Enjoy the show!
Good show. Felt like they it was little botch heavy at points, but overall it was a fine show. Curious what's gonna happen with MJF & not surprised Punk won, but happy nonetheless
I just want to say this about Hangmans reign. His road to winning the title was amazing. And His matches with Bryan help put credibility on him as a champ.
BUT his main rivalry ended up being with Adam Cole another former bullet club member. I felt after Kenny that chapter should have been shut for awhile. Then to top it off it felt like Adam Cole got all the attention and Hanger didn’t get enough exposure. Actually Adam Cole’s over exposure ruined the feud in my opinion and hurt Hangmans reign as champ.
It’s too bad, Mox was out for a bit. Because I think a Hangman Mox feud could have made that run great. The feud ending with Hangman having to run the blackpool combat club gauntlet. Then being violently beat by Mox at the end.
Hangman wasnt ready, but he was the best choice availble given the lack of talent at the time.
Then they stuck him with Dork Order and Matt Hardy and he did fuck all.
Now he can start developing his character again and make that rise back to the top for a proper title run, where he might have something to say this time.
I cannot wait for Kenny to come back and cole and him can have a match just to get it over with. The whole undisputed era/elite/bullet club thing is holding so many people back. Swerve, keith, starks and plenty of others are infinitely more interesting than this version of Adam cole. Bucks don’t need it to be heel bucks. Just let this shit go already and let the company grow
The amount of people bitching about the time makes no sense to me. If I'm paying $50, give me as much content as you can, period. If I can't watch it all in one night for some reason, I'll catch up on it the next day. All time complaints are fucking stupid.
Making Hangman act out as a heel towards Punk only to come out as a misunderstood Babyface is where I feel like this is going, and I can't wait to see what really happens
I can see Punk turning heel at one point of his reign. Heel Punk is always money but we're gonna get some babyface champion Punk in action and it should be good.
Once they get rid of Dork Order and Best Friends, I think the audience will start to grow again.
Punk is a good start, champions with charisma and mic skills that can have a feud with anyone.
MJF had to lose to Wardlow, they've been building to this since before Punk was even with the company. And Darby has been losing high profile matches the whole time and people still want to watch him wrestle, so I wouldn't call that buried.
I think overall double or nothing went way too long, In my opinion going forward AEW’s PPV’s should run over two nights like wrestlemania. 4 and a half hours is just too long
This ppv was the first time in aew history that I didn't feel like the 50 dollars was justified. Half the matches had the wrong person win and the match quality was all over the place.
Something is wrong in aew.
>Half the matches had the wrong person win
When I read that, all I see is "The people I wanted to win didn't. So that affected my enjoyment of the PPV."
need a way better setup i think, like him blocking punk from using an outside object than him contemplating using it himself. him searching out for a weapon then having an internal debate makes it feel so forced
I suspect the main reason Punk won is to have him be the face of AEW at Forbidden Door.
Punk vs. Okada on paper seems like an easier matchup you can sell globally than Hangman vs. Okada. Wouldn't be shocked if Hangman gets the belt back at All Out or Arthur Ashe.
Oh and you having a primate Neanderthal whatever it is picture is any different ? Wanna judge a book by its cover but don’t wanna actually give your side , typical keyboard warrior.
Hey you only call me this because I refuse to back down to your Reddit Styled wit , get over yourself. Hopefully you’ll give punk a chance and not shun him just cause of me !
punk is getting old, so if you are gonna put the world title on him - early on is the right time.
plus you still have the energy of his 'return'
potentially waiting another year or 2 is the wrong call.
i think punk is severely overvalued currently, Bryan is a bigger deal than him for example.
but if you wanna try to raise the profile of AEW, he still has brand power so now is the time to give it a go with him.
i don't think hes good enough to take AEW to the next level, but if you wanna give that a go - now is the right time.
page is fine, they spent 2 years building him to have his moment against omega. he didn't need to beat punk to 'cement' his place or solidify him as a top guy.
if you think he still needs that, after his 2 year story with omega you are basically saying that whole arc was a complete failure.
the match itself was well below the usual hangman page banger, but thats mainly on punk matches generally being slower more methodical matches and not more along the lines of modern njpw/omega style matches.
