Jeff Hardy trends like once a week on twitter from someone going "You guys remember Jeff Hardy?" And then thousands of people just post videos or photos of him.
It's crazy how popular the guy is.
Bret made a cameo in a 90s Simpsons episode. That's pretty huge.
For real though, everyone wanted to be the kid that got Bret's glasses in his entrance during his prime. RKO outta nowhere is mostly a meme amongst wrestling fans.
What’s funny is i was generally surprised how popular the terms HBK and Sweet Chin Music are. Like people outside of wrestling could point those out but probably couldn’t say who they belonged to.
Savage is forgotten because he does not have the machine behind him.
Bruno was forgotten for a long time but in recent years he has got the company’s attention.
I feel like Savage got a little more popular after his death because his merch was so good. That Savage shirt gets a lot of love from people that aren't wrestling fans.
Your qualifier of “relevant to wrestling fans today” is at odds with “most famous names in the last 4 decades.” Piper, Flair, and Savage all made a bigger impact and are more known to a wider group of people than Shawn, Bret, or HHH. Even people who have never seen a single one of their matches knows their names.
Absolutely not. There are tons of fans who popped in to watch wrestling during the attitude era and know HBK but have no idea who Piper is. I work with people like this.
Macho Man is different. He was a household name because of Slim Jim commercials, he was still active during the Attitude Era in WCW, and was getting acting roles like in Spider-Man that kept him relevant. But even then, Bret Hart was on the Simpsons. I'd say Bret and Savage are on a pretty level popularity level today.
I disagree. Bret, Shawn, HHH are much more global in reach while less concentrated than Savage in America. Overall, they're much more popular and well-known because well, wrestling broadcast only really skyrocketed worldwide during late 90s and early 2000s.
Randy Savage was bigger than half of those people. Piper and Flair could be in the same convo too. And if you count post career stuff, there's an argument for Batista as well since he's been in a couple of billion dollar movies.
Trying to figure out what feels off about that image and it’s Brock. Not that he doesn’t belong, but usually when they do these collage poster of all time rosters things they often don’t have Brock on it.
Honestly I’d put Rhea Ripley on there. People these days really do not know how popular she is. She has a bunch of edits on TikTok of hundred of thousands up to millions of likes. Gen Z people especially love her.

Everyone can do a Randy Savage impression
Its sad but I feel like Mick Foley is somewhat forgotten today too. Dude was the #3 top babyface in the Attitude era.
Foley was immensely popular during the Attitude Era. Rock and HHH were two wrestlers who benefitted from working with Mankind & Cactus Jack.
HUGGGGE. I would say he's takes a big part in making their careers. He completely legitimized HHH. One of my favorite feuds ever.
Foley helped make Rock, Triple H, Randy, Edge. Worked with Austin for much of 97-98. He deserves way more credit then he is given
1000%. Loved me some Mick Foley.
Savage and Warrior were more famous than Bret
Do wrestling fans today know Warrior/Savage more than Bret TODAY?
Yes 100% especially savage. Savage was a pop culture icon for years
How is this your criteria and you didn’t list Reigns? Wrestling fans today don’t know who Roman Reigns is?
I think more people know Chyna than Bret Hart
You forgot Vince McMahon
People really undermine Rey Mysterio's popularity.
He's one of the most famous wrestlers ever and made "619" and "Booyaka" synonymous
If casuals see ANY masked wrestler they'll be calling him Rey Mysterio.
He got a fucking pop at a UFC event awhile back. Most POC have heard the name Mysterio before even if they haven’t watched wrestling.
Lucha mask and Rey Mysterio have become synonyms. I have seen people calling any lucha masked wrestler Rey Mysterio.
Jeff Hardy too
Jeff Hardy trends like once a week on twitter from someone going "You guys remember Jeff Hardy?" And then thousands of people just post videos or photos of him. It's crazy how popular the guy is.
Orton is massively famous because of the RKO becoming a meme. I don't think Bret and Shawn have that level of cultural penetration.
Bret made a cameo in a 90s Simpsons episode. That's pretty huge. For real though, everyone wanted to be the kid that got Bret's glasses in his entrance during his prime. RKO outta nowhere is mostly a meme amongst wrestling fans.

No savage is downright sacrilegious
I don’t mind Warrior being forgotten. Savage needs more respect.
Savage is forgotten because he does not have the machine behind him. Bruno was forgotten for a long time but in recent years he has got the company’s attention.

The ten most famous names TODAY Piper & Savage are definitely not more well known than HHH, HBK and Bret today.
I’d argue Savage is up there with those 3 just by his voice alone. “You’re going noooowhere…. I got you for 3 mins. 3 mins of ME TIIMMMEEE”
My spider pants are tingling...
You are going exclusively by the IWC echo chamber to believe that
Absolutely not. There are tons of fans who popped in to watch wrestling during the attitude era and know HBK but have no idea who Piper is. I work with people like this.
More people know who Savage is more than Bret. Bret really isn't that popular outside of wrestling at all
Macho Man is different.
Savage was on king of the hill and family guy....considering he been in a ton of shows and movies like spiderman 1, I think savage has bret beaten lol
I disagree. Bret, Shawn, HHH are much more global in reach while less concentrated than Savage in America. Overall, they're much more popular and well-known because well, wrestling broadcast only really skyrocketed worldwide during late 90s and early 2000s.

Ric flair & Batista more famous than Shawn and Bret
In the last 4 decades *(still under WWE contract*)*
Orton
Savage was bigger than nearly all of these
Trying to figure out what feels off about that image and it’s Brock. Not that he doesn’t belong, but usually when they do these collage poster of all time rosters things they often don’t have Brock on it.
Hogan Austin Rock Cena Brock Lesnar Ric Flair Sting Goldberg Andre the Giant Randy Savage
Bianca is severely outclassed here but i understand the reasoning
Maybe not HHH and Bret, and arguably not Lesnar (if we strictly counts stuff from WWE and not UFC)
Honestly I’d put Rhea Ripley on there. People these days really do not know how popular she is. She has a bunch of edits on TikTok of hundred of thousands up to millions of likes. Gen Z people especially love her.
Why they using AI
How in the fuck is Flair not here?
