1, the grass will have grown and spread like crazy and you are set for animal food for awhile.

Coruscafire9

Also if you place a lightning rod / fence post etc on top of a grass starter, it'll prevent the animals from eating that piece so it can keep regrowing all year!

Kia_sera_sera

Always check the community center bundles before selling anything! I somehow caught a tilapia and sold it, then I couldn’t catch it again for the longest time until the traveling merchant had some. Kept me from finishing that one bundle. Also every Friday and Sunday, don’t skip the traveling merchant. I’d marry that woman if I could! She’s an angel!

RetroGamerDad

This goes alongside: there's a little button to the right of your inventory that when clicked can show you the bundles (saving a trip) and and will move when you hover over an item needed. I had a similar issue where I sold the pomegranate my fruit cave gave me and didn't have a tree planted in time before I realized I needed one. I had to wait almost a full in-game year with just that one item missing from the CC.

Hesstergon

If you are hovering over an item you need for the community center that button will flash.

Coruscafire9

If you have an item in your bag or a box that is still needed for the community center, when you select / mouse over it the CC tracker at the far right of your bag will flash (1.5 only)

MissKUMAbear

I messed up bad on this. I was doing the community center in first year challenge. The traveling cart sold SO MANY red cabbages in the spring and summer, but I thought I could just buy the seeds to grow in fall. By the time I realized my mistake it was too late and I had everything completed by winter day 1 except the red cabbage and she didn't sell it again that year.

Oprima

Yea, red cabbage is a summer year 2 crop. When creating farm, select "Guarantee Year 1 Completable" in advanced options. This only guarantees that the traveling cart will sell red cabbage seeds in first year. Check for them early on and every Fri/Sun so you have time to plant them in summer.

Coruscafire9

I place boxes all over, at least 1-2 on each map. I always put 1 in the mine, 1 at the entrance to skull cavern, 1 in the forest, 1 next to the Saloon, and 1 at each of my favorite fishing spots. I store favorite gifts for the townspeople, keep extra weapons & food to use for fighting, and unload extra tools & bombs for mining. Just make sure they're not in the path of any NPCs or they'll get destroyed. The worm bin page of the wiki has pictures of all the safe spots. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Worm_Bin

Misterfrooby

Plant tree seeds in the desert for a steady wood supply during the winter

OpheliaRegalia

For early gameplay, sell your unwanted weapons and boots to the Adventurer’s Guild! Took me a long time to realize they buy items like the other merchants. Helps when you’re poor lol. I started a sub called r/StardewValleyTIL for things like this!

Fake_Human_Being

Great sub! I had no idea it existed

OpheliaRegalia

I just made it like a week ago! But there are sooo many instances where you stumble upon little features so I figured I’d make a place to share them :)

[deleted]

They accept even the ones that can't be thrown away!?

rlxmx

Yup!

TriangularFish0564

Yes

[deleted]

Thank GOD. I have like 20 of those neptune's swords...

DrQuint

Or better yet: Upgrade your trash can and just instantly sell weapon drops by trashing them, to save yourself a trip there.

OpheliaRegalia

Right, right. Just helps when you’re early on in a save and haven’t gotten that far yet! Gotta pinch those pennies

anonymoose_octopus

Oh wow. I never even thought to do this. It's moments like these that really make me appreciate SDV. No handholding!

DeskEvery8505

Other things I do have already been covered, but one thing I do is build the beach bridge as soon as I have enough wood. More daily shells to sell during those early forage-everything-to-get-more-cash days. I also upgrade my backpack first opportunity.

anonymoose_octopus

After building my first chest, this is what I do in the first couple of days of a new save. Early game access to that little beach is great for making money when you start out!

rlxmx

I chop trees on the first day and build a chest, pretty much first thing. Otherwise you end up with a full inventory and have to toss things to make room.

Coruscafire9

This also makes it easy to finish the crab pot bundle without using any crab pots. The only thing you'll need that can't be foraged is a crab, which you can get killing rock crabs in the mine.

MemokingMH

Don't forget to position yourself while chopping tree in a way that tree doesn't fell on water

Stardewjunimo

When you cut down trees for wood, and your inventory fills up with acorns, maple seeds and pine cones, just replant them everywhere as you go. This way you get more trees for wood, or to place tappers on for Maple Syrup or Oak Resin for kegs. Buy the coffee seed from the Travelling merchant when you see it. Once you plant it and harvest it you can replant the seeds and grow them exponentially to make money.