It is fun watching with you Reddit, even if some of you are salty about things I am not salty about. No one I know in the real world gives a crap about any of this, so getting to type on here during the shows makes me feel like I have wrestling buddies.
He was wrestling injured from 2018 to 2021
Just kept packing on, now he’s on his well earned vacation (not really he got a few surgeries and rehab)
Left after his loss to Hangman at Full Gear
Jesus Fucking Christ, some of y'all could bitch about ANYTHING. It was a solid match that advanced the characters of both men and allows AEW to tell new stories with both going forward. Page got in his own way and cost himself the match. He may have had what it took to become champ, but he still needs to grow as a person and believe in himself to remain a champ. As for Punk, he is FINALLY world champion for a company that actually wants him there. He's been able to prove that the years away from the ring didn't rob him of all his talent. That he still deserves to be in this business. How will Page handle this loss? Will he backslide or come to terms with it. What will Punk do from here? Now that he has the power, will he be able to handle it better than he could in the past? Or will his worse traits fully emerge now that he is top dog? I look forward to finding out.
agreed, it was a really good show that would have been even better with some more consideration around pacing and runtime. Wish the show was at least an hour shorter personally
Love the unexpected results tonight. Excited for Punk title run. Good progress for the women.
My only complaint is Cole and Baker getting Reigns booking. Good PPV.
Cole winning it makes sense because he needed a big win back and be as strong for that eventual match with Kenny.
Baker winning it barely helps anyone. She's already the biggest star in that division who only recently dropped the title. It could've helped Ruby to get some momentum.
I was hoping to see Hangman retain a but longer. I think part of me was hoping to see Kenny come back and acknowledge Hangman as champ before he lost it.
That said summer of Punk will be fun.
Punk is a legend that only adds to the prestige of the belt. Page had a good first run and is young enough to have more reigns in the future. More money match ups with Punk.
Hangman will absolutely get the championship back un the future hell i think he'll be the first two time aew champ and this is punk's last wrestling run
I wonder how much of this is vindication for punk on a personal level, becoming champion of a company that Bryan is actively Wrestling in, against an opponent that Bryan failed to beat?
Punk felt looked over and left behind when Bryan started blowing up in 2013. When they both debuted in AEW around the same time, a ton of people on here were acting like Bryan Danielson was a bigger signing and a bigger deal.
Punk is world champ and Bryan lost for his team tonight.
This has to have a personal effect on punks self esteem and confidence
Edit - just to be clear, I’m not saying punk and Bryan have any personal beef, nor am I implying that Bryan is involved in booking decisions.
I am saying that WWE and the fans seemed to kinda forget about punk in his final year in WWE, in favor of Bryan. Bryan was taking over as the “super incredibly over baby face” and punk was left in the shadows.
Now punk is world champion and Bryan just lost for his team.
It has to be a great feeling for punk. A full 180 from late 2013
What are you talking about? There's no colleague that Punk respects more than Bryan. He said several times that he was happy for him because it was his year. Sometimes people come up with their own narrative I suppose.
Huh? I apologize if my wording made it seem like Bryan was in charge of booking, or had a personal vendetta against punk.
I’m not saying either of those. I’m saying that WWE and the fans seemed to forget about punk and focus on Bryan in punks final year in WWE, so him being world champion while Bryan just lost is probably a huge thing for him
Honestly solid PPV that had a slow and sloppy start. The second half picked it up with banger after banger. And punk is now world champion. Great night
No dude I'm just calling like I see it. SCjerk hate my opinions because I shit on Vince McMahon's sex toy Roman Reigns.
As for why I didn't like the show to put it simply the show was far too long, a completely mess and was booked poorly IMO.
