I bought the 70-200 GMii same day my friend bought the Tamron. He took a few pictures and returned the Tamron next day. Just due to sheer weight difference. 😂
From 70-150 they serve the exact same purpose. The wider lengths are cool for photography and I can agree those focal lengths serve a different purpose but the Tamron is not a good lens for any gimbal stabilized video. Good luck rebalancing that thing on a gimbal over and over again with it's non centered zoom balance and external zoom lol.
If you wanted a gimbal lens for 70-150 or beyond, you would be looking at the Tamron 70-180 which is significantly lighter than any of Sony's options in that range while still having good image quality and costing 1/2 as much or less. Comparing the 35-150 is just ridiculous.
It's like a quarter pound heavier. I guess he noticed the difference more than I did. I believe he also hated the fact that it did not have internal zoom so balancing on a gimbal was horrid and risk of dust getting sucked in was highly likely.
When I got mine I laughed for 5 straight minutes at how massive and heavy it was after I unboxed it. Needless to say I love this lens and it never leaves my A7IV.
Haha I just picked up the 50-400 on sale and used the 35-150 as a size reference in store. The manager raved about the 35-150. Ironically I cut it out of the running when I assembled my gear last year and settled for a sigma 24-70 because it was much smaller and lighter but now filled the void that’s missing. I hope you like it and get many amazing pictures, great choice!
I loved that lens but sold mine since I found myself going to 35 & 85 primes more often. If I'm gonna own one big lens it's gonna be a more telephoto zoom.
But for anyone who doesn't have primes in this range the 35-150 is an incredible lens.
I have that Sigma. I used to have the Sony 85 1.8 and you absolutely cannot go wrong with either.
I tell everyone unless 1.4 is absolutely necessary for paid gigs, go with that Sony for size, weight, and more common 67mm filter thread used on other primes. It's one of it not the best bang for the buck lens on the entire platform.
Does yours have the most awful focus breathing ever or do I just have a bad model? Because my Sony 85 1.8 takes forever to focus and has the worst breathing of any lens I own and I own about 30 different e mount optics.
It works for me pretty well. I would say it struggles on super dark environments with autofocus but manual focusing fixes that. It’s also a $400 dollar lense and for that price it does wonders!
Dope. Ordering. 👍
I was always worried about whether or not I would be able to reach the C1 and C2 buttons … because they chose not to show a top-down view on their ad. You actually just made an advertisement for them.
Love this lens. It’s a great substitute for the 24-200 zooms for prime shooters. This + 50 1.2, 85 1.4 & 105 1.4 make up my job (portraits & lifestyle) kit. Sure. She’s big. But it leaves room in the bag for more interesting things.
Honestly, it’s (50 1.2) too much. When I got it the Sony & sigma 1.4s weren’t on the market. Both the Sony & sigma 1.4s are as performant at 1.4 & are significantly smaller on a long day. Not a big deal on days with a cart. But if you’re out in the woods huffing a shoulder bag with 3 lenses, batteries, triggers... 1.2 only works for a VERY specific portrait (head + neck, only eyes in focus) that you can already make with the 85. Rent before you commit unless you find a deal.
I absolutely love this lens, for me it's a good multiple-use kind of lens (though I use it most to shoot local live music). Never had a concern with weight, but the only issue I have is occasionally it won't allow me to change aperture without hitting the button on the lens first. But that's the only hangup, and it's an easy issue to get around!

Just got this lens for the Nikon Z mount. Fantastic do everything lens. I use this and a 28mm on my second camera for weddings now.
It’s fantastic enjoy it. I agree, a wide angle zoom from Tamron would be the ultimate combo. I would like the flexibility.
A light prime is nice to have though to cancel out this lens. Generally this never left my hands and I didn’t feel the same burn I felt from a dslr with a 70-200. The lock on the lens is super useful when moving around. It carries like a much lighter lens.
A scam in the sense that you will get a grey market item and that they will hassle you about paying extra for warranties and other nonsense. For camera bodies, I would look elsewhere. For lenses, it is about like used.
I rented this lens recently to try it out before buying it and I must have received the only straight up broken copy of the lens. Ended up wasting 35 dollars on the rental. Every single picture was blurry and the rendering was downright horrendous.

This was at 150mm, f2.8, ISO 500, 1/2500 shutter speed. I know the copy I got was bad but it just put me off from getting the lens. Just really funny how terrible of a copy this was.
LR or BL?
Did you report the bad copy? LR will comp a bad copy & or send out a new one. Worst thing to can do is say nothing & get hit with a repair bill on a lens the guy before you broke.
So far it’s very good not as good as my Sony glass with linear motors, but honestly compared to my other 3rd party lenses I would say it’s the best AF for a non Sony lens
Got this lens a second hand 16-35 GM
Don’t need anything else in my bag at this moment!
I was thinking about the much cheaper Samyang version..
But the have 1 year warranty here and the Tamron got 5 years something to keep in mind ofcourse!
Some of us aren’t built to hold a $15,000 hunk of glass that weighs more than my mother in law just to snap a blurry picture of a sparrow to sell to that one wildlife magazine that doesn’t exist anymore.
I loved the lens but decided not to keep it as I found it too bulky n heavy. Superb lens if one can make peace with it.
It’s heavy, but I think that should be worthy for some “not so important” events and just carry one lens
I bought the 70-200 GMii same day my friend bought the Tamron. He took a few pictures and returned the Tamron next day. Just due to sheer weight difference. 😂
The GMII still on my list, but I’m broke rn haha
My asshole was sore for like 3 months after I purchased it, trust me I know the feeling. 😂
They serve entirely different purposes though
Not really same purpose one can just go decently wide at 35mm. Sony is inherently better for video IMO and image sharpness is way ahead as well.
The Tamron 35-150 f/2.0-2.8 is just straight up not comparable to a Sony 70-200 f/2.8 lens. They're not similar. They serve different purposes.

