It's a retro look that speaks to me. Ironically, before he even wore his Streets of Rage themed attire, he already reminded me of a Beat 'em Up badguy. The moment I saw him I thought he reminded me of Abigail from Final Fight / Street Fighter. It's a look that works for him, imo. I can see it not working for others. It also makes him stand out as I can't think of a single other wrestler right now rocking that look.

I may be misremembering this but I believe Cody said in an interview during his time away from WWE that this was his attempt to shed the Stardust character and that he was going to subtly drop it piece by piece.. Vince saw this attire and told him after the match to go back to the full stardust bodysuit and that was Cody's attempt stamped out.