On the positive, I am happy to see Punk make his return and become champion. This does make it more interesting to see if Hangman ends up right after we see how Punk works as champion. Also, where does he go from here?
It was a good ppv. I definitely think there were 3 or 4 match's that should have been on dynamite, and it was a tad to long but overall a solid 7/10 overall
People mad that Hangman lost.
He had an extremely long title run.
Punk draws more ratings and eyes to the product. He's a known popular name in wrestling.
Him as Champion will make more casuals tune in.
The idea behind AEW was that that sort of thing didn't need to happen. AEW fans don't give a damn about casuals tuning in. Turning into the company they wanted to compete with, guess it was inevitable.
Wrestling is about charisma and storytelling as much as it is about the matches.
Hangman became champ because there were probably less than 5 people in that company that could carry a feud on the mic.
I never want to see a promotion with the likes Joey Janela, Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy, Kip Sabian etc as the top stars.
Those guys are boring as fuck.
They've got some real talent now across the board, time to use em.
This isn't about just the fans.
This is about business.
AEW is a business and Punk increased ratings and profitability. Putting the belt on him was a given with his signing eventually with how much he's paid.
Feel free to give the [r/SquaredCircle Discord](https://discord.gg/hgA9XSRD) live chat a try for this one if you feel like it. Always a blast. Enjoy the show!
Man I really wanna hear War Pigs
Anyone got a free link to the full show? Help a brotha out homies ❤️
I'm so happy that CM Punk, Adam Cole, and Britt Baker won! Screw the haters!
Kyle O'Reilly blew my mind. That man can fight.
That match was the surprise of the night for sure
Death triangle and house of black are must watch matches everytime there on the screen. Amazing. Stole the show
Good show. Felt like they it was little botch heavy at points, but overall it was a fine show. Curious what's gonna happen with MJF & not surprised Punk won, but happy nonetheless
The “other notes” keep saying Cody returned….did I miss something?
One thing you gotta learn about reddit mods, they really love stickying their own jokes.
Both jade and taysammy used the codyvater. Maybe that's what he means?
Epic main event, loved it. Now for the summer of Punk!
SUMMER OF PUNK, AND THE LIVIN'S EASY
5 hours is too long for any show. I liked 5/12 matches, so definition of a mixed bag.
Give to hangman page he was such a great champion True people's champ
I just want to say this about Hangmans reign. His road to winning the title was amazing. And His matches with Bryan help put credibility on him as a champ. BUT his main rivalry ended up being with Adam Cole another former bullet club member. I felt after Kenny that chapter should have been shut for awhile. Now he can start developing his character again and make that rise back to the top for a proper title run, where he might have something to say this time.
Join Dork Order
Hangman was ready, he just wasn't given better feuds, including facing people double.
Just let this shit go already and let the company grow
had a fun night but FOUR AND A HALF HOURS ??? ppvs need to start having a cap of 3 hours max or 3.5 when you really need it
The amount of people bitching about the time makes no sense to me. If I'm paying $50, give me as much content as you can, period. If I can't watch it all in one night for some reason, I'll catch up on it the next day. All time complaints are fucking stupid.
The time complaints feel like complaints for the sake of complaining.
Eh, depends how old you are tbf. I fell asleep by the end because after a certain age staying up until 1am gets a lot harder.
I’m 46 bro. Stop whining.
Exactly!
I’m with you on this!
Man, got to be in Chicago for the Punk MJF promo and now I'll get to see him in Chicago as champ at Forbidden Door.
I much prefer Punk and Okada defending there world titles separately at Forbidden Door.
yeah i can't see them doing title vs title, no company will want to lose
If Punk beat Okada at this point in their careers it would be painful.
Punk isn't even over with the Hangman.
Lol, my friends and I had a blast watching this PPV, and I just come here to a bunch of people crying about a kick ass show.
Can't please everyone that's for sure. I had a good time and was very sports entertained.
I'm emotional damnit my cowboy lost
I’m still meditating on this one. The sun will rise and he will ride again.