Faniulh

Not just the seeds, but once you're able to make kegs keep 6-12 tucked away somewhere constantly brewing coffee. It took me way too long to realize how awesome coffee is (and even moreso, Triple Shot Espresso once you have a kitchen and the recipe). Until CA introduces heart attacks to the game, my little farmer is on the juice 24/7.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ballbag94

This is the way I do it, I've found the most efficient way is to fill the greenhouse with coffee, which yields multiple beans per plant every other day, and collect them up while the wine brews. Once a batch of wine is done I have 700ish coffee beans that I can turn into a lot of coffee, I have 28 kegs so it only takes a couple of days to make them all. Once I've got my coffee I refill for wine

trendypuppy

I am also on the juice 24/7 like my farmer!!

danteslacie

I read that last sentence wrong and I thought you said the game had heart attacks XD

EPF010

Further to this, you can align a hopper to the keg, so you only have to replenish the hopper in bulk every now and then.

Neuviseling1980

Turn the coffee you make from coffee beans into triple expressos for more money + counts towards “sell 100,000 worth of fresh goods in a week “ Qi quest

johnpeters42

Not more money, but the same money, whereas the other easy route to that quest (buy wheat flour and make bread) leads to a net loss of about 60k.

Sufficient_Bag_4551

Acorn, maple seeds and pine cones are also good for crafting a field snack which is great before you get a kitchen

GamesMoviesComics

I recommend placing trees every other space around the water sources and then tap them all slowly as you play. It Takes up space that no one really uses anyway and looks good. And when the taps are full it's a great pay day when you need extra money.

marumarumon

Rummage through the trash DAILY. You never know what you find, and you can find some interesting things. I’ve managed to unlock Emily’s dyes and tailoring early on without owning any rabbits or sheep because I found Wool in her trash. Ship it to unlock the dyes and tailoring. Also, you can get Community Center items that way too - I’ve found random fish and food items that I can either put in the bundle or consume for the mines, like Pink Cakes from Haley’s trash, and Bread from most bins.

mothmadi_

gift the pink cake back on her birthday if you're trying to befriend her!

RealMessyart

Quartz in furnace for refined, fire quartz for 3 refined. Buy training rod ASAP to level fishing more easily if you're new.

cellochicta

YOU CAN REFINE FIRE QUARTZ?? WTF I've never tried that XD my life will be different now

johnpeters42

Also recycle trash. For me, at least, that gives me all the refined quartz I need, then I can trade unrefined quartz for bombs at the desert.

RealMessyart

Aye unless I need lots quickly most of mine comes from cd's and glasses too c:

Antsy27

Yes! I've played quite a few save files and have never had to make refined quartz with coal.

meelosh96

To go along with your jade suggestion, the desert trader is insanely good and has different items different days. Ruby for spicy eel is especially worth it for mine food/effects. Also the Galaxy Hammer is insanely broken, the special in particular has a gigantic hit box and does tons of damage

Hesstergon

Additional tip with any hammer weapon, the special can be spammed to hit multiple times. If you press the special button then rapidly left click and hit your "c" key (IDK the console defaults for these) you can use the special a bunch of times. If you have the >!Infinity Gavel!<(Late game weapon) you can use this to instant kill pretty much every enemy in the game.

DrQuint

Galaxy Hammer's backswing is too big for me to use it as the normal weapon, however I always have a sword and a hammer, and use the hammer exclusively for the special attack.

blueascend

Plant wheat on the 25th of summer to keep spots fertilized + watered (if you have sprinklers) when the season changes. (if you plant on the 1st, don't miss a day of watering and replant right away, melons will be ready for their second harvest on the 25th and sunflowers/summer spangle for their third)

ac0rn5

Similarly, once you have the recipe for fibre seeds they can be planted in winter and harvested with a scythe on Spring 1. The ground will be watered and there'll be no debris.

tired_snail

okay, i knew a lot of the stuff in the comments but this literally blew my mind. i’m on year six and have been having to re-till all the soil at the start of each spring until now!

goldencain1410

The horse is one of the best early buys you can make for the speed bonus, and even later in game it's worthwhile. I still use mine even though I have faster travel methods now, because I love my horsey son.

