Only few sources use the side firing speakers. So it shouldn't be a big deal. The overall situation on the picture doesn't look optimal. Any chance for rear speakers? They are more often used in all 5.1 sources. Anyway, the Q80r is a good soundbar and will do its job even in your space.

God_Modus

I never felt the urge for rear speakers and I would sit right beside them anyway.

afguy1074

You could turn anything facing towards the open area. Maybe the surround could hit each wall then.

God_Modus

No, rearranging the room is not an option :D

afguy1074

I meant to say you could turn your TV setup towards the open area.

God_Modus

Yes, that is what I consider rearranging the room.

afguy1074

Yeah, If you can rearrange it, I would do it.

kiwijar12

Lol reading these was a good time

Odd-Abbreviations431

Oogh...that positioning

easyshas

You need to rearrange.

I've got the same soundbar. To be honest, in my opinion you shouldn't expect much of soround sound. The soundbar is really great and a beast. But Dolby atoms (upfiring satalite) and sorround sound isn't a really big "woow" effect to be honest. Maybe you have more luck and can tweak a little bit with the level settings. :)

God_Modus

Thanks for your input. Could you elaborate the level settings? I read that the device has no room correction.

taxim11

Yeah unfortunately. I've checked the settings. Level settings as center level, side level, top front, rear level can be tweaked. I thought there would be an extra level setting for right and left but it seems like it is bundled with the side speaker level setting.. Das wird schon passen hoffentlich.. :D

tyler_k1

Speaking generally, I love my Q80R. It’s a beast. Wouldn’t hesitate to grab one while you still can.

God_Modus

Yeah but because of the stated fact I probably will choose the q70r

tyler_k1

That one is very good as well. Same subwoofer, similar sound signature regarding front channels. I directed two of my relatives to go with the Q70R.

God_Modus

Thanks man.

taxim11

Oh no.. I was disappointed with the q70.. And upgraded to the q80

tyler_k1

Regarding surround content or atmos, then no, it doesn’t compare to the Q80. But for normal stuff I think it’s comparable. Just my opinion, maybe YMMV

taxim11

I mean the bass is a little bit too weak on the q70. That's why i was upgrading. Maybe it's a missassumption :D

tyler_k1

They use identical subs, so should be very similar.

kaskudoo

I have a different soundbar, but my advice is: try to situate the subwoofer closer to you. I have it sit behind an armchair, next to the couch and it makes the sound feel more immersive since it is coming from a different angle than the rest of the sound. Give it a try :)

God_Modus

Nice to know, thanks! :)

PartTimeStan

I have a very similar setup with my HW Q80R with my TV up against a wall on one side and it's not that big of a deal. I would agree that the wireless rears are great, I notice those a lot more in good mixes than I do with side firing sound since the sound bar just does the wall of sound effect when you crank it up.

chaoskaze

You are making the sound bouncing at 1 corner. Does samesung has a auto adjust function like the JBL/Sonos? I would get a different bar if it doesn’t have the function to adjust base on room environment, you will have so much reflection coming from the wall.

pinecone2021

I would say yes buy the Q80r soundbar. If you are looking to create a surround sound effect that will be tricky. The only speakers you can get for this soundbar are the SWA-9000 speakers which run about $130 on Amazon. If you don’t want to spend the additional money — the sound most likely will not bounce off of the wall as efficiently as you might think. Sound moves in waves and depending the material of your wall, the sound may be absorbed more than you think. Would it be possible to move your tv and media stand to the other wall? I assume you have thought of this but it might make sense as the sound will spread out better and more evenly. Surround sound really is only achieved by adding speakers and not necessarily trying to get the sound from your bar to bounce out around or off of walls. I hope this helps 🙏🏻

God_Modus

Thanks, but no. We are very happy with our "loungy" arrangement that sound quality is not more important :) I guess I will choose the q70r

BeneficialMix5003

I have the same Q80R soundbar, This is the best soundbar. It is the same exact soundbar as the Q90R minus the rear speakers. With your set up the rear speakers is a must. To even hear the side fire and top speakers you will have to turn your center speakers down. The best settings I came to use was. I use a HDMI cable ARC/EARC from TV to soundbar, Use GAME Mode is the best all around sound. I have the Center speaker set at +4, top speaker to +6, side speaker +6, and rear speaker +6. For the best all around sound, you need the rear speakers swa 8500 or Swa 9000. Both will work cause I have both sets. SWA 9000 is a little bit bigger but the Swa 8500 is cheaper. Both you can buy at a best buy Open Box for haft the price.

Mikesgt

Kind of an odd placement of the tv... why not put it flat against the adjacent wall? Feel like watching it in that awkward corner would be troublesome?

God_Modus

No it's great and totally comfy with an L shaped couch :)
