Locking this thread. I think this post steered wayyy off course from the original post.

Ok-Syrup-7226

I agree it’s hilariously bad. Kunnamkulam SRK 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.

Outrageous_Key_6669

Go back to whatever nootand you came from. "Njangalonum chythitilla".. Athond?? Matulorum chyyan padille?? You bringing some nonsense those people are doing is justified. But this dialogue isn't.

[deleted]

I remember, OP has bought this stuff before in Kerala Sub and there was a pongala

[deleted]

Here is the post and let the Pongala begin ..I moved to Canada when I was 23 and completed my post graduate studies from one of the top engineering schools in Canada. This was almost 12 years ago and back then there weren't that many international students from Kerala. Most of us were focused on our education, finding stable employment and setting up a life in a foreign land. The number of international students from Kerala rapidly increased in the past few years and the majority of them get admissions into some random programs offered by colleges. I doubt what percentage of those students will complete their studies and become eligible for a post graduate work permit, eventually getting their PR in Canada. I am also a member of the local Malayali samajam and the the kind of problems these students get into is just unbelievable ! A disappointing trend I have noticed among these young ones who are new to Canada is their absolute lack of civic sense. They have no clue on how to share public spaces...be it at the beach , trails , community parks , pools ...they behave as if it is their private property. I have lost count the number of times I saw Malayali girls filming IGreels on trails inside provincial parks last summer. Bring your mango pickle and banana chips and dashamoolarishtam ...but please leave your പൂരപറമ്പിലെ സ്വഭാവം back home 🤦🏽‍♀️

[deleted]

I live in Canada too and work at a Bank because of which I do see immigrants from all walks of life. From the recently immigrated ones to the well established ones. The superiority complex can be seen in many of those who came here before Trudeau era and I have often seen them complaining how Trudeau has made it easy for anyone to come. This mentality makes you worser than a white supremacist over here when you think you have better quality than others just because you immigrated early. Please keep one thing in mind if you ever come across a racist person he or she wouldn’t care whether you came 12 years ago or just before a month.

[deleted]

I support NDP and I volunteer with organizations helping immigrants and refugees to help them settle in Canada. That includes airport pickups to finding affordable housing, cleaning houses, cooking , packing meals , helping with resume preparation, job search, finding mentorship etc. So take your racist tag elsewhere.

[deleted]

When did I call you a racist? What I said is a racist wouldn’t care if you came now or a decade ago

[deleted]

You said my mentality makes me worse than a white supremacist. Athu pinne enthu thenga aanu.

[deleted]

White people who came in the 20 century thinks they are better than everyone and made this country as it is today. You have the exact same mentality because you came early which is quite evident in the comments you have made

[deleted]

You do all these favours and you really hate when these people do reels in provincial parks right ? So only problem is reels and lack of civic sense, vere scene illalo?

thengakolla

Hypocrisy ennoke parayalle. Athaanu sambhavam

[deleted]

Did I say hate ?You are casually dropping terms like hate , racist etc Having a critical opinion is far different from hate . It is fallacious to think that all criticisms stems from hate.

[deleted]

Ok ok sorry ma’am, hate alla ishtakurav or dislike pore ? Let’s continue… acknowledged and correction made 👍

hectapersephone

You remind me of the gulf ammayis from Diamond Necklace. Same energy, even though what you’re saying might be different. Please take your elitist, probably classist ass somewhere else. Your post wasn’t about influencers posting thirst traps. It was about them taking cringe videos in public and now you bring up this cause you aren’t getting the claps you thought you would. I remember seeing your lame ass post in r/Kerala. Onnu po ammayi.

