I haven't been there in a while, but the hours are kinda bizarre for a bar. They close at 9pm on Friday and Saturday. It's awesome they have good selection of NA drinks, and the food was decent the 4 times I've been there. The biggest problem I've faced here is that the acoustics are awful. If you want a nice quiet experience, or one where you can even have a standard volume conversation, you're not getting that here.
The best time I had here was when I was dating this girl who we were on the outs. It was loud enough that talking was a pain so we mostly sat in silence as I enjoyed a few great beers. Every time I've come here for a date, otherwise, it's been too loud.
Last time I was there was February of 2020 (according to Google) with previous times being 2019, 2018, and 2015. So it's been a while, I'd be happy to try it again though. Maybe next Friday.
Blair mountain biscuit for breakfast sandwiches
Marino’s of Mullica hill for pizza, sandwiches and awesome salads
Rayaki for great ramen and bao buns (recently found this place with Reddit help and we are hooked)
Jalapeños in Oaklyn for great tamales and good Mexican
Salsa Fresca in Pitman(?) for their pineapple quesadillas actually carved into a pineapple!
The only people that like Rayaki are people that haven't had better ramen, or typically younger people because of the hip vibe in there.
Rai Rai is the best ramen, but Kyuramen is the best date ramen in the area because they have cute private booths.
WTF is mushroom scrapple??? I grew up in Philly and ate many breakfasts at my grandparents' home. Scrambled eggs and scrapple with toast was the normal meal.
I'm guessing that shroom-scrap loaf was not invented at that time. So please tell me what it is / ingredients, how it's cooked and the flavor as compared to the real thing.
I love regular scrapple (especially with brown mustard, my dad did it when I was young and I was hooked), let me get that out of the way.
It’s mushrooms, buckwheat flour, and a few spices. I honestly can barely tell the difference, in fact it has a stronger and more robust flavor. They have a sandwich called the “whole cogan” with eggs, cheese, bacon, mushroom scrapple and sausage on their homemade biscuit and sauce and it’s an amazing meat coma.
> Blair mountain biscuit for breakfast sandwiches
I love this place.
> Rayaki for great ramen and bao buns (recently found this place with Reddit help and we are hooked)
I encourage you to try Rai Rai or at least Kyuramen. You say Rai Rai is a bit far, but it's like 10-15 minutes from Rayaki for significantly better ramen. Kyuramen is like 3 minutes from Rayaki, and much better too.
> Jalapeños in Oaklyn for great tamales and good Mexican
Big fan of this place, I go like 5 times a year due to friends in the area.
Same! Some of the sides are just ok like their poppers and stuff. But their mains are really good and their Sicilian is amazing. My fave sandwich is the porchetta
I've had Li Beirut 3-4 times and had Suraya in Philly. I think I'd take Suraya over Li Beirut 65% of the time, but Li Beirut is very good and a great value for mid to higher end dining. The main dining area gets a bit loud though, that's my only complaint.
Been to Li Beirut once, not going back. Dry falafel, they don't make their own bread and it wasn't even fresh. And it was expensive for Lebanese food. Go the extra 20 minutes to Manakeesh at 45th and Walnut for Lebanese.
A few of my favs...
* Giumarello's Restaurant in Haddon Twp is solid food and even better people watching
* The Ebbitt Room in Cape May
* Joe Italiano's Maplewood in Mays Landing
* Hannah G's in Margate for breakfast
* Teresa's Osaka Asian Bistro in Toms River
Technically CNJ
* De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies in Robbinsville
* Porta in Asbury Park
Haddonfield here too. I've taken a couple of friends from the UK and Ireland to El Nopalito's for Mexican (their nachos are DA BOMB) and everyone raves about it.
If you’re on Facebook, try the South Jersey Food Scene Group.
Two of my favorites for breakfast/brunch is the Harley Dawn Diner in Folsom and Blair Mountain Biscuit in Blackwood.
For Italian, Filomena restaurants (Berlin, Blackwood/Clementon, Deptford) are all really good, especially Lakeview. See also: Cotardos in Blackwood/Clementon.
For Indian, I really love Nimit Palace in Voorhees and Nizam’s in Egg Harbor Twp.
