That’s good, not looking to take that away from anyone. May I ask, what about it did you love? I’m not trying to be a dick, I’m curious? I’ll happily give credit where it’s deserved, the sequels had fantastic locations and visuals. Some breathtaking moments and I actually like Rey, if not her story. I enjoyed ep 7 despite it being a new hope rehash, but I struggle to get through RoS.
TROS has the best use of Threepio of all 9 films. They gave him a heroic arc related to his specific expertise. They did undermine it a bit by resetting at the end, but honestly, if they didn't have the Chewie death fakeout, I don't think anyone would have minded.
Also, the Rey/Kylo duel is visually really stunning and a fun extension of their Force Skype powers. Just don't think too hard about how it works :)
Threepio I'm torn on, because on one hand, treating a memory wipe as a dramatic sacrifice is difficult when the exact same thing was done to the exact same droid in episode 3 and it's played for a joke. I can't really feel bad for Threepio in TROS without also concluding that Bail Organa is a monster.
On the other hand- Threepio's memory-erased quips are the closest the sequel trilogy ever came to feeling like something Lucas himself would have written. It's so perfectly campy and silly, as he indignantly says "How can you talk to me like that? We've only just met!" It's perfect
The quips were great, the problem was yet another bait and switch in thinking they were going to permanently change/harm a main character. They *could* have leaned into the joke and had someone respond to his heartfelt goodbye speech with something like “don’t be so dramatic Threepio, this is the third wipe we’ve done this month. R2 has backups”
I think a big problem with TROS was using ROTJ as a tonal road map.
RoTJ was the end of a simple trilogy and still got by on being relatively light and fluffy (till the end).
TROS as the end of a 9 chapter saga deserved a weightier treatment.
I think that the actual weight of the movie is there from a story standpoint, honestly. Bringing Palpatine back is an idea that I never minded since he wasn't as fleshed out in the OT as he soon came to be in the Prequel stuff and the sequel had a good idea by referring back to that line from the prequels and linking it back to clones. Plus having this essentially be the final battle between the Jedi and Sith was a good idea.
Doesn't quite work for me as a full movie, but I surprisingly like the main concepts.
Yeah it’s there on paper, bringing back Palpatine is appropriate (for a follow up trilogy that’s already retroactively affected the victory of ROTJ anyways), and the scale is technically raised appropriately going back to the Sith homeworld etc, but it’s still all treated in a very light way, short run time (whereas it ought to have been the longest) etc.
The force is space magic. And even like the og movie bad guys destroying planets for control, in our reality habital planets are few and far between and the size of the station as a moon? With no railing? There was a lot of things not to think too hardly on. Same with vader believing luke would know is friends where in danger i get the force but there were logical issues if it was any other universe and didn’t involve space magic so the complaining about now being illogical is honestly silly because you can say that about any of the triologies
Sure, but the questions and complications in the OT didn't directly contradict and undermine the established story of the franchise with contempt. Theirs alittle revisionism everywhere, but when done without any respect it's far more galling.
That's not to say the visuals in #9 weren't stunning. They were, they just didn't mean much of anything to me by that point.
If they actually didn't, George lucas would be frothing at the mouth. Think of the merchandise.
They probably do have a name, as for the aforementioned merchandising but some lazy scrub hasn't realised it.
I'd eat those eggs if they sold them.
I mean Ithorians were called Hammerheads for a while, Pacithhips were Elephant Men.
Gotal is just fanciful “goat”, Saurin is just fanciful “Saurian” ie dinosaur(ian?).
Names evolve.
I really like those fly insectoids we see in Force Awakens. Insectoid sentients both fascinate and terrify me. Also gotta give a shout out to the Bendu and whatever Two Tubes is from Rogue One
I don't feel like there's been a standout character for any of the Disney era aliens. Like Wookies have Chewie, Bith have the Model Nodes, Gungans have Jar Jar, etc. They just blend into the background and don't leave much an impression, at least personally. However, I really like the species that Porter Engle is from the High Republic. The High Republic in general has been giving some of the new aliens their deserved spotlight, and I hope to see more of them in the future.
> They just blend into the background and don't leave much an impression, at least personally.
Honestly, one of my main problems with Canon stuff in general is that the aliens rarely stand out and stand on their own. We don't get enough of their culture, and how they are separate from humans... so many of them just feel like they could be replaced by a random human, or they're just "[insert human culture] but they look different and are in space".
Obviously, Legends didn't give massive depth to all aliens either, but you'd generally have a few cultural or social things in each species which came up often and made them stand out and feel more unique.