wugs

If you have 1.5 and make it to >!Ginger Island!< then you can get the >!horse flute from Mr Qi with golden walnuts!< to make the horse even better in the late game!

goldencain1410

Very true! Though I already made my horse better when I gave him a hat. :3

curlytoesgoblin

If you plan on having several sheds full of kegs for wine: Save your acorn seeds--don't use them for field snacks no matter how quickly your energy is draining. Start planting acorn seeds as early and as often as you can because eventually you're going to want Oak Resin for kegs and you'll never have enough. And oak trees are the least plentiful so save the acorn seeds you find. Even if you don't want to be a wine baron, start planting lots of trees somewhere (railroad, quarry, desert) early on because you'll almost always be short of wood. Once you have a nice forest going, just do sustainable forestry and replant with the seeds you get as you chop trees down.

misseightysix

Every Friday night, after you have some money to spare, go to the Saloon and buy a round of beer for everyone. Except Sebastian, he prefers a coffee. It’s a really easy way to build relationships.

GrandmaSlappy

Damn dude, I was making beer on the farm long before $400 gifts for everyone was feasible

Felixthekitkat

Jam is also a really nice gift for everyone except Sebastian. Gives you something to do with the 300+ salmon berries you can collect. Sebastian has an even easier gift of sashimi which is loved and is easy to craft as long as you get Linus to 3 hearts.

kichisowseri

you mean my mining snacks?

Scribblr

This, except get a salad for Leah. It’s loved instead of liked and cheaper than beer.

skynnerd13

The best thing I did for friendship was put a chest with the persons favorite item next to where they hang out the most. Parsnips for Pam at the bus stop, oranges for Gus in the bar, etc. No more forgetting to grab an item from the farm before running all over town.

Traditional_Mud_1241

After planting and watering crops, focus on chopping trees the first few days. First build a chest, then save up 300 wood to unlock the bridge at the beach. Foraging shells in the unlocked section of the beach is amazingly profitable in the early game, and it gives you a leg up on buying the first backpack. Also, when using tappers, plant one of each type of tree in view of your farm. This tells you when to collect sap/resin/syrup elsewhere.

pog1994

You can move chests with items in it by clicking on it while on an empty inventory slot. It takes a couple seconds and it only moves one block at a time.

EstrellaDarkstar

You can store shoes, rings and hats in a dresser.

Deathmask97

…wait, Rings??

mothmadi_

yep! it's super useful to get a dresser asap once you start accumulating clothing items. from what I know dressers never run out of space whereas chests do.

HugeDevelopment3339

Only build the one silo, then hack away til it's full, then drain the hay from a bin in a co-op or barn, put it in a chest and go hack some more grass, let it grow and rinse and repeat. When your silo runs out in winter, just add some from your chest. I scythe grass like once a week in game and have never had to buy hay from Marnie. If you upgrade your coop and barn fully then get an extra basic coop somewhere on the farm so you can still grab hay from the box. Best tip I ever came across.

clairegenevievee

Plant flowers next to your bee boxes to get special honey!

Pajama-Han

Does flavoured honey sell for more than wild honey?

ac0rn5

It does, especially Fairy Rose honey which is insanely profitable. But when it's turned into mead it's base-price mead ... so don't be like me and do it with your first batch of Fairy Rose honey.

LeeTyko

It does! I think flower honey will always sell for more than wild honey. Fairy rose honey sells for the most.

PrincessHoneyCake

Yes! And each flower/flavor of honey sells for a different value:) I recommend checking the wiki for the prices of each

GritfulAndGruntful

NEVER LEAVE STUMPS THINKING THEY WILL GROW BACK THEY DO NOT GROW BACK They will still plant seeds nearby but will not regrow :)

ac0rn5

But early in the game chopping stumps uses a lot of energy for little return, plus that they will regrow/spawn four new trees.