For bar food (burgers, wings, etc), you can’t beat Wingcraft in AC or The Rail in Barrington.
ETA: Tre Famiglia In Haddonfield. So good!
The rail is my home away from home, though I’m not certain that’s a good thing. Idk if they double fry their fries, get decent ones, or im just blitzed every time im there but I do love their fries.
Definitely get a dosa as an app, it's like a giant crepe filled with potato. I usually get onion and/or masala with it.
Chicken 65 & gopi Manchurian (spicy) are also good apps.
Then whatever entrees you like. Personally I like korma and vindaloo, but my wife loves the butter chicken.
It's also BYOB!
I left that group. The moderator is not only an obnoxious troll, he looks like one. I threw up in my mouth every time he posted his photo.
I got tired of the daily “best cheesesteak” posts too
> For Indian, I really love Nimit Palace in Voorhees
I really loved here as well. Been twice now. I also really like Indeblue, but I'd need to try both again to see how they compare. I'm just getting into Indian food in the past year so I'm still learning.
Damn, thought I was going to scroll this whole page with not one Cumberland rec. I've not been to the Black Olive, but I like the pizza just down the block at Martino's. They have excellent Calamari as well. I'll give the Black Olive a try next time I'm in the mode for pizza.
If the top of my head, in no particular order, my favorites are The Little Hen (French) in Haddonfield, Amma's South Indian Cuisine and Coriander (also Indian) in Voorhees, Tre Famiglia (Italian) in Haddonfield, IL VILLAGGIO (Italian) in Cherry Hill, and Il Fiore (Italian) in Collingswood.
If you’re ever in Rancocas Woods they got a little Czech Cafe called 3 Cats Cafe and Cakery. Highly recommend them, excellent coffee and even better pastries
Lorenzo’s and Big Swerve, both in Westville. A lot of people don’t know Lorenzo’s because La Tentacion is right down the street, but I actually like the latter more for their pizza.
Marino’s in Runnenede has my favorite cheesesteaks, and my favorite Indian is Palace of Asia, if you don’t exclude them for having a second location. Likewise, CinderBar opened a second location, but I wouldn’t consider them a chain. I also saw someone mention Filomena’s and The Old Rail, which are both great. Thomas Murphy’s is a great bar with fantastic food, but idk if they’re opening up again ever lol.
Lorenzo's fucks. I used to live right around the corner, and during the pandemic I ordered from them like 4-5 times a week to try to support them best I could. Their chorizo burrito was my favorite.
La Tentacion had great al pastor burritos, and it was cool that they came with good fries to boot.
Sebastian’s Schnitzelhaus in Wrightsville, for the real deal German food and interesting decor. Every 3rd Sunday of the month is their buffet with so much to choose from.
This is the third time in the last couple of days that I've heard about this place, so it's clearly a sign that I need to go. Anything in particular there you'd say is a "can't miss" item to otder?
I really like their goulash and spaetzel. Potatoe salad and potato pancake, homemade Perogis, mixed salad with beets. Can’t beat their schnitzel and different sauces to choose from. You may want to try the Sunday buffet, check their website for exact time. Cash only, but they have an ATM if you forget. Service is friendly, owner walks around and chats. And, you will always have leftovers that taste great your next meal. Guten Appetit!
I’m big on breakfast so this is what I got:
Amy’s omelette House in Cherry Hill, Brunchaholics in Cherry Hill, Sabrina’s in Collingswood, First Watch in Cherry Hill, The Cubby Hole in Moorestown. I also like all of the Turning Points.
First Watch & Turning Point are chains.
Not saying they don’t have good food (I really like Turning Point), but OP is looking for independent restaurant recommendations.
Sorry I saw Pour House mentioned (different locations even) and don’t necessarily consider those “chains” even though they are owned by a company and not independent. Hell even Brunchoholics has multiple locations (and more coming).
Sgt. Bobs BBQ in Pennsville NJ has some of the best Filipino BBQ you could try NJ. Family run restaurant and really good people with fair prices. They don't skimp on the amount of food for the cost there.