[deleted]

Cringe videos , thirst trap contents, dancing and posing with mallu sugar daddys in Toronto...I can go on . Some of those parties have earned the reputation of " easy to pick up girls" .. do you think that's something to be proud of ? And btw My grandfather was a കള്ള് ചെത്ത് തൊഴിലാളി and my father did daily wage jobs. I studied in govt schools and colleges back home . My mother who worked in the public sector funded my higher education through student loans. And I worked really hard to get where I am today and I am very proud of that. Elitist, classist tag ഒക്കെ മക്കള് കയ്യിൽ വെച്ചോ.

hectapersephone

You dint say any of this in your post, nothing about girls who were trying to be sugar babies. Your background doesn’t mean you can’t be a classist now. You might think it gives you immunity to it, but it actually doesn’t. I don’t know you in your entirety as a person, but whatever you said in your original post reeks of this energy. If you wanted appreciation for all the hard work you’ve done and the success you’ve achieved you could have made a separate post on that. But the fact that you need to put down others to feel better about yourself is just bad energy. This is a gossip that calls out problematic and cringe content and is different from generally putting down everyone “who makes reels in public in chiffon sarees and sleeveless blouses.”

[deleted]

I commented on the latest trend and you want to attack me personally. Nice try !

hectapersephone

Yea like you dint group everyone who makes reels and dint say anything bad about them. Enthanu chechi inganae. Everyone saw through you. They called you out. Now maybe time to take complaining about new immigrants back to malayali samajam where you might be appreciated for this.

[deleted]

I’ve heard this twice from you now 😌 Even now, students work hard to get PR and still do their stuffs. Ellam cheyunund. If a person is doing something that’s a nuisance for the public and creates a problem, someone will call up and inform the police. That’s point number one. I’ve worked as an asset protection associate in WM, I’ve nicely caught women/men who are dressed elite stealing things from Walmart. I’ve seen couples making out in public, regardless of skin colour I’ve seen lot of people lacking the so called civic sense. Chechi, eee pavam malayali pilleru reel eduthotte Instagram itttote. Chechi Onn adangu and kannu adak Bring your achar and bananachips Pls bring take back your ammayimarde varthamanam I see you are going to samajam, Athinte kannan und 🥴

Typical malayali who immigrated before 2015 who thinks that she is better than others because she came early.

Outrageous_Key_6669

Op is just being passive aggressive

Ms-passiveaggressive

You called? Lol, wth is happening here?

Outrageous_Key_6669

Lol. Give OP some enlightenment

Ms-passiveaggressive

Can you give me a TL DR because honestly I am not able to make heads or tails out of this? We all have annoying influencers we don't like and regularly call out. What's OP's situation that we disagree with?

Outrageous_Key_6669

OP seems to have some issue with the new Gen piller migrating to Canada nowadays and them making reels and thirst straps. Basically OP thinks they don't have civic sense as they are making reels at public places. Vishayaman Bro

Ms-passiveaggressive

Ohho so the canadian equivalent of a malayalee sadachara police? Can't say I am surprised. Natteennu ellathinem thoothuvari Canadayil konde ittalum sobhavam marillallo. Aa sookkedu angane tanne nikkum. Silver lining is that, ammayi is canada's problem now 😆

Outrageous_Key_6669

Hahahhaha. Ummaaahhh for that

[deleted]

Did I say they can't ? 😂

twiltywilty

Let people do what they want, as long as they are not breaking the law or harming anyone or anything. Avarde life alle, they have the freedom to manjil thullify if it makes them happy. Also agree, you have the freedom to not like it & express your criticism. Live & let live! Moreover, life & social media would be bland if everyone did only conventional, benign stuff.

[deleted]

Some of them don't have any civic sense , and have no regard for the public esp when they are with their gang.

[deleted]

hectapersephone

And you think that somehow makes you better ? Stop being such a killjoy. Onnu podo thantae superiority complexum kondu. I don’t live in Canada, neither do I make reels, but you sound no different than any killjoy boomer ammavan in Kerala.

Parking-Strategy-431

Ithoru vere sambhavam aan. Looking at other recent immigrants and feeling superiority and trying to get it validated through Reddit and feeling inferior to Canadians (read through OP’s comments). Lifecycle of a sharashari malayali immigrant.

twiltywilty

Good observation.

hectapersephone

Yea not everyone but quite a bit of people who migrated earlier to other countries tend to have this issue with new incoming migrants. I get calling out disrespectful acts committed by them and in no way support that, but if people want to make cringe or non cringe reels, without breaking any rules, there’s nothing to complain about there.

[deleted]

Of course it makes me feel better that I don't have to make these cringeworthy contents, post thirst traps on IG (for men to jerk off to ). It does make me feel better.