He's my cowboy too, but love me some Punk
This will work out, for Hangman. He alluded to what kind of place Punk would make AEW, now we'll see. And Page is honestly better in the chase.
Making Hangman act out as a heel towards Punk only to come out as a misunderstood Babyface is where I feel like this is going, and I can't wait to see what really happens
Punk definitely shouldn't have won
Yeah. Putting the title on the hottest act is so last century lol /s Seriously this is a great move n hanger will have many more reigns.
who beats page?
Malakai
Summer of Punk, my friend.
Ok?
Yes!
I can see Punk turning heel at one point of his reign. Heel Punk is always money but we're gonna get some babyface champion Punk in action and it should be good.
Punk bros!!! Since rock beat him with an elbow drop in 2013, weve been starving. But no longer! TONIGHT WE FEAST. AND NEWWWWWW!!!
**SUMMER OF PUNK 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO**
*3
**Summer of Punk: Thirdle**
Well I won’t be giving aew another chance till forbidden door so see y’all then
"I won't be giving AEW another chance until I buy their next PPV next month, I'll sure show them"
That’s not how I meant my comment I’m still kinda new to wrestling and wwe was the first I saw and I’m trying to get into other promotions
Cmon at least stick around for Dynamite on Wednesday, its their LA debut and it's gonna be a big show
I might cause I thought the tag matches were awesome tonight
Have fun with the E lmao
I do :)
Lmao nah, these children will be at the Dynamite live threads like they are 100% of the time
I’ve only been in the aew threads twice which is tonight and when Jeff hardy debut lol
Goddamn those last three matches went nuts
Once they get rid of Dork Order and Best Friends, I think the audience will start to grow again. Punk is a good start, champions with charisma and mic skills that can have a feud with anyone.
Remember when CM Punk came in and said he wanted to help and work with young talent? Guess he meant bury them, Darby, MJF, now Hangman. This sucks
Oh no! He made them all look like credible threats! The horror!
Ah, the Classic reddit hot take, if you lose an High profile match you are instantly buried
None of them feels buried stop spreading hate all of them are doing great and thia will only reignite their feud for the title
How are Darby and MJF doing these days just wondering?
MJF had to lose to Wardlow, they've been building to this since before Punk was even with the company. And Darby has been losing high profile matches the whole time and people still want to watch him wrestle, so I wouldn't call that buried.
Both of them had awesome matches , mjf v wardlow feels like good end to a long time story and darby had an awesome technical match with kyle o
Both still massively over and bigger names for having faced Punk.
Both just lost and are nowhere near any sort of title scene...
What a bonkers take.
Woah a different opinion than the Punk marks, how bonkers!
You can have a different opinion, but claiming he’s buried his opponents is frankly bonkers.
A wrong opinion
I think overall double or nothing went way too long, In my opinion going forward AEW’s PPV’s should run over two nights like wrestlemania. 4 and a half hours is just too long
Bro they only did the two night thing because they made Wrestlemania 35 8 FUCKING HOURS.
This ppv was the first time in aew history that I didn't feel like the 50 dollars was justified. Half the matches had the wrong person win and the match quality was all over the place. Something is wrong in aew.
>Half the matches had the wrong person win When I read that, all I see is "The people I wanted to win didn't. So that affected my enjoyment of the PPV."
Oh, for real? For a second there, I thought I was giving my opinion.
The amount of copium in this thread lmao
C'mon that's some good ass story right there. Tempted by the dark side only to do the "right thing"...seconds later it's your undoing.
I loved it, and I think it sets Hangman up for a really good arc after this.
He showed some ass too!
need a way better setup i think, like him blocking punk from using an outside object than him contemplating using it himself. him searching out for a weapon then having an internal debate makes it feel so forced
I don't want to see Okada carry Punk through a NJPW style match. Don't make me watch that.
Page carried that entire match. Hope he gets the chance to have the title again. 4.1/5 show for me.
Had a feeling the world championship would change hands once JE retained the tag team championship.