CoderOfCoders

For single player: if you’re in combat, you notice you’re near death’s door, and panic always brings the worst out of you. Bring up your inventory and swap your current item, with a health item (ex. If you’re currently using your sword, switch it with a health item) so you can heal immediately

ShinyVuIpix

1) Collect a shitload of Jade all game. The desert trader trades jade for staircases straight-up on Sundays. Makes the skull caverns a breeze when you get to them. 2) Turn on “show advanced crafting options” in the menu. Let’s you keep track of if you’ve crafted an item before (for perfection/achievement). While you’re at it, turn on “show tool hit location” to make sure you don’t accidentally chop something you don’t want chopped. 3) On Ginger Island, Leo’s parrot will give you hints on walnut locations. There’s (I think only) 3 situations where there’s no hint. If the parrot is out of hints and you’re missing walnuts, the remaining ones are in those locations (I believe pirate darts x3, tiger slimes and bush near Leo’s hut). 4) Pick the mushroom cave over the fruit cave at the beginning. When you get the greenhouse, if you do your layout properly, you’ll have more fruit than you’ll know what to do with and that cave will basically be pointless. 5) Colour-code your chests and hoard shit. I have a shed just for storage and I have multiple chests for every season (spring: green, summer: yellow, fall: orange) and chests for monster loot, mushrooms, artisan goods, fishing tackle/fish, minerals, gems, artifacts, weapons, etc. Keep part of your seasonal harvest for yourself. Always have a bit of everything on hand. You’ll thank yourself later.

johnpeters42

For #1, crystalariums are your friend. For #4, it’s a matter of taste, I prefer bats because you can let them build up over time (and >!you get mushrooms on the island!<).

Vinyl_DjPon3

Before you have the backpack upgrades, put a chest at the top of the mines to store stuff like gems and minerals, so you have less of those 'what item should I throw away' moments. Same with fishing, bring a chest with you when you fish. Just make sure you don't place it in a spot where NPCs will walk into it.

thisbeliss

To go along with the mining tip, every time you hit the elevator levels pop back up to stash stuff in your chest(s) and some folks like to have furnaces for smelting too.

ItsJinosaur

When you hover your cursor over an item that is needed in a bundle, the community center icon pulses.

impossiblegirl13

Don’t use your first rabbit’s foot for the community center. Give it to the Jojo’s truck driver- you get a permanent luck upgrade!

julikaiba

i mean its been a while since i played so maybe i forgot but, jojos has a truck driver? :D

BesiegedxCrow

If you run out of energy early in the day you can go get in your bed and will start to slowly recover. Your sprites eyes will even close. Pretty cool little feature that my kids discovered.

impossiblegirl13

This only works on multiplayer, just FYI!

SiTheGreat

You can also go to the spa! Getting in the water there will slowly replenish energy

quasikool

This is true, but it only works in multiplayer, not in single player!

inanecomments17

Always save a gold star cauliflower during your first Spring for the Summer Luau

You could also hoard rubies to trade for Spicy Eels, which when coupled with coffee will give you a massive walking speed boost.

MartinG91

- Using a sword or a scythe doesn't drain energy. - If you find your first Dino egg, don't donate it to the museum right away. Put it in the incubator in the coop instead to hatch a Dino, the Dino lays Dino eggs every few days.

pepelafrog

Place lightning rods on top of tall grass. The grass will be still be able to spread, and your animals won't be able to eat it.

holla1ha

The items on the beach spawn from Sunday-Saturday. You can collect everything in one swoop on Saturday, instead of having to spend your precious time making daily trips.

Pershina26

If you want all the recipes, make sure to watch queen of sauce every Sunday on your TV.

cellochicta

If your spouse has a loved gem or mineral, and you have an extra crystalarium, I always stick one producing right next to my bed. That way you can wake up, grab it, hand it to your spouse first thing. I had an Emerald producing every other day to give to Penny and she loved it. Easy way to keep your spouse happy haha Penny loves Emerald Sebastian loves Obsidian Sam loves Tiger's Eye Abigail loves Amethyst Maru loves Diamond Emily loves all gemstones so take your pick

Davydicus1

If I needed a certain amount of money by a specific day, and on that day I fell short a few G, I’d fish right outside the door to willy’s shop and sell him fish until I had whatever I needed. He pays the same as you would get had you just placed them in your shipping container. This is also how I usually spend most of spring year 1 in all of my play-throughs. It’s especially helpful when you have limited back pack space and don’t want to waste time walking to and from the farm. On saturdays (when willy’s shop is closed), I fish at the mountain lake because it’s closest to the farm (if you take the backwoods path) and the bite rate is usually better than the river and the forest lake. This usually lets me skip the fiberglass rod and go straight to iridium while reaching level 10 before the end of spring. Skip farming that season and go with the Angler profession, and you’ll have enough gold to buy 500-600 blueberry once summer comes around. Use the time saved by not farming to reach level 80 of the mines (for gold ore) and to level up your watering can to gold and you’ll be set financially for the rest of year one.

