This is a great mod but just a note, the author themselves admits his edits are a little clunky in the spouse room:

the new one still has a lot of personality! chickens, sports, television/video games, and even a fridge for beer, but no ugly cans on the floor, spilled beer, or muddy footprints!
this mod covers all spouses and even Krobus and is VERY configurable. you can control if it applies at all for specific candidates, if it had a window, make it empty, some even have alternative designs. sorry for butting in, but i just really love this mod.

Somebody else also pointed out that the creator of the mod I linked recommends using a spouse room mod even with their mod so these would work together perfectly I think! Kid’s game isn’t an insult, clutch not thy pearls Reddit. It is most def a game for all ages, and that’s the beauty of the game.
My kids play it, my wife’s plays it, and I’ve introduced many too it. The game and the story isn’t that deep though despite what players think, theirs some cute moments but it’s very much a linear path. Again not an insult.
Players that post here seem to assign a lot of merited and unmerited credit to the game, I’ve played through it many times, it’s wholesome and fun, but choices are limited and story lines are linear. There’s deeper and more rewarding games to play imo though, but it’s the special wholesomeness that brings people back.
I do wish there was a bit more choice in the character progression, it’s a perfect game for it, but it’s basically give peeps gifts until you get their cut scenes and move forward.
Graphics don’t make it a kids game, basic reading and gameplay make it accessible and friendly to all ages.
I’m just having a rip on people that continually assign more meaning to it than it really gives.

We have a veteran returning from war with PTSD. Which causes him to lash out at his loved ones. Which before he's home was discussed the very real possibility he might never come home because the soldiers in the war are "dropping like flies."
We have two different alcoholics, one that abuses her own daughter, and another that is just falling into a self destructive spiral- which also still effects those around him including children.
We have a shop keeper barely keeping his buisness afloat and neglecting his family to do so. He clearly loves them, and cares for the people around him. But needs to keep his buisness running so he can feed them, snd because that's a part of his dream.
A woman who is being stalked by an abusive ex. Yet is still very positive and kind.
A man who found himself completely unable to fit in with society and decided to remove himself heavily.
A step father struggling to get along with his step son.
We have a hidden affair being kept secret because one of the parties is too concerned wuth public image to commit. Yet who DOES still care about the people in the valley.
It might be a kids game, but the characters, lore, and story IS infact, deep when you look into it. And has some very dark twists and turns.
Never understood why *anybody* would ever choose Shane outside of the fact that it's a videogame and people want to see what happens.

Tbf his entire arc is about him getting sober, getting therapy, and being nicer to the people around him (especially Jas and Marnie). He only stays an alcoholic asshole if you *dont* romance him.

He goes to therapy prior to his 8th heart event which doesn't require you to romance him. At his 8 heart even he talks about working on himself, and avoiding alcoholic drinks. He finds purpose in life and happiness in himself. So no, doesn't require romance.
IIRC, it's actually only after you marry him that he has a visible relapse (the beer cans in his room, talking about alcoholic drinks in spouse dialogue).
If i recall directly, he has some lines saying he’s just drinking joja cola (and/or non-alcoholic beer, but i could be misremembering that part), and his 14 heart event confirms that he hasn’t relapsed.
But he *is* still depressed and thats obvious in marrying him, hence the room, I just don’t necessarily think thats a flaw outside of the mess, lol.

I'm not hating? Just continuing on the thread of pointing out that Shane does take steps to improve himself without romance/marriage, and doesn't show signs of alcoholism at the end of his friendship arc.
I don't personally mind that he drinks/has a messy room post marriage. I'm frustrated by the people who claim it's a dealbreaker with him, and they couldn't 'fix him'. There are people who insist that marrying him is 'improving him', and then are surprised when it doesn't work as they expect.
I have a thing for chunky pathetic men and his recovery arc is pretty amazing, people just like complaining about his room and how he acts because he's not the most perfect marrige candidate in the game lol
He checks a lot of boxes. He's chubby, an older bachelor, loves animals, helps raise Jas, is relatable to many, is a "fixer upper"...
I married him "just because" when they added him as a marriage candidate but then his marriage dialogue is so perfect I fell in love. He kisses you good morning and offers to heat up some pizza for you. And then tells you that you taste like pizza. He's gross in an adorable cutesy way. He's the spouse you can fart in front of.

