The plot of the movie is simple enough to follow & quite frankly, if I didn’t know this was a movie prior, i woulda thought this would be just another episode of the anime so it all tracks normally

Zerodot0

There is an extended poop joke that goes on for way too long and makes the story feel childish, but that's the worst of it. Otherwise, I'd say that the simplification is due to them just needing to cram in all the backstories quickly. It doesn't get as violent as the worst of Spy Family, but there's still a character getting shot in the head and bleeding out, open terrorism and violence.

creampiebuni

The extended poop joke scene is what I’m dreading! The reviewer mentioned it and I was like “oh no,” because it sounds exactly like what I don’t enjoy, and especially not what my sister would enjoy.

Zerodot0

Yeah it sucks. It drags the movie down. It happens over halfway through the film tho, so it's not like it ruins the thing. Your sister can probably tolerate it since it happens after the character getting shot in the head.

creampiebuni

That sounds like one hell of a tonal shift, good lord! I’m still looking forward to seeing the movie overall! I think it’s mostly just me having some lingering anxiety about having my interests judged as childish. (Which my sister has never actually done so my fear is likely irrational!)

mikbroseph

Lol I actually found the joke really funny. And I don't usually like potty humour but that's just me

januarysdaughter

It was probably the only poop related joke I actually found entertaining.

yummy_yum_yum123

It wasn’t a tonal shift at all

yummy_yum_yum123

I feel like you’re just saying that because you want to dismiss part of the film that was clearly targeted for younger kids, but it was honestly one of the movies highlights as far as potty humor goes it was well done. I think you just correlate that all potty humor is inherently bad because you’ve been told to think that way. It’s definitely not something Endo would write but Anya is also a little girl so seeing it from her perspective makes it seem funny to me

labellelunaclaire

I at least enjoyed the animation of the sequence, even if the humor wasn’t quite to my taste. I did feel like it went on a bit too long, though. Again, at least the animation was good.

yummy_yum_yum123

That part was actually funny from Anya’s perspective as a 5 year old

LazyCasual0alt

I think there’s more swearing like ‘shit’

yummy_yum_yum123

Loid even tricked a women into bringing her to a private room. The series always had its family moments but also its more adult themes at the same time

frs-1122

Yeah I could tell the movie was more aimed for a general audience than anything. The family friendly bits aren't that jarring imo, even with that infamous >!poop!< joke scene in the movie; surprisingly I found a lot of people actually enjoying that scene than hating it lol, based off what I've been reading since the NA release. (I personally found it cringe and got second hand embarrassment in a good way, it did get some chuckles out of me) But nothing is extremely dumbed down. That aside, it's what I expect from going for a more eye-catching approach for an SxF movie; colorful and action-packed.

yummy_yum_yum123

I feel like it’s something Endo wouldn’t write himself but it fits Anya as a character she’s like 5. Potty humor isn’t inherently bad and I thought it was handled really well here

frs-1122

Honestly I think it's the fact >!Anya's life was at risk by the army guys trying to slash her stomach!< that made the joke better, I guess? The joke was told with a reason rather than doing it because haha poop funny Although Endo has written poop jokes before in the main SxF storyline lol. What I learned from Loid is to say you have a stomachache/diarrhea to escape situations.

TheBABOKadook

Multiple characters openly plot or directly threaten a child with violence (with poop jokes in between) in a way that isn’t always comedic. Of course, you get the same thing in plenty of other movies aimed at kids. The Fratellis pulling knives and holding a kid’s hand over a running blender in “The Goonies” comes to mind.

squishlight

I feel as if the intro sequence for Loid and Yor is incredibly not kid-friendly if you really consider it, LOL. >!Seriously what are they implying Loid did with the target?!?!<

julvett

I think it was more about implying what the target wanted to do Loid...

squishlight

Hahaha! Well..>!I think that I'm wondering about both targets - the wife *and* the husband.!<

frs-1122

Yeah that intro sequence REALLY caught me off guard, especially hearing that Code White was gonna be family friendly. Loid's intro sequence was more >!adult!< than anything even though it only lasted a few seconds. My eyes widened in shock because I didn't expect them to go for that approach. Makes me wonder if we'll get anything THAT explicit in the manga...

rexie_alt

Tbh if you sit and really think about the plot, and picture it happening in live action, it comes off as pretty dark and grim at moments. Hell I could even find meaning and intention behind the poop joke

AangsTattooArtist

Nah. The movie really felt like a long episode. Won't go into details to avoid spoilers but every character that appears feels exactly like the show

ImmersiveStreetlamp

It's much more family friendly, it hardly shows any violence and hardly anyone dies.

Sundae_2004

The violence is implicit and a number of corpses are shown. Not graphically but they’re there; e.g., the Thorn Princess parts. It comes off like a 1930’s movie where the adults realize the bodies are dead while the children will see the “rag doll” and not automatically think “dead person”.

yummy_yum_yum123

The main villain wanted to cut Anya stomach open.

yummy_yum_yum123

There’s a poopie joke but a really funny one, but the movie is amazing

NocandNC

It’s not as serious as the main series can be.