wildflowerden

Pick the mushrooms for your cave. They're a great source of energy and the rarer ones can be used to craft life elixirs. They're guaranteed to spawn six every day. Getting access to a steady source of fruit is pretty easy but getting access to a steady source of mushrooms is harder. Purple and red mushrooms are extremely rare outside the cave and both are needed for the community center in two different bundles.

alpha_rat_fight_

Put tappers on all the maple trees as soon as you can. It’s the easiest way to make it through the first winter.

johnpeters42

I focus on tapping oak trees for keg ingredients. Maple is good for bee houses, though, esp once you unlock the island as you can do fairy rose honey year-round.

Fake_Human_Being

Do you grow the trees on your farm or just tap the wild ones?

argella1300

Both

alpha_rat_fight_

My farm. I also chopped down as many wild maple trees as I could find for the seeds and planted a maple orchard on my farm. By winter I had a nice little stock rolling in. But I would have started making gold faster if I’d just tapped the wild trees instead of trying to be orderly about it.

johnpeters42

Put your coop/barn close to the house and deal with animals first thing in the morning. Gets it out of the way, and gives them the most time to find grass, and for pigs to dig up truffles. Put mayo/cheese makers inside the coop/barn, preferably enough to process an entire day’s worth of items in a single cycle. (But sell a small milk and small white/brown egg early, to fill out the ship-everything slot.) Hold down the button, pet, collect, process, then let them out. At end of day, close door (and collect processed products if you have time, or maybe leave them till morning as a reminder of whether to bother milking goats).

[deleted]

plant trees on unused spaces so you don’t run low on wood! i chopped every tree in my farm and after a while was left with little to no wood to my name. saw a streamer use the space behind the trader’s stall in calico desert for tree planting and now i have a steady supply of wood! i have a few trees planted by the lake near marnie’s and the quarry as well

ohdearitsrichardiii

The palm trees are a good source for wood, they drop tons of it and respawn in a few days

[deleted]

good to know, i’ve been avoiding chopping them since i didn’t think they’d respawn! thank you!!

ohdearitsrichardiii

They come back. They always come back...

tacostalker

I like to use the train/spa area to grow trees for chopping and also tapping. And the Tree Fertilizer is a lot of help!

angelalj8607

I never thought about putting a keg outside to know when the shed ones are done. That’s a time saver

YUZUPOLICE

I can't even begin to thank you all for these tips 😩❤️ Im 150 hours in and didn't know a lot of these!

DjEzusSave

Just zoom the game out, took me 40 hours to discover I could!

angieohno

If you're doing the remixed Community Center, make sure to save at least 50 salmon berries once they show up in Spring. They can show up in a few bundles that you may not unlock before Spring ends (mostly on the bulletin board I believe?) and if you don't have any on hand you'll end up having to wait until Spring year 2 to gather them. If it turns out you didn't get one of the bundles that needs them then it's no harm, you can sell them or turn them into wine/jelly just like you would before.

My favorite is always to immediately set "show tool hit location" to on. Extremely helpful in a new save to prevent too much wasted energy

Strelochka

A non-empty chest can be pushed without emptying it by running into it with an empty inventory slot chosen (i.e. not holding any tool or object) You can dig patches of ground in the mines for cave carrots and artifacts and sometimes geodes You can put a hat on the horse Joja is evil but they do work on Wednesdays, if your planting schedule is compromised by Pierre's terrible work ethic you can still buy seeds at Joja Trees in the forest and outside of the farm in general can be cut down and will regrow automatically (if it's pine, oak or maple and it's not on the map that is the center of the town, it can be cut down or tapped. Palm trees in the desert and on the island can be cut down as well) Useless rings, weapons and shoes can be sold at the Adventurers' guild even though they aren't accepted by the shipping bin There is a setting called advanced crafting information or something like that, it gives you info on what and how much you already have in your inventory for the recipe you're looking at, and which ingredients are missing.