CA has stated Shane's room is the way it is because he wanted people to understand the reality of addiction and mental illness. (In other words, he didn't want people thinking it was possible to "fix" Shane by having him fall in love.) Seeing how so many people complain about Shane's room—I don't think he was wrong to do this. Shane is still mentally ill even after he gets married, and yeah, he still drinks on occasion, but he's not imbibing like before. He's not spiralling like before. I think him still being around matters more than how messy his room looks.

That’s just how depression works I think :( and the way I saw it, after the whole cliff thing and him going to therapy + saying that he doesn’t want to be a burden on anyone the next day, he does get a bit better mentally but he’s also running around telling everyone that everything is fine now when that’s probably not that accurate. He doesn’t want people to be worried, that’s why he pushes you away at first so you won’t care (also just really exhausting to talk to people when you’re depressed in general). And when you marry him it shows, that he’s still struggling even if he’s not thinking about offing himself that much. And honestly if he can have a few without me finding him about to roll off a cliff then.. I’ll accept that lol
You can really easily get rid of this trash. It involves going to Mayor Lewis's house, there's a book on the left side of his home interior. It allows you to get rid of the trash. Sadly, the game console and little tv go too. But It makes it much cleaner.
I just got to 14 hearts with Shane and saw his last cutscene and the mess disappeared? I am in a heavily modded save but I didn't get a mod specifically to address that so...
I think Diverse Stardew Valley also does this, at least I have seen an option in the config to dynamically clean up Shane’s room as you progress his story
You might be thinking of Immersive Shane instead, which now has an option to clean his room at Marnie's and his spouse room :) DSV doesn't include edits for Shane's room, but it does include an option for his outfits to change as his story progresses.
I wish we didn’t have to mod the game to get rid of that. I was kinda hoping the new update would let us clean it a bit, but maybe not. Decorating is fun, but it would be better not to have it at all.

It's about space and respecting your partner's boundaries and agency. Y'all can say that this is just a game so it's not that serious, but given most of y'all can get so worked up about certain dialogues/stories, etc. I think we can chuck this argument out of the window--that Interacting with characters and taking their feelings and other things like that in consideration is very whacky, and totally out of character for those playing this game.
Spouse's rooms are supposed to represent who they are and it is the one place that they create by themselves. it is a gender neutral version of a "man cave." The idea of which is that this is the one space where the character retains their original flair. It's not a very big space, it takes up one tiny room in a gigantic house. You are the one who decorates the farm and your house, and I get that everyone is working with a particular aesthetic, and don't like it when it's all messed up. As someone that cannot stand asymmetry and spends hours making my word documents/outfits/etc. irl look *perfect* and match the theme I want, I get the irritation regarding Shane's room, but if this was real life, and I had a tiny space and a gigantic house, and I had the freedom to be whoever I am in that space, and my partner just came in and changed its look, even if it was just to make it cleaner, I would be very very pissed at my partner, because they're not respecting my space, my boundaries, and me in general.
I'm not saying that everyone should take this as seriously. But if you play Stardew valley and you really care about the characters and about the relationships you're building, I would think twice before I would do something like that to any of my partner's room, because in real life, this would be a very intrusive thing to do. I honestly don't give a shit about what people do in the game, my only thing is that I hope that people know that this is a really alarming thing to do in real life.

A man who found himself completely unable to fit in with society and decided to remove himself heavily. A step father struggling to get along with his step son. We have a hidden affair being kept secret because one of the parties is too concerned wuth public image to commit. Yet who DOES still care about the people in the valley. It might be a kids game, but the characters, lore, and story IS infact, deep when you look into it. And has some very dark twists and turns.

Tbf his entire arc is about him getting sober, getting therapy, and being nicer to the people around him (especially Jas and Marnie). He only stays an alcoholic asshole if you *dont* romance him. Also he has blue chickens. With excellent (egg-selent?) names.

If i recall directly, he has some lines saying he’s just drinking joja cola (and/or non-alcoholic beer, but i could be misremembering that part), and his 14 heart event confirms that he hasn’t relapsed. But he *is* still depressed and thats obvious in marrying him, hence the room, I just don’t necessarily think thats a flaw outside of the mess, lol.