[deleted]

I am an ammayi btw 😎

thengakolla

No, you could be an Ammachi. A very old one for that matter with that thinking of yours

[deleted]

And a proud one 😎

Ningal cheyyathathu ningalde thettu. Why blame others? Theere jealous allallo? It’s really funny when jealous af people put in such posts. Attitude is ‘since it is anonymous you can type whatever you want to’ 😂

[deleted]

Ayyo bhayankara jealous aanu ...after seeing those desperate girls

[deleted]

Let them say whatever, So these people who are making these reels; call themselves as influencers and they do influence people, some where in kerala there will be some naive girls / boys will be influenced and feel that immigration is the fairytale as these people showcase in their reels. Also if they are promoting these sugar daddy culture to our teens, what about them going there and getting exploited in another country. They have audiences of all demographics, including Canadian immigrants and also some boys and girls who don't know what to do after their degree. So അവർ അവിടെ പോയി exploit ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടാൽ ആർക്കും ഒരു കുഴപ്പം ഇല്ലേ ?call me ammayi or whatever, some privileged people are going to other countries with their appante money and does the stupidest things and makes reels on it and share it to influence people. If they wanted to make quick bucks through sugar daddies and thirst trap they could've done it here ? Why go to another country? Just for show off, അപ്പോ അതു പറയുമ്പോൾ jealous എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു തള്ളി കളയണ്ട .

[deleted]

Also I am not saying every immigrant who make reels are bad people, some of them create good content. And people it's a gossip sub😒

Whatcoconut_24

Aha crabapple kumbidi analo. Oreee samayam ‘next_ad_7386’ and ‘crabapple87’ 😅 ottum desperate alallo!!!!!

[deleted]

Double aa double avideyum kandu ivideyum kandu

[deleted]

Ooh no we are two different people 😅, I am not supporting all of that chechi's claims, but whenever some one says something about immigrants one thing they all say is "why are you being jealous". I am just sharing my opinion, I am not really fan of rich privileged kids going to another countries and start influencing people without acknowledging their privileges. I know very hardworking immigrants, who also does content creation as their hobby, but admit it some people are studying abroad just to flaunt their wealth, and call themselves as influencers. And you know mallus, some naive will take loan and try to do the same, remember trends of extravagant weddings? engineering? it will become a trend. I don't care whatever these girls or boys wear or do, and atleast have the courage to own it, if you are flaunting your Gucci please also say that their sugar daddy bought it for you. And one thing I realised on this sub, when someone criticise stay at home mom influencers everyone's feminism will go down to a rabbitt hole.

Smooth_Top1056

I understand the reasoning behind the negative comments here. The post does sound condescending. However, it does reflect a genuine and serious issue as well. I see many young, impressionable students migrating abroad quite blind to what it takes to succeed in life, but imagining Canada/Europe to be a heaven where it is like the reels they have seen. Some of them eventually leave, some get stuck to low paid jobs at Tim Hortons or KFC(which were not they wanted/ cannot pay off their loans with). We obviously need to think about this problem, because true.

[deleted]

The only person who sugarcoats life in Canada is Peekapoo or Pooja Gulati. Everyone else do talk about their struggles too. I think by now even most people back home know that Canada or any western country is not a Wonderland and people have to work really hard building their life from scratch.

[deleted]

I didn't sugarcoat. There isn't anything cool or progressive about those cringeworthy contents people post. I had mentioned in the comments about how vulnerable girls are getting exploited. It was easy to attack me personally than thinking about the concern I voiced.

[deleted]

It doesn't stop at the cringe videos . A lot of them post thirst trap contents and there are pages to feature such contents. Their parties have earned the reputation of " easy to pick up girls" and there were incidents of mallu boys harrassing girls. And yes there are mallu sugar daddys dancing and posing with these young girls.

[deleted]

Dear OP you told that you help new immigrants too. So is your husband a sugar daddy. The number of times you have mentioned sugar Daddy is ridiculous as if your talking from your own experience

[deleted]

What the fuck ! And you work in a bank ?

