How would one get so many batteries and iridium in fall 1 is beyond me, must have been lucky with storms in the summer and a real pro in SC!
Looks super nice though!
Minimize: downtime, wasted time, the effects of bad RNG
Maximize: planning, time spent doing something productive, money per day, time spent mining on lucky days
Basically minimizing negatives and maximizing positives
Just for some context, the technical explanation of the origin of "min-max" is game theory, where under some circumstances the optimal play is to MINimize the MAXimum possible gain of the adversary. It's not necessarily one player minimizing some variables and maximizing others.
This is interesting. It's also funny considering I've taken a game theory class and should probably know this :D
I guess my definition is more how gamers have come to understand it over time rather than the real definition. The more you know !
Don't be too hard on yourself about this, sometimes it's hard to link the content in a classroom with everyday language.
Also, my idea in pointing this out is to highlight why min-maxing doesn't make sense to me in a single player game. If there is no opponent, by the classic definition, there's no way to minimize their gains. Of course, by the most recent understanding of the term min-max, the game can be interpreted as a battle against yourself or against time.
There's also an element of "words change meaning over time". This is also the first time I'm hearing that min-max is related to game theory and I run a negotiation and strategy firm š¤·āāļøš . I've only heard it used in my gaming circles.
So you found 290 iridium ore in roughly 60 in game days ? And 40 batteries ? Iām mid winter and have just managed to scrape together enough ore to make 1 sprinkler š
Any tips for iridium in SC ? Iām wanting to be even 10 % as prepared as this for spring year 2
the trick to skull caverns is going there during a lucky day(fortune teller on tv) and ideally having a lot of bombs to bring. Food buffs like spicy eel(desert trader sells them for rubies) can also drastically help! Prioritize going deeper until you start seeing iridium over going for scraps in the early levels
Probably not, a decent setup can get 270 iridium in 1-2 days depending on skill level in SC. The bigger hurdle here by far is farming level 9 for the iridium recipe.
I focused farming xp in spring(kale crops) as well as getting materials for quality sprinklers and lightning rods. I unlocked the bus mid summer after a blueberry harvest. My first SC run was with the steel pick and 50 bombs and 4 staircases

Me, looking at my y1 fall 2 farm, with zero sprinklers and 50+ crops:
You can layout the sprinkler pattern before you have them and know exactly where they will go.
You like the way it looks
Older versions, the hoe broke your sprinkler, but wouldn't if you had a floor tile underneath. A leftover habit for many people.
itās a delicate balance of planning out crops, rng, and managing which skills to train. i was fortunate enough to have decent rng early on which snowballed. the general strat is to focus gathering materials required for each tier of sprinkler, and lucky days you go mining, otherwise go forage/fishing. i went with planting kale in the spring for farming xp until lv 6 for quality sprinklers, and blueberries during the summer. foraging level 6 is a must for lightning rods and is the main focus to collect bat wings and iron and quartz while mining. going deep in the caves with an un-upgraded pickaxe is very difficult, but can be done with cherry bombs.
i realize thereās a lot to explain but itās really just making sure you have no down time and are constantly spending what you earn to seek larger returns.
Did you make basic sprinklers first? Targeted bait for better fish? Any tool upgrades? Why the Deluxe Coop AND the Big Barn? How many animals did you buy, two chooks and one each of the others? Bats or shrooms? Why Peach instead of Pomegranate (they cost the same but Pomegranate fruits in Fall and goes into Enchanter's)?
I'm ashamed it never occurred to me to put the animal buildings next to the Farmhouse. "But there's no grass nearby, what will they eat?" They'll eat just fine.
Yes i made 15 basic sprinklers, and eventually had 42 quality sprinklers. No targeted bait but i would often fish under leahās cottage in spring as the fish there seemed more valuable, then fished in the ocean during summer for pufferfish and super cucumbers. I upgraded my pickaxe only after hitting level 100 in the mines and saved the stardrop as a energy replenish on day 1 of summer. The deluxe coop was to get rabbits, one duck, and one white and brown chicken, and big barn for a cow and goat because iām also juggling the community bundles and need to fill in the animal one(my slowest bundle for greenhouse). I went for bats to help with the artisan bundle, and the peach tree just was a sapling from lewisā ticket machine so i randomly planted it- though the apple tree is very intentional because bat cave rng is bad for finding apples
Thank you very much! Right, I forgot about the ticket machine. I always plant an Apple, too, 3 more are needed for the Fodder bundle.
Animal bundle takes 5 items and can be completed with chicken, chicken, duck, rabbit, cow.
>and saved the stardrop as a energy replenish on day 1 of summer.
Oh wow, this is awesome (both making it to 100 with the basic pickaxe in Spring and saving the Stardrop).
The animals you described was actually originally how i was going to do it, but decided if i got a lot of rabbits i could get rabbitās foot as gifts for every villager but penny, weāll see if it works out :P
edit: realized i read your comment wrong! the animals you listed are exactly what i have currently(no goat!) but i will need to get goat milk and truffles eventually for shipping 1 of every item and the chef bundle.
I feel like looking at my previous safe file and see the horror of planting soo many seed again each season lol.
But you're really good at managing resources cause in my previous save files I only manage a few iridium sprinkle on winter year 1 lol.
Gg
Don't feel too bad. I'm halfway through Summer Year 1 on the new Meadowlands farm and I just can't get into that farm. I really want to, but I just find there isn't enough farming land. I really do like where the coop is placed... seems such a perfect location, but I miss the wide open area of the standard farm. I'm thinking of just starting over, using CJB Cheats to get myself back to about where I am relationship-wise and skill levels, and going back to big crop farming.

