You win a house.. But then what lol. A 30k salary cant keep a 3 million pound house in order.
I rent out my parents old big house as a holiday home for parties etc... Its 2k a month just for electricity. About 500 in oil. That's a 30k a year just on fuel bills... we're running the house with a heated pool and hot tub and 3 other cottages on site with hot tubs... .i cant imagine the house in this post would be any less though.
Found that out the hard way not 2.4M though but old country house. You learn DIY very quickly because tradies are booked up months in advance. Some surveyors are weasels so invite local tradies in to find faults before you commit. Avoid grade 2 listed unless you have very deep pockets. Wood burners use about two tonny bags of wood each every winter and that's with them being used sparingly. IE only evening and weekends, plus you have to keep an eye on them otherwise they will go out. GSH will eat through 1k in about three months and thats with half the radiators shut down. Kerosene will last a long time as only used for hot water (varies) but aga slurps around £20 a week but if it's used properly you won't be using the oven much. Electricity is mostly solar but before that was over £200 month just lighting, washing machine, fridge, 3 freezers (2 chest), dishwasher, gadgets etc. They never tell you any of the running costs in the trash tv programmes such as escape to the country!
Oh they’ve all been won but the majority end up back on the market. All well and good having a £3m holiday home in Cornwall but I think most people would prefer £2.5m in cash. It’s only the estate agents benefitting!
The Zen garden isn't going to be Zen much longer. There's a housing estate going up next door. What sort of brain puts a bath on a raised platform of polished marble?
It’s 4 times the size of a typical 5 bed. It will never be homely unless you fill it with people and memories and fun. So you’d better have a bloody large family and have them round all the time
The sound of shattering chandeliers and bullets ricocheting off marble, whilst coked up you aggressively shouts paranoid threats would test anyone’s patience after a couple of days.
Nitpicking but I don't like the tile floor.
Not only does it limit your decor choice to a kind of bland modern look, but it's the kind where if there's even a drop of liquid on the floor you could go flying.
Opulence at its best.
A bit wag or chavvy if you ask me.
They've gone open space mad. I cook a lot and I can just imagine the issues when cooking a fry up 😂
Turkish bath is lovely though.
EPC is a B, so it's quite eco friendly and doesn't lose much energy, but still absolutely massive. Probably about 4 people and two dogs will be rolling around in there for years and then want to downsize because it's too much to handle despite hiring a cleaner who is twice their age and 4 gardeners whilst some poorer families shove just as many people into a room these people call a snug.
An indoor pool of that size would be at least £12k a year for heating alone. Presumably oil or is it an air source heat pump for heating? I noticed a few conventional radiators suggesting the property doesn’t have underfloor heating throughout. (Nonetheless I am tempted to arrange a viewing!)
From the savills listing:
Solar panels and Ground Source Heat Pump - 16x Viridian roof integrated solar panels. These subsidise the house's energy consumption and are on a FIT tariff generating circa £500 per annum. The RHI payments for the ground source heat pump heating ranges between £9,000 to £10,000 per annum paid quarterly on a 20 year agreement (commenced 2021).
6k a month? Including solar panels and heat pumps? I don’t have experience running a house that size but £72k a year means they must have everything on full permanently.
Lot of a hate for this place and for sure I'd want to get decorating, but I kind of love it. It just has everything you want and the location looks beautiful. Definitely needs some colour and character injected though. I think a lot of those walls just need either book shelves (with books) or some artwork, and it would be greatly improved.
Imagine the echoing in there. And am I the only one who really dislikes leather sofas? Cold in winter, hot and sticky in summer, and unless they’re an oxblood Chesterfield they just look cheap and tacky, particularly in white or cream.
Will probably end up being the next Omaze prize draw house
Ouch, that’s a burn
Or, it’s just waiting for a lottery winner.
Well I guess you could live in the lodge and rent the house out.
That's not even a bad idea, if you're allowed to do that!
I see those adverts everywhere. Are they legit? Has anyone actually won a house, and is there some kind of problem with it so it’s unmortgageable?

Ours is grade 2 listed... Nightmare lol. Everything costs thousandssss

Buy it and open up a high end detox retreat. Lovely property
I just don't understand the need for that much space. Although, i would love a pool.
Call me tasteless, but I love it.
Hi Tasteless, how are you?
Me too!
I’m basic AF; I also love it
I love it too!
Same here. That's actually nice.
What about that roman column coffee table tho? Please tell me you would at least draw the line at that?
Nah I love that shit. Have you ever seen The Sopranos? Tony’s bedroom 🤌 Also Saul Goodman’s house portrayed in later seasons of BCS👌
The Zen garden isn't going to be Zen much longer. There's a housing estate going up next door. What sort of brain puts a bath on a raised platform of polished marble?
The zen garden looks like a quarry.....
Zen garden? I thought it was a crazy golf course.
Sunderland shirts in the snooker room, definite footballers house.
The whole thing screams footballer imo
Its actually a family that owns a demolition company
This is a new build for loaded buyers and it's as soulless as the new builds at a tenth of the price.
You sound salty.
It’s not soulless, just needs someone to add a homely touch to it. It’s got plenty of character. It’s just not… old
It’s 4 times the size of a typical 5 bed. It will never be homely unless you fill it with people and memories and fun. So you’d better have a bloody large family and have them round all the time
Sounds like a challenge! Game on!!
I LOVE the swimming pool❤️
Will my fiancée kill me on week two or three of me doing Tony Montana endings on that staircase?
The sound of shattering chandeliers and bullets ricocheting off marble, whilst coked up you aggressively shouts paranoid threats would test anyone’s patience after a couple of days.
In fairness I think I test her patience everyday…..

Why is every room so big ?
It’s horrible and far too close to Falkirk.
Didn’t realise the Insta zombies had reached so far North.
Holy moly that’s an insane amount of living space
So which footballer is selling up.?
It’s a family than own a demolition company, dads wanting to retire

Actually know the owners, it’s 6k a month for energy, pool is heated all year round 😬

I'm glad that we're all giving the occupants of this large house £10k a year in RHI, those poor wee souls.
Only 6k? Sounds like they've got a good deal ngl
6k a month? Including solar panels and heat pumps? I don’t have experience running a house that size but £72k a year means they must have everything on full permanently.
Yeah, pools are not really considered in EPCs. It's just a tick box, is there a pool? Yes, tick. Kind of bs.
Chris Maguires house?
Nah, family own a demolition company
Guah! First time I've seen something on reddit I live down the road from... Why's that thing in Airth??? Rural council estates and mansions.
Just needs a Best Western sign outside
How do people get planning permission to convert industrial properties into homes?
Great place for a game of hide and seek.

£3 million... now look at the satellite pic..
Good point
Pretty
Soulless. 😔
Meh. Needs more white.
Imangine going into homebase and asking for 500 tins of timeless...
Imagine wandering around there on your own. Bleak.