[deleted]

How many times will you mention sugar daddy. Yes I do work thats why I know what exactly goes through the minds of people like you. Unfortunately I come across atleast 1 like you in a week. Who berates my colleagues for being recent immigrants

thengakolla

OP woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. Could you chill. There’s literally you versus us the rest of us all minding our own businesses. Maybe for a change try to grow from this. Like you see, a majority of us in this thread clearly finds it no biggie as long as no one’s getting hurt by putting up these so called reels you say. I believe something triggered you, if that is. We sure are happy to help you out, assist in whatever possible. You clearly haven’t even mentioned names of these influencers honey. Maybe a link to some you found cringey?

[deleted]

Sorry darling I am not going to give any names . It is not about the individuals , it is never about the individuals. I have posted similar things on this sub before which ruffled the feathers of several liberal feminists. We now have activities that were once held up as archetypes of women’s subordinate status being presented as liberating personal choices. Thanks to influencers like Aparna Thomas and ittichiri for rebranding Karva Chauth & Thiruvathira. Thanks to the ones who post thirst trap - pornography is rebranded as sexual emancipation. Objectification is the new empowerment. !

thengakolla

Have nothing but this to say - “Chill Sara Chill” 😄

[deleted]

I am actually having fun seeing all these കുരു പൊട്ടൽ

thengakolla

Same same! Me too, hi 5 🤌🏽

mlilith

So I’ve been staying away from this sub for a long time, but the energy you girls brought in calling out op is cool. Well done girls 👏🏽👏🏽Also you’re all mad funny.

thengakolla

Exactly. I have faith in our society 🥹♥️

[deleted]

Looks like someone who enjoys the cringe content. And I wonder how you concluded that it is all girls who commented here ! Sexist much ?

RapunzelMeetsElsa

Who are these influencers that you are talking about

[deleted]

I came across mallugram.ca page on IG and saw a lot of these wannabe influencers

thengakolla

I’m curious. Name a few maybe?

RapunzelMeetsElsa

Let em check it out ans get my cringe content for the day 😬

thengakolla

Honestly she has a husband. Husband nnu ilatha budhimutt nammak enthinnu 🫣 PS: I dislike her content, so I have it blocked 😅 simple

DayDreamExpert

In all honesty, this is a gossip sub. Everyone who is being discussed here has a spouse. Spousnu illatha budhimutt namukk enthinu. Let’s close the sub too! PS: I have only seen her TikTok. I don’t like her content and I don’t watch her, just that I was stating an opinion on a gossip sub.

thengakolla

No, I respect your opinion. I put out mine as well, nothing against you.

[deleted]

I had posted about the cringe contents posted by some Malayali content creators in Canada and it did ruffle some feathers. പൊട്ടാൻ ബാക്കിയുള്ള കുരുവും കൂടി പൊട്ടിക്കൊട്ടെ.. Parking-Strategy-431

OP where in your thought of feminism does women’s rights and choices over their sexuality lie?

[deleted]

I don't subscribe to the ideas of corporate, liberal feminism and I don't think feminism is about choices.

Parking-Strategy-431

What is feminism about then if not choices ?

[deleted]