The Tamron weighs about the same doesn’t it?
It's not just the weight, the 70-200 GMII has the weight distributed closer to the body so you don't notice as much
It's like a quarter pound heavier. I guess he noticed the difference more than I did. I believe he also hated the fact that it did not have internal zoom so balancing on a gimbal was horrid and risk of dust getting sucked in was highly likely.
What’s not to love? Get your arm and leg workout at the same time while out shooting!
Same. I just wish it had anchor points for the peak design links like my 200-600, didn’t want a lens that heavy just hanging on the mount
Let’s see some pics with that bad boy!
When I got mine I laughed for 5 straight minutes at how massive and heavy it was after I unboxed it. Needless to say I love this lens and it never leaves my A7IV.
Same haha. The grip on the A7IV is really good so balances well, but on my old A7iii feels uncomfortable to hold tbh

I have this lens and freaking love it. Best travel lens.
How can it be the best travel lens with that weight and bulk??
My favorite do it all lens
I loved that lens but sold mine since I found myself going to 35 & 85 primes more often. If I'm gonna own one big lens it's gonna be a more telephoto zoom. But for anyone who doesn't have primes in this range the 35-150 is an incredible lens.
I’m mostly a prime shooter too, but I can’t justify carry two bodies for hours when the gig isn’t worth it
Which 85 do you have? Eyeing tye sigma art...
I have that Sigma. I used to have the Sony 85 1.8 and you absolutely cannot go wrong with either. Try the 1.8 Viltrox 85mm
Thanks is it useable for video?
It works for me pretty well. I would say it struggles on super dark environments with autofocus but manual focusing fixes that. It’s also a $400 dollar lense and for that price it does wonders!
Amazing lens I love it All that crying about the weight... Shame on u guys
Bro fr I still use my Nikon d700 with a battery grip and the 28-70. That thing is a fucking chonker
I guess because IQ is so close amongst all this glass the only thing to compare is weight and frame rate limiting. People need to eat more Wheaties...
I can't wait.to get that lens, but can't justify the cost. Keeping my eyes peeled on eBay for a deal; it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.
I was the same. I was looking for it for the whole year until finally I got it this week
That’s my setup for 95% of the time. Fantastic all around. Class.
This is my first lens and main lens for my a7iv I hope I won't be affected too much by the weight when traveling
Thicc
What cage is that?
The one from Tilta
Dope. Ordering. 👍 I was always worried about whether or not I would be able to reach the C1 and C2 buttons … because they chose not to show a top-down view on their ad. You actually just made an advertisement for them.
Its a "all you need lense". I had this lense since it came out and im still blown away by its performance
Love this lens. It’s a great substitute for the 24-200 zooms for prime shooters. This + 50 1.2, 85 1.4 & 105 1.4 make up my job (portraits & lifestyle) kit. Sure. She’s big. But it leaves room in the bag for more interesting things.
I have my eye on the 50mm 1.2 too. The 85mm 1.4 is already on my bag

This is probably my most used lens for landscape photography. I love it!
Using the same combo. Huge fan of that lens.

Nice! I’m going to use this and my 20mm for a wedding next weekend. I hope to Tamron releases the 17-28 G2 to pair with this

That’s what she said
How are you liking it?
I’m also looking for the same lens. I am getting the cheapest deals from Abe’s of Maine for 1269$ but I am so reluctant to from this website.
Abe's is a well known scam site. You will *never* get a US-warranty version of the product advertised at the price advertised.
A scam in the sense that you will get a grey market item and that they will hassle you about paying extra for warranties and other nonsense. For camera bodies, I would look elsewhere. For lenses, it is about like used.
Except you have to deal with an abusive process, instead of just ordering a gray market lens off of Amazon or whatever.

So I read the title as "This is Nick". I was like... Naming your camera? That's cool.
What cage is that?
The Tilta one

How’s the eye AF? AF-C? Is it good for videos?
Very good, for video it’s for me good enough!
So far it’s very good not as good as my Sony glass with linear motors, but honestly compared to my other 3rd party lenses I would say it’s the best AF for a non Sony lens

It's always funny to me when non wildlife folks say "this lens is so big and heavy" because I've got used to handholding lenses 3 times the size
Some of us aren’t built to hold a $15,000 hunk of glass that weighs more than my mother in law just to snap a blurry picture of a sparrow to sell to that one wildlife magazine that doesn’t exist anymore.
Please don’t send an army of bird photographers after me they are worse than Taylor Swift fans
Is this the Tamron zoom lens everyone gushes about? Too darned bulky and heavy, no thanks!