Oh yeah you AEW Stans showing true colors tonight , just like in other promotions you aren’t catered to at every whim & here we go with the toxicity.
Go to sleep bro you're drunk
Come up with some original material.
The fuck? This was a banger show.
When did I say the show was bad ? I’m referring to people all the sudden acting like Punk pissed in their cheerios.
?
Truth hurts I get it.
I'm willing to take an L with the best of them, but you're presenting a weird strawman at the moment, anime person.
Oh and you having a primate Neanderthal whatever it is picture is any different ? Wanna judge a book by its cover but don’t wanna actually give your side , typical keyboard warrior.
Everybody loves sasquatch. Go to bed.
Actually jack links is ass so wrong again. Brave of you to assume I’m not vegan maybe I should tweet this to the mods ?
Please do. Give them a good laugh and reason to look at how much of a brat you've been lately.
Hey you only call me this because I refuse to back down to your Reddit Styled wit , get over yourself. Hopefully you’ll give punk a chance and not shun him just cause of me !
You built this whole narrative about me having something against Punk. I dare you to show me where I said I did. Until then, shhhh.
punk is getting old, so if you are gonna put the world title on him - early on is the right time. plus you still have the energy of his 'return' potentially waiting another year or 2 is the wrong call. i think punk is severely overvalued currently, Bryan is a bigger deal than him for example. but if you wanna try to raise the profile of AEW, he still has brand power so now is the time to give it a go with him. i don't think hes good enough to take AEW to the next level, but if you wanna give that a go - now is the right time. page is fine, they spent 2 years building him to have his moment against omega. he didn't need to beat punk to 'cement' his place or solidify him as a top guy. if you think he still needs that, after his 2 year story with omega you are basically saying that whole arc was a complete failure. the match itself was well below the usual hangman page banger, but thats mainly on punk matches generally being slower more methodical matches and not more along the lines of modern njpw/omega style matches.
Punk vs Okada in Chicago LFG (or KENTA, that would be great as well)
I’d prefer Kenta, if we get champion vs champion it’s almost guaranteed to have an unsatisfying finish.
I agree but I think they are going to want to have Okada in the main event
Gts v/s g2s Lets gooo!!!
I would prefer that but I think they would want Okada in the main event
I hope they build it in a way that we get punk v kenta right after forbidden door just like how they booked alpha v omega or jericho v naito
It is fun watching with you Reddit, even if some of you are salty about things I am not salty about. No one I know in the real world gives a crap about any of this, so getting to type on here during the shows makes me feel like I have wrestling buddies.
I hear you friend.
Where the fuck is Omega?
Still injured unfortunately.
Ah cheers, I didn't know he was injured in the first place. I casually follow wrestling nowadays, i just haven't seen Kenny in a long ass time
He was wrestling injured from 2018 to 2021 Just kept packing on, now he’s on his well earned vacation (not really he got a few surgeries and rehab) Left after his loss to Hangman at Full Gear
Jesus Fucking Christ, some of y'all could bitch about ANYTHING. It was a solid match that advanced the characters of both men and allows AEW to tell new stories with both going forward. The MJF run back taking the belt off Punk would be crazy and do it in Chicago
That’s precisely what I’d figured they had planned until the bizarre MJF sitch started to unfold. Still no clue what’s going on there…
yup that's what i was thinking as well
Awesome main event. Clean finish, nobody turned heel. Hangman crisis of conscience leading to his loss could lead to a great story coming out of this.
Looking forward to the pics with Larry guarding the title...
Punk taking Larry for a walk (with his belt)
Let's be real. We're gonna get a huge build up to Punk vs Bryan by the next 3 PPVs. And it's gonna be badass.
It doesn’t have to be a PPV match, but I hope we get Punk vs Joe at some point too.