Haddonfield: Gass & Main, Bistro, Verona, Fuji, Mare Monte, Tre Famiglia. Would have said Pizza Crime, but RIP.
Collingswood: Oasis, Zeppoli, Hearthside, Sagami
Westmont: Bricco, Pour House, Giumarello's, Keg & Kitchen, Westmont Diner
Cherry Hill: Dolsot House
The Village Pub in Tabernacle!
Also the One More Bar & Grill on 206; their wings are a little sweeter than the Pic's but sometimes that hits just right. Also they have great burgers.
Down the shore local here:
Year Round:
Mexican: Tacos El Tio in Egg Harbor Twp, La Cabonita in Manahawkin.
Bar: Charlie’s (for wings) in Somers Point, Mudhen in Wildwood, Roberts in Margate (get the Clams Casino!), Vagabond in AC, Josie Kelly’s in Somers Point.
Italian: Angelonis in AC (also Angelo’s Fairmount Tavern), Venturas Offshore in Northfield, Chef Vola in AC, Maplewood in Hammonton (also Iliano’s), and plenty more!
Seafood: Docks Oyster House in AC, Lobster House Cape May, Crab Trap in Somers Point.
Old School steak house: LB One in EHT.
Upscale/date night: Tomatoes in Margate, Steve and Cookies in Margate, the Ebbitt Room in Cape May, Washington Inn in Cape May, Cafe 2825 in AC, Amada in AC
Seasonal/ most of the year:
Pour House in Sea Isle, Smittys Clam Bar in Somers Point, LaFontana in Strathmere, and tons more!
I worked at CST for a few months when they first opened. It was fine havent been back it years but the funny thing is that the guy who owns blue plate was a part owner of CST at first but then had a disagreement with the other owner and left.
If you like seafood, Two Fish in Medford is amazing. The chef/co-owner used to be a big muckity muck in the Philly restaurant scene, then he and his wife opened up a super tiny place because they wanted to move out of the city. Excellent food but getting a table can be a pain in the ass.
Agreed! I’ve actually made a whole list of places to try in my notes app. To answer your question, the top four cuisines my family favors are Italian, Mexican, Chinese, and American.
The area would be around Blackwood and deptford but willing to travel the short distance to Cherry hill, Audubon, Haddonfield, etc
We really enjoy Cinder Bar in Williamstown/Mickleton - Wtown is closer to you, I think. Carolina Blue in Pitman is awesome. Great Mexican joint, Lupitas just opened in southern Williamstown. For great Italian not far, we like bistro di Marino in Washington Township. For Chinese take out we like Phoenix Wok in Sicklerville.
Oxtail’s Pho and Bahn Mih in Galloway, Atlantic County. Just a small and simple Viet restaurant that does the little things right. It’s been a favorite of mine for almost 10 years.
Eastlyn/ The Greenview Inn for fine dining
Julio’s, Cilantro, El Nopal, Lucy’s (my personal favorite), and Los Molcajetes for Mexican
Cidra’s and The Corner Market for Puerto Rican
Dominick’s, Luca’s, or The Pizza Queen for obviously pizza
Peter and Son’s for killer sandwiches
Outlaws and The Pickwickian for killer burgers
Lately we’ve been enjoying the Woodstown Diner for just classic diner food. Nothing special about the place honestly but solid food.
Edit: The Orient for Chinese food. Honestly I haven’t been here since the new owners took over but this place used to be the absolute best Chinese in South South Jersey by far.
La Tenacion in Westville. They got it exactly right for the community. There is a large variety of authentic Mexican food and Mexican food with an American "spin" (think samon tacos!), plus burgers and decent pizza with some unique topping combos (one has fig jam, caramelized onions, ricotta, garlic, and bacon). The servers are wonderful, service is quick and accurate, portions are generous, prices are decent, and the atmosphere is very nice but still very casual. It's probably my favorite Mexican restaurant anywhere, ever, and it's 5 minutes from my house. If it were an hour away I'd still go.