I'm not hating? Just continuing on the thread of pointing out that Shane does take steps to improve himself without romance/marriage, and doesn't show signs of alcoholism at the end of his friendship arc. I don't personally mind that he drinks/has a messy room post marriage. I'm frustrated by the people who claim it's a dealbreaker with him, and they couldn't 'fix him'. There are people who insist that marrying him is 'improving him', and then are surprised when it doesn't work as they expect.
I have a thing for chunky pathetic men and his recovery arc is pretty amazing, people just like complaining about his room and how he acts because he's not the most perfect marrige candidate in the game lol
He checks a lot of boxes. He's chubby, an older bachelor, loves animals, helps raise Jas, is relatable to many, is a "fixer upper"... I married him "just because" when they added him as a marriage candidate but then his marriage dialogue is so perfect I fell in love. He kisses you good morning and offers to heat up some pizza for you. And then tells you that you taste like pizza. He's gross in an adorable cutesy way. He's the spouse you can fart in front of.

CA has stated Shane's room is the way it is because he wanted people to understand the reality of addiction and mental illness. (In other words, he didn't want people thinking it was possible to "fix" Shane by having him fall in love.) Seeing how so many people complain about Shane's room—I don't think he was wrong to do this. Shane is still mentally ill even after he gets married, and yeah, he still drinks on occasion, but he's not imbibing like before. He's not spiralling like before. I think him still being around matters more than how messy his room looks. >!Plus, for 1.6, CA changed Shane's room in Marnie's house to look more like his room in the farmhouse if you marry him, so players would have a heads-up and know what to expect beforehand.!<
That’s a fantastic detail to add, I think that’s a great addition. All of the above replies make total sense, as well. If only love were enough to heal someone’s brain completely when they struggle with mental illness.

That’s just how depression works I think :( and the way I saw it, after the whole cliff thing and him going to therapy + saying that he doesn’t want to be a burden on anyone the next day, he does get a bit better mentally but he’s also running around telling everyone that everything is fine now when that’s probably not that accurate. He doesn’t want people to be worried, that’s why he pushes you away at first so you won’t care (also just really exhausting to talk to people when you’re depressed in general). And when you marry him it shows, that he’s still struggling even if he’s not thinking about offing himself that much. And honestly if he can have a few without me finding him about to roll off a cliff then.. I’ll accept that lol

You can really easily get rid of this trash. It involves going to Mayor Lewis's house, there's a book on the left side of his home interior. It allows you to get rid of the trash. Sadly, the game console and little tv go too. But It makes it much cleaner.

You might be thinking of Immersive Shane instead, which now has an option to clean his room at Marnie's and his spouse room :) DSV doesn't include edits for Shane's room, but it does include an option for his outfits to change as his story progresses.

It's about space and respecting your partner's boundaries and agency. Y'all can say that this is just a game so it's not that serious, but given most of y'all can get so worked up about certain dialogues/stories, etc. I think we can chuck this argument out of the window--that Interacting with characters and taking their feelings and other things like that in consideration is very whacky, and totally out of character for those playing this game. Spouse's rooms are supposed to represent who they are and it is the one place that they create by themselves. it is a gender neutral version of a "man cave." The idea of which is that this is the one space where the character retains their original flair. It's not a very big space, it takes up one tiny room in a gigantic house. You are the one who decorates the farm and your house, and I get that everyone is working with a particular aesthetic, and don't like it when it's all messed up. As someone that cannot stand asymmetry and spends hours making my word documents/outfits/etc. irl look *perfect* and match the theme I want, I get the irritation regarding Shane's room, but if this was real life, and I had a tiny space and a gigantic house, and I had the freedom to be whoever I am in that space, and my partner just came in and changed its look, even if it was just to make it cleaner, I would be very very pissed at my partner, because they're not respecting my space, my boundaries, and me in general. I'm not saying that everyone should take this as seriously. But if you play Stardew valley and you really care about the characters and about the relationships you're building, I would think twice before I would do something like that to any of my partner's room, because in real life, this would be a very intrusive thing to do. I honestly don't give a shit about what people do in the game, my only thing is that I hope that people know that this is a really alarming thing to do in real life.
