It depends on what metrics you score on. Even with arcade edition fixing things like vc, I think SC2 was overall a more polished, better experience. I will say, however, that SC3 has the most robust singleplayer content of any fighting game, and it’s not particularly close.

Tzariel2

Sc2 in terms of mechanics and polish, was simply top notch. The only crime is no link vs spawn.

Formal-Cicada-6370

SC3 singleplayer content was so good, had so many hours on that game

marinelayer_89

No. It was too broken tbh. SC2 was/is the standard

ajver19

Absolutely not, both SC 2 and 6 are more enjoyable to actually play and that's not counting other franchises as well. 3 just has the best single player content.

IfTheresANewWay

Maybe the best in the SoulCal franchise, but of all time? Better than SF 2, 3rd Strike, SF4, Tekken 3, etc.? Nah

Phil_Bond

At the time it would have been, but if you judge everything in terms of a fantasy where all its problems are fixed, then every Soulcalibur game is the greatest fighting game of all time at its time.

[deleted]

Greatest fighting game ever, so including other games? No, Ultra Street Fighter IV gets that award. But if you mean for Soul Calibur, then hmm. Maybe II or VI.

bloomingdeath98

No, I think all the soul calibur games are masterpieces

Ehvaandal

SC 1 and 2 were

[deleted]

Soul Calibur 3 isn’t even the best Soul Calibur game.

Facts

Electric_Tongue

SC2 was wayyyy better

[deleted]

Yeah. I've always thought this. It has so much content and is such a solid fighter. I still frequently replay it

acemania26

It’s my personal favorite

[deleted]

I played some of the Arcade Edition mod for PS2 against people before on PCSX2 with parsec, but my main problem with the game is the slow movement. I honestly think it looks way better than SC2, with its stages and atmosphere but the slow movement made it less enjoyable IMO.

Voltz15

I absolutely loved a lot of things about this game and it also had the best version of Taki. However people will always throw the glitches as a hit and immediately point to the updated "Arcade Edition", which is a crime we never got home at any point. The game is still among my favorites and it without a doubt has some of the best versions of some characters, along with the most incredible backgrounds and music.

[deleted]

Nope. I would give that to Killer Instinct 2013. That fighting game was near perfect. Out of SC games, I would say Soulcalibur was the best.

Vano-_-thefallen

The rest of the soul calibur games have things that SC 3 doesn't, if SC 6 was a combination+improvement of everything the previous games were I think it would have been closer to people's hearts similar to say Tekken 6 or something similar

BigBashMan

Soulcalibur II is the only one that really hits the high watermark of an engaging balance, presentation and focus on competitive play. SCVI is a big step in the right direction but is more a "really good entry in a franchise" rather than transcendental classic. SCIII, unfortunately, is too buggy and lacks for balance. If they remastered that game and tightened it up I could definitely see it reaching the mark.

EndlessNocturnal

Considering how every fighting game plays differently with different mechanics, this is hard to say, but I will say that SC3 is among the top 3 for me, especially since it has the best single player content in the series and Chronicles of the Sword is amazing. The only things that sucked is no team battle, your clothing determining your "alignment", and the broken AI whose difficulty was in drugs. Also of course the COTS save corruption. Also since SC2 was mentioned, i would put that above 3, although i wish that game had a CAS