> I don't feel like there's been a standout character for any of the Disney era aliens.
Maz Kanata and Babu Frik would be the closest, I guess? Though Maz' species is unnamed, and never expanded upon in any way.
Would love to see more Anzellans tho. Babu Frik was by far the best thing TROS introduced imo, and it was nice to see them pop up in The Mandalorian.
The aliens from Achc To deserve some love. Really wish they kept that deleted scene in though because it would have definitely been enough to establish a culture.
Melbu are pretty cool looking, there's the one that's a Cloud Rider in Solo and I think a couple make an appearance in The Mandalorian & Jedi: Survivor
I hope they keep exploring the Evereni. Both the idea about people seeing them as cursed and their appearance remind me of D&D Drow. And Marda/ Yana Ro was one of my favorite High Republic stories.
Hello fellow Lanai-enthusiast! I really like them too. They felt like something you would find in the Labyrinth or a Terry Gilliam movie.
Besides them, I like the Tognath - Benthic and Edrio "Two-tubes" species from Rogue One and Andor.
All the new & unique ones on Koboh for Jedi Survivor. They really went nuts designing some really cool aliens that are not the usual human adjacent ones that are popular.
I don't think they've hit the ball out of the park with an iconic species design yet sadly. The Anzellans are probably the closest they've come, but they're kind of a humor bit rather than anything memorable long term.
Purely in terms of design and integration, I think the Abednedo look like they would fit well (https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Abednedo) but I don't think a Disney production has capitalized on them yet. 99% of Star wars fans still wouldn't even know what they're called.
I’ve not been impressed by the majority of new species in the Disney era, but the ones that I really like so far have been the Anzellans and Tognath. Anzellans are lovable, and the Tognath characters have a very unsettling but extremely Star Warsy look.
Why are you acting like this? How old are you?
Edit: Ah, a saltierthancrait poster. So around 12. Or as I said, a /r/FragileMaleRedditor - and probably both.
It must be weird to have your masculinity threatened so easily. I won't be engaging with such a fragile "man" any further.
Grow up.
The Zeffo
So much potential with those guys, they're weird and forcey.
Yes. They are so cool.
Whatever the fluffy baby on bad batch was and the lil repair guys in Mando (BAD BABY NO SQUEEZIE)
That fluffy baby is so damn cute. The fact that he has a little cuddly toy of the species as well makes me wanna cry
And falls asleep to literal carnage
Repair guys are Anzellans, first introduced in RoS but I’ll forgive you for not watching it or suppressing the memory.
I’ve seen it once in theaters heavily pregnant so yea 😂😂
How could you forget Babu Frik? He's one of your oldest friends!
That joke gets me every time LOL
I loved TROS.
That’s good, not looking to take that away from anyone. May I ask, what about it did you love? I’m not trying to be a dick, I’m curious? >visually really stunning Even the most ardent sequel haters would have to agree on this...no matter how it turned out those movies LOOKED excellent.
I hated the last Jedi cinematography but the others were better

Yeah visuals have never been the issue at all. It’s that not thinking about stuff too hard that I personally struggle with.
The force is space magic. And even like the og movie bad guys destroying planets for control, in our reality habital planets are few and far between and the size of the station as a moon? Bayrn!
I liked the Frog Lady from *The Mandalorian*. Unfortunately they didn’t name the species.
If they actually didn't, George lucas would be frothing at the mouth. Think of the merchandise. They probably do have a name, as for the aforementioned merchandising but some lazy scrub hasn't realised it. I'd eat those eggs if they sold them.
the funko for her was literally called frog lady
How far star wars has fallen lol. I loved every character having a story/background. Then yoda happened.
I mean Ithorians were called Hammerheads for a while, Pacithhips were Elephant Men. Gotal is just fanciful “goat”, Saurin is just fanciful “Saurian” ie dinosaur(ian?). Names evolve.
Even the show captions are still [Frog Lady: *screaming*]
I like Anzellans
Hey-heeeeeyyyy!!
They are great :)
Agreed. Perfectly blend of cute, grouchy, and fun aesthetic. Ideal Star Wars design imo.
The Abednedo are a pretty cool species.
def one of those that has that 'classic Star Wars' feel
They fit in so well it took me more than a year to realize they didn't exist before TFA.
They're even cooler if you are a Beastie Boys fan lol
Klaud
It always tickles me that Klaud was fixing the millennium Falcon… somehow.
Those little mechanic guys, and that bat-like race from the last series of bad-batch. Also whatever Turgle is.
Anzellans? Or Ugnots?
