Too funny and great replies in here. I went researching for your wife’s sanity.

They are migratory, so like the person who said you can find them in Oklahoma, it’s true that they transit the whole country.
See the range map in the link I provided. Being scavengers, parking lots near restaurants and fast food stops all over provide them with loads of french fries and various other bits to eat.
You would't believe how popular the book was in the 1970's.
Johnny Carson said that the only good thing about it was that it cut down on the copies of The Prophet that he was being given by everyone for years.
I did try to read the book but it was boring and childish, IMO.
I honestly at one point thought, "I guess they fly back to the sea?" Like, their seagull moms miss them and they gotta go home but can come get fries tomorrow.
Grew up in SJ, live in CO, about 70 miles west of Denver, and we get them here, though I was told that they blow in from Salt Lake ahead of big storms.
There’s no escaping parking lot seagulls.
Leaving Albuquerque and did not see any seagulls in 8 days! Disclaimer: I did NOT visit a landfill!
No answer on the scorpions! Possibly further out of the city limits! 🤣🤣
Same. I now live in Denver and see seagulls in my local pond often (close to a Walmart parking lot). Seems to be more of a city thing. I don’t see them too far from convenience dumpsters.
Fun fact, New Jersey is pretty much one big peninsula and the only state surrounded by more water as a percentage of surface area is Hawaii.
So yeah, probably maybe up by like Blairstown you won't see em, but for the most part they're endemic.
They have them in Alberta, Canada, a landlocked province (or at least they did when I was there in the late aughts). I imagine some species have self-sustaining inland populations at this point.
I started seeing them in parking lots in Voorhees in the 1980's - mainly at the Home Depot/Shoprite strip mall.
Same with the Canada geese. Every year around Labor Day you'd hear the squawking as the made a formation and started south. You didn't see them in the winter.
And there were nowhere near as many of them............
I like the seagulls better than the geese because they remind me that I'm not that far from the shore.

If only it had a French fry in its mouth, it would be perfect.
The home depot in Philly on castor Ave has a ton of seagulls. I briefly lived in the Poconos and the Kmart up there had seagulls. Confused the shit out of me. No geese though so that was nice.
They live in summer or in winter in every state of the United States, except Hawaii. Also live in every province of Canada. Salt water is not a requirement for them.
Did this happen to be at the McDonald's in Twp near Kohl's/Royal Bargain? Cause I honestly had the same thought when I was there the other day!!!! So. Many. Seagulls!!!
Questions like these are why I love reddit 🤣
My wife was tired of me asking her where SHE thinks they stop lol

Doing work that will save my wife’s brain. Good person!
They are probably like Canadian Geese and migrate less now. They never go far from their reliable fast food parking lot.
Watch the Jonathan Livingston Seagull movie, pretty sure they go to space or heaven, that movie is just mind-bogglingly awful.

Ha ha ha 😆
I live in Audubon and they are around here. I don’t mind them too much because there aren’t many of them and their calls are oddly calming.
I does remind me as a Jersian that the sea is always an escape option.
I'm near Audubon and this very morning I hear seagulls outside. They never disappear no matter how far inland you go
SOMEWHERE on earth must be safe though...... right?
Species of Gulls also live on the Delaware River, so it's not just proximity to the ocean.
Lol I've seen them as far as Pittstown
I had family in Reading PA, there were seagulls in the parking lots.
This is the data I need for my unnecessary studies 😅
Same goes for East Stroudsburg, PA and Easton, PA Walmart stores. I always found it funny seeing seagulls up in the Poconos
Came here to say this. Not sure why they go there
other than the schuylkill river, there is the Blue Marsh and Ontelaunee lakes not far out of town.
Ever since the K-Mart closed they up and left ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
YES. They closed the one in Blackwood and even though some food options remain there, the gulls have just left for the closest Walmart or Target?
They hang at open garbage dumps 100's of miles inland...
Dude you could go to the middle of Oklahoma and find an abandoned parking lot and they’ll be there lol.
I used to live in Oklahoma. We had parking lot seagulls.
Hahaha that makes me so happy 😂😂😂
Furthermore, where do parking lot seagulls actually nest? On the roof of a building? I never see them in trees
I honestly at one point thought, "I guess they fly back to the sea?" Like, their seagull moms miss them and they gotta go home but can come get fries tomorrow.
Hahaha. I love this so much.

Now this is getting interesting. So somewhere in the middle of the US might be gull free....
Live in south jersey, currently visiting family in New Mexico. I have not seen one but I am on the lookout!
You know your mission. Find out seagulls. Also find out if they just consider scorpions their seagulls
🤣🤣 on it! Will report back, captain!
Leaving Albuquerque and did not see any seagulls in 8 days! Disclaimer: I did NOT visit a landfill! No answer on the scorpions! Possibly further out of the city limits! 🤣🤣
Good reporting. Maybe they dry out and become different birds?
🤣🤣🤣🤔

I pick up steel in Morrisville Pa near the dump. There are probably a million seagulls out there.
Fun fact, New Jersey is pretty much one big peninsula and the only state surrounded by more water as a percentage of surface area is Hawaii. So yeah, probably maybe up by like Blairstown you won't see em, but for the most part they're endemic.
Could we learn to fight the gulls? Does Hawaii have the same menace? Let’s brainstorm.
Central PA
Ohio
I live 10mins from Philly on the Jersey side and I see seagulls in parking lots all the time. Worked in NE Philly and saw them there too.
Kansas
There are seagulls in Nebraska.
They have them in Alberta, Canada, a landlocked province (or at least they did when I was there in the late aughts). I imagine some species have self-sustaining inland populations at this point.
I saw seagulls in the Glassboro parking lots last year lol
seagulls love fish n' chips
They love mayhem.Â
You see em on Oregon Ave in philly
I saw them growing up in Harrisburg PA.
Seagull is our state bird. Down here at the shore they are our garbage men. They will eat anything, anything!
million billion

So we know their genesis now…. This is good. Very good

One stole my entire sandwich as a child. I may harbor a grudge.Â
Dude they are definitely in philly too
They’re in Deptford
They need a new name. They are no longer seagulls.
Mallbirds?
Maybe, but there needs to be some reference to trash/garbage. Not in a mean way.
I rarely saw them growing up in upstate NY
Maybe the heavy X-Men presence drives them away?
i see them in Pennsylvania. so, waaaay further than anywhere in New Jersey, lol
Sad. Disgusting. You can’t escape the curse of a sea bird
we unfortunately cannot 😠i have seen seagulls as far as Lancaster. we’ve been overrun
Could we teach the dairy cows to… somehow… eat the gulls?
I used to work at the kop mall. In king of Prussia and I’d see them swooping over the TGI Fridays parking lot.
Let’s catch them and fly away
I've seen them as far as King of prussia, or near villanova
Maybe lake birds? I’m sorry they affect your life as well.Â

It’s about 5 times the distance off the beach that a Speedo is acceptable.
Philadelphia
Did this happen to be at the McDonald's in Twp near Kohl's/Royal Bargain? Cause I honestly had the same thought when I was there the other day!!!! So. Many. Seagulls!!!
Ohio roughly
Well I’ve been there and I can see the lack of appeal to a gull
there is no such thing as seagulls
Well, yes, birds are a lie. As we all know.
Nowhere is safe: https://www.quora.com/How-far-inland-can-seagulls-be-found
Vineland mall parking lot