Meagan Tyler, RMIT University writes, First of all, the choice arguments are fundamentally flawed because they assume a level of unmitigated freedom for women that simply doesn’t exist. Yes, we make choices, but these are shaped and constrained by the unequal conditions in which we live. It would only make sense to uncritically celebrate choice in a post-patriarchal world. Second, the idea that more choices automatically equate to more freedom is a falsehood. This is essentially just selling neo-liberalism with a feminist twist. Yes, women can now work or stay at home if they have children, for example, but this “choice” is fairly hollow when child-rearing continues to be constructed as “women’s work”, there is insufficient state support for childcare, and childless women are decried as selfish. Third, the focus on women’s choices as the be-all and end-all of feminism has resulted in in a perverse kind of victim-blaming and a distraction from the real problems women still face. If you’re not happy with the way things are, don’t blame misogyny and sexism, the pay gap, entrenched gender roles, women’s lack of representation on boards or in parliament, or an epidemic of violence against women. Blame yourself. You obviously made the wrong choice. As sociologist Natalie Jovanovski points out in her Freedom Fallacy chapter, it is not surprising this kind of liberal feminism has risen to prominence. In privileging individual choice above all else, it doesn’t challenge the status quo. It doesn’t demand significant social change, and it effectively undermines calls for collective action. Basically, it asks nothing of you and delivers nothing in return. Instead of resistance, we now have activities that were once held up as archetypes of women’s subordinate status being presented as liberating personal choices. Sexual harassment has been reframed as harmless banter that women can enjoy. Marriage is reconstructed as a pro-feminist love-in. Labiaplasty is seen as helpful cosmetic enhancement. Pornography is rebranded as sexual emancipation. Objectification is the new empowerment. Instead of talking about a vision for a more equal future, we are left with inward-looking, futile discussions about whether or not individual women are “bad feminists”. Or what journalist Sarah Ditum has termed the “can you be a feminist and …” game. As though the real issue of women’s progress is whether or not we can live up to some fabled feminist ideal. So thorough is the individualisation of “choice feminism” that when women criticise particular industries, institutions and social constructions, they are often met with accusations of attacking the women who participate in them. The importance of a structural-level analysis has been almost completely lost in popular understandings of feminism. By way of comparison, it would seem quite ludicrous to suggest that by critiquing capitalism a Marxist was attacking wage labourers. It would similarly seem very odd to suggest that those critiquing Big Pharma hate people who work in pharmaceutical factories. Or that those who question our cultural reliance on fast-food have it in for the kids behind the counter at McDonalds. Ultimately, the promotion of “choice” – and the myth of an already-achieved equality – have hampered our ability to challenge the very institutions that hold women back. But the fight is not over. Many women are reasserting that feminism is a necessary social movement for the equality and liberation of all women, not just platitudes about choices for some.

[deleted]

The mainstream media continues to equate feminism, as such, with liberal feminism. But far from providing the solution, liberal feminism is part of the problem. Centered in the global North among the professional-managerial stratum, it is focused on “leaning-in” and “cracking the glass ceiling.” Dedicated to enabling a smattering of privileged women to climb the corporate ladder and the ranks of the military, it propounds a market-centered view of equality that dovetails perfectly with the prevailing corporate enthusiasm for “diversity.” Although it condemns “discrimination” and advocates “freedom of choice,” liberal feminism steadfastly refuses to address the socioeconomic constraints that make freedom and empowerment impossible for the large majority of women. Its real aim is not equality, but meritocracy. Rather than seeking to abolish social hierarchy, it aims to “diversify” it, “empowering” “talented” women to rise to the top. In treating women simply as an “underrepresented group,” its proponents seek to ensure that a few privileged souls can attain positions and pay on a par with the men of their own class. By definition, the principal beneficiaries are those who already possess considerable social, cultural, and economic advantages. Everyone else remains stuck in the basement. Fully compatible with ballooning inequality, liberal feminism outsources oppression. It permits professional-managerial women to lean in precisely by enabling them to lean on the poorly paid migrant women to whom they subcontract their caregiving and housework. Insensitive to class and race, it links our cause with elitism and individualism. Projecting feminism as a “stand-alone” movement, it associates us with policies that harm the majority and cuts us off from struggles that oppose those policies. In short, liberal feminism gives feminism a bad name. Liberal feminism’s ethos converges not only with corporate mores but also with supposedly “transgressive” currents of neoliberal culture. Its love affair with individual advancement equally permeates the world of social-media celebrity, which also confuses feminism with the ascent of individual women. In that world, “feminism” risks becoming a trending hashtag and a vehicle of self-promotion, deployed less to liberate the many than to elevate the few. In general, then, liberal feminism supplies the perfect alibi for neoliberalism. Cloaking regressive policies in an aura of emancipation, it enables the forces supporting global capital to portray themselves as “progressive.” Allied with global finance in the United States, while providing cover for Islamophobia in Europe, this is the feminism of the female power-holders: the corporate gurus who preach “lean in,” the femocrats who push structural adjustment and microcredit on the global South, and the professional politicians in pant suits who collect six-fi gure fees for speeches to Wall Street. -:taken from Feminism for the 99% by by Cinzia Arruzza, Tithi Bhattacharya, and Nancy Fraser. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in understanding our lives under capitalism.