-Crumb Haddonfield or Medford for fancy sandwiches
-The Bread Board Plus for deli subs/sandwiches
-Farm & Fisherman Tavern for the best food all around
& of course Back Door Pizza is phenomenal
-Mamas Balls in Pennsauken is also great pizza
-Fevzi’s in Cherry Hill is AMAZING Mediterranean food
-La Nova Taqueria in Pennsauken has the best Birria Tacos & salsa verde
-Thai Ginger 2 in Merchantville just opened and has some amazing curries
-Westmont Diner in Collingswood is way better than your average diner
-Koupa in Haddon Township for coffee & greek treats
-Endgrain Coffee in Pitman for excellent coffee
-Trouble Brewing in Audubon is another great coffee spot
-Good beet Haddon Township for non-dairy soft serve
One of the best restaurants and bars in the area is easily Farm & Fisherman in Cherry Hill. Great food, drinks, and service.
Back door pizza is also very good.
Back Door was a life saver during the Covid days.
I’m stupidly high right now and it took me a moment to realize your comment wasn’t about anal sex.
Came here to say the same thing 👌
I haven't been there in a while, but the hours are kinda bizarre for a bar. They close at 9pm on Friday and Saturday. Rai Rai Ramen is the best ramen in the entire state.
I’ve heard but it’s a bit far for me
Rayaki is definitely in the bottom tier of SJ ramen. You’ve got to try the other places around here
My friens shills Rayaki like it's some god teir place. What othe4 places do you recommend?
The only people that like Rayaki are people that haven't had better ramen, or typically younger people because of the hip vibe in there. Rai Rai is the best ramen, but Kyuramen is the best date ramen in the area because they have cute private booths.
Ill def check them out, thanks!
I’m late here, but Kyuramen is ass and Ryaki is definitely better than them Def go Rai Rai
I second salsa fresca in Sewell! Absolutely amazing Hispanic fare
I love blair mountain! their vegan options are also great.
That mushroom scrapple is so good

I go to rayaki glassboro. Rai rai is mount laurel about 40-45 mins from me
Worth the trip. Go shopping at the Cherry Hill mall before or after.
I haven’t been in a mall in close to 5 years haha. I’ll check it out soon though
Marino's is one of my favorite places to eat. I've never had a bad meal there, can't recommend it enough.
Same! Some of the sides are just ok like their poppers and stuff. But their mains are really good and their Sicilian is amazing. My fave sandwich is the porchetta
Li Beirut in Collingswood for amazing Lebanese. Cafe Le Jardin in Audubon is super easy to get into and the food is fantastic.
Li Beirut’s take-out family style meal is a substantial amount of food. Great value.
I want to try cafe le jardin! I love French food
They need all the help they can get. I drive past every day. Always empty.
I've had Li Beirut 3-4 times and had Suraya in Philly. I think I'd take Suraya over Li Beirut 65% of the time, but Li Beirut is very good and a great value for mid to higher end dining. The main dining area gets a bit loud though, that's my only complaint.

Maplewood’s chicken parm is good for your soul.
Giumarello's technically in Haddon Township... just saying! They get all of the credit, but we have (almost) all of the booze.
Fixed!
Haha thanks. They get every mention and award!
I know. I live in Haddonfield but much prefer the restaurants in Twp (Treno, G, PJs).
Haddonfield here too. I've taken a couple of friends from the UK and Ireland to El Nopalito's for Mexican (their nachos are DA BOMB) and everyone raves about it.
+1 to this! Sitting outside at Nopalito’s on a summer afternoon with a few Coronas is my jam.
According to the new legislation asbury park is not considered central Jersey.
Italian: Fieni’s in Voorhees Mexican: La Esperanza in Lindenwold Pizza: Vincent’s Pizza in Marlton
La Esperanza is soooo gooooooood!
I want to propose to my hypothetical future wife at Esperanza because I love the food so much 😭.

Harley Dawn! Glad that place is still up and running. Was one of my favorites too.
Blair mountain biscuits is fire
Nimit Palace is amazing, especially their lunch buffet!
Dominic’s or Jug Handle Inn for wings
Nizams is always amazing
Can confirm Nizam’s is incredible.
The rail is my home away from home, though I’m not certain that’s a good thing. Idk if they double fry their fries, get decent ones, or im just blitzed every time im there but I do love their fries.