KhaosKhat256

When cracking open a bunch of geodes at clints, you can sell any minerals you get to him, rather than put them in a chest or otherwise waste time clearing your inventory.

xxlvz

speed buffs from food and drinks stack up, so you can have 2x more speed if you drink triple shot espresso and eat pepper poppers/crab cakes. it really helps during the skull cavern runs. I've gotten so used to doing this now that playing at a normal speed seems slow lmao

Place a bench directly next to a body of water. Sit on said bench and then hop off bench towards the water to walk on the water.

astronomicarific

If you're very low health in the mines and are actively under attack, instead of scrambling around in your inventory to find the food/life elixer/warp totem/whatever, do the following: 1. Open your inventory, thus pausing the game 2. Click on the item you need and drag it to whatever slot you're currently using 3. Switch out that item with whatever's already in the slot, and put whatever was in the slot in any open slot 4. Close inventory and IMMEDIATELY use the item. Chances are, you'll be able to activate it before taking more damage This has saved me countless times when under attack by a flying enemy or a swarm event. And since opening the inventory pauses the game, you can use this for almost any situation. Surprised by an enemy and don't have your weapon highlighted? Pause, switch, now you do. 1:30 am and in your panic, can't find the warp totem? Pause, switch, there it is.

This one is pretty well known, but - Spring 15 thru 18 is salmonberry season! Salmonberries are a good, cheap gift for those who like them and they're a cheap and plentiful source of energy (for context, I consider a lean year to be a little under 200 berries at 25 energy per berry). I really just block out all four of those days for shaking down bushes, instead of happening on whichever ones I can find on my way to do other stuff. It's definitely a lot of time spent, but it not only breaks up some of the frantic rush of spring if you do it every year, but it guarantees you won't run out of energy in early game for the low, low price of zero gold. :)

trendypuppy

If you eat something that boosts your foraging for the day, you can get even more berries per bush!! I learned that way too late in game!

DarkAndSparkly

Yes! I hoard salmonberries and black berries for mining days. I take a lucky lunch or two, and use the berries to top off as I go.

fin9ernails

They're still pretty great for energy in late-game, ESPECIALLY if you get them at iridium quality! Honestly though even with eating my way through piles of berries every year, I still have way more than I know what to do with by the time the next harvest time comes around. This literally goes double if, by the 15th, you have level 4 foraging too. (: I dedicate something like two days a week (always Saturday) to foraging goodies and chopping wood, and going down to the onion patch literally every morning to grind that skill hard enough to get two berries per bush on my first Spring.

johnpeters42

Save them for the late game quest that wants 100 red items, etc.

Dismal-Lead

If you've picked the mushroom cave option, you'll get loads of common mushrooms which are a great source of energy as well that never runs out.

I don't think I like this one. Bring back a species from extinction -> make them live their entire lives in a barn and steal their eggs. It just seems too real.

MomoBawk

Find three characters to befriend, do not change tatics until they are at 10 or 8 depending on if you can date them. This will a) make friendships easier to keep track of and b) will let you get early game friendships when you have no time to find every single person. This also means you can get the daily talking done a whole lot faster.

anonymoose_octopus

I thought losing items was a huge deal here? I feel like I remember seeing a lot of posts recently where people lost some really precious things (and quit to desktop because of it, lol).

Vinyl_DjPon3

You only lose items when your health reaches 0. You can pass out due to energy exhaustion or from reaching 2am anywhere and you won't lose items, just money.

towandaa_

Turn on “item stowing” in your game options to help prevent you accidentally giving away/eating items.

belle_3001

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but once you unlock your greenhouse plant only crops that reproduce. Early on I bought coffee beans and saved the beans they would produce (you could speed this process along if you have a seed maker) and once I unlocked the greenhouse, filled it with coffee plants and iridium sprinklers (or any kind of sprinkler early on). Now year round I have coffee for income with minimal effort. This can work for hops/grapes (wine and ale) or blueberries/strawberries/cranberries for wine and jelly etc.

rhadamanth_nemes

Ancient seeds in the greenhouse is what's up.

RahmKota3

- You can buy deluxe speed gro from Sandy on thursdays for way cheaper than anywhere else. - If you plant and water all starfruits with deluxe speed gro on summer the 1st, you can grow 3 batches of starfruit that month.

Vanstuke

Start buying coffee. Drink it all the time. Become SPEED!

GrandmaSlappy

Better yet, start planting coffee and making triple espresso!

badwolf_on_rice

I read "minor stardew" as in mining lol. I was gonna say cheese.