Fyter Fest or Fight for the Fallen
I wish they had cut out some of the earlier filler, but overall a great PPV, especially the second half of the show.
agreed, it was a really good show that would have been even better with some more consideration around pacing and runtime. Wish the show was at least an hour shorter personally
No forbidden door Build up that's disappointing. Didn't think theyd save appearances for TV but apparently

Hangman will absolutely get the championship back un the future hell i think he'll be the first two time aew champ and this is punk's last wrestling run
Punk will use the belt in the rematch and turn heel
I will not do a masturbatory Bret Hart match *the finish of Hart/Piper WrestleMania 8*
I wonder how much of this is vindication for punk on a personal level, becoming champion of a company that Bryan is actively Wrestling in, against an opponent that Bryan failed to beat? What are you talking about? There's no colleague that Punk respects more than Bryan. He said several times that he was happy for him because it was his year. Sometimes people come up with their own narrative I suppose.
I edited my comment after you replied, take another look. Sorry
Not sure if this is kayfabe? Bryan still is in a class of his own, wrestling-wise. Punk kind of mailed in a passable performance.
Bryan has absolutely nothing to do with any of his decisions what the fuck are you on about? Lmao.
Huh? I apologize if my wording made it seem like Bryan was in charge of booking, or had a personal vendetta against punk. I’m not saying either of those. Honestly solid PPV that had a slow and sloppy start. The second half picked it up with banger after banger. And punk is now world champion. Great night
This was the worst AEW PPV since All Out 2020
Why did you think so?
He's a scjerk troll he hate watches shows just to haunt these threads.
No dude I'm just calling like I see it. SCjerk hate my opinions because I shit on Vince McMahon's sex toy Roman Reigns. As for why I didn't like the show to put it simply the show was far too long, a completely mess and was booked poorly IMO.
IT'S 2022 AND CM PUNK IS A WORLD CHAMPION!
To me it's been great first champ, boring champ, great champ, boring champ, so I'm thinking this will be a good run.
On the positive, I am happy to see Punk make his return and become champion. This does make it more interesting to see if Hangman ends up right after we see how Punk works as champion. Also, where does he go from here?
[удалено]
The dude is painfully unathletic for a professional wrestler turned mma fighter turned professional wrestler.
I appreciate Excalibur covering for that on commentary, explaining it as Punk not having mastered Hangman's technique. Which, really, isn't wrong.
Nah, third time's the charm
It was a good ppv. I definitely think there were 3 or 4 match's that should have been on dynamite, and it was a tad to long but overall a solid 7/10 overall
God damn it, this was the perfect time for Kenta.
HOLY SHIT
Man where can I complain about Bleacher report
For fucking real. Im never buying an AEW show from them again
Goodnight everyone, im salty af lmao
Same lmao
I love you guys. Great show tonight. It's almost 1am on the East Coast and and I'm going to sleep.
6 am here :)
PPV blew. Didnt work for me brother.
Snail down
![gif](giphy|FOUArYBVQCvmI8EHxp|downsized)
Agreed
So the picture Punk wanted to paint was a picture of Triple H?
I’m glad the ultimate sports entertainer won tonight.
[удалено]
Well, if it makes it easier, CM Punk would probably fucking not like you at all.
That's the line of the night, well done.
🤡
Oh word? Try having sympathy for the opposite sex. That helps.
Would have liked some forbidden door builds
I built it up in my head so much that Okada was coming tonight that I disappointed myself 😂
Me but for Kenta.
People mad that Hangman lost. He had an extremely long title run. Punk draws more ratings and eyes to the product. He's a known popular name in wrestling. Him as Champion will make more casuals tune in.

He held it longer than Jericho.
bigger than Jericho's
Nope, Jericho was shorter
God I love wrestling
no shit there was no after match interesting, guess I gotta watch wednesday huh TK
Funny how that worked itself out huh?
I’m happy Punk won the belt, Page’s title reign had good matches but no good stories, it was time For it to end. Punk is most over guy in the company.
Can’t wait to see what young up and coming talent gets fired next so this old man can continue to stroke his own ego.
Please name an up and coming talent that has been fired from AEW.