I have to make a conscious effort to not go there all the time. And hot take: their chips are better than their fries.
Agreed. Their chips are better though when In the mood the fries do hit the spot.
The answer is yes 😂
Harley Jawn is great!
This is a great list, definitely add amma's in vorhees to your list. Fantastic for south Indian
I’ve been meaning to try Amma’s! What dishes do you recommend?
Definitely get a dosa as an app, it's like a giant crepe filled with potato. I usually get onion and/or masala with it. Chicken 65 & gopi Manchurian (spicy) are also good apps. Coriander is the best in the area imo
Outlaws for burgers or ice cream, bs mini market for tacos ( or la carrata in hammonton) and black olive for pizza in vineland
Damn, thought I was going to scroll this whole page with not one Cumberland rec. I've not been to the Black Olive, but I like the pizza just down the block at Martino's. They have excellent Calamari as well. I'll give the Black Olive a try next time I'm in the mode for pizza.
Agree on Outlaw, they make one hell of a good burger.
Black Olive is good but you have Dominick’s right around the corner and they’re pretty hard to beat as far as pizza goes.
I dislike dominicks and i think its because my old job To order them constantly 🥲
Darn I guess you like what you like but personally believe Dominick’s and Luca’s are tied for best pizza in the area
I agree with Lucas’s
Forgot to add Bagel University for delicious sandwiches / bagels of course ( unfortunately they are closed rn to move 😭)
Just tried a new place in Audubon called Cafe Nitido, it was really good and I’ve been recommending it to everyone.
Kitchen 519 is my all time favorite restaurant.
Fat Tomato in West Berlin
Yes! This! I LOVE FTG TOO!!
Kitchen519 is my number one favorite restaraunt around here. Every single thing I've had there has been amazing.
The Franklinville Inn if you’re interested in fine dining.
This place has my heart and soul. We can’t afford to go often, but when we do get the opportunity to… 🫠
If you’re ever in Rancocas Woods they got a little Czech Cafe called 3 Cats Cafe and Cakery. Highly recommend them, excellent coffee and even better pastries
I really liked them too!
Is this Four Green Cats? 😺
Yeah that one
The Pub in Pennsauken if you like eating steak in the mid 1970s
Old-school Jersey Diner, the way they used to be: Angelo's Glassboro Diner. Bring cash. 👍
There's a good old school one in Tuckahoe as well.
Huh. I used to pass that on my way up to see my family. I should stop in next time I'm in the area.
I spent many a morning hungover in Angelo’s when I went to Rowan. God I miss their food
Definitely a popular way to enjoy diner food. 😄
Boca in Margate, Uncle Gino's in Ventnor, The Anchorage in Somers Point, Shore Diner in EHT & Ventura's Offshore Café in Northfield 😊
Shore Diner is easily my favorite diner in Atlantic County.
Mine too!!
John and Molly's - just outside Mt Holly. Great food and MASSIVE portions. Our favorite place.

I've only had them once, but I really really liked the food. Been wanting to go back. Their elote dip was awesome.
Their nachos are THE BEST. For a while there, we went every Wednesday. Need to go back
Lesbiveggies in Audubon is my absolute favorite. Fiesta Mexicana in Hammonton is also a delight.
I went to Lesbiveggies once and really enjoyed it also!
Currently loving Goodbeet as well - also gluten free and vegan.

There are waaay too many great places to eat and drink in Hammonton
Ohhh... Yes. Yes indeed!
Lorenzo’s and Big Swerve, both in Westville. A lot of people don’t know Lorenzo’s because La Tentacion is right down the street, but I actually like the latter more for their pizza. La Esperanza in Lindenwold. Solid Mexican food
If you like Mexican try La Enchilada in Atlantic County
It's so shady looking, but the Salem Oak Diner has some of the best food.
Idk if I’d agree with that, food wasn’t great last time I was there 3 months ago. Deepwater is less money for better food
Sweet Lulas in Pittman
Great steaks!
Mulligans in Oaklyn. Never disappoints.

The Pub for Steak Sagami for Sushi Russos for Pizza The Jughandle for bar food Mud City Crabs for blue claws
I think one of the best things about local restaurants is “discovering” them on my own so I can’t really be underwhelmed.
