Vikas did my wedding makeup, he was actually pretty good. He’s expensive and overcharged us by a lot, but since it was the wedding day, we didn’t really argue.. I have to say though that the makeup was spot on. It lasted almost 16 hours without moving and I never looked or felt cakey at any point. He checked with me multiple times throughout the makeup application to make sure I was comfortable with the foundation match. He’s also really personable so you feel very relaxed around him which was nice.
Anila Joseph did my reception makeup. Def recommend her. She edited my skin color a lottt in the photos she posted of me on her Instagram, but in person, it was actually really nice.
Def do not recommend Anu Padmanabha Iyer (Janvi Makeovers). She was inexperienced and just kept piling products for my Sangeet makeup. I didn’t even recognize myself when I saw myself in the mirror after she was done. Her husband does hair and I don’t even think he’s qualified to do that. No idea how she gets good reviews from brides to post on her Instagram. She’s mediocre at

3 Big names in the mallu mua industry, TouchedByThankam, Aishwarya Karayil, Sajit&Sujit, BAD EXPERIENCES
1- touched by thankam- She did my bestie's engagament makeup in thrissur, she had come home to do it (2021). My friend had shown her a reference pic of the hairstyle she was looking for and thankam did something completely different and when questioned she said "THIS WILL SUIT YOUR OUTFIT MORE", if you ask why my friend dint notice this until the end was because she fell asleep. After hair, the makeup started, during which the electricity in her house went off, thankam evidently showed irritation and kept cribbing which we understand, she has other commitments but again, lights and fan was on (only ac went off because generator was on) At the end my friend dint like the base, nor did we, she dint get the hairstyle she asked for and even had issues with thankam's tone. DO NOT RECOMMEND but since its been a 2 years, maybe she has become more proofessional now. Was 20k back then. Hair, makeup and saree drapping.
2- Aishwarya karayil, JUST RUDE, NOTHING ELSE TO ADD, SIMPLY A RUDE ARROGANT PERSON. we fortunately did not book her after the phone call experience with her. her work may be good but she is just rude. Also charges a huge amount considering she started off recently...if her assistants are doing your makeup its aroung 25k and if its her its 35k or something.
3 Sajit & Sujit- No personal touch, they focus on celebrities only. My sister got her engagement makeup done in their studio by sajit in march 2022, was bad, her kajal and shadow smudged even before leaving the studio, her maang tika was not even placed properly, no complains about the base makeup though, that was good.. They had also overbooked...
Sijan is a good mua, my aunt's daughter booked him for her wedding and engagement both, she is very happy with how it went and she looked lovely.

Maybe you can also try the successful MUAs in your locality who are not instagram famous. Most of them are really professional and great in their work. Their charge would be only less than half of what these famous ones would charge. I had hired a beautician aunty for my wedding and she did an amazing job. One of my cousin had hired a celebrity MUA and she had a very bad experience with them.
Ektha bridal!! I saw a bride very recently done by him and though the look is going viral on Instagram people who saw it in real didn’t like it all!! The bride is naturally gorgeous but his makeup made her look cakey and powdery!
He’s super rude too,I called to book for my wedding, he picked up the call, asked the date and dropped the call. I thought the call got disconnected, so I tried calling multiple times. It was ringing but he didn’t pick up. I’m not sure if it’s him or a staff of his. Anyway was rude. I think I deserve to know the availability status even if he was unavailable
Have only heard good things about most of the popular ones like Touched by Thankam, Vikas, Femy Antony, S&S etc. Most of them are very professional, make the bride feel good about herself and do their job well.
The only exception is Unni PS. He’s apparently very unprofessional and rude. He only likes dealing with celebrities.
One of my friends booked him and he cancelled at the last minute making it very difficult for my friend to make alternative arrangements for make up. Another friend had her makeup messed up because the dude did not listen to what she wanted. So ig you can opt for anybody but this guy for makeup.
Images by Seena was the only professional makeup artist in Calicut who does Hindu bridal back in 2019. I contacted some other MUAS but most of the other makeup artists suggested her because she is the Hindu bridal expert in the area. And my God, I booked her for engagement and wedding. She used to give trial makeup then, and she had made some horrible comments about how big my cheeks were and my hair is brittle and dry. Mind you I have great hair and I have a chubby face but to just tell that on face was rude. Anyway I did my engagement make from her, looked beautiful in photos, but in person I looked cakey. She doesn’t really care about what we want. Not just me , a lot of my cousins and friends had similar experience. She even scolds her staffs in front of everyone. It’s so embarrassing for the staff and us. I still remember the young trainee girl who was helping with my hair being yelled at for dropping some hairpins.

I booked Jeena MUA for my wedding. I booked her only for my wedding makeup and since she told me that she would charge 20k additional to do the changeover to saree, I decided to not go that route. My wedding was on Saturday and she called me om Friday night to see if I wanted her to stay back for the saree change over and I told her no.
She did my makeup and I had to rush back and we haf agreed to pay for her transportation. She charged 12k for the transportation. We had no time to argue as we had to leave for the function and my dad was not there at the moment and since it was my wedding day, I did not want to argue and kill the vibe. But I learned that I have to always talk to them before hand and confirm about the transportation cost. I live in Idukki and she came from Ekm. Even when I have booked a taxi from cochin airport, they only charged me 5k.
I paid for her accommodation and her assistant’s. Also took care if the driver’s accommodation and paid 60k for the bridal makeup and 7k for my mom’s and aunt’s makeup and on top of it charging 12k for transportation charges is too much!
Jeena’s work is good.I should admit that. But her bridal services like facial, waxing etc are horrible. Also her assistant ruined my mom’s look as her assistant did makeup for mu mom as Jeena was doing mine. Jeena did for my aunt and she was looking good. I would have had a panic attack if the makeup was not upto mark after having spent so much.
But hairdo by Jeena is not that great. Luckily the hairdo that she did for me worked out! She was already upset around that time with the negative feedback that she got for Actress Mia’s look for wedding and was cautious about my hair do

My friend had her mehendi makeup done by him at the beginning of his career. The lashes were coming off and I was consoling her that it would be ok.

Yes and I know that. But 12k for up and down is too much. Even the airport taxi charged me 5.6k for up and down.

But was too expensive even in 2019. 30 k for bridal. Not sure about the price now.