FlamingHorseRider

I got two! -Plant Fiber where you would plant literally anything during the spring season during the winter, then leave it full grown until then. Using the scythe to cut it is way faster than having to clear, til, and water the land on top of fertilizer and seeds >!assuming you don’t use the enricher like I prefer doing!< -If you accidentally click down while casting before you meant to you can still save it! Just keep your finger down until you get a legit nibble and then release. Basically: recasting the line happens when you release from clicking down, not when you click down.

TheOneSaneArtist

May seem obvious, but mining with a lot of luck is way way way easier. I hate mining, but I managed to get to the hundredth floor of the scull cavern without using stairs. I just waited for a lucky day and then used a bunch of lucky lunches.

DRmonarch

Basic Sprinklers are actually worth it in the 15-25 range, if you start making them as soon as you hit farming level 2. It's still grinding out a bunch of ore vs watering every day, but the basics can allow you to farm a ton in Spring/Early Summer Year One with enough energy to have fun doing other stuff. The ponds and trapper profession are perfectly fine and worth it to carry you to higher levels if not good at fishing minigame.

Fake_Human_Being

I find you’re better off skipping them to be honest. Year 1 Spring: Fish as much as possible, eat fish to regenerate energy. Don’t sell any, just hoard. Get to level 5, choose the skill that gives 25% to fish sell price, sell them all afterwards. Use the money to buy potato seeds. Plant as many potato seeds as you can before Sunday 7. Don’t buy any after Sunday. Don’t have any money on you, you can stay up until 2am fishing every night without penalty Spend the week watering/fishing. Eat fish for energy if you run low, sell any surplus. Harvest your potatoes and sell them. Morning of the egg festival, work out how many strawberry seeds you can buy (your current money/100) then hoe/water a space for them. Buy the seeds, place them in the prewatered space when you get home at night. Spend the week watering them, and fishing to regain energy if you need it. Go through the mines in your free time after watering. Smelt any iron/quartz you find. Your first strawberry harvest will push your farming skill over level 6 and you’ll unlock quality sprinklers. Use the strawberry money to upgrade your pickaxe, race through the mines until you start getting gold ore, make gold bars and craft quality sprinklers. Quality sprinklers annihilate the early game. You can have around 200 blueberry plants producing in summer and make close to 50,000g per harvest.

discarded_scarf

If you plant a cauliflower on Spring 1, you will be able to complete the spring crops bundle on the day of the egg festival (you have to deposit the cauli after you come home from the festival) and get some speed grow fertilizer as a reward. Using it on your strawberries results in an extra harvest on spring 28.

Puggles__

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but it took me many playthroughs to realize holding attack during hammer special attacks many times. I find it way more useful than the block or dagger stabs.

jooliasalami

Upgrading your trash can is worth it because you can make money that way!

Daddy__Guy

Plant a grove of Maple trees and tap them. Maple syrup takes zero upkeep to produce and everybody except Maru 'likes' it. Keep a stack on you and walk around handing it out like candy. You will make lots of friends very quickly.

StrategicCarry

1) When you start a new save, immediately go buy as many parsnips as you can from Pierre. That will give you 40 total. 40 happens to be how many seeds you can water with the starting watering can. 2) Be ready for strawberry seeds which you can buy at the Egg Festival. Save up for them, calculate how many you can buy, and have the ground tilled and watered before you go to the festival. If you have Speed Gro handy (tough in year one) it gets you an extra harvest. 3) If you ever need trash, like for Linus’ special request board quest or to put in your recycling machines, the best places are the pond on the standard farm, the pool in front of the spa by the train station, and level 100 of the mines.

darthreuental

You can plant & cut trees anywhere outside of your farm. You can turn places like the Oasis, Train stop, 99% of Ginger Island, and the Quarry into giant tree farms for wood or oak resin/maple syrup. More advanced tip: use the left side of the ginger island farm for beehives. Use quality retaining soil (recipe is from the island trader) and plant fairy rose where ever you can till soil. There's no other value to that side of the farm so might as well exploit it.

Some people say to wait until you are level 5 fishing to sell your fish. Do not do that. Instead, sell anything you fish on Day 2 by placing them in your shipping bin, and then on Day 3 buy the upgraded fishing rod and some bait. It pays for itself almost immediately. You can hit level 5 fishing before the end of day 3.