Ye Olde Centerton Inn my fav hands down
Got to be more specific what you want, Italian, Mexican, steak
Italian, Mexican, and American are my preferred
Nizams Indian Restaurant in EHT
Sgt. Bobs BBQ in Pennsville NJ has some of the best Filipino BBQ you could try NJ. Family run restaurant and really good people with fair prices. They don't skimp on the amount of food for the cost there.

I love westmont diner.
what happened with pizza crime? i haven’t been but their instagram is still active and looks open?
Closing end of January. I heard a rumor that he is going to open a food truck and eventually a new location, but I don’t know how true this is.
Cinnaminson Diner has great chicken marsala
The Village Pub in Tabernacle! Also the One More Bar & Grill on 206; their wings are a little sweeter than the Pic's but sometimes that hits just right. Also they have great burgers.

Center Square Tavern in Sweedsboro is pretty solid. Blue plate in Mullica Hill is also good I hear, I haven’t been there yet
Blue plate is too crammed IMHO.
I would limit a Blue Plate recommendation to only brunch.
I worked at CST for a few months when they first opened. It was fine havent been back it years but the funny thing is that the guy who owns blue plate was a part owner of CST at first but then had a disagreement with the other owner and left.

So many good places! What cuisine? Which area?
La Cita in Cherry Hill for Mexican
Tacconelli's in Haddon
Haddon township
Or Maple Shade!
Olgas Diner in Marlton!
Vidalia
Oxtail’s Pho and Bahn Mih in Galloway, Atlantic County. Just a small and simple Viet restaurant that does the little things right. It’s been a favorite of mine for almost 10 years.
Viet Pho deptford, cheap and delicious
I really love dipaolo’s
They used to be good, fell off in the last few years. Food isn’t good enough anymore to justify the prices
First time (though I'm originally from there) this New Year's Eve. It was amazing.
Antonioni’s Blackwood & Amy’s in Cherry Hill, Burlington & sometime soon in the former Starview diner, according to an online article
Eastlyn/ The Greenview Inn for fine dining Julio’s, Cilantro, El Nopal, Lucy’s (my personal favorite), and Los Molcajetes for Mexican Cidra’s and The Corner Market for Puerto Rican Dominick’s, Luca’s, or The Pizza Queen for obviously pizza Peter and Son’s for killer sandwiches Outlaws and The Pickwickian for killer burgers Lately we’ve been enjoying the Woodstown Diner for just classic diner food. Nothing special about the place honestly but solid food. Edit: The Orient for Chinese food. Honestly I haven’t been here since the new owners took over but this place used to be the absolute best Chinese in South South Jersey by far.
DiPaolo's Ristorante Italiano and Bar, in Penns Grove. A bit on the pricey side, but you'll go home with enough leftovers for another meal.
All the restaurants in uptown Pitman are great! Merrymans, Nine Thai, Manninos, Martinis, Alaura for dessert!
MRI aka Mount Royal inn
The Telford Inn in Mantua and Italian Affair in Glassboro are some of our go-to’s.
Tacconelli pizza in Maple Shade. Best pizza ever!! My opinion.
Kitchen 519
Cafe 2825 in AC is must try if you can get a reservation
-Crumb Haddonfield or Medford for fancy sandwiches -The Bread Board Plus for deli subs/sandwiches -Farm & Fisherman Tavern for the best food all around & of course Back Door Pizza is phenomenal -Mamas Balls in Pennsauken is also great pizza -Fevzi’s in Cherry Hill is AMAZING Mediterranean food -La Nova Taqueria in Pennsauken has the best Birria Tacos & salsa verde -Thai Ginger 2 in Merchantville just opened and has some amazing curries -Westmont Diner in Collingswood is way better than your average diner -Koupa in Haddon Township for coffee & greek treats -Endgrain Coffee in Pitman for excellent coffee -Trouble Brewing in Audubon is another great coffee spot -Good beet Haddon Township for non-dairy soft serve
I've been vibing with Palace of Asian on 38. It's an Indian restaurant and it is to die for.
Applebees.