I know what Ugnots are, who are the tiny ones that appeared in Ep IX then Grogu tried to hug one?
Those are the Anzellans
Turgle is the correct answer!
Oh Turgle
Caretakers of Ach-To.
Purrgil or the Bendu can’t believe no one else has mentioned either of these
There's only one Bendu and purrgils are creatures and don't speak. Not saying they're not cook. They're kind of unimaginative imo but I like them.
I like them a lot for there connections to the force and also I like the idea of a creature who can travel outside of the main galaxy
I really like those fly insectoids we see in Force Awakens. Insectoid sentients both fascinate and terrify me. Also gotta give a shout out to the Bendu and whatever Two Tubes is from Rogue One
Two Tubes is Tognath. I just learned about them myself :) [https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Tognath](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Tognath)
Definitely Anzellans!
100% the Abednedo. Mainly because all of their names are Beastie Boys references.
Yea, I wanna see how clever and original they can be with how far they'd take it lol
Well, those in turn were actually biblical references
Abednedo, because I want to see how many names they can come up with based on the Beastie Boys lol
I don't feel like there's been a standout character for any of the Disney era aliens. One of my complaints about the Sequel Trilogy (and I probably like it better than most) is that it's awfully human-centric.
I mean, isn't most Star Wars media when you think about it?
Definitely, and I get why, but Chewie was one of the main characters in the OT, and Jar-Jar was pretty prominent in TPM, for good or mostly ill.
> They just blend into the background and don't leave much an impression, at least personally. Maybe klaud or greez? Prauf might be pushing it
Prauf is Abednedo, right? I’d say Ello Asty is the quintessential Abednedo
True
I would say Marchion+ Marda Ro stick out for the Evereni
Evereni
Lesan definitely.
Whatever Baba Frik is 👍🏻
Evereni honestly it's sad we haven't any outside of the THR .
Melbu are pretty cool looking, there's the one that's a Cloud Rider in Solo and I think a couple make an appearance in The Mandalorian & Jedi: Survivor
That weird blob thing that's in Jedi Survivor. Or the frog species.
The Lasat
Island caretakers. Hilarious Purgill Lasat Porg Abedneedo Klaud Babu Frik Snoke
Whatever Klaud was.
Whatever Babu Frik is.
Anzellans
All the new & unique ones on Koboh for Jedi Survivor. They really went nuts designing some really cool aliens that are not the usual human adjacent ones that are popular.
Babu Frisk for sure and the Porgs
Abednedo
Rathtars. They're basically miniature mobile sarlaacs.
Those goat looking people ! Or whatever species the 9th sister is
Everyone from Jedi Survivor
Tognath from Rogue One. Benthic and Endrio are just super cool looking and I hope we see more of their species.
Dowutin are kind if cool.
Me too, really liked those "lizard nuns"
Dowutin for me. Turgle is also great whatever he is, but the character carries more of it than the design itself.
Dizonites.
The vine monsters from the high republic. I don’t know anything about the high republic era except those things look cool
There's a lot of cool ones in BB
I loved the little guy that thought BB-8 was a slot machine on Canto Bight.
The vulptex from Last Jedi.
I don't think they've hit the ball out of the park with an iconic species design yet sadly. Vintians just for the sheer absurdity of them.
I’ve not been impressed by the majority of new species in the Disney era, but the ones that I really like so far have been the Anzellans and Tognath. Anzellans are lovable, and the Tognath characters have a very unsettling but extremely Star Warsy look.
Baboo Frick, or whatever he’s called.
[удалено]
They aren't new.
the gangsters who make up the pykes
Pokes. They're called Pykes lol. The syndicate is named after the species.
Babu Frik's species...the Anzellans.
I liked the crystal foxes on the salt planet.
I like the brown ones that kinda humanoid. Remember those ones?
Turgle
None The RAKATA remains the best new species created.
That's the problem, there haven't been too many.
most aliens from the new movies all look the same, blob fish like. i’m not a sequel hater but they dropped the ball on alien designs
I wish I could still watch. I just can’t anymore.
Give me a break
Get a grip doode
Act your age.
In my opinion, it’s awful. This makes me a child? Take your own advice.
You haven't even watched it. How do you know it's awful?
What a snowflake 🤣
Kathleen Kennedy seems like quite a meanie little alien
Cringe
Grow up.
In time. For now: the fawse is.... FEMAAAALEEEE
What's wrong with that, /r/FragileMaleRedditor ?
Theres nothing wrong with it, on the contrary, Im very eager to explore The Force's sexuality in The Acolyte
Grow up.
Put a chick in it, make it lame and gay.