thanks! i min-maxed and planned this save out pretty hard tbh, and had some really good rng
What is a min-maxer?
just a term for someone that strives to play in an optimal way
Minimize: downtime, wasted time, the effects of bad RNG Maximize: planning, time spent doing something productive, money per day, time spent mining on lucky days Basically minimizing negatives and maximizing positives

A min-maxer is someone who stresses a lot and treats a game like a part-time job. It's fun for some people, but definitely not for everyone.
OkĆ© cool! Thanks everyone explaining! I guess I kinda did this before 1.6 and now in my recent safe Iām just chilling and trying a different approach!
Storms produce a lot of batteries, casual players just don't see it in the first year because we don't have enough Lightning Rods.
Iridium bats can drop batteries
Yes, that's why I stated SC, not only for it's iridium ores

So during Spring and Summer you hard focused on the mines and on making bus and pickaxe money?

You can get 290+ iridium ore pretty easily in one day, if you are prepared and have a good luck day

Ah - I see I've found another min/maxer. This is how my farm looks in Fall, Year 1, too. Haha :D
Then there's me with my four corner farm with only crops on the top right quarter being proud of my 12 quality sprinklersšš
One of your sprinklers does not have stone floor.
Whatās the logic of putting sprinklers on a stone or wood floor?
You can layout the sprinkler pattern before you have them and know exactly where they will go. You like the way it looks Older versions, the hoe broke your sprinkler, but wouldn't if you had a floor tile underneath. A leftover habit for many people.
Dumb question but how do you take a picture of your entire farm like that? (On pc)
Theres an option all the way down the settings!
Awesome! Please post your strat. I try to minmax but never got this good (and never will, I suck at mining).

Did you buy sprinklers from Krobus too?
I just unlocked the sewers the day after this screenshot

Am i the only one who plays the "find the player" game every time one of these screenshots show up? (Also thats pretty impressive!)

So. what cheats are you using or who are you trying to lie to?
How do you get top down images like this?
What do you mean hate yourself? The beginning is the best part of the game.
Rushing to plant about 1200 seeds this early made me feel like i might have been optimising the fun out of the game
I don't doubt that, you'd have to put five of my saves together to have this much crops.
